Opis:: The subject of the article is the theological anthropology which is pointed in the first encyclical „Deus caritas est” written by Pope Benedict XVI. In his encyclical the Holy Father focuses on the most essential „reality” in the Church - Love. He wrote the encyclical as a classic apologetic discourse. The pope dialogues with the non-christian thoughts - the ancient thought and the modem thought (Frederic Nietzsche and Carol Marks). The pope speaks about Love. At the same time, he presents the Christian image of man and man’s vocation. The newness and authentic of Christian love is really connected with the Christian image of Triune God, God who is Love. The radical newness of Christian understanding of God is the groundwork o f understanding the man and man’s vocation. This is the man who lives in - important for his identity - relation to God and another man. The man as „I” realizes in a community „we”. The man „in relation” is the image of God. In the encyclical the vision of man is through theological, christological and trinitarian. It is the vision of man who is called to live in a community (communion). And the vision realizes in the community of Church called community of love.

Zwrócono w nim uwagę na znaczenie tego zagadnienia w kontekście pedagogicznym. Na początku autor dokonał próby wyjaśnienia owego pojęcia. Należy podkreślić, że miłość bliźniego wynika z Miłości Boga do człowieka. W artykule przybliżono także jak w praktyce można przejawiać miłość względem bliźnich. Ostatnia część dotyczy spojrzenia na sprawę z punktu widzenia wychowawczego. Również dla pedagogiki jest to zagadnienie istotne. Wychowanie do miłości bliźniego powinno być jednym z celów wychowania.

The term love appears to be one of the most often used and abused as well. Franciszek Sawicki, one of the most important Polish philosophers, noticed this fact almost a century ago. The article presents his analyses embracing the nature of love as an act in which human person in whole its integrity gets involved, indicating at the same time the inseparable bond between love and truth.

Opis:: Benedict XVI, in encyclic Deus caritas est, showed the ideal of conjugal love. He reminded ancient words: eros, amor, philia, agape, caritas and explained their meaning. He discussed the issue of conjugal love in the context of Christian love, taking into consideration love as a divine gift and its sacramental dimension and reflecting the love of Jesus Christ to the Church. He himself makes a perfect sacrifice, dies for his Church. So also, the spouses make a sacrifice for the other, beloved person. The Christian approach to love, with its moral aspects, presents it as a way to holiness, taking into account the sinfulness of human nature. The anthropological dimension of conjugal love is sanctified when the spouses renounce their „I” direct themselves to „you”, and transform into „we” by the grace and blessing received from God. The Eucharist is the source of conjugal love. An important aspect of marriage is social reference, understood as caritas.

Opis:: The article presents the subject of God’s love in J. Ratzinger/Benedict XVI’s interpretation. The theme of God’s love, according to Ratzinger, is not to be reduced to one of the many theological issues to be discussed. Pope puts the love of God at the center of the Christian life as a principle and interpretative key. It is no coincidence that the first encyclical Deus caritas est, inaugurating his pontificate, begins with the words which are the profession of faith in the name of God who is Love. This agapetological feature of the Papal reflection sets the frame of his theology and points at the sphere where it reaches its essence and consummation. The subject of God’s love is discussed in two parts of the article: the first one consists of the analysis of the three terms: eros, agape and caritas, which are the three aspects of love. The philosophical and biblical analysis of these expressions made by Benedict XVI allows him to extract the essence of divine love. In the second part of the present article, the three moments reflecting the whole dynamics of love in the teaching of the Pope will be discussed: the source of love in the Triune God (1), the concretization and the fullest revelation of love in the person and work of Jesus Christ (2), and the relationship between the love of God and the love of man (3). The latter ultimately becomes a human response based on the primacy of God’s love, and turns into a divine-human love.

