Opis:
Stopy typu Al-Si-Mg o zawartości krzemu w przedziale 4 do 24 % mas. (siluminy) należą do jednych z najbardziej rozpowszechnionych tworzyw wykorzystywanych w odlewnictwie metali nieżelaznych.
Al-Si-Mg cast alloys with a silicon content in the range of 4 to 24 % by weight (silumins) are among the most common materials used in the casting of non-ferrous metals. Their popularity is due to a large set of properties, inter alia, low density or high mechanical properties and casting properties. On the other hand, that uses characteristics of the technological process of this group of materials in the emergence of their porosity and microshrinkage which can be a source of cracks. The method allows the elimination of the negative effects of this group of defects is Surface High-Temperature Plastic Processing (PWPP method). Modification of the surface layer of the cast with this type of treatment is particularly desirable for the structural components of the transport industry, electrical engineering or in the building industry. These applications require a coherent castings, devoid of discontinuity of the surface layer of the structure and increased mechanical properties. One way to improve on the second properties is heat treatment, which consists of oversaturation and artificial aging. The paper presents research on the selection of optimal parameters of heat treatment time and temperature for the AlSi7Mg0,3 alloy after PWPP method.

Opis:
The as-cast structure of permanent mould (PM) (alloy I) and high-pressure die castings (HPDC) (alloy2) of the AlMg5Si2Mn alloy has been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, micro-hardness measurements, transmission electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray analysis. Inside the α-AI grains in both alloys, curved plate-like precipitates were detected in both alloys. Examination of these precipitates revealed a number of features, such as: (1) the composition of the precipitates is very close to the stochiometric Mg2Si compound; (2) precipitates are aligned along dislocations; (3) the precipitate density is much higher for high-pressure die castings where the α-AI matrix contains more dislocations than in permanent mould castings; (4) precipitates lie inside the α-AI grains where they are randomly distributed. Between the Mg2Si larnellas, precipitates were not observed. Microhardness tests show that the hardness of the alloy cast into a permanent mould is Iower than that of a high-pressure die casting. This observation reveals the origin of high strength in an AIMg5Si2Mn alloy subjected to HPDC.

Opis:
The effect of possible modification and refining effect of Al-Cu-P-based pre-alloy combined with Fe on the microstructure and the silicon morphology change in hypereutectic Al-Si cast alloy was studied. The samples in the as-cast state were observed by optical and scanning electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The 3D morphology of both primary and eutectic silicon was observed by using colour and deep etching in detail. The results showed that the AlCu19P1.4 pre-alloy (1.07 wt.%) combined with the addition of Fe (0.02 wt.%) has a significant effect on the change of the amount, size and morphology of primary Si. This is significantly refined and changes the shape from a coarse irregular star-shaped, polyhedral, or plate-like shape to a fine polyhedral shape. The average size of the primary Si is reduced by about of 78 % from 135 μm to 28 μm and the number of primary Si particles increased from 7.4 to 237. No change in the morphology of the eutectic Si was observed; a refinement of the structure from a coarse needle/plate-like to a fine plate-like structure was seen. The depth etching method using HCl was very effective in the study of the 3D silicon morphology observed, which could be observed in detail without the presence of artefacts.

Application of simulation analysis has become increasingly inseparable part of the design process of casting technology. The possibility of a virtual observation of the temperature distribution, heat transfer between the liquid metal and the mould, evaluation of the nature of the liquid metal flow are values that are impossible to monitor during real-time production. Through the computer simulations, there is a possibility of a preliminary assessment of the phenomenon without the need for expensive and time consuming trials. On the example of the diesel engine compressor rotor the process of preparation of foundry technology, simulation analysis, the visualization of filling of the mold cavity and solidification of the liquid metal was presented. The casting was performed on the VC3000D INDUTHERM furnace that uses the phenomenon of POV (Pressure over Vacuum).

Opis:
During the casting of aluminium alloys, the susceptibility to form oxide films is high, due to the turbulent flow of the melt and constant exposure of new surface area. This have impact on the properties of the material and the service life of the casting components. Also, hydrogen solubility in the solid state are very low, which ends up being rejected and causing porosity. After pouring, when solidification occurs, another phenomenon arise called shrinkage. This require excess molten metal to be fed during this phase change to eliminate or reduce the effect of volumetric changes. Filling and feeding during aluminium casting is therefore of paramount importance, and careful steps needs to be undertaken to reduce possible defects in the castings. The objective is to apply studied literature guides and rules and simulate the casting process of aluminium alloys, and understand the how certain defects are occurring during this process. This is a preliminary study towards the understanding of the “macro evolution” of Al-Si-Cu alloy during solidification, which will be the bases for the study of microsegregation of the specified alloy.

