    Opis:
    The paper, presenting research within the scope of cognitive linguistics, concerns the problem of conceptualization of meanings by language users and terminological difficulties with the selection of terms for describing language aspects of human cognition. The aim is to present the referential fields of terms, such as schemas/frames, idealized cognitive models, mental spaces, as well as the cognitive mechanisms which hinder clear distinctions between them. The main goal of the author is an attempt to prove the thesis that the psychology reality principle to the largest extent satisfies the description of mental representation and processing of meanings in the categories of cognitive domains, mental spaces and conceptualizations.

    Metaphorization in poems is a specific phenomenon. Poetry, having different function from that of everyday language, uses metaphorization through encoding and decoding a message. Unusual metaphors make communication between an author and a reader more difficult, but also more attractive. By dint of metaphor an idea concentrates greatly and a reception of a message, apart from the message itself, provides aesthetical values. Relations between time and space in a poem, where presented world is minimized, are always metaphorized. In order to define them, cognitive poetry uses the term of mental spaces. The author of this work is going to characterize these spaces in poems of two poets – in the Inna Lisnianskaya’s Иерусалимская тетрадь and Wisława Szymborska’s Tutaj.

    Artykuł podejmuje problem nieprzekładalności jako wypadkowej działania łączących się ze sobą w rozmaitych proporcjach trzech podstawowych czynników budujących przekaz przekładanego komunikatu: myśli zrodzonej w umyśle, kultury stanowiącej tło ludzkiego myślenia oraz języka jako narzędzia ekspresji. Jako ilustracja służą cztery przykłady komunikatów; w trzech pierwszych warstwie werbalnej (tekstowej) towarzyszy kontekst w postaci rysunku; w ostatnim kontekst przywoływany jest za pomocą struktury gramatycznej. Opisując mechanizmy interpretacji komunikatu w towarzyszącym mu kontekście, autorka odwołuje się do teorii przestrzeni mentalnych, stworzonej przez Fauconniera (1985).
    The paper addresses the issue of untranslatability as the resultant of three basic factors, which constitute the content of a translated message and which are interconnected in various proportions: thought originating in the mind, culture as the background for human thinking, and language as a tool for expression. The illustrative material is constituted by four messages: the verbal (textual) layer of the first three is accompanied by the context in the form of a drawing, while the context in the last message is evoked by means of a grammatical structure. In describing the message interpretation mechanisms in the context provided, the author avails of the theory of mental spaces by Fauconnier (1985).

    Komplementarność teorii sieci relacyjnych i teorii amalgamatówThe article aims to show that Lamb’s Relational Network Theory (RNT) (1999) is compatible with Fauconnier and Turner’s Conceptual Network Theory (CNT) (1998) and that the theories may complement each other in the analysis of language-related operations. The article presents main assumptions of both theories and describes a stratificational model of language developed by Sydney Lamb. According to Lamb, language constitutes a network of relationships which shares a number of similarities with the neural network of the human brain. Parts of the linguistic network are activated by linguistic input and brought to light by Fauconnier’s mental spaces. Additionally, the author of the article emphasises that the process of integration operates at various linguistic levels and is crucial for proper structuring of linguisticelements, which is evident from the analysis of verbal blunders.