Opis:: Rev. Franciszek Sawicki (1877-1952) was a philosopher, apologist and theologian who thoroughly studied the subject of “God’s eternal love”. Assuming that the most elevated expression for describing God are the words “God is love” (1 J 4:8), Sawicki searched for the most appropriate way to express this truth. He worked in the field of philosophy, theology, and direct life experience. His most significant publications on the subject of God’s love are Filozofia miłości (1924), Bóg jest miłością, Caritas w oświetleniu społecznym i moralno-religijnym (1949). According to Sawicki, man’s life consists not only of a natural dimension (what a man is) but also of his personal life (who a man is). The level of “personality” (the notion used by F. Sawicki) includes both the world of sensual nature, as well as the spiritual dimension of personality, where selfdetermination and responsibility play a special role. Here man’s social and relational assignment should be stressed. It is on the basis of “the ideal of personality” that Sawicki builds up his relational concept of love. It touches upon the intellectual, emotional, and experiential sphere. God, who is Love himself, gave a man power and enabled him to enter into a relationship of love with his Creator and Saviour. It is “the eternal love of God” that provides daily bread and grants his grace resulting from his wisdom and mercy. Sawicki spots the “gesture” of mercy in the commandment of love, which helps man to decide freely about the subject of his love: God, and, through Him and in Him, another man, his neighbour. God’s mercy is particularly emphasized towards those who betrayed the “plan of eternal love of God”. God’s love, in the act of salvation brought by Jesus Christ (“the most personal personality”), is always ready to renew the gift of love in the man. On the other hand, man’s answer should be full of gratitude for “new life” and the renewal of love. It should abound with with acts of mercy towards those who need love, crushed by the burden of “their way”. This way Sawicki sketches the providential plan of the eternal love of God who uses its power to solve the problem of evil and suffering.

Opis:: The concept of Christian morality depends on the place that is given to love and how this love is expressed (its specificity). In the context of contemporary concepts of love and the loss of man in the field of love, it is particularly important to recognize the new commandment of love. Love is, on the one hand, a gift of God, and on the other – it has been clearly formulated as a commandment. In the following publication – based on the teachings of Pope Benedict contained in the encyclical Deus caritas est – the theme of love will be presented as the New Covenant law, expressed in the Jesus new commandment of love. This reflection will be an attempt to explain in what key to properly understand the new commandment of love, which Jesus proclaimed to his disciples and how it should be implemented in the life of a believer. For love is the heart of the morality of the New Covenant.
Koncepcja moralności chrześcijańskiej zależy od miejsca, jakie przyznaje się miłości i jak się tę miłość (jej specyfikę) ujmuje. W kontekście współczesnych koncepcji miłości i zagubienia człowieka na płaszczyźnie miłości szczególnie ważne staje się rozpoznanie nowego przykazania miłości. Miłość jest z jednej strony darem Boga, a z drugiej – zostało wyraźnie sformułowane jako przykazanie. W niniejszej publikacji – w oparciu o nauczanie papieża Benedykta zawarte w encyklice Deus caritas est – zostanie ukazany temat miłości jako prawa Nowego Przymierza, wyrażony w Jezusowym nowym przykazaniu miłości . W refleksji będzie podjęta próba wyjaśnienia, w jakim kluczu właściwie rozumieć nowe przykazanie miłości, które Jezus proklamował wobec swoich uczniów oraz jak powinno być ono realizowane w życiu człowieka wierzącego. Miłość bowiem jest sercem moralności Nowego Przymierza.

Opis:: Chrześcijańska wizja miłości, tak głęboko personalistyczna i podkreślająca wyraźnie, że nie można przeciwstawiać miłości do Boga i miłości bliźniego, nie może nie uwzględniać społecznej natury człowieka. Jeśli miłość stanowi centrum życia chrześcijanina, a zarazem wskazuje na specyfikę jego powołania i posłannictwa, to nie sposób sobie wyobrazić, żeby ta fundamentalna perspektywa życiowa nie znalazła właściwego wyrazu w odniesieniu do życia społecznego. Ta miłość powinna wyrażać się w wielu postawach społecznych, nade wszystko w tych, które uznaje się za fundamentalne zasady życia społecznego. W codziennym życiu społecznym ważna jest umiejętność wcielania w życie zasad miłości. Chodzi tu o bardzo wiele konkretnych postaw. W niniejszej refleksji omówiono – w świetle encyklik Deus caritas est i Caritas in veritate papieża Benedykta – zagadnienie miłości w trzech aspektach: miłość w mikro-relacjach, miłość a sprawiedliwość w makro-relacjach oraz miłość a dobro wspólne w makro-relacjach.
The Christian vision of love, so deeply personalistic and clearly emphasizing that the love of God and the love of neighbour cannot be opposed, has to take the social nature of man into account. If love is the centre of the Christian life and also points to the specificity of its vocation and mission, then it is impossible to imagine that this fundamental life perspective does not find the right expression in relation to social life. This love should be expressed in a number of social attitudes, especially in those which are considered fundamental principles of social life. The ability to enact the principles of love is important in everyday social life. It involves multiple specific attitudes. This paper discusses – in the light of the encyclical Deus Caritas Est and Caritas in veritate by Pope Benedict XVI - the issue of love in three aspects: love in micro-relations, love and justice in macro-relations and love as a common good in macro-relations.
Die christliche Sicht der Liebe, eine zutiefst personalistische und eindeutig betonende, zeigt, dass man der Liebe zu Gott und zu den Menschen nichts entgegensetzen darf, muss ihrerseits die soziale Natur des Menschen berücksichtigen. Wenn die Liebe das Zentrum des christlichen Lebens bildet und gleichzeitig auf die Spezifik seiner Berufung und Sendung verweist, bleibt es unvorstellbar, dass diese fundamentale Lebensperspektive auch im sozialen Leben ihre eigene Ausdrucksweise nicht finden könnte. Diese Liebe muss sich in vielen sozialen Haltungen äußern, vor allem in jenen, die man für fundamentale Prinzipien des gesellschaftlichen Lebens hält. Im täglichen sozialen Leben ist die Fähigkeit wichtig, die Grundsätze der Liebe in die Praxis umzusetzen. Es geht um viele konkrete Haltungen. Im Artikel wurde die Liebe im Licht der beiden Enzykliken von Papst Benedikt XVI. Deus caritas est und Caritas in veritate in drei Aspekten behandelt: Liebe in Mikro-Relationen, Liebe und Gerechtigkeit in Makro-Relationen sowie der Zusammenhang zwischen Liebe und Gemeinwohl in Makro-Relationen.