Opis:
In order to study the effects of various gating systems on the casting of a complex aluminum alloyed multi-way valve body, both software simulation analysis and optimization were carried out. Following, the aluminum alloyed multi-way valve body was cast to check the pouring of the aluminum alloy valve body. The computer simulation results demonstrated that compared to the single side casting mode, the casting method of both sides of the gating system would reduce the filling of the external gas, while the air contact time would be lower. Adversely, due to the pouring on both sides, the melt cannot reach at the same time, leading to the liquid metal speed into the cavity to differ, which affected the liquid metal filling stability. The riser unreasonable setting led to the solidification time extension, resulting in a high amount of casting defects during solidification. Also, both gating systems led the entire casting inconsequential solidification. To overcome the latter problems, a straight gate was set at the middle pouring and the horizontal gate diversion occurred on both sides of pouring, which could provide better casting results for the aluminum alloyed multi-valve body.

Opis:
The study involved using the liquid-solid compound casting process to fabricate a lightweight ZE41/AlSi12 bimetallic material. ZE41 melt heated to 660 °C was poured onto a solid AlSi12 insert placed in a steel mold. The mold with the insert inside was preheated to 300 °C. The microstructure of the bonding zone between the alloys was examined using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The chemical composition was determined through linear and point analyses with an energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS). The bonding zone between the magnesium and aluminum alloys was about 250 μm thick. The results indicate that the microstructure of the bonding zone changes throughout its thickness. The structural constituents of the bonding zone are: a thin layer of a solid solution of Al and Zn in Mg and particles of Mg-Zn-RE intermetallic phases (adjacent to the ZE41 alloy), a eutectic region (Mg17(Al,Zn)12 intermetallic phase and a solid solution of Al and Zn in Mg), a thin region containing fine, white particles, probably Al-RE intermetallic phases, a region with Mg2Si particles distributed over the eutectic matrix, and a region with Mg2Si particles distributed over the Mg-Al intermetallic phases matrix (adjacent to the AlSi12 alloy). The microstructural analysis performed in the length direction reveals that, for the process parameters tested, the bonding zone forming between the alloys was continuous. Low porosity was observed locally near the ZE41 alloy. The shear strength of the AZ91/AlSi17 joint varied from 51.3 to 56.1 MPa.

Opis:
Computational Materials Engineering (CME) is a high technological approach used to design and develop new materials including the physical, thermal and mechanical properties by combining materials models at multiple techniques. With the recent advances in technology, the importance of microstructural design in CME environments and the contribution that such an approach can make in the estimation of material properties in simulations are frequently discussed in scientific, academic, and industrial platforms. Determination of the raw material characteristics that can be modeled in a virtual environment at an atomic scale by means of simulation programs plays a big role in combining experimental and virtual worlds and creating digital twins of the production chain and the products. In this study, a new generation, alternative and effective approach that could be used to the development of Al-Si based wheel casting alloys is proposed. This approach is based on the procedure of optimizing the physical and thermodynamic alloy properties developed in a computer environment with the CME technique before the casting phase. This article demonstrates the applicability of this approach in alloy development studies to produce Al-Si alloy wheels using the low pressure die casting (LPDC) method. With this study, an alternative and economical way is presented to the alloy development studies by trial and error in the aluminum casting industry. In other respects, since the study is directly related to the automotive industry, the reduction in fuel consumption in vehicles is an expected effect, as the new alloy aims to reduce the weight of the wheels. In addition to conserving energy, reducing carbon emissions also highlights the environmental aspects of this study.

Opis:
The aim of the current study was to examine the structure of an alloy treated at various temperatures up to 2,000–2,100 °C. Among research techniques for studying alloy structure there were the electron and optical microstructure, X-ray structure, and spectral analysis, and for studying the developed furnace geometric parameters the authors employed mathematical modeling method. The research was performed using aluminum smelting gas-fired furnaces and electric arc furnaces. The objects of the study were aluminum alloys of the brand AK7p and AK6, as well as hydrogen and aluminum oxide in the melt. For determining the hydrogen content in the aluminum alloy, the vacuum extraction method was selected. Authors have established that treatment of molten aluminum alloy in contact with carbon melt at high temperatures of 2,000–2,100 °C has resulted in facilitating reduction of hydrogen and aluminum oxide content in the melt by 40-43% and 50-58%, respectively, which is important because hydrogen and aluminum oxide adversely affect the structure and properties of the alloy. Such treatment contributes to the formation of the extremely fine-grained microstructure of aluminum alloy.
