Opis:

The article describes an implementation of wireless sensor network (WSN) based on the IEEE 802.15.4-2006 standard, which was designed to monitor environmental conditions (e.g. temperature, humidity, light intensity, etc.) on a given area. To carry out this task, a self-organization algorithm called KNeighbors was selected. It exhibits low computational complexity and is satisfactory with respect to energy consumption. Additionally, the authors proposed a novel routing algorithm and some modifications to the MAC layer of the IEEE 802.15.4 standard. The article discusses the selected algorithms and procedures that were implemented in the network.

In the paper, we describe a "plug-and-play" configuration of nodes of a tactical network on the basis of XML configuration templates and a network plan, developed during the network planning process. We present the concept of a configuration repository, an XML-based database that stores network structure and configuration data, and describe how the Simple Network Management Protocol is used to apply the settings to network devices. We also comment on a possible use of the next-generation NETCONF protocol for such a task.

Opis:

The number of data centers (DCs) used for storing and processing data has evolved rapidly in recent years. However, the operations held by DCs may relate to a number of disadvantages, primarily presuming in excessive energy and power consumption due to the poor management standards applied. This may lead to a situation in which many devices within the DC operate at full capacity without any tasks assigned for actual execution. A Software Defined Network (SDN) is a network architecture where the control plane is an independent entity from the data plane, yielding to a higher controllability and flexibility over the network. Through the utilization of SDN architecture, a highly functional energy aware network may be established. In this paper, we propose a heuristic algorithm that monitors the current status of an SDN network (in addition to all ingoing and outgoing traffic), in order to dynamically and efficiently allocate network resources by ensuring that only the necessary network devices are active and by turning the idle ones off. The results show that the proposed algorithm reduces energy consumption of the network compared to existing solutions.

Today’s Internet knows no bounds. New applications are marketed every single day. Many of them incorporate video sequences. These must be transported over the Internet quickly (often in real time). However, the Internet has not been designed for live communications and, regrettably, this may become apparent all too quickly. Countermeasures are required in the form of new, efficient transport techniques facilitating online video services. MPEG-DASH is one of such modern techniques. But how good is this new technique really? This paper delves into the matter. The paper contains an analysis of the impact that the new technology exerts on the quality of video streaming over IP networks. It also describes a new numerical tool – QoSCalc (DASH-HTTP) which has been used to analyze MPEG-DASH under different use scenarios. The results are presented graphically and their interpretation is provided

Energy transition is a continuous process, involving all elements of the energy sector. For Distribution System Operators the ability to cope with new challenges resulting from the energy transition (i.a. digitalisation, EV, PV, energy storage, distributed energy, energy communities, microgrids, energy sharing, geopolitical changes) is one of the most significant elements of this process. To meet the challenges of the transformation, it is necessary to develop new solutions adapted to the needs of all market participants, redefine priorities, establish new rules of cooperation in order to ensure security and stability of the power system at economically justified costs. The article describes network flexibility as a tool allowing DSOs meet needs of energy sector transformation process based on flow-circle concept. The idea of it is to use continuous observation tools (captured in the observability of the network), making predictions over different time horizons, across different areas, with varying observation granularity. The result of the calculations allows to identify constraints in the system, e.g., overloads, risk of failure or shortage of power or energy, and to select countermeasures commensurate with the threat and available at the selected time horizon.

Opis:

Transition process in Poland involved the use of various tools to stimulate and increase the socioeconomic development in new conditions of a market economy. A very important direction was implementation of network solutions in the form of Special Economic Zones (SEZs). The networking nature of the solution was to create a common framework for action: economic, legal and organizational, which would apply to companies already existing in the Zones, but would also set the standard for new SEZs and their actors. The idea of creating special zones offering new attractive and unique conditions for business was new a new phenomenon in Poland. Usually operations in SEZs involve preferential conditions, which should lead to improvement of financial performance of such companies. The paper aims to determine the impact of SEZs on socio-economic development of Polish regions, using regions under endogenous development and supported by the European Union (EU) as frames of reference. The paper also aims to determine the impact of SEZs on scope of new investments, especially, FDI and unemployment.

Zaproponowana została również metoda automatyzacji zmian konfiguracyjnych uzależniona od bieżącej analizy parametrów pomiarowych.
The article presents the methods and means to manage and optimize access to a computer network laboratory resources. The applications to automate configuration saving and recovery process has been presented as well as the methods to collect the results. The authors gives the examples of protocols that can be used for these purpose. The proposed method can be also used to provide automatic configuration changes which depends on the current analysis of measurement parameters.

