Opis:: This contribution is dealing with usage options of various material types for a creation of Christmas decorations at the first level of primary school. It summarizes creation from natural materials, paper, a combination of different materials as well as modelling materials. All these types of materials were tested at primary school with children. We also show here results of chil-dren's work, that they can create themselves. It comes to combining several parts during the classes, namely the promotion of the tradition of Christmas tree decorations, Christmas traditions linked to this and intersubject relations (elementary science and social studies). By creating products, we improve children´s fine motoring and with some products we support creativity.

Opis:: In the given study authors attempt to present the hierarchy of values according to children younger school age developed on the basis of the results of research carried out among pupils from 1st to 3rd classes. Citing the literature quoted examples of definitions of values and their classifications developed by researchers in various fields. In the main part of the article we present the results of research showing the hierarchy of values proposed by students. The authors also made a comparison of the results obtained by gender and taking into account environmental differences (students from the countryside and from the city). A summary of the conclusions of the study are important for the practice of teaching and educational process.

Safety issues of pupils during their presence in the educational process at schools and school facilities acquire important social topicality. Despite the ever-increasing seriousness of the problem, society does not give appropriate and adequate attention to the importance of these safety issues. There is an absence of comprehensive system of education and training of pupils in area of OSH (Occupational Safety and Health at Work) and lifelong education of teachers and educators of elementary schools with an active impact on the pupils' parents.

Opis:: Aim. The aim of this study is to analyse the conducted studies in order to reveal the effect of the strategies, methods and techniques used in elementary school mathematics courses, to apply critical strategies based on impartiality, and to critically evaluate and synthesize them. Methods. In this systematic review study, Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) Statement was used in order to prepare the systematic review protocol. The studies were based on students’ achievement resulting from student-centred strategy, methods and techniques. Results. The results of the study show that the number of participants of the primary studies centred on the range of 31- 60 to 90 and above. Moreover, the total number of studies conducted in different countries constitutes a significant proportion of the studies included. In most of the studies (f=87), significant differences were found in favour of the experimental group. Conclusion. Within the framework of the inclusion criteria of the research, it can be concluded that student-centred strategy methods and techniques statistically change the students' mathematics achievement. Among these methods and techniques, Realistic Mathematics Education, Computer Assisted Teaching Method, and Collaborative Learning Method were prominent.

Opis:: This article presents the design, implementation and outcomes of AlpConnectar, a Swiss project that exploits technologies for digitally-supported language exchange (LE) in primary schools. Launched in 2013, the project involves three Swiss cantons where different languages are spoken (namely German, French and Italian) and respectively taught as foreign languages since the third grade of primary school. In the first section of the paper the linguistic composition of Switzerland is briefly presented and the current methodologies and approaches in foreign language teaching in the country are introduced. After a literature review of online LE practices, the AlpConnectar project is presented, along with a LE example to illustrate how it works. The final sections present the results of the project, based on data collected from both pupils and teachers. The results seem to suggest that while digital technologies offer significant benefits for LEs, they are no silver bullet, and their impact depends on a number of contextual variables.

Opis:: The paper deals with an individual’s nature relatedness and a selected significant variable which may have an effect on it; especially it researches the studied high school relation to nature relatedness in primary school teacher trainees. It is research in quantitative design, using a questionnaire to collect data. The questionnaire was based on the Nature Relatedness Scale. Results show a significant effect of the type of high school finished on students’ nature relatedness. The highest scores in the construct analysed were obtained in nature and science- oriented branches, the lowest by graduates of social sciences and general grammar schools. Such results confirm the significance of education in natural science in forming a positive attitude to nature and disprove the cliché ideas of polytechnics producing environmentally insensitive graduates.

Opis:: There is a certain amount of research that proves that positive emotions and mood play an important role in creative human activity (Abele-Brehm, 1992; Tokarz, 2011; Kunat, 2015). Particularly valuable is ability to recognise emotions and communicate them. It is also important to accept experienced emotions, gain a skill to react accordingly as well as ability to evoke and regulate emotions. According to Salovey and Mayer’s model, the aforementioned dispositions are elements of emotional intelligence. It turns out that emotional intelligence can stimulate creative activity since it enables management of emotional expenditure (Nęcka, 2001). The paper presents results of research conducted among teachers of primary schools. It was assumed that there is a correlation between emotional intelligence and creative activity of teachers. The research can contribute to development of emotional skills of teachers and to intensify their creative activity. That, in turn, can translate into shaping of innovative school environment that fits the needs of contemporary young person - a student.

Opis:: Considering the current conditions in environmental education and training in Europe and the world, it is essential to put emphasis on the increase of the environmental literacy of pupils in the educational environment. The paper presents findings of the conducted research focused on the regional identity in relation to environmental literacy of pupils. The empirical research was of a quantitative-qualitative character. The subject of the research was the level of environmental literacy of pupils of primary education and selected aspects in its development in educational process. The research was conducted in 630 schools from all over Slovakia. In the paper we focus mainly on the findings obtained from questionnaires completed by primary education pupils and from interviews carried out by teachers. The research findings highlight the need of pupils for direct contact with nature with regard to the improvement of their level of environmental literacy.

Opis:: In this paper, we discuss the problem of articulation between levels in the educational system, as the transition from a rather more communicative, contentbased and holistic approach to English as a foreign language (EFL) teaching at primary level to more formal and explicit ways of foreign language (FL) teaching at secondary is often experienced as problematic by students and teachers alike (see, e.g., Muñoz, Tragant, & Camuñas, 2015). The results of a mixed methods analysis are presented, in which we analyzed, through a questionnaire and language experience essays, perceived continuity between input received in primary school and secondary school, as well as learners’ beliefs, attitudes and self-efficacy before and after they transitioned to secondary school. Twelve primary schools and six secondary schools in Switzerland participated in the study, with a total of 280 early learners of EFL (biological age 12-13 years, age of onset 8 years). We will argue that one of the main reasons why early FL instruction seems not to bear fruit later in secondary school is that, on the one hand, coherence in curriculum design and practice vary in a few-but crucial-aspects within and between primary schools. On the other hand, the fact that secondary education becomes a meeting point for mixed ability classes also seems to mitigate the potential advantages of an earlier start.

Opis:: There have been numerous studies conducted on the importance of multiple intelligence levels of learners and the significance of language learning. By contrast, this study dwells on exploring cultural intelligence, its components and the relationship between cultural intelligence and language learning. To achieve this aim, bilingual and multilingual primary school students were selected and administered a cultural intelligence questionnaire to detect whether or not there is a relationship between these two aspects. The results yield the fact that multilinguals have higher scores in cultural intelligence, showcasing that those who are open to other cultures and can easily adapt to new patterns of thinking are likely to learn languages with ease.

Opis:: Today’s children are growing up in a digital age that is far different from that of previous generations. Young children’s use of interactive screen media such as smartphones is increasing rapidly. A variety of mobile devices are all around, but they are still not accessible enough at schools, where the use of smartphones is usually forbidden.The aim of this research was to discover teachers’ opinion about using smartphones in class. The qualitative methodology was used in this study to analyse in depth the contextual factors concerning the use of smartphones during the education process. The analysis was based on data from 32 interviews with primary school teachers. The results of the study have shown that teachers do not incorporate smartphones into the education process, despite their positive attitude towards this kind of mobile devices.

Opis:: This article serves as a review of literature dedicated to the issue of selection criteria at the initial stage of swimming training of children in junior grades of primary school. Research methods used by the reviewed authors were varied. Only in some cases the overall anthropometric examination was used. This paper presents research results of multiple authors concerned with the swimming initiation age, basic somatic features (height and body mass), physical (motor) fitness, and physical function as major criteria for selection. The literature presented in this article lacks, however, information about potential correlations between the sports skills and measurements of motor skills and somatic features of children who are at an initial stage of competitive swimming. Therefore, this issue has not been discussed in the article.

Opis:: Schistosomiasis is the major source of morbidity in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. It is estimated that 207 million people are infected, of which 97% are in Africa. The aim of this study was the determining of prevalence as well as the phylogeny of S. haematobium among school children in Argungu Emirate, Kebbi State Nigeria. A total of 325 urine samples was collected from school children between 7 to 14 years. S. heamatobium eggs was examined under dissecting microscope and DNA was extracted from urine sample and COX1 gene was amplified by nested PCR. The PCR products were purified, sequenced and analysed. This study showed a prevalence of 32.09%, with male pupils having the highest prevalence. S. haematobium infections in children who fetch water in the river have 24 times higher risk of being infected while those who bath in the river have 158 times higher risk of being infected. Our sequences were phylogenetically related to S. haematobium isolate U82266 from Kenya and consistence with the predominant species in Africa. This was the first S. haematobium and S. mansoni co-infection reported in Nigeria. S. haematobium infection is prevalent among school age and significantly associated with water contact.

