    This article presents the research problems addressed in military anthropology. The central research hypothesis is a theoretical-cognitive problem concerning the object of cognition of military anthropology. In this sense, the two main understandings of military anthropology, American and Russian, are shown. Military anthropology develops an interest in culture as an area of struggle, competition, and combat. The article consists of three parts. The first part explains the theoretical issues and the historical development of military anthropology. The second part presents the Russian tradition in the development of that discipline. The third part presents the Polish tradition in which military anthropology is an auxiliary science of security sciences.

    In the article I intend to describe the way in which “scientific” categories of race and class are invented and transferred into public culture and subsequently instrumented in creating and maintaining imaginaries and practices of colonial and postcolonial power relations. I interpret colonialism and postcolonialism in a very broad context, as a continuum encompassing creation and recreation of the contemporary rules and phenomena that are related to the functioning of nation-state power, which in turn is shaped, as a set of ideas, by discourses of public culture. My arguments derive from anthropological research on social mobility and are illustrated with examples from Jamaica and the USA.

    Education policy and history education as tools for shaping an open society in Poland: A critical anthropological analysisThe aim of this article is to examine the education policy in modern Poland from the anthropological point of view. We will begin with the assumption that education policy is the outcome of social, cultural, economic and political circumstances that influence both the vision of education at a given time, as well as its specific goals. Then we will present modern educational discourses from the perspective of socio-cultural anthropology as a cultural criticism and an essential part of new interventional humanities. The main purpose of this article is to address whether modern education policy, and above all history education in Poland, can be used as a tool to shape an open society as understood by Karl Popper. We will also demonstrate how official education discourse in Poland highlights patriotic and even nationalist issues, while silencing socio-cultural values and practices that constitute the foundation of democracy and open society. Współczesna polityka edukacyjna i nauczanie historii w Polsce jako narzędzia kształtowania społeczeństwa otwartego. Krytyczna analiza antropologicznaCelem artykułu jest pokazanie współczesnej polityki edukacyjnej funkcjonującej w Polsce w perspektywie antropologii społeczno-kulturowej. Punktem wyjścia jest założenie, iż polityka edukacyjna jest wynikiem splotu czynników społecznych, kulturowych, ekonomicznych oraz politycznych, które wpływają zarówno na obowiązującą w określonym czasie wizję edukacji jako takiej, jak i na jej cele szczegółowe. Tekst pokazuje współczesne dyskursy edukacyjne w perspektywie antropologii społeczno-kulturowej widzianej jako krytyka kulturowa i istotna część nowej humanistyki o charakterze interwencyjnym. W tym kontekście głównym wątkiem spajającym niniejszy artykuł jest pytanie o to, czy współczesna polityka edukacyjna a przede wszystkim edukacja historyczna w Polsce stanowią narzędzia kształtowania społeczeństwa otwartego w rozumieniu Karla Poppera. Istotnym aspektem tekstu jest pokazanie rozwijanego w Polsce oficjalnego dyskursu edukacyjnego, który eksponuje wątki patriotyczne, a nawet nacjonalistyczne, wyciszając wartości i praktyki społeczno-kulturowe, będące fundamentem demokracji i społeczeństwa otwartego.

    The aim of the article is to present how autoethnography, understood as a technique of obtaining data in the process of ethnographic research, contributes to the development of theoretical and methodological reflection in anthropology. The author argues that this practice provides rich material that makes it possible to reflect on the relationship between the situation of the researcher and the type of knowledge created. Autoethnography also makes it possible to grasp events, and thus those moments thanks to which scraps of ideas, thoughts, or theoretical concepts begin to combine with each other to create a compact and organized narrative, and ethnographic research acquires cohesiveness. The author simultaneously emphasizes the important role of emotion. She indicates that the existence of particularly intense experiences on the part of both the researcher and the persons studied should be seen not only in the psychological perspective but as a reaction to the breaking or undermining of the prevailing principle—a response to non-standard behavior, which does not fit into the established order. The reflections presented in the article are illustrated with examples from field work which was conducted in a production facility located in one of the Special Economic Zones in the voivodeship of Lower Silesia.

    In Brazil, and more generally, in Latin America, the struggle of the indigenous movements for the demarcation of their ancestral land and the development of an intercultural education contributed to the constitutional changes of the 1980s, which led these states to regard themselves as a multicultural nation and to recognize specific collective rights to native people and tribes living on their territory. This dynamic deals with the scope of a democratic transition and a decentralization process which characterizes a new form of governance of almost all Latin America countries where the indigenous territories and the resources at their disposal can be preserved. By giving the possibility to formulate another vision of the school education based on a dialectic between indigenous knowledge and school knowledge in a sustainable developmental perspective of the indigenous territories, new experiments started to be expanded from the 1990s. This article advances the discussion between globalized and localized educational practices. It enlightens the debate between the homogenization of school systems and other alternatives such as the use of traditional knowledge. It focuses on socio-cultural knowledge and its intersection between formal and informal education. The first section of this paper presents the theoretical framework of my research and its methodology. The second section discusses, in a historical background, how the Brazilian indigenous public policies were implemented. In the third section, I use my fieldwork data to examine and analyze the advent and the development of intercultural bilingual education (IBE) in two regions of Amazonas state (Alto Solimões and Alto Rio Negro) among the Ticuna, Baniwa, and Tukano people during the 1990s and 2000s.

    Na gruncie nauk społeczno-ekonomicznych pojęcie kultura jest jednym z terminów o największym zakresie znaczeniowym. Pojęcie to jest wieloznaczne i niejasne ze względu na fakt stosowania go na gruncie wielu nauk i orientacji badawczych. Ponad-to, w wyniku rozwoju nauki, zakres znaczeniowy tego terminu był wielokrotnie zmieniany i częstokroć ulegał on rozszerzeniu o nowe zjawiska. Artykuł ma na celu syntetyczne uporządkowanie naukowego rozumienia pojęcia kultura oraz wskazanie najważniejszych cech zjawisk wchodzących w jego zakres. Podjęta w nim została również próba wskazania wspólnej dla nauk społeczno-ekonomicznych płaszczyzny rozumienia tego terminu.
    In the field of socio-economic sciences one of the terms with the wildest scope of senses is the notion of culture. This term seems to be ambiguous and unclear because of multiple uses in many sciences and scientific approaches. Moreover, the semantic range of culture has been changed over the years while new aspects of this phenomenon have been discovered. Synthetic arrangement of scientific meanings of culture and presentation of the most significant features of this notion are the main aims of this article, which also included the trial to point out the common field of culture used in the socio-economic sciences.

    Abstract: In the second part of the article on the rhetorical and socio-rhetorical reading of the New Testament texts, the author focuses on the socio-rhetorical approach. It is presented as a remedy to the fragmentary character of the sociological and anthropological studies on the Bible. The stress on the close reading of the text inherent in the socio-rhetoric gives both sociology and anthropology the anchorage they need not to stray from the main object of their inquiry. The author with broad strokes depicts the development and main concepts of the socio-rhetorical methodology. Then, he explains the six stages implied in the method: the analysis of inner texture, intertexture, social and cultural texture, ideological texture, sacred texture and the so called rhetorolects. The article finishes with the concise conclusions on the advantages of using the socio-rhetoric in comparison to the deficient and outdated historical-critical methodology.