This paper presents a concept of IP Differentiated Services (DiffServ) architecture in conjunction with bandwidth brokerage and policy based network management, all aimed at efficient and flexible provision of the military oriented Quality of Service (M-QoS) features in the Australian Defence (strategic) wide area network and its satellite trunk interconnections with the tactical domain. Typical DiffServ functions are analysed in the paper with regard to their roles in offering M-QoS. Some preliminary simulation results of applying these mechanisms to achieve traffic policing and differentiation for (UDP) video traffic streams, are also presented. Finally, the paper proposes the use of bandwidth brokerage in each DiffiServ domain to facilitate automatic Service Level Specification (SLS) arrangements with end-user applications, and policy based network management to support the flexible implementation of bandwidth brokerage.

Opis:

The paper is a review and comparative analysis of most common techniques proposed to attach additional data or identification information to digital signals in optical fiber networks by purely optical means. Such "labels" or "headers" can be attached either to continuous bit streams, e.g., in SDH networks or to optical packets. They enable to monitor, route and identify signals in transparent optical networks, especially those with optical wavelength multiplexing, allow management and supervision of remote optical amplifiers and can be used in optical switching systems. Other applications of this relatively unknown technology include monitoring of optical path dispersion, equalization of channels in DWDM systems and detection of intrusion or jamming in highly secure networks.

This article presents the sources, nature and areas of criticism of governance. We will critically reflect on both its theoretical-normative and its pragmatic dimension. The conclusions we will arrive at will serve to highlight the main issues around which the study of the deficits of governance is focused. Finally, we will see four hypothetical scenarios for the evolution of the public governance paradigm emerge on the basis of the critical ref lection and the resulting conclusions.
W artykule przedstawiono źródła, naturę i obszary krytyki współzarządzania publicznego. Uwagi wysuwane pod adresem tego paradygmatu zarządzania publicznego zostały omówione w podziale na krytykę jego teoretyczno- normatywnego oraz pragmatycznego wymiaru. Wnioski wynikające z przeprowadzonych analiz posłużyły do wyróżnienia głównych problemów, wokół których koncentruje się dyskusja o deficytach współzarządzania publicznego. W końcowej części artykułu nakreślono cztery hipotetyczne scenariusze ewolucji paradygmatu współzarządzania publicznego, skonstruowane na podstawie przeprowadzonych rozważań oraz konkluzji z nich wynikających.

W artykule opisano nowy sposób realizacji niewielkich sieci lokalnych, który wykorzystuje adresowanie na bazie typu urządzenia, a nie adresu fizycznego węzła sieci. Taka sieć nie wymaga rejestracji nowych urządzeń, nieustannego sprawdzania obecności i aktywności urządzeń, katalogowania ich możliwości i parametrów dostępowych, pobierania i ustalania dynamicznych adresów w momencie pojawienia się węzłów dynamicznych typu smartfon itp. Zarządzanie siecią jest zdecentralizowane, nie istnieje żaden stały punkt sieci, który periodycznie gromadzi informacje o dołączonych urządzeniach i sprawdza ich stan. Nie ma potrzeby utrzymywania centralnej bazy danych urządzeń. Zestaw urządzeń pracujących w sieci jest dynamiczny, co umożliwia także korzystanie ad-hoc z urządzeń personalnych typu smartfon. Idea przedstawiona w artykule została zaimplementowana z wykorzystaniem urządzeń AGD produkowanych przez firmę Amica SA z siedzibą we Wronkach. Do implementacji wykorzystano transmisję w standardzie WiFi oraz BLE, w trybie mesh, wykorzystując popularne mikrosterowniki firm Nordic Semiconductor i Espressif.

The growth in worldwide data traffic and user subscriptions in mobile telecommunication networks makes it increasingly difficult to manage network performance in an environment already containing multiple radio access technologies. Despite the rise of 5G, LTE remains the dominant technology, and new cells are installed daily to support traffic growth and new services such as voice over LTE. Detecting faulty cells in the network is one of the main concerns of operators. Self organizing networks have been introduced to deal with this problem, and their self healing functionality has improved cell fault management. Nonetheless, faulty cell detection remains challenging, and most of the tasks involved are still done manually. This paper introduces a new method of faulty cell detection in an LTE radio access network, applying multiple criteria methods to this problem. The cells are ranked based on selected key performance indicators, using the multi attribute utility theory to construct a utility function. The analytic hierarchy process is used to define weights for the criteria.