Opis:: Global research studies on distance education in foreign language learning focus primarily on secondary schools or higher education. The paper examines primary school foreign language teachers’ (n=119) perceptions of distance teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic compared to face-to-face education. The purpose of the study was to investigate the quality, achieved learning outcomes, advantages and obstacles faced by FL teachers in remote teaching. Based on the e-questionnaire, our study indicated that distance FL teaching was more challenging and stressful than classroom teaching because primary school students were not responsive to technology and needed parental guidance. Primary school students rely on cognitive and socio-emotional support from the FL teacher.

Opis:: Subject and purpose of work: At the time of constant changes in the sphere of education, any changes aimed at improving the quality of school’s work are of particular importance. Therefore the aim of the current research was to determine the quality of primary school’s work in its main areas as evaluated by parents. Materials and methods: The theoretical insights on the quality of school’s work were obtained on the basis of the review of the literature on the subject and acts of education law. The empirical data from the research was gathered through the diagnostic survey method with the use of the author’s research tool, i.e., a questionnaire addressed to parents of students in grades IV-VIII attending one of the primary schools in the Biała Podlaska District (N=103). Results: The obtained data showed quite a diverse assessment of the quality of the primary school’s work in some of its areas. Conclusions: Most of the parents surveyed gave specific proposals for actions to improve the quality of the school’s work, mainly concerning the increase of their participation not only in financial aid, but also in the didactic and educational area, which well forecasts and prompts school authorities and tutors to recommend the above-mentioned proposals and implement them in real life.

Opis:: An overview of the literature on gifted students suggests that students can be gifted by showing intelligence and/or creative abilities. Whether teachers are able to recognize intelligent and/or creative students is a matter of being skilled and can have a tremendous impact on students’ course of education. In out study, we included students of Slovenian primary schools who were either recognized as gifted or non-gifted by their teachers. To find out what differences occur in the creativity levels of gifted and non-gifted students, their creativity levels were recorded using the LV1Test, measuring their artistic-creative and artistic-appreciative abilities. Data analysis reveals that the gifted students were more successful in gaining a higher average score on the test, as well as the majority of individual items in the test.

Opis:: The article deals with an analysis of a teacher’s importance in contemporary early primary school education, which is the base of further education. It elaborates on the competencies, personal features and teachers’ roles at 1–3 grades of primary school. The article consists of two parts — theoretical one and research results. Opracowany kurs zawiera materiały dydaktyczne umożliwiające przeprowadzanie cyklu lekcji z zakresu cyberbezpieczeństwa oraz aplikację wspomagającą nauczanie. Projekt daje możliwość szerokiego zastosowania, zarówno na lekcjach informatyki, jak i w pracy samodzielnej uczniów.
This article describes a comprehensive project of cybersecurity classes for primary school students. The preparation of the course was preceded by an analysis of the Curriculum for primary school, current source data in scope of cyber security, and a diagnosis of students' needs in this area. The developed course contains didactic materials for conducting a series of lessons in the field of cyber security and supporting teaching application. The project gives the possibility of a wide application, both in computer science lessons and in the individual work of students.

Opis:: A child's entry into primary school is an important life event for parents that is accompanied not just by the child’s expectations but also those of the parents themselves. We have attempted to interpret them in the present study, which presents the results of a quantitative research investigation conducted through random multi-stage stratified sampling based on analysing relevant surveys and building on the authors' previous qualitative investigations. The sample studied was 504 parents of pupils in Years 1 and 2 who attended selected primary schools in the 2020/2021 school year. The main data collection tool was an online questionnaire that mapped primary school choice strategies and parents' expectations of the school, schooling, and teachers. These factors were then examined in relation to the variable choice of an educational program and parents' attitudes toward education (an academic approach versus a personalistic one). We found that parents' expectations of school choice are principally divided according to whether respondents believe school should fulfil the more traditional role of education or whether they prefer their children to develop their personalities and seek an alternative educational program or school for their offspring.

Opis:: The purpose of this article is to present economic determinants of the functioning of primary schools in Inowrocław borough as well as its neighbouring boroughs since 2010. The aspect of functioning of schools as budgetary units based on financial plans as well as principles, which must be guided by the organizational unit of the public sector are presented. Various statistical analyzes were carried out to approximate the interdependencies between the given inputs and the achievements in primary schools to highlight the result of the so-called economic calculation. Then, all the data concerning individual primary schools from the analyzed period were collected to attempt to indicate the most similar boroughs in terms of expenditures and results achieved in primary schools as well as to indicate the most prosperous boroughs in this respect based on cluster analysis. The Central Statistical Office turned out to be indispensable, from which a lot of information about local data was obtained and thanks to which boroughs could be compared in many aspects. The source documents received from units serving individual boroughs, such as financial annual reports or information on the state of implementation of educational tasks, were the most helpful in conducting a study on the functioning of primary schools in individual boroughs. The article uses the data for the years 2010-2017.

Opis:: The article presents the manner of work of science teachers on the basis of students’ opinions. The research included 870 6th grade primary school students, whose teachers had different work experience and level of education. The authors used the diagnostic survey as the research method. Flander’s analysis category system was used for the analysis of classroom interactions. In order to establish the relationship between the pairs of quality variables, the chi-square test of independence was used. It has been found that the teaching style is consistent with an adopted teaching model. There are two main types of teaching models: a model based on cognitive psychology and behavioural psychology. The model is reflected in the teacher’s teaching style, which might be reactive or directive. In the students’ opinion science teachers, particularly those with the shortest work experience, most often transmit their knowledge to students during classes (directive style). Those with more seniority and experience encourage students to perform certain tasks more frequently (reactive style). Science teacher’s education does not influence the teaching style and the majorityof teachers prefer a syncretic style. Students of the teacherspreferring a directive style revealed lower interest in sciencethan those who were taught in reactive style.As a result of this disinterest, the studied students only occasionallyperformed activities in direct contact with nature.

Opis:: The article discusses general issues related to creating the space of educational objects in terms of colour. The perception of school space is influenced by many factors such as light, temperature, air quality, space flexibility, sense of belonging, space complexity and colour. The latter plays an important role in the perception of rooms and influences human behaviour, because apart from sound and smell, it is one of the most important stimuli perceived by our brain. Nevertheless, most of the existing schools in Poland which were built up to 1990 do not take into account colour as a factor influencing student behaviour. This issue has only recently received attention. This article presents a case study of Maria's Dąbrowska Primary School No. 1 in Wrocław. For the needs of this school, as part of the "Constructing Cultural Educational Space" program organized by Wrocław Contemporary Museum, a project was prepared to introduce colour into the interior while maintaining the historical character and substance of the object and taking into account the influence of colour on the child’s psyche. The presented interior rearrangement project may become the beginning of further research on the issue of colour and its role in shaping educational spaces.
W artykule zostały omówione ogólne zagadnienia dotyczące kreowania przestrzeni obiektów edukacyjnych pod względem kolorystycznym. Na odbiór przestrzeni szkoły wpływa wiele czynników takich jak światło, temperatura, jakość powietrza, elastyczność przestrzeni, poczucie przynależności, kompleksowość miejsca i kolor. Ten ostatni odgrywa istotną rolę w odbiorze pomieszczeń i wpływa na zachowania człowieka, ponieważ jest oprócz dźwięku i zapachu jednym z ważniejszych bodźców odbieranych przez nasz mózg. Mimo to większość z obecnie istniejących we Polsce szkół wybudowanych do 1990 r. nie uwzględnia koloru jako czynnika wpływającego na zachowanie ucznia. Dopiero od niedawna zwraca się uwagę na tę kwestię. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono studium przypadku Szkoły Podstawowej nr 1 im. Marii Dąbrowskiej we Wrocławiu. Na potrzeby tej właśnie szkoły w ramach programu „Konstruowanie Kulturalnej Przestrzeni Edukacyjnej” organizowanego przez wrocławskie Muzeum Współczesne przygotowano projekt wprowadzenia koloru do wnętrza z zachowaniem historycznego charakteru oraz zabytkowej substancji obiektu i przy uwzględnieniu wpływu koloru na psychikę dziecka. Zaprezentowany projekt przearanżowania wnętrza może stać się początkiem dalszych badań nad zagadnieniem koloru i jego roli w kształtowaniu przestrzeni edukacyjnych.

Opis:: Both for the first language (L1) and for all additional languages (L2 or L3), grammatical knowledge plays a vital role in understanding texts (e.g., Grabe, 2005). However, little is known about the development and interaction of grammar and reading comprehension in beginning foreign language learning, especially with respect to children with a minority language background. This longitudinal study, therefore, examined minority and majority language children’s English grammar and reading comprehension skills. The children attended a German-English partial immersion primary school and were tested at the end of Grades 3 and 4. As expected, we found grammar to affect reading comprehension but also reverse effects. Most importantly, the results did not reveal any differences between the two language groups, irrespective of the test. Therefore, immersion primary school programs seem to be suitable for minority language children, and these children do not automatically represent an at-risk group for foreign language learning.

