The Teisseyre-Tornquist Zone (TTZ) is the longest European tectonic and geophysical lineament extending from the Baltic Sea in the NW to the Black Sea in the SE. This tectonic feature defines a transition zone between the thick crust of the East European Craton (EEC) and the thinner crust of the Palaeozoic Platform to the SW. The TTZ is evident from the seismic data as a perturbation of the Moho depth as well as from magnetic and gravity anomaly maps and heat flow distribution. For over a century, the TTZ has been considered a fossil plate boundary of the EEC corresponding to the limit of early Palaeozoic palaeocontinent Baltica. The results of quantitative interpretation of gravity and magnetic data, integrated with data from the new reflection seismic profiles crossing the TTZ, indicate the continuation of the Precambrian basement of the EEC and its lower Palaeozoic cover toward the SW underneath the Palaeozoic Platform. Potential field modelling also suggests the occurrence of a crustal keel underneath the TTZ. These results imply the location of a Caledonian tectonic suture, marking the site of the collision between Avalonia and Baltica, not along the TTZ, but farther SW, in NE Germany and SW Poland.

Opis:
This paper evaluates near ship-ship collision situations in the Tagus River Estuary using a simulation model of ship navigation in restricted waters. The simulation model consists of a ship collision avoidance model based on the Artificial Potential Field (APF) method, which has been improved to account for the lateral distribution of traffic along the route, the ship type and length and speed development of the ships along the trajectory. AIS data of ships entering and leaving the port of Lisbon are analysed to obtain the main characteristics of traffic parameters used as input for the traffic simulation model, such as: the routes of the vessels, speed distribution along the routes, traffic density and characteristics of the ships in each route, among others. First, the improved model of ship navigation and the Monte Carlo simulation technique are used to simulate the marine traffic in the Tagus River Estuary. Then, the concept of “ship domain” is used as collision criterion to determine the number of near collisions and the locations where they are most likely to occur. Finally, the simulation results are compared to the ones obtained from raw AIS data to assess the capability of the simulation model for marine traffic risk analysis.

Opis:
Advanced magnetic and gravity data analysis has been used to acquire geophysical constraints providing new insights into the geological structure of the Suwałki Anorthosite Massif (SAM). The large negative magnetic anomaly of the SAM anorthosite intrusion is a result of the negative inclination of remanent magnetization, directed antiparallel to the present Earth’s magnetic field. Several filtering processes were applied to the magnetic and gravity maps to better understand the subsurface geology of the SAM area. The geological analysis of residual magnetic and gravity anomaly maps reveals the presence of different rock units, reflecting variation in petrological composition of the crystalline basement rocks. The 2-D modelling of magnetic and gravity data delineate the location and extent of the anorthosite-norite massif. The data is consistent with a thick upper crustal body with density 2690 kg/m3, low susceptibility (0.005 SI) and natural remanent magnetization (1.95 A/m), having inclination of I = –68°, and declination of D = –177°. The rocks bordering the central anorthosite body consist of norite and gabbronorite, granodiorite, diorite and charnockite. These main crystalline basement crustal units are shown more precisely on a new geological map of the SAM.

Opis:
The paper presents results of ship's safe trajectory planning algorithms verification. Real navigational data registered from a radar with an Automatic Radar Plotting Aid on board the research and training ship Horyzont II were used as input data to the algorithms. The algorithms verified in the presented research include the Ant Colony Optimization algorithm (ACO), the Trajectory Base Algorithm (TBA), the Visibility Graph-search Algorithm (VGA) ant the Discrete Artificial Potential Field algorithm (DAPF). Details concerning data registration and exemplary results obtained with the use or real navigational data are introduced and summarized in the paper. Presented results prove the applicability of proposed algorithms for solving the ship's safe trajectory planning problem.