Neutralność sieciowa oznacza jednakowe traktowanie wszystkich komunikatów przesyłanych w sieci Internet niezależnie od treści, wykorzystanej aplikacji lub usługi, urządzenia oraz adre-su nadawcy i odbiorcy. Neutralność sieciowa służy rozwojowi innowacyjnych treści i aplikacji w Internecie oraz ochronie wolności słowa i komunikowania się. Jej podstawowymi gwaran-cjami są: konkurencja i przejrzystość rynku usług dostępu do Internetu oraz łatwość zmiany dostawcy usług. Do współczesnych zagrożeń neutralności zaliczają się praktyki polegające na zarządzaniu ruchem w publicznych sieciach telekomunikacyjnych, integracja pionowa sieci z treś-ciami i aplikacjami, zero-rating, a także dążenia do zmiany modelu biznesowego działalności operatorów sieci. Środki techniczne stosowane przy zarządzaniu ruchem mogą także zagra-żać ochronie prywatności. Odpowiedzią na te zagrożenia stały się przepisy uchwalone w nie-których państwach członkowskich UE. Stosowne rozporządzenie ma zostać również przyjęte na poziomie unijnym.
Network neutrality means that all electronic communications passing through a network are treated equally, independent of their content, application, service, device, or sender and receiver addresses. Network neutrality serves to promote the development of innovative online content and applications. It also plays an important role for the freedom of expression and the freedom to communicate. The basic requirements for network neutrality include: competition on the Internet access services market and its transparency, as well as ease of changing the provider of Internet access services. Current threats to network neutrality include: network management in public communications networks, vertical integration of network and content layers, zero-rating, as well as the proposals submitted by network operators to change their business model. Technical means employed in network management pose threats to the privacy of end-users. To counter these threats, several EU Member States have enacted strict national network neutrality laws. A draft Regulation on the open Internet has also been proposed on the EU level.

W artykule podjęto próbę identyfikacji cech Customer Engagement (CE) jako innowacji w sferze marketingu oraz wskazania jej konsekwencji zarządczych. W pierwszej części ustalono istotę innowacji w sferze marketingu w kontekście istniejących typologii innowacji. W części drugiej określono istotę CE, zidentyfikowano zakres przedmiotowy i podmiotowy tej kategorii oraz wynikający z tego charakter innowacji CE. W ostatniej części wskazano na związki CE z usieciowieniem działalności przedsiębiorstwa, mającym konsekwencje dla zarządzania CE.
There is an attempt in this article to identify Customer Engagement features as innovation in marketing and indicate its managerial implications. In the first part of the paper the essence of innovations in marketing was established in the context of existing innovation typologies. In the second part, the essence of CE and its object and subject scope was explored and the nature of CE as innovation was identified. In the last section of the article the relationships between CE and networking of companies performance were indicated as they have the consequences in CE management.

Kluczowym pytaniem artykułu jest, jak kompetencje agentów zmiany i relacje pomiędzy pracownikami zaangażowanymi w zmianę mogą wpływać na rezultaty wprowadzania zmiany. Przeprowadzone badanie empiryczne ukazuje korelację pomiędzy efektywnością wprowadzania zmiany i dwóch aspektów: (a) jakości grup agentów zmiany odpowiedzialnych za proces zmiany i (b) relacji dobrej atmosfery w działach, w których wprowadzanie zmiany miało miejsce. Po pierwsze, została krótko przedstawiona analiza sieci organizacyjnej (ONA) razem z definicjami i wskaźnikami wykorzystanymi później w artykule. W drugiej części zaprezentowano założenia badania empirycznego przeprowadzonego w jednej z firm usługowo-produkcyjnych. Finalnie w ramach rezultatów i konkluzji badanie odkryło, jak odpowiednia eksploatacja kapitału społecznego w grupach agentów zmiany i odpowiednia struktura relacji mogą pomóc w udanym wdrożeniu zmiany.
The article aims to examine the empirical change implementation process from the resource-based point of view and from the dynamic-based point of view, exploiting the organisational network analysis as the main method. The key question of the article is how competencies of change agents and relations among employees involved in change can affect the result of change implementation. The conducted empirical research is to depict correlations between effectiveness of change implementation and two aspects: (a) quality of change agents’ groups responsible for change process and (b) relations of good atmosphere in departments in which change implementation took place. Firstly, the organisational network analysis (ONA) is briefly introduced together with the main definitions and indexes used further in the article. In second part, the presumptions of empirical research conducted in one of service and production companies are presented. Finally, in the frame of results and conclusions the research unveils how proper exploitation of social capital in change agent groups and proper structure of relations can help with successful change introduction.