Opis:: The presented study examined the relationship between teachers’ pedagogical beliefs and their experience of burnout. Its participants were 230 schoolteachers from fourteen Slovenian primary schools. The Questionnaire of Teacher Pedagogical Beliefs and Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey were applied. The findings suggest pedagogical beliefs as predictors of teacher burnout dimensions. Teachers’ negative pedagogical beliefs about students’ behavior and discipline maintenance are related to a greater experience of emotional exhaustion whilst negative beliefs about teachers’ trust in students and the role and responsibility of the teacher are related to a greater experience of depersonalization and decreases in personal accomplishment.

Opis:: Singing activity is the basis of music education and its essential implementation form at all stages of general education. Voice is a primary musical instrument and an elementary means for performing that enables pupils to approach musical art in an appropriate way so that they can successfully receive, experience and evaluate it. With the research we discover and prove the importance of mastering the vocal technique of teachers, which is a prerequisite for quality singing activity in primary school. From the stated it follows that the application of a quality method of vocal technique, which teachers use both in speech and singing undoubtedly means improving the quality of singing activity in the educational process. The results also highlight important correlations between teachers and pupils in music education, and especially in singing activities, where we determine the strong influence of teachers on pupils.

Opis:: The article deals with different attitudes parents have toward learning foreign languages in primary school. The main goal of the research was to determine the attitudes of parents towards learning foreign languages and whether there is a difference in their opinions depending on their level of education. The research was conducted on a group of parents of ninth-grade pupils attending Slovene primary schools (N = 200). Based on the results of our study, we found that the attitudes of parents towards learning foreign languages are fairly positive. A detailed analysis of the results, however, shows that there are differences in the attitudes of parents depending on the level of their education. Higher educated parents are more inclined to support learning foreign languages than parents with a lower level of education.

Opis:: The article presents the results of research on intellectual activity of primary school pupils participating in extracurricular activities, which were carried out under the program of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education entitled "Young Explorer's University". The research was carried out on specially organised classes in the form of non-formal education with a developed curriculum. The main research method was the diagnostic survey method, in which the technique was a questionnaire and the tool was a knowledge test. It was carried out using the Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) technique. In the article, most attention is paid to the change of intellectual activity in the context of pupils' cognitive processes in the adopted categories of tasks, i.e. memory, comprehension and use of information in typical and problematic situations, the concept of which was adopted on the basis of B. Niemierka's taxonomy.

Opis:: Aim. The aim of the research is to provide a scientific justification for the integrated development of general and subject-specific competences of primary school pupils. Methods. The exploratory qualitative case study was conducted in a private school in Lithuania. The integrated activities covered the content of Lithuanian language and science education, as well as general competences such as communication and digital competences. The activity was implemented in grade 4 with 12 pupils (8 boys and 4 girls). A semi-structured interview with the class teacher was also conducted. Results and conclusion. The data from the empirical study were analysed according to the following thematic clusters: interest in the activity, group work, searching for information in the encyclopaedia and in electronic sources, working with a robot when integrating the digital skills and the content of science education, descriptions of animals as a summarising and consolidating activity. The study found that if the educational process is well thought out, if the pupils are interested, they can work independently and support each other in explaining the content, while the teacher becomes an observer, a facilitator, and can concentrate on the pupils’ individual activities during this process. Well-designed tasks with the robot develop not only digital literacy skills, but also the reinforcement of subject content related to the use of concepts. Originality. The case study provides valuable insights into the implementation of an educational process that integrates general and subject-specific competences, and the detailed description of the activities shows which tasks support students’ independent learning.

Opis:: The article is devoted to the problem of the formation of the speech culture of primary school pupils who are carriers of dialectal speech. The modern linguodidactic representatives' and teachers' views of the problem raised are analyzed in the article. It was substantiated the practical value of the formation of the speech culture of primary school pupils, using at the same time, local dialects that students have mastered since childhood. The work also described the introduction of dialectal material into the educational process by a primary school teacher one of the mountain schools of the Nearcarpathian region. The study results of the formation of schoolchildren's speech culture are submitted in the context of dialect speech of the Ivano-Frankivsk region (Ukraine).

Opis:: The article presents results of our own research regarding acoustic properties of 110 classrooms in five typical primary schools in Warsaw. The target of the re- search was to assess the classrooms using established criteria. These criteria include the reverberation time and the speech transmission index. The research has shown a large diversity of acoustic properties of classrooms within each of the schools and between the schools, resulting from the classroom equipment and the school building construction. In addition, the assessment has indicated that classrooms in schools researched do not meet the established acoustic criteria (reverberation time and speech transmission index). Because the classroom equipment is different for younger forms (integrated teaching) and for older forms (subject teaching), the results have been analyzed separately for rooms for younger forms (0–III) and for rooms for older forms (IV–VI). Synthetic results prove the advisability of such di- vision. Correlation analysis has been conducted for the speech transmission index STI and reverberation time Tmf , as well as for the speech transmission index STI and the suggested reverberation time Twf defined in a similar manner as Tmf , but in a wider frequency range. The correlation between the speech transmission index STI and Twf is higher than that between the STI index and Tmf . The reverberation time Twf can therefore be used for a more precise assessment of acoustic properties of interiors with regard to verbal communication than Tmf . In addition, the paper presents estimated analysis results of the influence of selected classroom equipment (carpets) on its acoustic properties.

Opis:: Mikołaj Jazdon in his article presents an analysis and interpretation of a documentary that became a “trademark” of the young generation’s cinema from the decade of the Cinema of Moral Anxiety in Poland. Zygadło filmed the social behaviour of students in a Warsaw primary school to depict the fatal influence of the communist system on Polish youth, who were encouraged to tattle on each other. The method of portraying a social group from one place, as in Zygadłos Primary School, became popular among other documentary filmmakers from his generation. They began to shoot films about institutions like factories, schools or hospitals, focusing on the social relations between the people working there. These films were intentionally made as metaphors of Poland in the 1970s and of the rules operating in a country ruled by the Communist Party. The auteur strategy of depicting reality in a “pars pro toto” manner allowed documentary filmmakers to outwit the Party censors.

We analyze it in the selected item questionnaire us compiled sexuality and sex education, covering selected aspects of sexual behavioral attributes of people with intellectual disabilities, namely the frequency of occurrence of the sexual behavioral attributes of students with an intellectual disability by teachers of special primary schools. Selected incidence of sexual behavioral attributes analyzed in the light we have created a classification system. Research results show that with students awith intellectual disabilities are present sexual behavioral attributes not only at the level of tactile contacts, or non-coital sexual activities, but also sexual behavioral-level attributes coital sexual practices.

Opis:: Aim/purpose – Provision of basic education is pertinent to human capital development, poverty alleviation and abating the threat of insurgence in Africa. Governments in different countries in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) do budget and spend various amount of money on education every year, but little is known about the effect of such spending on education, especially primary school enrolment which forms the basic educational foundation. Design/methodology/approach – Using data for 24 countries from 2000 to 2016, this study assesses the effect of government educational spending on primary school enrolment in SSA by employing the System-GMM approach. Findings – The results show that government spending has significant (p ≤ 0.05) and positive effect on primary school enrolment in SSA. The results are further confirmed using different diagnostic tests which include the Arellano–Bond test for first and second order autocorrelation in the disturbance term and the Hansen J-test for the validity of the instrumental variables. Other variables analysed (control), which have positive influence on enrolment, include GDP, general number of teachers available, and percentage trained teachers. Population growth rate negatively influences enrolment. Research implications/limitations – The study therefore concludes that increasing spending on education by governments in SSA is sine qua non for improving primary school enrolment rate in the region. Originality/value/contribution – This study has contributed empirically and theoretically to the body of knowledge. The scope covered also makes the study uniquely robust and different from previous ones, though scanty, country-based assessments.

It is very important already at the early stage to understand that each child is different; they have different physical and emotional development, individual characteristics, as well as a different approach to understanding and learning things. Therefore, in the primary school it is important for the teachers to create a positive, highly social, interactive and creative environment so that the children can develop and learn more successfully. Wellbeing has a great importance in the school environment in order to create teachers’ and children’s satisfaction with life, positive relationships with others, as well as a positive and successful learning environment. The family, as well as the teachers who are involved in the development of the children’s lives, especially in the first grades at school, are one of the most essential factors that define the personal growth of the young children.

Opis:: This theoretical paper reviews the major theories and models of learning and views them in the light of two major psychological perspectives of learning; behaviorist and constructivist. The educational process has become the dominant response to challenges in all the domains of modern life. The key to a good primary education is the quality of its teachers. Quality education enables people to develop all of their attributes and skills in order to achieve their potential as human beings and members of society. A deeper understanding of the students’ behavior enables the teacher to help guide them through the educational process. Understanding development, or the long-term changes in growth, behavior, and knowledge, helps teachers to hold appropriate expectations for students as well as to keep students’ individual diversity in perspective. From kindergarten through the end of high school, students double their height, triple their weight, experience the social and hormonal effects of puberty, and improve basic motor skills.

