    In the book we recommend, Zbigniew Zdunowski who taught philosophy and ethics for thirty years, shares his experience on how to speak of the perennial philosophical questions in a demanding environment of the contemporary high school. The work begins with the Word from the Author. Next, there are two parts divided into chapters. The first part With Philosophy Through Life consists of: I. Philosophy Introduces Itself, II. How Many Philosophical Words There Exists?, III. Almost Everything on Love, IV. Philosophy in Search for Freedom, V. The One Truth or The Many Ones?; Part II With Ethics Closer to Life: I. Ethics Introduces Itself, II. Is It Possible to Define Goodness? Three Steps to Understand Goodness, III. Problems with Man, IV. Ethical Aspects of Euthanasia, V. Aftermaths of the Black March, IV. Genderism, VII. On Tolerance From Another Perspective, VIII. How to Discuss with an Ethical Relativist. Next is the Summary and the Index of Names. Many chapters encourage to develop our interest in philosophy in appendices- Invitation to Thinking, there is also a part for more ambitious readers- as the Author calls them- The Short Logical Appendix, and finally there is a proposal titled How to Discuss with the Ethical Relativists When Arguments Fail? The Author prepared a wide variety of materials to which we, encouraged to critical thinking, may turn in various debates. Although the work refrains from offering a systematic study on philosophical schools, it can be an inspiring source for any reader interested in a deeper reflection on the variety of existential issues.

    The article presents the fundamental aspects of the encyclical Fides et ratio of John Paul II concerning the historical and theological context of contemporary culture. It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies that function according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth of the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, the cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, the reductionism of faith) are discussed. Further, the existential value of religious faith is demonstrated through the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, this article serves as an apologetic for the rational nature of faith. Truth is emphasized as a gift both contained in and received from God’s Revelation, a gift necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.
    Artykuł przedstawia fundamentalne aspekty encykliki Fides et ratio Jana Pawła II w odniesieniu do kontekstu historycznego i teologicznego współczesnej kultury. Wskazuje na aktualne problemy w harmonijnym egzystowaniu społeczeństw funkcjonujących według paradygmatów sprzecznych z prawdą absolutną stanowiącą przedmiot teologiczny. Omówione są tu błędy wynikające z modernizmu (subiektywny racjonalizm, poznawcza negacja wiary), postmodernizmu (relatywizacja prawdy, ateizm i antyteizm, redukcjonizm wiary). Wyjaśniono wartość egzystencjalną wiary religijnej jako ukazującej korelację sensu i prawdy, w ten sposób dokonując apologii racjonalnego charakteru wiary. Wyakcentowano prawdę jako dar zawarty w Bożym Objawieniu, niezbędny do odkrycia sensu ludzkiej rzeczywistości.

    The article presents the fundamental aspects of the encyclical Fides et ratio of John Paul II in relation to the historical and theological context of contemporary culture. It indicates current problems in the harmonious existence of societies functioning according to paradigms contrary to the absolute truth constituting the theological subject. The errors resulting from modernism (subjective rationalism, cognitive negation of faith) and postmodernism (relativization of truth, atheism and antitheism, reductionism of faith) are discussed here. The existential value of religious faith was explained as showing the correlation of meaning/sense and truth. In doing so, apologizing for the rational nature of faith. The truth was emphasized as a gift contained e received from God’s Revelation, necessary for discovering the sense of human reality.

    W artykule autor ukazał bogatą i wielostronną wizję uniwersytetu Benedykta XVI. W tej wizji zawarte są zagadnienia dotyczące zarówno misji badawczej, jak i formacyjnej. Podstawowym zadaniem prowadzonych badań akademickich jest poszukiwanie prawdy, także tej prawdy ostatecznej, którą jest Bóg–Mądrość. Wiara i rozum współdziałają w poszukiwaniu prawdy. Papież zachęcał badaczy nauk empirycznych do otwierania się na transcendencję, tak, aby rozum „poszerzony” mógł badać i zrozumieć także aspekty ponadempiryczne. Człowiek jest powołany także do dobra, a uniwersytet, pomagając akademikom kształtować postawy etyczne, realizuje właściwą sobie wizję humanistyczną. Doniosłe są też wskazania Benedykta XVI dotyczące uniwersytetu katolickiego. Uniwersytet noszący tę nazwę inspiruje się w swej działalności wiarą chrześcijańską oraz wiernością wobec katolickiego orędzia, które w ciągu wieków było nieustannie zaczynem kultury i światłem dla rozumu. Opierając się na motywacji nadprzyrodzonej, uniwersytet katolicki tym bardziej winien być zaangażowany w troskę o prawdę i formację chrześcijańską.
    In the article, the author presents a rich and multi-faceted vision of the Benedict XVI university. This vision covers both the research mission and the formation mission. The main task of the conducted academic research is to search for truth, including the ultimate truth, which is God–Wisdom. Faith and reason work together in the search for truth. The pope encouraged researchers of empirical sciences to open up to transcendence, so that “extended” reason could also investigate and understand supra-empirical aspects. Man is also called to good, and the university, by helping academics to shape ethical attitudes, realizes its humanistic vision. Benedict XVI’s indications regarding the Catholic University are also significant. The university bearing this name is inspired in its activities by the Christian faith and fidelity to the Catholic message, which throughout the centuries has been a constantly a leaven of culture and a light for reason. Relying on a supernatural motivation, a Catholic university should be all the more committed to the care of the truth and Christian formation.
    In dem Artikel präsentiert der Autor eine reiche und facettenreiche Vision der Universität Benedikt XVI. Diese Vision umfasst sowohl die Forschungsmission als auch die Bildungsmission. Die Hauptaufgabe der durchgeführten akademischen Forschung ist die Suche nach der Wahrheit, einschließlich der letzten Wahrheit, die Gott-Weisheit ist. Glaube und Vernunft arbeiten bei der Suche nach Wahrheit zusammen. Der Papst ermutigte die Erfahrungswissenschafter, sich der Transzendenz zu öffnen, damit die „erweiterte“ Vernunft auch die überempirischen Aspekte untersuchen und verstehen könne. Auch der Mensch ist zum Guten berufen, und die Universität, die Wissenschaftlern hilft, ethische Einstellungen zu formen, verwirklicht ihre eigene humanistische Vision. Bedeutsam sind auch die Hinweise Benedikts XVI. bezüglich der Katholischen Universität. Die Universität, die diesen Namen trägt, ist in ihren Aktivitäten vom christlichen Glauben und der Treue zur katholischen Botschaft inspiriert, die über die Jahrhunderte ein ständiger Sauerteig der Kultur und ein Licht der Vernunft war. Aus einer übernatürlichen Motivation heraus sollte eine katholische Universität umso mehr der Sorge um die Wahrheit und der christlichen Bildung verpflichtet sein.