The paper assesses the development level of water and sewerage infrastructure in the Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship in the period of 1999-2014. The analysis included the infrastructure in 144 communes. The outcome has ascertained large irregularity in water and sewerage network coverage saturation in particular years, especially in southern and eastern parts of the voivodeship. The growth dynamics of the sewerage network surpasses the water network growth in the analyzed period but still does not reach the development degree of the water system. The Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodeship has the second densest water network in Poland. However, taking into account sewerage network density, it is ninth. Disproportion in both networks development degree is mitigated by building household sewage treatment plants, especially in the communes with lower population density, in which building sewerage network is too expensive. In 2014 two communes had no sewerage network at all and two others had that network very sparse (over 100 km of water network per 1 km of sewerage network). The most intense water and sewerage infrastructure development was recorded in 2007 and 2014, mainly in rural and urban-rural areas. It is related to increased expenditure on water and sewerage infrastructure within the Regional Operational Programme in the years 2004-2006 and 2007-2013.

This paper presents a predicted target architecture of an integrated manufacturing and management system, based on a metropolitan-type intranet and an industrial process control and monitoring network. Such systems are urgently required by prospective users, especially large-scale manufacturing enterprises. Nevertheless, neither big manufacturers of computer integrated manufacturing systems nor big manufacturers of computer integrated systems are willing to develop combined computer integrated manufacturing and management systems. To evaluate performance, a method developed for packet switching networks with end-to-end acknowledgement was applied. The paper describes the investigations carried out for the case study. Some consideration is given to the performance evaluation accuracy, based on the validation work results obtained from analytical work, simulation and measurements on the Polish pilot wide area network.

To secure cargoes, containerships operate double or triple calling of ports in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region in China. Such shipping operations generate high CO2 emissions. This paper suggest a green shipping network (GSN) as a useful tool to transship containers from feeder ports to hub ports to lower the overall CO2 emissions in the region. From the perspective of scale operations from using the hub-and-spoke approach and the deployment of mega ships, developing a GSN within the PRD region can be beneficial, both economically and environmentally, to port users in the container transport chain.

Zmiany obserwowane współcześnie pozwalają na konstatacje nie tylko w zakresie rozwoju efektów materialnych procesów gospodarczych, lecz także na polu zarządzania tymi procesami. Interesującą egzemplifikacją tych ostatnich zmian umożliwia spojrzenie na rozwój koncepcji Lean management i Agile management. Jako wspólną płaszczyznę przyjęto aspekt usieciowienia przedsiębiorstw. Przeprowadzone rozważania pozwalają przypuszczać, że rozwój organizacji stosujących koncepcję Agile jest powiązany ze wzrostem znaczenia relacji sieciowych, co z kolei traktować należy jako reakcję na wzrost niepewności w podejmowaniu decyzji. Jednocześnie usieciowienie nie może być rozpatrywane w kategoriach uniwersalnych. Przytoczono dane wskazujące, że konsolidacja aktywów w ramach korporacyjnych nadal odgrywa istotną rolę w procesie budowy przewagi strategicznej.
Changes observed today let statements not only in the range of economic processes material effects, but also on the field of those processes management. The look at Lean management and Agile management concepts improvement allows an interesting exemplification of mentioned changes. As the common basis, the network aspect has been assumed. The presented considerations lead to assumption, the development of organizations using the Agile management concept is connected with building – up network relations. Further, these relations are joined with the decision uncertainty growth. At the other side, network creating processes should not be treated as a universal category. There are data in this article, that the assets consolidation within corporation is still important to strategic advantage creation.

In the paper, the possibility of ConceptNet application for knowledge management of texts in the Polish and English language is discussed. ConceptNet is a freely-available semantic network, designed to help computers understand the meanings of words that people use, it contains concepts from many languages. The semantics of ConceptNet is presented in the context of the semantics of the EuroVoc which is based on the SKOS standard. Indexing tool, created by authors, based on ConceptNet is briefly described. Tests of texts indexing with the use of papers in Polish and English language were performed. Results are analyzed and evaluated. At the end, some conclusions about the quality of results are formulated.

Roads are economic arteries of any country, without which there is no possibility of any social and economic activities. The more expansion and quality of roads networks increase, the more transportation of travellers through ground channels will be and as a result, far and near points will enjoy more facilities and in the end, the country will move towards development. Roads are comprised of various sections and are divided into various formats. However, the most definite and tangible section of any road is its pavement. Pavements are thought of national investment of any country where, annually a large part of construction budget coming from relevant organizations is spent on repair, maintenance, and perseverance of them. Securing sufficient budget for this issue is among subjects that have always obsessed the minds of high ranking officials. In the past, focus was always directed at preserving the pavements and pavement management was an unknown task. The determining factor in choosing the most appropriate way of repair and maintenance was the engineers' analysis and little attention was focused on life cycle incurred costs or prioritization based on the necessity at the network level. In modern economy, as with the life of pavements, there is a need for a systematic method for determining necessities with regards to repairing and marinating. Today, pavement networks need management and maintenance cannot suffice alone. Attempts have been made in this research to examine the asphalt pavement management as affected by vertical loading at the top of the paved surface under investigation where through the elasticity theory and simplifying theory by way of Burmister for layered model, the relevant mathematical theory was expanded and foundations of a computer program was accordingly formed. Progress recently made in the area of microcomputers and technology of pavement management have brought about the tools needed for managing the pavements economically, thereby creating a systematic and coherent pavement management system for choosing necessities related with delineation, maintenance, specification of priorities and optimal time for repair through creating pavement situation in the future.