Opis:: The article presents selected issues regarding axiological education at Polish lessons in IV–VIII grades of primary school. Such education is related to both the way students communicate with the world of values, and evaluation processes which are ingrained in works of literature and various cultural texts, as well as the matters regarding proper understanding of linguistic phenomena overned by expression of axiological content. Lessons at school should include axiological communication based mainly on a dialogue between the teacher and students, which facilitates mutual stimulation of both in the atmosphere of freedom, respect, tolerance and kindness. The article highlights the issue of patriotism, which is important in terms of culture and society, and at the same time essential in terms of educational aims. Patriotism and its different faces were described as part of modern multiculturalism, which demands tolerant behaviour towards “aliens”. Nowadays, we can notice the need to combine patriotic tradition with the new model of patriotism that opens itself to European and global values.

Opis:: The aim of this study was to propose a classification of teachers’ burnout patterns. For this purpose, a qualitative analysis of different burnout patterns shown in a sample of Slovenian primary school teachers was performed. Respondents’ burnout scores were obtained via the MBI-ES. Eight distinct burnout profiles emerged from the analysis, indicating that the territory between the positive and negative endpoints of teacher burnout is complex. The findings of the study could be used as a framework for future research regarding teacher burnout and for designing interventions for its amelioration.

Opis:: In the paper we present partial results of comprehensive research, which focused on attitudinal and behavioral attributes sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities and their socio-cultural and ethical contexts. We analyze include only those items of us compiled questionnaire sexuality and sex education, which concerned the assessment of selected sexual behavioral attributes of students with intellectual disabilities and assessing differences in sexual behavioral attributes of students with intellectual disabilities and students without intellectual disabilities by teachers of special primary schools. Conclusions tracing sexual behavioral attributes show that for students with intellectual disabilities in special schools present some sexual behavioral attributes at the level of premature sexuality, hypersexuality and coital sexual practices.

Opis:: Learning in unknown circumstances is a great challenge for young people, particularly those who lack the ability to regulate their emotions. This text presents the results of research on the image of the life of students in higher grades of primary school, measured by the sense of self-efficacy and the sense of helplessness. The research was conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic among 303 students. It was found that (1) students rather express their belief in their own effectiveness (agency), and, at the same time, (2) half of the students indicated the feeling of helplessness; (3) helplessness is significantly higher among girls; (4) in the case of girls, there is a clear and strong negative relation between the sense of effectiveness and the helplessness.

Opis:: Children begin to fully understand evaporation at the age of 11 years, but they already have some idea of this phenomenon in preschool age. The paper presents the results of a research exploring the understanding of evaporation by 6- and 9-year-old children. The research used the method of a narrative based on incorrect information in order to verify whether and how well children would discover the errors in that narrative and how they could explain the process of evaporation. The incorrect narrative method is inspired by the science fiction film genre, which uses false assumptions to prove something that is not true. According to the research, half of the children knew that evaporation accompanies the process of cloud formation, but only half of the children who knew that (one-fourth of the respondents) could detect an error in the narrative. The reason for that is believed to be children’s lack of critical thinking and limited structured knowledge of evaporation in the water cycle in nature.

Opis:: Artykuł dotyczy analizy ćwiczeń z podręczników klasy 4 i 5 związanych z tematem „Ludzie i czas”, według ich rodzaju. Metoda analizy treści została podzielona na kategorie (typem ćwiczenia była konkretna transformacja), a następnie porównano rodzaje ćwiczeń w podręcznikach wydanych przez sześciu wydawców. Uaktualniona wersja taksonomii Blooma stała się podstawą kategoryzacji ćwiczeń edukacyjnych. Próbka badawcza składa się z 2101 ćwiczeń edukacyjnych wykorzystywanych na lekcjach historii. Wyniki pokazują, że większość (ponad 50%) ćwiczeń dotyczy zapamiętywania treści. Ćwiczenia o wyższym stopniu trudności poznawczych (kreatywne, analityczne lub syntetyczne) pojawiają się w podręcznikach sporadycznie. Ten trend widoczny jest w podręcznikach wszystkich badanych wydawców.
The article deals with an analysis of grade 4 and 5 textbook exercises related to the topic of People and Time according to their type. We categorize the method of content analysis (the type of learning exercise was the specific transformation) and compare the types of learning exercises in the textbooks issued by six publishers. A revision of Bloom's Taxonomy is used for categorizing the learning exercises. The research sample consists of 2101 learning exercises related to history lessons. The results show that the majority of the exercises are related to memory (over 50% of all exercises). Conversely, learning exercises of a higher cognitive difficulty (creative, analytical, or synthetic) only appear sporadically in the textbooks. This trend is similar for the textbooks of all the researched publishers.

Opis:: Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia analizę nowo powstających polskich szkół, a jego celem jest określenie najważniejszych tendencji i problemów projektowych w kontekście wysokich oczekiwań stawianym obiektom dla najmłodszych użytkowników. Analiza wykonana została w oparciu o dane źródłowe (materiały projektowe) i obejmowała badania układu funkcjonalnego budynku oraz lokalizacji obiektu w odniesieniu do jednostki osadniczej. W rezultacie udało się zidentyfikować kilka tendencji dominujących w projektach oraz elementy występujące tylko w pojedynczych przypadkach. Na ich podstawie można zdefiniować wnioski charakteryzujące architekturę nowo powstających szkół, wskazując mocne strony opracowań oraz elementy, które należałoby brać pod uwagę w przygotowywaniu przyszłych projektów szkół w kontekście dzisiejszego podejścia do projektowania. Bezsprzecznie jakość przestrzeni oraz architektury analizowanych obiektów reprezentuje wysoki poziom. Pozostają jednak obszary, w których wiele można zrobić, aby architektura współczesnych polskich szkół jeszcze lepiej odpowiadała wymogom zmieniających się uwarunkowań społeczno-gospodarczych.
This article presents an analysis of newly established Polish schools and its aim is to identify the most important trends and design problems in the context of high expectations for facilities for the youngest users. The analysis was based on source data (design materials) and included an analysis of the functional layout of the building and the location of the facility in relation to the settlement unit. As a result, it was possible to identify several trends dominating projects and elements occurring only in individual cases. On their basis, it is possible to define conclusions characterizing the architecture of newly created schools, indicating the strengths of the studies and elements that should be taken into account in the preparation of future school projects in the context of today's approach to design. Undoubtedly, the quality of the space and architecture of the analysed objects is on a high level. However, there are still areas where much can be done to make the architecture of contemporary Polish schools to even better meet the requirements of the changing socio-economic conditions.

Opis:: This paper reports on the research on year five pupils’ understanding of generalised arithmetic, which aimed to investigate the understanding of year five pupils’ commutative property and the property of zero together with its correlation with their mathematical achievement. Data for the study were collected via paper and pencil assessment answers for two items. Findings showed moderate achievement for both of the tasks. The pupils’ explanation illustrated their poor conceptual understanding of commutative property and the property of zero. However, this understanding is not correlated with their mathematical achievement in school. It shows that an outstanding student in school did not necessarily acquire conceptual understanding of commutative principle and the property of zero.

Opis:: The aim of this research was to find out the primary pupils´ knowledge level about the Winter Olympic Games in Banska Bystrica. The research file consisted of 261 second stage primary pupils, 145 boys and 116 girls at the age from 10 to 15, who filled in the questionnaire ten days after finishing of the Winter Olympic Games held in Sochi. We used 14 questions in the questionnaire, consisting of the closed, half-open and open questions and 3 identification questions related to the sex of a respondent, age and respective school year of individual respondents. We can claim that among the most interesting findings there were: Firstly, more than 95% pupils knew what town was the organiser of the Winter Olympic Games in 2014. Secondly, more than 75% of the pupils were watching these Winter Olympic Games too. The most information about the Winter Olympic Games the pupils gained was via the TV and the internet. The favourite sports watched by the pupilswere ice hockey, biathlon, ski-jump and snowboarding. Almost 60% of the pupils could answer the question: “Which town will be the Winter Olympic Games organiser in 2018?” What is more, it is really pleasing to note that the Winter Paralympic Games have started to be in the primary pupils´ attention as well.

Opis:: In recent years, dance-based body-movement regulated video games have been harnessed in school-based physical health activities. Such programs are used in European primary schools to help schoolchildren to be of better health. In the Greece Primary School curriculum, use of these vidoe games cover aspects of physical, emotional, social and mental functioning and well-being. Herein, the correlation between movement and emotion is evident. This study was to investigate the significance of Play Dance and its impact on primary school education in Algeria. In it, a four-week educational intervention in the field of dance was applied during school recess (morning and afternoon). The daily physical activity was administered in the form of imitating dance moves basing on the Freeze Game (Just Dance Kids 2014) modal and accounted for 10 minutes of the recess time. The sample consisted of 45 male students of the 4rth class, of primary slimani school residence of Naama, a municipality of Mecheria. Pre- and post-testing of the invested program was based on the INDARES program. Data analysis was performed by way of descriptive statistic indices, Paired Samples Correlations, and Paired Samples Test. The results showed differences between the start and end of the educational intervention. It is, hence, recommended as it engenders considerable physiological and motor improvements thst correlate with the children’s overall health.

