Opis:
In the recent years, a considerable growth was about the integration of renewable sources in the Radial Distribution Systems (RDS), as Photovoltaic Distributed Generators (PVDG) due to their importance in achieving plenty desired technical and economic benefits. Implementation of the Distribution Static Var Compensator (DSVC) in addition to the PVDG would be one of the best choices that may provide the maximum of those benefits. Hence, it is crucial to determine the optimal allocation of the devices (PVDG and DSVC) into RDS to get satisfactory results and solutions. This paper is devoted to solving the allocation problem (location and sizing) of hybrid PVDG and DSVC units into the standards test systems IEEE 33-bus and 69-bus RDSs. Solving the formulated problem of the optimal integration of hybrid PVDG and DSVC units are based on minimizing the proposed Multi-Objective Functions (MOF) which is represented as the sum of the technical-economic parameters of Total Active Power Loss (TAPL), Total Reactive Power Loss (TRPL), Total Voltage Deviation (TVD), Total Operation Time (TOT) of the overcurrent relays (OCRs) installed in the RDS, the Investment Cost of PVDGs (ICPVDG) and the Investment Cost of DSVC (ICDSVC)), by applying various recent metaheuristic optimization algorithms. The simulation results reveal the superiority and the effectiveness of the Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA) in providing the minimum of MOF, including minimization of the powers losses until 16.209 kW and 12.110 kVar for the first RDS, 4.756 kW and 7.003 kVar for the second RDS, enhancing the voltage profiles and the overcurrent protection system. Based on the paper’s results it is recommended to optimally integrate both PVDG and DSVC units into practical distribution networks.

Opis:
The principle of work of many metallurgical shaft furnaces is based on the flow of reaction gas through the descending packed bed composed of metallurgical materials. Hot gases flow up the shaft furnace through the column of materials, give their heat to the descending charge materials. At the same time due to their reducing nature they interact chemically, causing the reduction of oxides inside the charge. In real conditions, during the course of the process, the powder is generated, the source of which is the batch materials or it is introduced into the as part of the process procedure. The powder in the form of thin slurry is carried by the stream of flowing gas. Such multiphase flow might considerably affect the permeability of the charge due to the local holdup of powder. The holdup of solid phase in packed beds of metallurgical shaft furnaces leads to radial changes in bed porosity. Radial changes in bed porosity uneven gas flow along the radius of the reactor and negatively affect the course and efficiency of the process. The article describes the model studies on radial distribution of carbon powder holdup in the packed bed composed of metallurgical materials. The powder was divided into fractions – "static" and "dynamic". Large diversity of carbon powder distribution was observed in the function of the radius of reactor in relation to the bed type, apparent velocity of gas carrying powder and the level of bed height.

Opis:
Hydraulic calculations of water distribution systems are currently performed using computer programs. In addition to the basic calculation procedure, modules responsible for evaluating the obtained calculation results are introduced more and more often into the programs. This article presents the results of research on artificial neural networks with a radial base function (RBF) and a multilayer perceptron (MLP), aimed at determining whether they can be used to model the relationship between the variables describing the computational section of the water distribution system and the diameter of the water pipe. The classification capabilities of the RBF and MLP networks were analyzed according to the number of neurons in the hidden layer of the network. A comparative analysis of RBF networks with multilayer perceptron (MLP) networks was performed. The results showed that the MLP networks have much better classification properties and are better suited for the task of assessing the selected diameters of the water pipes.