The main idea of all Active Queue Management algorithms, is to notify the TCP sender about incoming congestion by dropping packets, to prevent from the buffer overflow, and its negative consequences. However, most AQM algorithms proposed so far, neglect the impact of the high speed and long delay links. As a result, the algorithms' efficiency, in terms of throughput and/or queue stability, is usually significantly decreased. The contribution of this paper is twofold. First of all, the performance of the well known AQM algorithms in high speed and long delay scenarios is evaluated and compared. Secondly, a new AQM algorithm is proposed, to improve the throughput in the large delay scenarios and to exclude the usage of random number generator.
W obecnym Internecie odrzucanie bądź znakowanie pakietów ma na celu powiadomienie nadawcy o przeciążeniu. Ten fakt jest wykorzystywany przez źródła TCP w celu ograniczenia prędkości nadawania. Rozwiązaniem problemu pełnej kolejki jest prewencyjne odrzucanie pakietów, aby nie dopuścić do zapełnienia bufora i powstania przeciążenia. Prawdopodobieństwo prewencyjnego odrzucenia pakietu rośnie wraz ze wzrostem poziomu przeciążenia. Idea ta jest wykorzystywana w aktywnych algorytmach zarządzania kolejką. Prewencyjne odrzucanie pakietów wprowadza mechanizm sprzężenia zwrotnego informując nadawców o zbliżającym się przeciążeniu. Informacja jest wykorzystywana przez nadawców w celu zwolnienia szybkości nadawania. Losowe odrzucanie wybranych pakietów pozwala uniknąć sytuacji, w której wszystkie źródła zwalniają jednocześnie, co eliminuje problem globalnej synchronizacji. Większość obecnych algorytmów AQM pomija wpływ cech charakterystycznych dla łączy szkieletowych, tj. dużej przepustowości i dużych opóźnień propagacji. W rezultacie sprawność algorytmów AQM rozumiana jako przepustowość łącz i stabilność kolejki jest znacznie mniejsza niż w sieciach dostępowych. W pracy zaprezentowano badania wydajności popularnych algorytmów AQM w sieciach szkieletowych o dużych przepustowościach i dużych opóźnieniach propagacji. Wdalszej części przedstawiono propozycje algorytmu, który ma na celu poprawić przepustowość transmisji na tych łączach i który pozwala wykluczyć użycie generatora liczb losowych. Zaproponowana metoda - algorytm LINDROP - wykorzystuje niemalejącą funkcję liniową, w zależności od średniej długości kolejki, do oszacowania współczynnika odrzucania nadchodzących pakietów. Algorytm poprawia przepustowość w łączu szkieletowym.

Opis:

Software-Defined Networking (SDN) is seen as the most promising networking technology today. The spread of a new technology depends on the acceptance of the engineers implementing the networks. Typically, when engineers start the conceptualization of new network devices that work with a new paradigm, and that should provide expected business values, they must identify and utilize technical enablers for the defined business use cases. This paper tries to summarize essential SDN applications and defines the technical enablers for advanced and efficient SDN networking. To this end, we identify the core technical mechanisms, expecting to provide a useful analysis for the design of new SDN networks.

Opis:

The aim of the paper is a general attempt to structure concepts of risk management in enterprises deriving economic benefits in form of a network rent. The aim will be achieved through analysis of the literature on the subject and observation of directions of change in modern economy. Based on the above, the selected concepts of risk management in network enterprises were defined against the response of enterprises to risk: increase of reactivity, calculation and acceptance.
Celem artykułu jest próba ogólnego uporządkowania koncepcji zarządzania ryzykiem w przedsiębiorstwach pozyskujących korzyści ekonomiczne w formie renty sieciowej. Realizacja tego zadania opiera się na analizie literatury przedmiotu i obserwacji kierunków przeobrażeń współczesnej gospodarki. Na tej podstawie wybrane koncepcje zarządzania ryzykiem w przedsiębiorstwach usieciowionych zdefiniowano względem reakcji przedsiębiorstw na ryzyko: zwiększanie reaktywności, kalkulacji i akceptacji.

