Opis:
An optoelectronic system for controlling a direct current (DC) motor is presented in Part 1 of the article. The software for the designed motor is described in Part 2. A system for processing data from an infrared transmitter was built. The project was upgraded in successive stages of development, and it ultimately evolved into a small computer with a motor controller. The designed system automatically adjusts the motor’s rotation and speed. The user is tasked only with conveying operational commands. The entire system is based on a single microcontroller. The designed optoelectronic system receives user commands (the program can be modified to support free-space optical communication networks conforming to all communication standards). The system activates the motor, counts the number of rotations and adjusts the motor’s position. The designed system operates on the following principle: the user sends commands to the motor via a remote control with an infrared diode. The keys on the remote control have been programmed with different commands. The transmitted data are processed by the system which activates the motor and sets the desired motor speed. The task is completed, and the system is ready to process the next command. If the number of rotations differs from the preset value, the motor’s position is adjusted. If the physical position of the rotor axis is altered, the system corrects the offset to the last programmed position. The designed system can be easily adapted to various types of motors and IR controllers.

Opis:
In order to improve the safety and comfort of autonomous vehicles passing through the expressway, relevant departments of expressway construction often design and lay consecutive speed control humps (SCHs) with cross-sections of different shapes according to different road conditions, such as the combination of trapezoidal and sinusoidal SCHs. In this paper, we conduct a study about the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the autonomous vehicle passing through hybrid SCHs. Firstly, a four-degree-of-freedom (4-DOF) nonlinear model of the vehicle suspension and the speed coupling excitation model under hybrid SCHs are established. Then the fourth-fifth order Runge–Kutta method is used to simulate the nonlinear system, and its nonlinear dynamic characteristics are analyzed. The results show that chaotic motion occurs when the vehicle passes through hybrid SCHs, and the speed range of chaotic motion is obtained. Then, a direct variable feedback control method is used to suppress the chaotic vibration of semi-active suspension vehicles, and the effect is verified by simulation experiments. Finally, this paper presents a multi-objective optimization model based on a genetic algorithm (GA) for active suspension vehicles. The optimization model selects the vertical displacement and pitching angle of the vehicle body as the objective function. The research results of this paper can provide information on the ride comfort’s optimization for autonomous vehicles passing through hybrid SCHs and on the design of vehicle suspension system.

Opis:
Extensive environmental protection activities include the promotion of alternative drive systems for motor vehicles. An important role in this field is played by hybrid vehicles, with their low operation costs being a strong marketing argument. Can such economies be conducive to the intensity of use of hybrid vehicles compared with vehicles with conventional drive systems? To answer this question, the intensity of use of hybrid vehicles was observed in a few different countries. The attention was focused on the occurrence of extreme (very low and very high) mileage values within comparable vehicle groups. The survey carried out has revealed distinct differences in the intensity of use of hybrid vehicles compared with motor vehicles with conventional drive systems (IC). The average mileage values for hybrid vehicles are higher than those recorded for conventional ones during the same period, but this difference can only be seen in the initial period of vehicle use, rapidly decreasing with vehicle operation years. The share of vehicles with extreme mileage values recorded during the period under observation, presented in the paper in several ways, declines with the years of vehicle use. In spite of that, however, the percentage of vehicles with extreme mileage values is high in HVs group against IC.

Opis:
Aim: The aim of the article is to review information about motor vehicles that use alternative propulsion systems (in this case, electric propulsion) and the risks associated with their use. The discussion of these issues is crucial for undertaking rescue and firefighting operations during incidents (fires, local emergencies) involving alternatively powered vehicles and the effectiveness of these operations. Knowledge in the areas of: hazard identification, improvement of rescue technologies, necessary devices and equipment for effective rescue and firefighting operations during traffic incidents, including fires, with the involvement of vehicles with alternative propulsion systems can be gained from both theoretical and empirical studies. Introduction: Technical and technological advances in the area of drives used in vehicles and machinery pose new challenges for fire protection. They concern, among other things, the technology of rescue operations during fires and traffic accidents involving such vehicles, as well as ensuring fire safety when operating and storing them in buildings, garages and parking areas, and during charging. Methodology: The article was prepared based on national and foreign sources, literature on the subject, research results and the authors’ diverse experiences. It describes the current state of knowledge in terms of hazards and how to deal with them during rescue and firefighting operations against incidents involving alternatively powered vehicles. Conclusions: The number of motor vehicles in Poland and other countries continues to grow, and together with it also the number of vehicles equipped with alternative drives to internal combustion engines (gasoline, diesel). An analysis of the literature on the subject, available research results, as well as individual incidents, lead to the reasonable conclusion that the risks during rescue and firefighting operations associated with the incidents involving electric and hybrid vehicles are no greater than for conventionally powered vehicles. They are different to some extent, which is due in particular to the used power system, which is based on energy storage devices – batteries.
Wprowadzenie: Postęp techniczny i zaawansowane technologie w zakresie napędów stosowanych w pojazdach i maszynach stawiają przed ochroną przeciwpożarową nowe wyzwania. Artykuł opisuje obecny stan wiedzy w zakresie zagrożeń i radzenia sobie z nimi podczas prowadzenia działań ratowniczo-gaśniczych wobec zdarzeń z udziałem pojazdów z napędami alternatywnymi.