Opis:: The article defines the basic theoretical principles of philosophical and pedagogical anthropology in the organizing process of dialogue training of primary school teachers. The author analyzes the methodology of the outlined problem in the historical retrospective – from the ideas of ancient Greek philosophers to scientific works of modern scholars and teachers. The importance of implementing an anthropological approach to the organization of the dialogue training and education of the child is emphasized, particularly in the elementary school educational process. It is substantiated that philosophical and pedagogical anthropology allows to thoroughly analyze the essence of a person, her spiritual world; to realize the uniqueness of the inner world of each individual; to consider the idea according to which humanity has no future without proper unity, dialogue of cultures, interaction and communication, etc. The author argues that the implementation of the principle of dialogue in the educational process is a real change in the direction of activity: from knowledge - to creative thinking and human culture.

Opis:: This article describes the results of research whose purpose was to identify typical learning styles of upper primary school pupils. The learning styles of pupils were determined using the VARK questionnaire. Two typical groups of pupils that differed in preferences of individual learning styles were subsequently identified by using a generalized cluster analysis. The first group of pupils (71%) preferred learning style K. It was comprised mostly of older pupils and pupils from the city and it included more girls than boys. The second group of pupils (29%) preferred learning style R. It was comprised mostly of younger pupils, and girls and boys were equally represented.

Opis:: The teacher today works in close relationship with others, which forces him to accept a limited set of attitudes and ways of action. I assume for the purposes of this paper two groups of factors for the teacher modeling approach: external – pedagogical supervision and school-imposed regulations deriving from state teachers’ and society’s expectations, especially from parents and students themselves, the internal factors – the process of educating and teaching every teacher and crucial, long-term formation of conscience. Opis:: Introduction and aim. Childhood hypertension is an important precursor to adult hypertension. This study was used to investigate blood pressure level and nutritional status of pupils in public primary schools that were benefitting from the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme in southwest Nigeria. Material and methods. A cross-sectional study conducted among randomly selected 40 public primary schools where feeding programme was on-going in Oyo and Ogun States. Pretested semi-structured questionnaire was used to obtain information from the pupils. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure readings were assessed using relevant tools. Results. Some of the pupils (129; 41.6%) aged 10-15 years (p<0.0001) were stunted compared to those aged 5-9years (60; 11.3%). Undernutrition among pupils aged 10-15 years was 47.7%, which was significantly higher than (p<0.0001) among pupils aged 5-9 years, 18.5%. Overall, prevalence of hypertension among the pupils was 6.0%. No significant difference between male and female groups with regards to MUAC (p=0.115), blood pressure (p=0.302) and BMI-for-age (p=0.100). A significant association found between blood pressure and BMI-for-age (p=0.004). Conclusion. Prevalence of blood pressure among the pupils assessed suggests more presence of high blood pressure in the population of primary school pupils. School feeding programme could be an avenue to improve nutritional indices among the pupils.

Opis:: This paper deals with relationships between Jewish and non-Jewish students in primary school in Galicia at the turn of 19th and 20th century. Galicia was a frontier area on which various nations, religions and cultures were in touch. The dominating role was that of Poles and Ukrainians, but there were also Armenians, Roms and Germans, and Jews constituted an important element of the peculiar cultural mosaic on these lands. At the end of 19th century, young Jews entered primary schools, at which they shared classrooms with their Christian peers. Primary school became a platform of closer contacts, exchange and confrontation of diverse cultures and religions. For Jewish children, attending it resulted in the process of acculturation, and also that of assimilation. This paper is based upon the memoirs and recollections of Jews, and also Poles, attending primary schools or middle schools in Galicia.
Artykuł dotyczy relacji między uczniami Żydami i nie-Żydami w szkolnictwie elementarnym w Galicji na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. Galicja była s miejscem styku różnych narodów, religii i kultur. Dominującą rolę odgrywali Polacy i Ukraińcy, byli tam obecni Ormianie, Cyganie, Niemcy, ważny element w mozaice narodowościowej tego kraju stanowili także Żydzi. Pod koniec XIX w. uzyskali dostęp do szkół elementarnych, w których zasiadali w jednej ławce z chrześcijańskimi rówieśnikami. Szkoła publiczna była płaszczyzną wymiany i konfrontacji różnych kultur i religii. Dla dzieci żydowskich uczęszczanie do niej prowadziło do akulturacji a także do asymilacji. Niniejszy tekst został oparty na wspomnieniach i relacjach Żydów, a także Polaków, uczęszczających do szkół elementarnych lub średnich w owym okresie

Opis:: The assessment of teachers’ exposure to noise in primary schools was carried out on the basis of: questionnaire studies (covering 187 teachers in 3 schools), noise measurements at the teachers’ workplaces, measurements of the school rooms acoustic properties (reverberation time and speech transmission index STI in 72 classrooms), analysis of statistical data regarding hazards and occupational diseases in the education sector. The studies have shown that noise is the main factor of annoyance in the school environment. Over 50% of questioned teachers consider noise as annoying and near 40% as very annoying or unbearable. A-weighted equivalent continuous sound pressure levels measured in classrooms, teacher rooms and common rooms are in the range of 58–80 dB and they exceed 55 dB (criteria of noise annoyance). The most frequently reported subjective feelings and complaints (over 90%) are: growth of psychical and emotional tension, irritation, difficulties in concentrating, hoarseness, cough. Noise in schools is also a harmful factor. High A-weighted equivalent continuous sound pressure levels ranging from 80 to 85 dB, measured in corridors during pauses and in sports halls, can cause the risk of hearing damage among PE teachers and persons oversensitive to noise. The latter concerns both teachers and pupils. High background noise levels (55–65 dB) force teachers to raise their voice. It can lead to the development of an occupational disease – chronic voice disorders due to excessive vocal effort lasting for at least 15 years. In the education sector 785 new cases of this disease were reported only in 2008. Poor acoustics in classrooms (reverberation time ranging from 0.8 to 1.7 s, STI < 0.6 in 50% of classrooms) have an adverse influence on speech reception and make the teaching and learning processes difficult.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of the research conducted in 2018 among 240 randomly selected teachers from the Kujawsko-Pomorskie Voivodeship. It aimed at recognizing the main barriers and difficulties that teachers face while implementing the elements of computational thinking and coding into IT education in grades I-III. Such changes have been introduced recently into the primary school curriculum by the Ministry of Education in Poland. The data collected from the surveys and the individual interviews allowed for identifying the main problems, among which the lack of experience and limited access to educational materials are the most commonly listed. The participants of the research study were also supposed to take the test aimed at verifying their general knowledge of IT tools as well as their programming skills. While the first one could be assessed as satisfactory the level of the later was much lower than expected. During the interviews, the teachers also complained that activities such as planning, analyzing and constructing exercises corresponding with the level of children's maturity are time-consuming. Relatively high number of students in the classes and insufficient infrastructure also do not help to ease the problem.

Opis:: Porównano treści programowe z zakresu chemii zawarte w obowiązujących aktualnie (tzw. „starych") i przygotowywanych do wprowadzenia (sukcesywnie począwszy od klasy IV do VI), poczynając od roku szkolnego 2012/2013 (tzw. „nowych"), podstawach programowych dla przedmiotu przyroda w szkole podstawowej. Wykazano, że ilość treści programowych z zakresu chemii w „nowej" podstawie programowej jest bardzo wyraźnie zwiększona i, co bardzo ważne, przewiduje się, iż zajęcia mają być prowadzone tak, by rozwijać samodzielność uczniów na zasadzie „pomyśl sam, zrób sam", czyli tak, by ukształtować zdecydowanie proekologiczne postawy u młodzieży kończącej szkołę podstawową. Wymagać to będzie odpowiednich pomocy naukowych, a szczególnie podręczników. W związku z tym dokonano autorskiej analizy obecnie dostępnych podręczników przyrody. Przeprowadzono także przegląd aktywizujących metod nauczania, jakie mogą być wykorzystane do prowadzenia zajęć „chemicznych" w ramach przyrody. Przedstawiono autorskie konspekty przykładowych zajęć z zastosowaniem wybranych metod aktywizujących.
A comparison of curriculum in chemistry at the current (ie "old") and prepared for me introduction of (succession progressively from class IV to VI) starting from the school year 2012/2013 (ie "new") basis curriculum for the subject of nature in primary school. It nas been shown that the quantity of curriculum in chemistry in the "new" basis curriculum is increased very significantly. This is very important because is expected, that lessons will be conducted so that pupils develop self-reliance i on the basis "think yourself, make yourself " in order to forge a strongly pro-ecological attitudes in youth closing the elementary school. This will require the appropriate teaching aids, including textbooks. Therefore, the authors made the analysis of currently available textbooks of nature. Also conducted a review of activating teaching methods which can be used to teach "chemistry" in nature lessons. Presented copyright conspectus examples lessons with the use of selected activating i methods.

