    This paper analyses changes in overeducation incidence in Poland in 2006‑2014. It finds that a rise in number of tertiary educated workers outpaced an increase in number of jobs requiring tertiary education, which resulted in a substantial growth of overeducation incidence. The overeducation increase was driven mainly by mild overeducation rather than severe overeducation. Overeducated workers are usually young with little job experience. Women are found at lower risk of severe overeducation compared to men, but relatively more at risk of mild overeducation. A low risk of overeducation is associated with having studied technical and health programmes.

    Democratization and massification of higher education has resulted in the appearance of a disadvan-tageous phenomenon known as the overeducation of society. The term refers to a situation in which there is a surplus of people with higher education in relation to the needs of the society and the labor market. This has led to academic diploma inflation, which does not have such a high value as it used to and currently does not guarantee professional success and high social status. The aim of the article is to present selected aspects of this problem in American society. In this study, the definitions of the eponymous phenomenon are presented as well as statistical data and the main trends regarding the overeducation of the society in the United States.

    The educational expansion in many advanced economies in the past few decades has triggered a debate on overeducation. The aim of the study is to provide an empirical evaluation of the wage effects of overeducation in different occupational groups. We also analyse whether these effects differ between genders. In order to achieve this, we use individual data from the Structure of Wages and Salaries by Occupations database of firms with 10 or more employees in Poland. We use data from the 2006-2014 waves of the survey. We calculate the impact of overeducation on wages using a Mincer-type wage regression model. We show that on average workers are rewarded for being overeducated, but the size of wage effects of overeducation differs among particular occupational groups. We show also that the choice of the method of measurement of overeducation affects the results

    The aim of the article is to indicate the criteria for hiring in the current neoliberal society and the requirements of modern employers towards people applying for employment. The text discusses the main assumptions of neoliberal ideology in the context of the functioning of individuals in the labor market and their careers. The notions of academic diploma inflation and overeducation are also defined. The article indicates that today in many cases formal qualifications are an absolute minimum in the recruitment process, and for employers, apart from formal credentials, crucial are the behavioural and personality aspects of potential candidates.

    W artykule zwrócono uwagę na zmiany w pracy jako źródło przeobrażeń w systemie edukacji. Trudności wyrażające się niedopasowaniem struktury kształcenia do potrzeb rynku pracy wynikają jednak z autonomii rozwoju edukacyjnego i „skokowego” charakteru reform przy jednoczesnym ewolucyjnym charakterze zmian w strukturach zatrudnienia. Przemiany w pracy wskazują, że w dalszej przyszłości coraz większy odsetek pracujących będzie poszukiwał pracy dającej szanse samorealizacji, jak też mającej walory socjalizujące. Stawia to przed edukacją w Polsce nowe zadania, których realizacja będzie wymagała istotnych zmian w poszczególnych segmentach systemu kształcenia.
    The article discusses changes in the workplace as a source of transformation in the education system. Difficulties understood as a mismatch between the education structure and the labor market needs stem from the autonomy of educational development and an abrupt character of reforms with, at the same time, an evolutionary character of employment changes. Changes in the workplace indicate that in the distant future more and more percentage of working people will be looking for jobs that could give them greater opportunities for self‑realization, or jobs that could provide social values. As a result education in Poland will be challenged with tasks whose accomplishment will require substantial changes in particular segments of the education system.
    В статье обращается внимание на изменения в сфере труда как источник преобразований в системе образования. Трудности, отражающиеся в несоответствии структуры образования потребностям рынка труда, вытекают, однако, из автономии развития образования и неустойчивого характера реформ, в то время как изменения в структуре занятости носят эволюционный характер. Изменения в сфере труда показывают, что в дальнейшем будущем все большая часть работников будет искать работу, дающую возможность как самореализации, так и социализации. Это ставит образование в Польше перед новыми задачами, реализация которых потребует значительных изменений в отдельных сегментах системы образования.
