Opis:
In this paper, cryptocurrencies are analysed as investment instruments. The study aims to verify whether they can be classified as an asset class and what kind of benefits they may bring to the investor’s portfolio. We used 6 indices as proxies for the major asset classes, including the cryptocurrency index CRIX, for all cryptographic assets. Cryptocurrencies relatively fully satisfied 7 asset class requirements, namely stable aggregation, investability, internal homogeneity, external heterogeneity, expected utility, selection skill and cost-effective access. It was found that crypto assets have diversification properties. Portfolio optimisation with the Modern Portfolio Theory showed an increase in the Sharpe ratio of tangency portfolios with the inclusion of CRIX. However, the Post-Modern Portfolio Theory identified significant deterioration of the downside risk and the Sortino ratio.

Opis:
This paper examines the policy that has been suggested to resolve involuntary unemployment by having the government employ any persons who register as unemployed. This policy is compared to the full employment proposal of Michał Kalecki. Kalecki’s proposals also contained a strategy for financing full employment. Like the Employer of Last Resort proposal, Kalecki’s strategy allows employment policies to be examined from financial control, rather than the usual approaches of examining the impact of employment policy on labour productivity, or inflation, although both come into the analysis. The paper, therefore, outlines the proposal for an employer of last resort, and the proposed financing of that policy. A second part looks at Kalecki’s proposals for full employment and its financing. A third part then considers the impact of the employer of last resort policy on financial stability.

The paper is devoted to the theoretical foundation of the new humanities that have been recently developing in Poland. They result mainly from the need  to surpass the theoretical and methodological horizon that was outlined by modern theory, especially by structuralism. The author argues that the more the new humanities attempt to revoke the modern theory, the more they are faithful to its premises. By analyzing the latest works of Ryszard Nycz, one of the main founders of the theoretical bases of the new humanities in Poland, the author shows i.a. how the main concepts of the main theory (in this case – mainly the concept of sounding out) work at its behalf.

Opis:
The mean-variance approach to portfolio investment exploits the fact that the diversification of investments by combination of different assets in one portfolio allows for reducing the financial risks significantly. The mean-variance model is formulated as a bi-objective optimization problem with linear (expected return) and quadratic (variance) objective functions. Given a set of available assets, the investor searches for a portfolio yielding the most preferred combination of these objectives. Naturally, the search is limited to the set of non-dominated combinations, referred to as the Pareto front. Due to the globalization of financial markets, investors nowadays have access to large numbers of assets. We examine the possibility of reducing the problem size by identifying those assets, whose removal does not affect the resulting Pareto front, thereby not deteriorating the quality of the solution from the investor’s perspective. We found a sufficient condition for asset redundancy, which can be verified before solving the problem. This condition is based on the possibility of reallocating the share of one asset in a portfolio to another asset without deteriorating the objective function values. We also proposed a parametric relaxation of this condition, making it possible to removemore assets for a price of a negligible deterioration of the Pareto front. Computational experiments conducted on five real-world problems have demonstrated that the problem size can be reduced significantly using the proposed approach.

This paper presents the idea of the Job Guarantee (JG), which is a logical extension of the paradigm of a tax-driven fiat currency. The JG involves the government offering a public purpose-oriented job with a fixed hourly wage and job benefits to anyone willing to work. The JG as a bottom-up approach is locally administered but federally funded. As the analytical lens of MMT reveals, a monetarily sovereign government is always able to provide the spending required. Macroeconomically, the JG works as an automatic countercyclical stabilizer and an excellent tool for aggregated demand management, ensuring the economy is continuously operating at full capacity. On top, the JG uses an employed buffer stock approach as a superior means to maintain price stability. Next to its favourable macroeconomic impacts, the JG offers many social benefits, particularly related to continuous employment, working conditions in the private sector, power relations in the labour market and democracy. While the JG and Universal Basic Income (UBI) are often discussed as comparable, competing policy proposals, the JG addresses more macroeconomic and social issues than the UBI does. This paper concludes that the JG qualifies for being the single most effective policy in order to drive the economy towards continuous full employment and price stability while realizing additional social benefits.