Opis:: Although mental rotation ability has been researched broadly in cognitive psychology and neural studies, development of mental rotation and the effective method of training are rarely considered as an area of study in the education field. We aimed to study the development of mental rotation through the training program by three-dimensional twisty puzzle in two groups of school students (8-9-years, n=13 and 11-12-years, n=17). This quasi-experimental study with the pre-test post-test design was conducted at the Tehran international school girls. The students' mental rotation ability was evaluated using the well established testing methods (VMRT; Vandenberg & Kuse, 1978). After the initial test and training program (twelve 60-minute sessions), the results of the within-subject ANOVA indicated that 8-9-years school children were incompetent after post-test through follow-up session, whereas the 11-12-years school students did make gain in post-test and three months after training program. The study findings suggest that development of MR ability by three-dimensional puzzles can be wielded throughout extra school training program among primary school students.

Opis:: The article is about problems in increasing motive activity for children of primary school age, the aim of which is improving their health. Thanks to a sufficient amount of physical activity children of all age groups have an optimum level of health, physical development and will acquire motor skills. One of the important problems of our time is to improve the health of children. The study indicates a relatively low level of health in children of primary school age, which is associated with decreased levels of physical activity. Studies show that for children of 6 to 7 years of age the number of hours on average and high levels of motor activity tend to decrease. At the age of six 2 hours. 10 min (9,1%) are spent at the average level, 40 minutes (2.6 per cent) – at the high level, and at the age of seven – 1 hour. 7 min(7,35%) are spent at the average level, 20 min (1,05%) – at the high level. The greatest number of hours is spent at the basic level (44,5% at the age of 6, 39.4% – at the age of 7). At the age of six 88.3% of the time are given to the base and low level, at the age of seven – 91.6 %, 11.7 % and 8.4 % are given to the average and high levels accordingly, which indicates a sedentary lifestyle. The solution to the problem of preservation of health and ensuring harmonious development of personality in educational institutions is of great practical importance. In this regard physical culture, as the basis of ensuring the strengthening of children's health, has new challenges that require the development and creation of physical education system in secondary schools which provides improvement of all components in health - mental, social, physical. One of the conditions of effectiveness in the system of organization of sports and recreation activities is the introduction of various forms of work, taking into account the interests and motives of the children.
W artykule omówiono problemy dotyczące poprawy motywacji aktywności dzieci uczęszczających do szkół podstawowych. Dzięki odpowiedniej ilości aktywności fizycznej, dzieci ze wszystkich grup wiekowych mogą osiągnąć optymalny poziom zdrowia i rozwoju fizycznego, nabędą też odpowiednie umiejętności ruchowe. Ważnym problemem naszych czasów jest poprawa stanu zdrowia dzieci. Wyniki przedstawionych w artykule badań świadczą o stosunkowo niskim poziomie zdrowia dzieci w wieku szkolnym, co wiąże się z obniżonym poziomem ich aktywności fizycznej. Badania dowodzą, że u dzieci w wieku 6 i 7 lat liczba godzin, w trakcie których dzieci podejmują aktywność fizyczną na średnim i wysokim poziomie, wykazuje tendencję spadkową. Grupa wiekowa sześciolatków spędza średnio 2 godziny 10 minut (9,1%) na poziomie średnim, 40 minut (2,6%) na poziomie wysokim, a w przypadku siedmiolatków – 1 godzinę 7 minut (7,35%) na poziomie średnim i 20 min. (1,05%) na poziomie wysokim. Największą ilość czasu spędza się na poziomie podstawowym (44,5% w wieku lat 6,i 39,4% w wieku lat 7). W przypadku sześciolatków 88,3% czasu przypada na poziomy podstawowy i niski, natomiast w przypadku siedmiolatków – 91,6%; 11,7% i 8,4% czasu przypisuje się odpowiednio poziomom średnim i wysokim, co wskazuje na siedzący styl życia. Rozwiązanie problemu zachowania zdrowia i zapewnienia harmonijnego rozwoju osobowości w placówkach szkolnych ma ogromne znaczenie. W tym względzie kultura fizyczna, jako podstawa zapewnienia i wzmocnienia zdrowia dzieci, stoi w obliczu wyzwań, które wymagają rozwoju i utworzenia takiego systemu wychowania fizycznego w szkolnictwie podstawowym, który zapewni poprawę wszystkich elementów składowych zdrowia – umysłowego, społecznego i fizycznego. Jednym z warunków skuteczności w systemie organizacji ćwiczeń sportowych i rekreacyjnych jest wprowadzenie urozmaiconych form pracy, uwzględniających zainteresowania i motywacje dzieci.

Opis:: This article highlights the socio-pedagogical role of the school through the perceptions of schoolteachers who work in Greek elementary school, which are related to social pedagogy. The results of our research follow the literature review on socio-pedagogical issues. For the research process, a research tool (questionnaire) was developed to examine the extent to which each identified socio-pedagogical problem concerns teachers. The survey was completed by 225 teachers of all specialties, most of them primary school teachers. As a result of their responses, teachers are largely confronted with students’ behavioral problems, problematic communication between school and family, child abuse and neglect, and differences in the specific learning needs of children. It is proposed to focus the socio-pedagogical research on all of the above in order to strengthen teachers in their work.

Opis:: Thesis. The aim of the research is to confirm the role of language as a tool empowering school students to act independently in educational activities and sociocultural environment. This can be achieved by encouraging students to actively participate in educational activities, to learn a language and other academic subjects without any direct input. Methods. The article is based on a scientific literature analysis and monitoring at one of the language integrated learning centres. It studies discussed hereof showcase the importance of language integration and a broader understanding of teaching students the basics of language skills. Results. The analysis shows language skills are a result (synthesis) of abilities and competencies combined by different disciplines and programmes. It is directly related to the methods, measures, situations and environments employed in educational activities. The studies discussed hereof showcase the importance of language integration and a broader understanding of teaching students the basics of language skills. Conclusion. Based on the research results it is possible to distinguish language as an independent learning tool. This is proven by such student skills as high motivation and inclusion; courage and self-confidence; ability to analyse, reason and summarise information; openness to learning; independence; curiosity; focus and concentration. The comparison of the data and the literature analysis allow concluding that this is one of the most resultative methods to develop the language skills of students in an integrated way.

Opis:: Temat artykułu został sformułowany jako „Sytuacja dziecka rozpoczynającego naukę w szkole podstawowej”. Tematyka dotycząca podjęcia przez dzieci obowiązku szkolnego jest w bieżącej chwili bardzo popularna. W przypadku niektórych osób pojawiają się liczne obawy, czy na pewno pierwszoklasista poradzi sobie w szkole nie tylko ze stresem, ale i licznymi obowiązkami, które często są dla niego trudne do zaakceptowania. Artykuł ma charakter teoretyczno-badawczy. Przybliżono w nim terminologię występującą w tekście. Dokonano krótkiej charakterystyki sytuacji dziecka rozpoczynającego naukę w klasie pierwszej. Opisano postać współczesnego wychowawcy pracującego w szkole podstawowej. Zaprezentowano ideał nauczyciela, który powinien pracować z dziećmi w wieku przedszkolnym. Zwrócono uwagę na jego życzliwość do dzieci, pomysłowość, kreatywność, cierpliwość, pasję do wykonywanego zawodu oraz przyjazne nastawienie do rodziców swych podopiecznych. Przedstawiono również problematykę badawczą oraz przedmiot badań. Opisano metodę, technikę i narzędzia badawcze, a także dokonano charakterystyki miejsca przeprowadzonych badań oraz opisu badanych grup. Obszerna część artykułu to omówienie wyników badań własnych – analiza i interpretacja.
he subject of the article was formulated as ‘The situation of a child who started primary school’. The subject of the compulsory schooling is very popular at the moment. For some people, there is a great deal of doubt whether a first-grader will be able to cope at school not only with stress but also with many responsibilities that are often difficult for them to accept. The article is of a theoretical and research nature. The terminology found in the text is approximated. There is a brief description of the situation of a child who has started school in the first grade. A description of the contemporary educator working in elementary school in presented. An ideal teacher to work with preschool children is depicted. Attention was paid to their friendliness towards children, ingenuity, creativity, patience, passion for the profession and a friendly attitude towards the parents of their pupils. The research topics and the subject matter of the research are also presented. The method, technique and research tools are described as well as the characteristics of the place of the conducted research together with a description of the researched groups. A large part of the article is a discussion of the results of our own research―an analysis and interpretation.

