The physical nature of inertia forces is shown on the base of theory of byuons, the theory of “life’ of special unobservable discrete objects – byuons from which the surrounding physical space (dark matter) and the world of elementary particles are formed. The theory of byuons predicts a new non-gauge force of nature which explains of physical nature of inertia forces.

Carbon Fiber Reinforced polymer (CFRP) bars are weak in yielding property which results in sudden failure of structure at failure load. Inclusion of non-pretensioned steel reinforcement in the tension side of CFRP based prestressed concrete beam will balance the yielding requirements of member and it will show the definite crack failure pattern before failure. Experimental investigation has been carried out to study the deflection behavior of partially prestressed beam. Experimental works includes four beam specimens stressed by varying degree of prestressing. The Partial Prestressing Ratio (PPR) of specimen is considered for experimental works in the range of 0.6 to 0.8. A new deflection model is recommended in the present study considering the strain contribution of CFRP bar and steel reinforcement for the fully bonded member. New deflection model converges to experimental results with the error of less than 5% .

In the paper, dynamic investigations of multi-mass discrete-continuous systems torsionally deformed are performed taking into account the position-dependent mass moment of inertia of one of rigid bodies. It is assumed that the rigid body representing a motor moves with a variable velocity. An originally nonlinear problem is linearized, and the wave approach leading to solving equations with a retarded argument having variable coefficients is used for the solution. Exemplary numerical calculations are done for a three-mass system.

Let G be a graph with n vertices and ν(G) be the matching number of G. The inertia of a graph G, In(G) = (n₊,n₋,n₀) is an integer triple specifying the numbers of positive, negative and zero eigenvalues of the adjacency matrix A(G), respectively. Let η(G) = n₀ denote the nullity of G (the multiplicity of the eigenvalue zero of G). It is well known that if G is a tree, then η(G) = n - 2ν(G). Guo et al. [Ji-Ming Guo, Weigen Yan and Yeong-Nan Yeh. On the nullity and the matching number of unicyclic graphs, Linear Algebra and its Applications, 431 (2009), 1293-1301.] proved if G is a unicyclic graph, then η(G) equals n - 2ν(G) - 1, n-2ν(G) or n - 2ν(G) + 2. Barrett et al. determined the inertia sets for trees and graphs with cut vertices. In this paper, we give the nullity of bicyclic graphs ₙ⁺⁺. Furthermore, we determine the inertia set in unicyclic graphs and ₙ⁺⁺, respectively.

Opis:
This study investigates the effects of inertia on the hydroelastic instability of a pressure- -driven Herschel-Bulkley fluid passing through a two-dimensional channel lined with a polymeric coating. The no-viscous hyperelastic polymeric coating is assumed to follow the two-constant Mooney-Rivlin model. In this work, analytical basic solutions are determined for both the polymeric gel and the fluid at very low Reynolds numbers. Next, the basic solutions are subjected to infinitesimally-small, normal-mode perturbations. After eliminating the nonlinear terms, two 4-th order differential equations are obtained. The equations with appropriate boundary conditions are then numerically solved using the shooting method. The results of the solution show that the inertia terms in the perturbed equations destabilize the pressure-driven Herschel-Bulkley fluid flow. The investigation reveals that the elastic parameter has a stabilizing effect on the flow. Also, based on the obtained results, the yield stress, depending on the power-law index, has a stabilizing or destabilizing effect on the flow. Since in this work the inertia terms are included in the pertinent governing equations, therefore, the results of this study are much more realistic and reliable than previous works in which inertia terms were absent. In addition, unlike the previous works, the present study considers both the shear-thinning and shear-thickening types of fluids. Hence, the results of this work embrace all the fluids which obey the Herschel-Bulkley model.

Opis:
Void initiation and growth serve as an important mechanism in ductile failures in metals. Particularly, on the micron-level, the extra hardening effect associated with strain gradient is accounted for by adopting strain gradient elasto-plasticity instead of the conventional plasticity. Effects of inertial, strain gradient hardening and thermal softening are formulated analytically for the case where a spherical void expands under external hydrostatic stress. As demonstrated by our results, the inertia effect firstly tends to hinder but then promotes the void growth. The threshold stress required for rapid void growth is lifted due to extra hardening of strain gradient so that the growth of a smaller void is delayed more remarkably. A considerable thermal softening phenomenon is observed here, which is caused by plastic work during the deformation process. The final void growth rate is mainly related to the maximum loading, which is consistent with the prediction based on the classical plastic theory.

The aim of this study is to determine whether mutual funds provide benefits for their clients. The performance of Polish mutual funds has been evaluated in terms of their efficiency, including their potential inertia over time. Moreover, the use of the phenomenon of economies of scale resulting from assets inflow to the fund by means of the Markovian framework has been examined. The results are consistent with the efficient market hypothesis. When assessing the market-adjusted returns, underperformance was noticed in both small and large funds. The smart money effect, recognised in the literature, is not confirmed here; however, there are some noticeable investor reactions, such as the phenomenon of chasing performance.

This paper discusses the method used to identify the process involving fatigue cracking of samples on the basis of selected vibration signal characteristics. Acceleration of vibrations has been chosen as a diagnostic signal in the analysis of sample cross section. Signal characteristics in form of change in vibration amplitudes and corresponding changes in FFT spectrum have been indicated for the acceleration. The tests were performed on a designed setup, where destruction process was caused by the force of inertia of the sample. Based on the conducted tests, it was found that the demonstrated sample structure change identification method may be applied to identify the technical condition of the structure in the aspect of loss of its continuity and its properties (e.g.: mechanical and fatigue cracks). The vibration analysis results have been verified by penetration and visual methods, using a scanning electron microscope.

Opis:
The transition of power grids to implement large amounts of nonsynchronous renewables reduces the inertia in the power system. Therefore, the rate of change of fre- quency (ROCOF) after a fault of given energy is higher in low inertia grids than in grids with mainly synchronous machines operating. Standard faults for the design of existing synchronous machines assume fixed frequency grids, in which an electrically close fault happens. It is not tested, if the machines can ride through transient disturbances with high ROCOF. For ROCOF values of up to 1 Hz/s as foreseen for the upcoming grid code of the Republic of Ireland and up to 2 Hz/s for Northern Ireland, a thorough verification, if generators are capable to ride through such events is necessary. For this study, ROCOF frequency traces provided by the transmission system operators (TSOs) of Ireland were first benchmarked with a full-grid model and in a second step impressed on a model of generators connected to the power grid via a step-up transformer to study transient stability and nonlinear response of the generator. This paper focusses on the ability of nine different synchronous machines to stay connected to the transmission system during severe ROCOF events without losing synchronism.