Due to the huge role of the pricing process in economic theory has developed different concepts of pricing, which have fundamental differences. All of the concept of pricing seeks to solve the question about the fundamental principle prices, the issue that is included in the price, what determines its value. The article describes the basic theory of pricing and analyzed leading views on the fundamental principle prices. The comparison of different theories of pricing allows you to obtain the most complete picture of their evolutionary development and to understand what theory takes a leading role in modern economic theory.

This paper addresses an approach for solving multicriteria portfolio investment problem. The original Markowitz mean-variance model is formulated as a problem of bi-objective optimization with linear and quadratic objective functions. In the current work, this model is extended by introducing a new objective, reflecting asset properties that are useful for the portfolio allocation process. A method based on parameterized achievement scalarizing function is applied to produce Pareto optimal portfolios. A mathematical programming formulation that allows for solving the problem with conventional optimization methods is presented. In addition, a method of reflecting the decision maker’s preferences by means of changing the weights in the achievement scalarizing functions is introduced. A decision making process is simulated for the three-objective portfolio optimization problem.

Opis:
Reformy liturgiczne po Soborze Trydenckim doprowadziły do zasadniczych zmian w funkcjonowaniu liturgicznym i w kształtowaniu różnych partii świątyni. W różnych środowiskach terminem kaplica określano więc bądź prezbiterium, bądź aneksy ściśle powiązane z korpusem, bądź też autonomiczne budowle służące kultowi relikwii i cudownych obrazów oraz grzebaniu dostojnych zmarłych.
In Instructiones fabricae et supellectilis ecclesiasticae published in Milan in 1577, in line with the tradition formed in the Middle Ages, the term capella was used to describe a part of the church interior, definitely designated as the place for altar. There, the term capella maior was referred to the church’s presbytery, and capelle minores – to the strings of identical chapels, adjacent to the sides of the nave, and sometimes also to the transept. Capella maior was already losing its spatial separateness as a result of liturgical reforms introduced after the Council of Trent. In Italy and in most European countries, it was then that great importance was attached to gathering the people at one solemn Holy Mass, at the same time striving to make its celebration as visible as possible to the gathered worshipers. Therefore, the choir partitions were removed, and the presbyteries were cleaned from elements emphasizing their spatial distinctiveness on the one hand (reliquaries, miraculous paintings, impressive tombstones), and on the other, distracting the attention of the worshipers from the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice. Such activities – strongly recommended in Instructiones – meant that the presbytery was very strongly (both spatially and ideologically) integrated with the body of the church, as a result of which in most languages it ceased to be called a chapel. On the other hand, in the documents of church factories such a term was applied to annexes connected very loosely with the space and body of the temple, to which the saints and tombstones from the presbytery were “transferred”. The construction of two such structures by the popes at the larger basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome became the confirmation of this practice by the highest authority in the Church. However, Instructiones and other Counter-Reformation texts on church shaping did not record the rapid spread of an “autonomous” chapel in sacral architecture. The Milanese work describes only the way of shaping the strings of capellae minores, so a solution present in the Italian architecturefrom the late Middle Ages. The reason for this choice was probably the fact that the chapels adjacent to the nave fulfilled a specific tradition in the liturgy in the church, and the role of autonomous chapels in this field remained insignificant. Due to the well-established local tradition in the South Netherlands, there was no integration of the spaces of presbyteries and churches in this area. In this area, Catholicism was restored after the period of violent Reformation, which meant that in the churches, first of all, elements destroyed by iconoclasts were reconstructed. Therefore, in the cathedrals and collegiate churches, with the consent of the Holy See, the partitions separating them from the corpus were reconstructed. Behind these partitions, imposing tombstones of bishops and canons were built, because only these spaces were supervised by higher clergy, while the corps were under the administration of municipalities. In Flemish, the presbytery was thus still described with the term (grote) kapel, while the side chapels, usually built between the buttresses of great Gothic churches, were called chapels (kapelletjes). Thus, in the modern era, the term “chapel” was associated with various spatial and functional solutions, both in construction practice and in texts on sacral architecture. Therefore, one should limit himself to noticing the complex presence of chapels in the history of modern architecture, and not try to formulate a precise and unambiguous definition of this type of building.