Opis:: The paper focuses on the centralization of the Literary Texts in teaching Italian language. During the last thirty years, the Italian Undergraduate School has adopted methods to teach Italian, based on the distinction between Language and Literature, reshaping the role of Literary Texts or decreasing the lecture and analysis of Literary Texts in teaching Italian language. It’s out of doubt that the different modern languages theories have conditioned the methodologies of the language acquisition and the discussion of the theoretical model isn’t our aim. We would like to suggest that a literary text is a basic medium to learn a language, provided that the literary survey considers complete elements: cultural, historical, linguistics, rhetorical. Opis:: The objective of the study was to assess the status of physical education at different levels of school education in rural and urban areas of Przemyśl County. The study included physical education teachers working in primary, middle and high schools. The analysis showed that most of the schools in the city have better conditions for the implementation of obligatory physical education classes. In addition, most teachers complain about conditions in schools. According to physical education teachers, combined classes, lack of equipment and appropriate sports base are the most common causes of making it impossible for them to accomplish the program of physical education in schools in the Przemyśl County.
Celem badań była ocena stanu wychowania fizycznego na różnych poziomach edukacji szkolnej na terenach wiejskich i miejskich powiatu przemyskiego. Badaniami (kwestionariusz ankiety) objęto nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego pracujących w szkołach podstawowych, gimnazjalnych i ponadgimnazjalnych. Przeprowadzona analiza wykazała, iż lepsze warunki do realizacji obowiązkowych zajęć wychowania fizycznego posiada większość szkół znajdujących się w mieście. Dodatkowo można stwierdzić, że większość nauczycieli narzeka na warunki panujące w szkołach. Według nauczycieli wychowania fizycznego łączenie klas, brak sprzętu i brak odpowiedniej bazy to najczęstsze przyczyny uniemożliwiające realizacje programu.

Opis:: Artykuł obejmuje próbę zbadania genezy oraz rozwoju sieci szkolnictwa podstawowego na obszarze gminy miejsko-wiejskiej Szadek w jej współczesnych granicach. Analizy objęły wybrane obiekty oświatowe utworzone w mieście Szadek i okolicznych wsiach. Wykorzystano w tym celu wybrane dokumenty, akta prawne a ponadto źródła prasowe i dane statystyczne. Na potrzeby artykułu dokonano periodyzacji dziejów szkolnictwa podstawowego na badanym obszarze. W pierwszej części autorzy przeanalizowali rozwój szkół w okresie przedrozbiorowym, a następnie przedstawili wyniki analogicznych studiów w odniesieniu do okresu rozbiorów oraz ostatniego stulecia (1918–2018).
The article examines the origin and development of primary education network in Szadek municipality in its present boundaries. The analysis covers chosen educational facilities in the town of Szadek and in the surrounding villages. The material used in the study includes selected documents, legal acts, press information and statistical data. For the purposes of the article, the history of primary education in the studied area was divided into periods. First, the pre-partition period was analysed, then the time of the Partitions, and finally the past century (1918–2018).

Opis:: Aim. This study is an ethnomathematical study that aims to describe and interpret the philosophical value and geometrical patterns of the famous architecture and ornament of the Indonesian traditional Mosque. Methods. This report subsequently used an ethnographic method, with data being obtained through observation, documentation, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Furthermore, the study subjects were a cultural practitioner and a group of educators, containing five primary school teachers in Central Java, Indonesia. Interviews, observation, and documentation were conducted during the research. The data was analysed qualitatively. Results. First, from the data analysis, it was found that there are several philosophical values contained in the architecture and ornaments of a Javanese traditional mosque such as the relationship that must always exist between humans and God and fellow human beings, Islam, iman (faith), Ihsan (kindness), openness, honesty, obedience, and humility. The second indicates the relationship between the Javanese architecture and ornament of the Indonesian traditional Mosque and the geometrical patterns (the cuboid, and cylinder), symmetrical patterns, and geometry transformation (rotation) used as the source of learning and starting point to the mathematical learning process. Conclusions. These results were specifically useful to primary school teachers when teaching geometry. Through culture as a context or starting point, the new mathematical learning resource was also used for geometric learning. In addition, the philosophical significance of these artifacts fostered an interest in the indigenous culture and good character values.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of a study in which we analysed planning of musical objectives in the psychomotor domain prepared by 372 Slovenian general education teachers. The research results showed high share of objectives pertaining to the taxonomy category of speech behaviours, which was followed by the categories of gross bodily movements, finely coordinated movements and non-verbal communication. The above facts confirm that music objectives can be classified in the prevailing psychomotor domain and show the utilization of a chosen taxonomy model. The research results also indicate that Slovenian general education teachers are aware of the need for active approaches to music teaching although they pay less attention to music objectives planning in the category of non-verbal communication which exceeds the mere use of words and represents the basis for contemporary approach of music teaching through musical doing and making.

Opis:: The study examines the impact of the Flipped Classroom (FCM) on the development of key competences for the 21st century (KC21) in future teachers. Experimental design with two parallel groups was used. The sample consisted of 122 students of the Faculty of Education, i.e., experimental group-EG (60), and control group-CG (62). The EG attended lectures implementing the FCM, while the CG received traditional instruction. Results show that there is no significant difference in self-assessment of competence development between the EG and CG related to creativity, responsible attitude towards work, health and environment. There is a significant difference in the self-assessment of competences related to socio-emotional skills, problem solving, critical thinking, information and ICT literacy and learning to learn. The conclusion is that the implementation of the FCM can influence the development of the majority of KC21.

Opis:: The aim of this study was to observe the importance of sport activities among 5th grade pupils in the canton of Schwyz (located in Central Switzerland) and to identify possible differences between children of various nationalities. The cross-sectional study was carried out in 30 randomly selected classes during the school year 2015/2016. The sample (n = 468) consisted of 52.8 % boys and 47.2 % girls, aged 10.8+0.7 years old. Socio-demographic characteristics, interests and participation in sports were established using a standardized questionnaire. The majority of the observed primary school children (85.7%) participate regularly in sports. Approximately 5 hours of sports are practised on average per week; about 18 % are engaged in such activities for more than 7 hours. The percentage of fully sport-abstinent children is around 3.5 %. In accordance with other studies, the influence of immigration backgrounds seems to be mainly moderated by gender. While boys with foreign or Swiss origin are equally enthusiastic about sports, there is clearly a lower level of participation in sports in general and especially in sports clubs among girls who come from an immigrant background. Therefore, they should be considered one of the important target groups for exercise promotion programs.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of a study aimed at the identification of selected subjective and situational determinants of the well-being of children and their adaptation to the environment of an elementary school. The study was conducted on a group of pupils from grades II to V (N = 173) and was based on an analysis of the questionnaires: SPAS (Boersma Chapman 1979), SUSPO (Mikšik 2004) and own tool QSL. The results indicated the determinants of changes in well-being in time related to the sense of exclusion and level of sadness. An analysis of the data pointed to the spheres of the educational environment changes in which could increase the level of child satisfaction from schooling and learning.

Opis:: The main aim of the study was to determine teachers’ awareness of the development of visual and auditory perception in pupils with mild intellectual disabilities at a mainstream school in the Czech Republic. Based on this main aim, additional goals were set: to determine to what extent teachers are aware of the importance of developing visual and auditory perception in pupils with mild intellectual disabilities, by what means teachers develop visual and auditory perception in pupils with mild intellectual disabilities, and how teachers use pupils’ homework to develop visual and auditory perception. To achieve the aims of the study, the qualitative method was used with the technique of a semi-structured interview. The results show that teachers are aware of the importance of developing perceptual motor functions in pupils with mild intellectual disabilities, but the level of training in working with pupils with mild intellectual disabilities in mainstream primary schools is low. Teachers should receive more expert advice on the development of perceptual motor functions, especially from the staff of school counseling services.

The paper analyzes the awareness of students with intellectual disabilities in sexual and partner relationships and awareness of teachers of special schools on issues of sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities. Presented partial results of comprehensive research, which focused on attitudinal and behavioral attributes sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities and their socio-cultural and ethical contexts, evidenced by the presence of partner and sexual relationships with students and schoolgirls special schools and low awareness on issues of sexuality and relationships among students with intellectual disabilities as well as teachers of special primary schools. The end of the article therefore highlights the need for systematic professional and institutional sex education of people with intellectual disabilities.

Opis:: Accession of Poland to the European Union induced a variety of changes in different areas of life, including education. A second language was introduced as a compulsory subject in kindergarten and primary school and two compulsory foreign languages in general lower and upper secondary schools. English is the most popular of all languages in all types of schools, regardless of the level of education they represent. Globalization of the English language, the process which can be observed nowadays, has a significant impact on actions taken by schools to popularize learning this language. Therefore, the research was performed with a view to achieving a better understanding of the popularization of English language learning in primary schools in the larger context of a variety of factors. Basing on the analysis of research results, the conclusions reflecting real needs of learners as far as the more effective English language learning is concerned have been drawn. Sharing the research findings with the primary schools which participated in the research will contribute to their practical application.