Opis:: When announcing the encyclical Deus Caritas Est on December 25, 2005, Pope Benedict XVI added momentum to the discussion of the essence and unique nature of the Church’s charity work. In the discussion of such work, among others, P.J. Cordes’ voice is not to be ignored, not only due to the high position he holds (President of the Papal Council “Cor Unum”) but also his influential publications on charity theology, especially his latest book entitled: Helfer fallen nicht vom Himmel. Caritas und Spiritualität (Eng. Those who give help do not descend from heaven. Caritas and spirituality). In Cardinal’s view, nowadays institutionalized charity work demands an insight into political, economic, sanitary, anthropological and administrative spheres as well as practical skills proved by appropriate certificates. All of this is important and necessary, yet insufficient from the perspective of the charity organizations of the Catholic Church. Only a shift from the legal paradigm to the one of faith will permit a deeper insight into human poverty. Therefore, professionalization of the forms and means should be accompanied by a greater concern for spiritual formation of people who are either professionally or voluntarily involved in the charity mission of the Church.

Opis:: The essay aims to reveal the role of music in the movie Interstellar by Christopher Nolan and its significance in creating an artistic message that relates to the love myths characteristic of European culture and art. The orientation point is the Tristanic myth and the project of musical dramaturgy by Richard Wagner, the founder of the concept of music being the significant layer in a Gesamtkunstwerk, a synthesis of the arts, which strongly inspires i.a. cinema. The article ponders possible messages to be decoded from the music in Nolan’s movie: as a “form of a lover’s discourse” (R. Barthes), “significant form” (Suzanne K. Langer), “symbolic form” (E. Cassirer), responsible for shaping the ambience that constitutes an inherent structural part of the movie in the metaphysical cinema genre. The musical solutions applied by Hans Zimmer in the soundtrack to Nolan’s movie do more than merely imply inspiration from Wagner. They also allow for recognition of the polyphonic way of constructing formal and thematic relations between musical themes and the verbal-visual layer of the movie. This refined artistic project aims at a subtly directed confrontation with the nihilistic picture of love that is representative of melancholic-pessimistic images of the condition of human relationships in the modern culture. The analysed main musical theme, called the “à rebours chord” (i.e. anti-Tristan chord), turns out to be an overt musical manifestation of such a counterpunch and becomes a starting point to telling a story that refers to the concept of love which assumes taking action and fighting for the good of your loved ones, as well as the concept of Caritas and unconditional love. The way that the music and sound of the movie are orchestrated is therefore tightly coupled with its semantic and symbolic message, which allows for perceiving the music as a specific “libration point” of the movie structure. Its function might also be interpreted as a semantic attribute of “a spiritual intelligence”, referring to that which is binding and crucial for the axiological and metaphysical message of the movie.

Opis:: Every Christian as a member of Christ’s Church is called to give real testimony about God who is love (1 J 4, 8. 16). This is because God established the Church so that it could be the proponent of the truth and the propagator of God’s love in the world. The testimony of Christian love requires more than a verbal declaration; it requires deeds (1 J 3, 18). The living faith and strong hope is the foundation of Christian testimony of love, and its important manifestation is the Christians’ social life. This is why the Church, from the beginning of its history, not only propagated the truth with the word, but also performed charity service among poor people and ones who needed aid. The Christian caritas and volunteering are an important form of Christian testimony, strengthening the credibility of God’s word preached in the Church. Both volunteers and all Christians need a constant Christian and charity formation.