James II inherited the throne from his elder brother Charles only because there was not any male heir. Even the Parliament wanted to exclude him from succession, that was the exclusion crisis of 1679-1681. The Tory propaganda published Sir Robert Filmer’s Patriarcha to argue for the primogeniture principle, i.e. for the James’s title to the throne. That work introduced patriarchalism in which overlap the concepts of family and society and the authority of a father and the monarch. Therefore the monarch as the father of the nation ruled over the society that was considered to be a great family. He demanded unconditional obedience from the society just as the father demands it from the members of his family. Since Sir Robert Filmer’s name was connected to James’s right to the throne and to the conservative royalist Tory propaganda, my incentive was to examine whether James himself applied patriarchalism and the Filmer’s concepts in his political writings. This is the law (norms) in books if we apply the terms of the law in effect to the past. However, the aim of this article is to compare these norms with the practice found in the James’s declarations, proclamations, and deeds. The result of this comparison would be the law in action. Thus, the aim of this comparison is to reveal patriarchalism in James’s writings and after that to examine whether any characteristics of it can be found in his deeds and decrees of his administration. I mean especially three deeds: his coronation, the cure of the King’s evil (scrofula), and the practice of giving mercy to victims. Among the decrees I mean particularly the decrees issued during putting out the revolts against his reign. In the first two cases he was successful, however, he lost the throne to William of Orange and was expelled from it.

This article concerns Russian modern drama, exactly the work of one of its most world famous representatives – Ivan Vyrypaev, 37-year-old actor, theatre and film director and playwright. The drama July by Ivan Vyrypaev is seen in relation to the ritual practices, which are a part of the myth of death and rebirth. Based on contemporary studies of ritual and mythological theory in literature the author identifies in the text of drama a kind of special ‘mifomir’– a structure with its sacred space and time, with the liminal stage of existence of a priest, who is at the same time a victim of a ritual sacrifice in the name of the renewal of life and restoring the cosmos out of chaos. This way of reading contemporary drama reveals her attempt to indicate the relations of the modern man with the eternal values and reflects an attempt to determine the identity and the limits of human being.

The medical consultation - the basis for the physician-patient relationship - is often nothing more than a brief medical history interview and receives no sufficient attention: Thus, the focus today is on providing brief information and obtaining the patient’s consent. In this paper we search for an independent approach to assessing the significance of the consultation for physicians. Today, philosophy recognizes two major approaches: modern anthropology as the science of human beings and media theory. If a physician does not “embed” the information, i.e. if he does not give it a meaning through transferring it onto the patient’s specific situation, the physician consequently treats the person like a veterinarian would, that is only focusing on the biological organism and irrespective of his characteristic view of the world. Thus, and provided that it is a therapeutical and conciliatory conversation, the consultation must primarily be “tailored to the addressee”. The information, the theoretical, purely topical content must be integrated into the patient’s actual life situation. This is of fundamental importance for patients safety.

Numerous controversies, such as the application of queer theory versus gay and lesbian studies approach, have been discussed taking into consideration their methodological usefulness with regard to the historical Old Polish texts. Preference has been given to traditional gay and lesbian studies, not queer criticism, as the later may lead to numerous misunderstandings and misinterpretations owing to the indefinite, secondary, doubtful and oppressive character of most available original texts in question, which has been fully exemplified.

The article is dealing with the place taken by language reflection in modern literary theory. Poststructural breakthrough in the Humanities had become a period of opening up to new inspiration, and most of all to “language learning”. Much more important than the direct impact of the deconstruction was a change of consciousness: hereby the structuralist paradigm as the dominant way of talking about literature became exhausted. One academic discourse was replaced by the multitude of languages , and the multiplicity of rhetoric. The certainty of interpretation was replaced by interpretative doubts. That distrust embraced everything: not only the methodology, but the literature itself. A literary work ceased to be an objective structure, and its meaning a function of order. In this situation of discipline language, as art material, becomes the object of special attention of authors and researchers. The significance of language experiments is present in modern Polish prose, especially in prose by Wiesław Myśliwski.