Opis:: The aim of the scientific article on the general Karaite school in Trakai in 1918–1923 is to discuss five years of the only Karaite school that operated in the first years after Poland regained independence. Karaims are currently the smallest ethnic minority in Poland, which has retained its cultural identity, partly due to the importance of knowledge and science as superior religious values. The word karaim itself means the reader, which is why the schools in which the skills of reading the scriptures were so important. The first official information about the Karaite school in Trakai comes from 1576. The activities of the school were interrupted by the outbreak of the First World War and the hostilities forced the Karaims to leave Trakai. The history of the Karaite school in Trakai appears again in archival documents from the interwar period. The article was prepared on the basis of archival documents kept in the Lithuanian Central State Archives, in the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius in the document collection of the Archives of the Karaim Clerical Administration in Trakai and in the Lithuanian Central State Archive in Vilnius in the fond of the Vilnius School District Board in the files of the school inspectorate of the Trakai district. This text discusses the activity of the Karaim general school in Trakai (1918–1923), taking into account school conditions, organizational and structural changes, the curriculum, methods and forms, and the composition of teachers and students, and shows the importance of the Karaite school for Karaims and the Trakai community. The short years of operation of the Karaite school in Trakai testify to its phenomenon, because it was the only school of a religious minority in the period in question, which constituted the basis for the development and preservation of their cultural identity for the Karaims.
Celem artykułu naukowego dotyczącego powszechnej szkoły karaimskiej w Trokach w latach 1918–1923 jest omówienie pięciu lat działalności jedynej szkoły karaimskiej, która funkcjonowała w pierwszych latach po odzyskaniu przez Polskę niepodległości. Karaimi są obecnie najmniejszą mniejszością etniczną w Polsce, która zachowała swoją odrębność kulturową, po części za sprawą znaczenia wiedzy i nauki, jako nadrzędnych wartości religijnych. Samo słowo karaim oznacza bowiem czytającego, dlatego tak istotne były szkoły, w których zdobywano umiejętności czytania pisma świętego. Pierwsze oficjalne informacje o szkole karaimskiej w Trokach pochodzą z 1576 r. Działalność szkoły przerwał wybuch pierwszej wojny światowej a działania wojenne zmusiły Karaimów do opuszczenia Trok. Na nowo historia szkoły karaimskiej w Trokach pojawia się w dokumentach archiwalnych z okresu międzywojennego. Artykuł został opracowany na podstawie dokumentów archiwalnych znajdujących się w Litewskim Centralnym Archiwum Państwowym, w Bibliotece Litewskiej Akademii Nauki w Wilnie im. Wróblewskich w kolekcji dokumentów Archiwum Karaimskiego Zarządu Duchownego w Trokach oraz w Litewskim Centralnym Archiwum Państwowym w Wilnie w zespole Kuratorium Okręgu Szkolnego Wileńskiego w teczkach inspektoratu szkolnego powiatu trockiego. W niniejszym tekście omówiono działalność powszechnej szkoły karaimskiej w Trokach (1918–1923), uwzględniając warunki szkolne, zmiany organizacyjne i strukturalne, program nauczania, metody i formy, skład osobowy nauczycieli i uczniów oraz ukazano znaczenie szkoły karaimskiej dla Karaimów jak i dla społeczności trockiej. Krótkie lata działalności szkoły karaimskiej w Trokach świadczą o jej fenomenie, bo była to jedyna szkoła mniejszości religijnej w omawianym okresie, która stanowiła dla Karaimów podstawę rozwoju i zachowania ich tożsamości kulturowej.

Opis:: In Slovenian schools pupils have few opportunities to observe, understand and enjoy works of art. Contemporary art education in Slovenia should aim to combine the development of productive and receptive artistic abilities. This would make more comprehensive artistic development of pupils possible. In this study we monitored the development of the art-appreciation abilities of 10–11-year old pupils in primary schools in northeastern Slovenia. Th e results show that the level of art-appreciation abilities is somewhat average, however, girls showed higher developed art-appreciation abilities than boys. Based on the results we can conclude that the development of art appreciation abilities in our art-education program is given too little attention.

Opis:: The paper presents the results of studies on graphomotor skills and indicates the phenomena that may adversely affect the acquisition of know-ledge and school skills, including learning a foreign language. In the con-text of teaching foreign languages, graphomotor difficulties were related to the skill of writing and in particular to the graphic level of handwriting. Emphasis was also laid on graphic problems discovered in the course of qualitative analysis, which can be found also at the level of spelling, since their occurrence may especially hinder learning a new language.

Opis:: The article focusses on developing reading by Polish young learners of English as a foreign language. The discussion is conducted within a psycholinguistic componential perspective, which allows for a detailed analysis of various components that constitute the reading skill. Most attention is given to phonological awareness at the decoding stage of reading and its role in beginning reading. First, the author deals with syntactic and orthographic differences between reading in English and reading in Polish. The results of several cross-linguistic studies are presented to illustrate the importance of inter-lingual differences in reading in a foreign language. Then the article reports on the analysis of five coursebooks of English for Polish young learners. The study aimed to investigate how each of the coursebooks develops the reading skill. The analysis looked at the methods of teaching reading, types of reading tasks, the explicitness of phonological instruction, presentation of letter-sound correspondences and the development of other reading-related abilities. The results of the study revealed that the coursebooks differ in the way they teach beginning reading, raising important questions of both didactic and theoretical nature.

Rozważania zamieszczone w artykule dotyczą roli nauczyciela edukacji wczesnoszkolnej w rozwijaniu inteligencji emocjonalnej uczniów. Według D. Golemana inteligencja emocjonalna to m.in. zdolność do rozpoznawania własnych uczuć oraz umiejętność kierowania nimi. Obecnie praca nad kierowaniem własnymi emocjami stanowi jedno z największych wyzwań dla nauczyciela, co uzasadnia podjęcie tego tematu.

Opis:: The article highlights the meaning of music activities in early childhood education. Opis:: The present text deals with the cooperation between teachers and parents in the field of upbringing. The analysis of ranges, aims, forms of co-operation and factors stimulating its effectiveness was conducted based on the research done among 90 primary school teachers from Poland and 120 from Hungary. The cooperation between teachers and parents rests on e.g. exchange of experience and it is a significant factor supporting the comprehensive children’s development. This close cooperation enables early diagnosis and elimination of critical problems.
Niniejszy tekst dotyczy współpracy nauczycieli i rodziców w zakre-sie wychowania. Analiza zakresów, celów, form współpracy, czynników warunku-jących jej efektywność została dokonana na podstawie badań przeprowadzonych wśród 90 nauczycieli szkół podstawowych z Polski oraz 120 z Węgier. Współ-praca obu tych środowisk polegająca m.in. na wymianie doświadczeń stanowi istotny czynnik wspierający wszechstronny rozwój dzieci i umożliwiający wczesną diagnozę i eliminowanie niepokojących zjawisk.

Opis:: In this article, we present a part of data from two researches that focused on attitudinal and behavioural attributes of sexuality of people with intellectual disabilities and their socio-cultural and ethical contexts. This article represents a comparative research probe into the moral preferences in area of parenthood and reproduction of people with intellectual disabilities, and of professional staff of social service homes and teachers of special primary schools in Slovakia. As a research tool, we used part of standardized Attitude Questionnaire ASQ - Attitudes to Sexuality Questionnaire (Individuals With An Intellectual Disability) from authors Cuskelly, Gilmore (2007). The results demonstrate that the moral preferences of reproduction and parenthood of persons with intellectual disabilities are mostly negative, even though teachers of special primary schools more morally accept rights of reproduction and parenthood, compared to professional staff of social service homes.

Opis:: The article presents the results of a comprehensive study (N = 497) among Slovene primary school teachers with the aim of examining practical work in Primary Science courses (age 9-11). The study examined the attitude towards practical work and obstacles. The aim was also to find out whether the level of socio-economic development impacts on attitudes and obstacles. The main obstacles to the implementation of practical work at class level are: lack of material support, oversized classes, poor spatial conditions and a need for assistants. Surprising results followed an analysis of differences in the development of the environment: primary school teachers from less developed regions show a more positive attitude towards practical work compared to those from more developed regions. In addition, obstacles are perceived similarly regardless of the socio-economic situation.

Opis:: Seventeen workshops on STEAM and Media Literacy, involving 500 children aged 3-10, their families and other community members, in a pandemic context, was the end result of the third phase of the ‘Digital Citizenship Academy’. This community-based action research project began in early 2015, in a Lisbon neighbourhood of Portugal. The workshops were planned, implemented, monitored and assessed by 29 teachers during an online training initially planned to be developed on site. Despite the Covid-19 outbreak, teachers implemented strategies to overcome the lack of resources and autonomy of many students, especially younger ones, and the training focus remained on the production of scientific, artistic, technological, but also media content. The workshops allowed the creation of media and STEAM products primarily focused on the arts, but in which science, technology, engineering and mathematics were present. Results point to the fact that STEAM projects gain in relevance when associated with Media Literacy activities, and vice versa. Although there is a general feeling that the situation resulting from the pandemic prevented the achievement of more significant results, the training course was suitable to pedagogical practices, provided an opportunity for sharing of experiences, practices and ideas, fostered cooperation and interdisciplinary, and resulted in useful resources.