Obecnie podmioty sieciowe (np. korporacje, sieci sklepów handlowych, szpitali publicznych itd.) poszukują nowych rozwiązań oraz koncepcji systemowych umożliwiających podniesienie efektywność działania na współczesnym rynku. Podejście procesowe w zarządzaniu siecią podmiotów stawia procesy biznesowe oraz klienta (zewnętrznego i wewnętrznego) w centrum zainteresowania kadry zarządzającej. Dążenie do zwiększania satysfakcji interesariuszy, a w szczególności ich oczekiwań i wymagań, wymusza zmianę sposobu postrzegania, zarządzania, doskonalenia sieci podmiotów ze statycznego na dynamiczny. Sprzyja to wzrostowi elastyczności oraz podatności na zmiany podmiotów funkcjonujących w ramach sieci. Dlatego podczas doskonalenia architektury procesów tworzy się odpowiednie warunki do wprowadzania procesowych form organizacyjnych (tzw. tworzenia organizacji procesowej).
Currently, network entities (eg. corporations, retail chain stores, public hospitals, etc.) are looking for new solutions and concepts enabling the system to increase operational efficiency in today's market. Process approach in managing a network of business entities puts business and customer processes (external and internal) at the center of management interest. Striving to increase the satisfaction of stakeholders, and in particular their expectations and requirements, forces a change in the way people perceive, manage, and improve their networks from static to dynamic. This is conducive to an increase in flexibility and susceptibility to changes in operators operating within the network. Therefore, while developing the process architecture, appropriate conditions are created for introducing organizational process processes (so called process organization).

Opis:

Badania sieci przedsiębiorstw można uznać za współczesny imperatyw zarządzania wynikający z istotnych uwarunkowań otoczenia i rozwoju nowych modeli biznesu. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie głównych problemów dotyczących badań sieci w zarządzaniu strategicznym w kontekście zastosowania analizy sieci społecznych (SNA – Social Network Analysis). Za najważniejsze uznano wybór podstawy teoretycznej wyjaśniającej procesy i mechanizmy sieciowe, określenie typu badanej sieci i rodzaju powiązań oraz wyznaczenie poziomu analizy sieci. Ze względu na specyfikę zarządzania strategicznego rozważania ograniczono do przykładu sieci przedsiębiorstw lub ich głównych decydentów, takich jak członkowie zarządów lub rad nadzorczych. W przeprowadzonej analizie koncentrowano się zarówno na możliwościach analizy sieci społecznej, jak też na jej rzeczywistych ograniczeniach determinujących zakres potencjalnych badań.
Research on corporate networks can be seen as a modern management imperative resulting from significant determinants of the environment and the development of new business models. The aim of this article is to present the main issues of network research in strategic management in the context of use of social network analysis (SNA). The choice of a theoretical basis for explaining the processes and mechanisms of the network, specification of the type of tested network and the type of relations, as well as determination of the level of network analysis are recognised as the most important problems. In view of the specificity of strategic management, considerations are limited to the examples of a network of companies or a network of main decision-makers, such as members of management or supervisory boards. The analysis focuses on both the opportunities of social network analysis as well as its actual limitations that determine the range of potential research.

Celem artykułu jest charakterystyka kategorii powiązań sieciowych przedsiębiorstw w kontekście funkcjonowania rynków zaawansowanych technologii. Branże związane z tego rodzaju technologiami należą współcześnie do najbardziej dynamicznie rozwijających się w gospodarce światowej. Dynamika zmian i efekty prac badawczych i rozwojowych w przedsiębiorstwach funkcjonujących na rynkach zaawansowanych technologii wpływają na polepszanie wyników działalności gospodarczej w pozostałych branżach gospodarki. Wśród cech przedsiębiorstw zaawansowanych technologii wymienia się wykorzystanie kompleksowej technologii produkcji, intensywne działania w obszarze badań i rozwoju, wysoki poziom innowacyjności, a także szybką dyfuzję innowacji technologicznych. Ponadto wymienić trzeba wysokie kwalifikacje pracowników, konieczność ponoszenia dużych nakładów finansowych oraz związany z tym wysoki poziom ryzyka inwestycyjnego. Warunki funkcjonowania przedsiębiorstw nowoczesnych technologii charakteryzują się dużą intensywnością współpracy naukowo-technologicznej, zarówno w obrębie poszczególnych krajów, jak i w wymiarze międzynarodowym. W związku z powyższym rośnie znaczenie kooperacji i powiązań sieciowych, które z jednej strony są szansą rozwojową na rynkach szybko zmieniających się zaawansowanych technologii, ale z drugiej mogą być źródłem zagrożeń i ryzyka dla bezproblemowego funkcjonowania przedsiębiorstwa.
Nowadays, high-tech technologies are one of the most dynamically developing types of business in the worldwide economy. The dynamics of occurring changes, as well as effects of research and development undertakings taking place in high-tech business ventures exert a positive influence upon performance taking place in other branches of economy. Enterprises utilizing sophisticated technologies are characterized by complex production technologies, massive investments in research and development, high level of innovativeness, rapid diffusion of technological novelties, high qualifications of employed workers, as well as the necessity to incur significant expenditures with concomitant increase in the investment risk. The functioning of businesses utilizing new technologies are characterized by a considerable intensity of science and technological cooperation taking place within national economies and global markets. Hence, one may observe an increase in the significance of cooperation and networking, which is, on the one hand, an opportunity and competitive advantage on high-tech markets and, on the other hand, a source of threats and risks to the functioning of a given enterprise.