Opis:
Reducing energy consumption is a key focus for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) development. The popular vehicle dynamic model used in many energy management optimization studies does not capture the vehicle dynamics that the in-vehicle measurement system does. However, feedback from the measurement system is what the vehicle controller actually uses to manage energy consumption. Therefore, the optimization solely using the model does not represent what the vehicle controller sees in the vehicle. This paper reports the utility factor-weighted energy consumption using a rule-based strategy under a real-world representative drive cycle. In addition, the vehicle test data was used to perform the optimization approach. By comparing results from both rule-based and optimization-based strategies, the areas for further improving rule-based strategy are discussed. Furthermore, recent development of OBD raises a concern about the increase of energy consumption. This paper investigates the energy consumption increase with extensive OBD usage.

Opis:
In recent years, electric and hybrid vehicles have taken more and more attention due to their apparent advantages in saving fuel resources and reducing harmful emissions into the environment. Even though electric vehicles can solve the ecological problem, their operation is faced with a number of inconveniences associated with a limited driving distance from a single charge due to limited storage of energy from an independent power source and a lack of the required service and repair infrastructure. In hybrid and electric vehicles one of the main parameters is the curb weight, which affects energy consumption, vehicle speed, stability, controllability and maneuverability. In this regard, leading car manufacturers use parts with a low specific weight (non-metallic, aluminum alloys, etc.) in the design and also exclude some units from the design. Due to these technical solutions, the vehicle's operating is improved. One of the groups of parameters to be defined when designing a new electric vehicle is the parameters relating to the electric motor. The purpose of the article is determination of the mechanical characteristics of a two-rotor electric motor during magnetic flux control and assessment of the possibility of organizing the drive of the drive wheels of the vehicle. The electric motor has two mechanically independent outputs. For the study, an electrical equivalent diagram has been developed for the given two-rotor electric motor. A simulation model of the equivalent diagram has been built. Simulating the interaction processes of the rotors with the stator made it possible to obtain data for building the mechanical characteristics for each output of the electric motor. Analysis and processing of the mechanical characteristics data of the electric motors showed the conformity and the range of changes in the torque on each of the rotors when changing their slip and revolution, which are required when building algorithms for the operation of electric motor control systems as part of drives for various purposes. Analysis of the simulation results made it possible to assess the possibility of using the considered two-rotor electric motor for the drive of drive wheels in an electric and hybrid wheeled vehicle.

The conditions of use of the vehicle significantly affect the performance results. Traffic conditions in a specific city directly affect the consumption of energy, fuel and emissions of harmful compounds in exhaust fumes. Conduction of the measurements of a vehicle’s performance parameters in operating conditions is very troublesome and is often not possible to realize. An alternative is to use the simulation programs. Vehicle simulation programs offer options related to vehicle models or drive unit components and allow development of new models. Based on the results of simulation testing, it is possible to analyse the level of fuel and energy consumption as well as emissions of harmful compounds in exhaust gases and the operating effectiveness of the drive system in the speed profile. The paper presents the evaluation of the effectiveness of using hybrid electric drive system in passenger cars in medium-sized city traffic conditions using the Kielce example. The simulation tests were based on the speed profiles recorded during real-world test drives in various times of the day. The simulation results were used to conduct an analysis of fuel consumption and pollutant emissions recorded by conventional and hybrid vehicles.
Opis:
In a regular drive system, with an internal combustion engine, vehicle braking is connected with the unproductive dissipation of kinetic and potential energy accumulated in the mass of the vehicle into the environment. This energy can constitute up to 70% of the energy used to drive a vehicle under urban conditions. Its recovery and reuse is one of the basic advantages of hybrid and electric vehicles. Modern traffic management systems as well as navigation systems should take into account the possibility of the energy recovery in the process of regenerative braking. For this purpose, a model of a regenerative braking process may be helpful, which on the one hand will enable to provide information on how traffic conditions will affect the amount of energy dissipated (wasted) into the atmosphere, on the other hand will help to optimize the route of vehicles with regenerative braking systems. This work contains an analysis of the process of the regenerative braking for the urban traffic conditions registered in Gdańsk. A model was also presented that allows calculating the amount of energy available from the braking process depending on the proposed variables characterizing the vehicle traffic conditions.