Opis:

The article, based on empirical research in one of the production and service companies acting in energy industry, develops the introductory implications on how social capital of change leaders is linked to the effectiveness of change implementation. Using organisational network analysis the author examines influence of social capital of change leaders in the area of real work flow during change implementation and open communication flow on change effectiveness. One finds that ties among change leaders in those two dimensions have distinct change effectiveness effects. In broaden aspect, findings have major implications on change management research and imply further research in this matter to be conducted by the author.

Risk-taking is a pivotal feature of entrepreneurship and business development. Poor management of business risk often leads to the loss of competitiveness with the consequence of business failure, and in contrast, it improves business sustainability when risks are managed effectively. The aimof thisresearch is to identify leading concepts and trends in research on risk-taking in organizationalmanagement researchby network analysis of keywords co-occurrence. Mapping knowledge domain was used as a useful method in bibliometrics. We analyzed 2912 records from Scopus database to risk-taking in organizational management research with the help of VOSviewer software tool. In particular, keywords co-occurrence analysis to visually explore knowledge bases, topic distribution, research fronts and research trends in the field of risk-taking research in a management context were adopted.

Opis:

The random early detection (RED) algorithm was developed in 1993. Nearly three decades later, several improved variants have been proposed by scientists. The use of a (pure) linear function for computing packet drop probability has turned out to be a disadvantage, leading to the problem of large delays. Such a problem may be addressed by using linear and non-linear (i.e. as exponential) packet drop probability functions. This paper proposes a revised RED active queue management algorithm named RED-linear exponential (RED-LE). This variant involves an interplay of linear and exponential drop functions, in order to improve the performance of the original RED algorithm. More importantly, at low and moderate network traffic loads, the RED-LE algorithm employs the linear drop action. However, for high traffic loads, RED-LE employs the exponential function for computing the packet drop probability rate. Experimental results have shown that RED-LE effectively controls congestion and offers an improved network performance under different traffic loads.

Opis:

A method has been proposed to select one of several project implementation variants in the context of sustainable project management. The method should be applied in the phase of the project definition. The projects are viewed across the entire lifecycle of the project and its product. In all the phases, the sustainability aspects should be addressed in a balanced way. The sustainability context implies that different stakeholders will have conflicting opinions on the weights of different variables. The proposed approach is based on network Data Envelopment Analysis that does not require the weights of individual variables as input. Consequently, the proposed method is the first approach allowing users to select a project implementation variant in the context of sustainability and the entire project and product lifecycle, without imposing the weights of individual variables. The proposal is designed for organisations using project sustainable management.

Background. Emergency management requires flexibility and adaptation to dynamic and changing circumstances. The urgent requirements and high standards of responsiveness in terms of emergency management depend on horizontal and vertical communication since this is of the main factors associated with the appropriate coordination of many essentially independent organisations. Research aims. The paper attempts to identify the determinants of effective communication, particularly in regard to close coordination, as well as the role played by these processes in the management of local emergency networks. Method. This work consists of a theory-based empirical study. It is qualitative in nature and the research method is based on both desk research and field research. The research was conducted as part of a research project entitled "Coordination, communication and trust as factors driving effective inter-organisational collaboration in the public safety management system " (DEC-2012/07/D/HS4/00537) financed by the National Science Centre. Key findings. As a result, the new role of communication as a factor associated with the appropriate coordination in local emergency networks was identified.

Based on the payments and settlement system, the influence of the topology of capital flow networks on the extra short-term liquidity demand is investigated. Through modelling the circulating mechanism of liquidity in a network, its different influencing factors are analysed. The factors relating to the strength of nodes and leakage of liquidity that influences the liquidity demands of real-time settlements are studied from the perspective of both the system and members, using different simulation methods. The results show that strength will lead the member’s liquidity demand to increase but the strength distribution will lead the system’s liquidity demand to decrease, in cases with no leakage effect or unchanged leakage effect. The liquidity demand of the entire system is positive compared to the amount of leakage effect but uncorrelated to the distribution of the leakage effect among members, if the effect of strength distribution is unchanged. If the effects of strength, strength distribution and leakage are changed together, the latter is the dominant factor that influences the liquidity demand of both system and members. The above findings are useful for the management and supervision of short-term liquidity demand in complex financial systems, and for liquidity risk management and liquidity rescue policymaking.

This article presents an integrated approach towards building a simulation model of the transportation network. The proposed method is based on the recommendations of the Blue Book for Sector of Public Transport in cities, agglomerations and regions issued by Jaspers (Joint Assistance to Support Projects in European Regions). It comprises six steps with such elements as econometric modelling, artificial neural networks and mathematical model. It is dedicated to developing simulation models for the purpose of picturing present situation and dependencies dominating in the transportation network, easily reflecting effects of potential modifications and providing forecasts for the future. The described hybrid method was verified in practice by building the simulation model which is presented in the next article in this series entitled: An Integrated Approach towards Building a Simulation Model Supporting the Management of the Passenger Transportation System. Part 2 – Case Study.

The purpose of this study is to indicate the methods of identifying sources of value in a sample of four organizations which are global engineering service providers operating in the form of an interorganizational network. The empirical research used the network paradigm and the concept of organization description using network rents. The research was be based on an especially developed questionnaire survey using a structured survey questionnaire proposed by Trzaska. The study used a critical analysis of the relevant literature, desk research, and the author's own analytical tools for measuring the value generated in interorganizational networks. The outcome of the study is the identification of the value creation methods applied by global engineering service providers and the indication of the possibility to measure them. The originality this research results from the new value creation methods applied by global engineering service providers.
Celem badania jest wskazanie metod identyfikacji źródeł wartości w organizacjach typu „globalny dostawca usług inżynierskich” działających w formie sieci międzyorganizacyjnej. W badaniach wykorzystano paradygmat sieciowy zarządzania strategicznego i koncepcję analizy organizacji stosującej renty sieciowe. Do badania wykorzystano specjalnie opracowany ustrukturyzowany kwestionariusz ankietowy zaproponowany przez R. Trzaskę. Ponadto użyto metody krytycznej analizy literatury przedmiotu, metody badania typu desk research oraz autorskiego narzędzia analitycznego do pomiaru wartości generowanej w sieciach międzyorganizacyjnych. Efektem badania jest identyfikacja metod kreowania wartości stosowanych przez globalnych dostawców usług inżynierskich i wskazanie możliwości ich pomiaru. Oryginalność badań wynika ze wskazania nowych metod kreowania wartości stosowanych przez globalnych dostawców usług inżynierskich.

Opis:

The data aggregation process of wireless sensor networks faces serious security problems. In order to defend the internal attacks launched by captured nodes and ensure the reliability of data aggregation, a secure data aggregation mechanism based on constrained supervision is proposed for wireless sensor network, which uses the advanced LEACH clustering method to select cluster heads. Then the cluster heads supervise the behaviors of cluster members and evaluate the trust values of nodes according to the communication behavior, data quality and residual energy. Then the node with the highest trust value is selected as the supervisor node to audit the cluster head and reject nodes with low trust values. Results show that the proposed mechanism can effectively identify the unreliable nodes, guarantee the system security and prolong the network life time.

Opis:

W artykule przedstawiono metody wyznaczania macierzy podróży, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem dynamicznego ujęcia problemu. Ze względu na potencjalne wykorzystanie metod wyznaczania macierzy podróży na podstawie wielkości natężeń na odcinkach sieci transportowej, w dynamicznym sterowaniu i zarządzaniu ruchem w sposób schematyczny podjęto próbę uogólnienia procesu obliczeniowego. Dla usprawnienia obliczeń opracowano oryginalne narzędzie informatyczne.
The methods of OD matrix estimation taking dynamic depiction of problem into consideration have been presented in the article. For the sake of potential application of OD matrices using traffic counts in dynamic traffic management it has been made an attempt to generalize the estimation in schematic way. To make the calculation more efficient the software application has been designed.

Opis:

This article addresses the issue of the Pick By Line Process used by the logistics company, with the impeachment application, that is the improvement implementation in the PBL distribution channel, by developing the system solution to ensure a uniform distribution of the assortment line in the absence of 100% of assortment by the supplier, in order to improve the product availability for the customers in the aforementioned situation. In the logistics company, the modern solutions were used to monitor the functionality of limiting the stock status of goods, as well as of increasing the warehouse capacity in the number of the assortment lines. The method of quantitative observation was used to develop the program concept at the aforementioned workstation based on available literature.
