Opis:
Transition metal dichalcogenides show new emergent properties at monolayer thickness, notably strong Coulomb and electron-phonon interactions enable new insight into physics of many body effects. Here, we report photoluminescence and reflectivity contrast measurements of excitons (X) and trions (T) and the Raman spectra of phonons in monolayers of $Mo(S_ySe_{1-y})_2$ alloys with sulfur mole content from y=0 up to y=1. Binary MoSe₂ and ternary $Mo(S_ySe_{2-y})$ alloys exhibit contrasting behavior in the temperature evolution of excitons and trions photoluminescence intensity from T=7-295 K. In MoSe₂ a trion dominates photoluminescence spectra at low temperatures but exciton dominates photoluminescence at higher temperature. In contrast, in ternary $Mo(S_ySe_{1-y})_2$ alloys and MoS₂ trions dominate photoluminescence spectra at all measured temperatures, with the trion to exciton photoluminescence intensity ratio increasing with sulfur content. We attribute the strong increase of the trion photoluminescence intensity in $Mo(S_ySe_{1-y})_2$ monolayers with increase of sulfur mole content to the significant increase of the two-dimensional electron gas concentration and also to the strong exciton-trion coupling mediated by an optical phonon. We also demonstrate that increasing sulfur content in $Mo(S_ySe_{1-y})_2$ alloys stabilizes total photoluminescence intensity at high temperature.

Opis:
Two-dimensional (2D) metal halide perovskites are natural quantum wells which consist of low bandgap metal-halide slabs, surrounded by organic spacers barriers. The quantum and dielectric confinements provided by the organic part lead to the extreme exciton binding energy which results in a huge enhancement of exciton fine structure in this material system. This makes 2D perovskites a fascinating playground for fundamental excitonic physics studies. In this review, we summarize the current understanding and quantification of the exciton fine structure in 2D perovskites. We discuss what is the role of exciton fine structure in the optical response of 2D perovskites and how it challenges our understanding of this fundamental excitation. Finally, we highlight some controversy related to particularly large bright-dark exciton states splitting and high efficiency of light emission from these materials. This can result from the unique synergy of excitonic and mechanical properties of 2D perovskites crystals.

Opis:
To study the generation of exciton polaritons in a quantum well embedded in a semiconductor Fabry-Pérot microcavity with distributed Brag reflectors, a simple semi-classical auxiliary differential equation based model is proposed. The solutions are obtained using FDTD method considering only the excitations from ground to next excited states and one single QW resonance. The simulations are presented for GaAs quantum well in Al0.1Ga0.9As microcavity and a ZnS quantum well embedded in CdSe microcavity with 12 DBR layers on either side. Model is proved to be stable and agrees with properties of polarization associated with polariton dispersion. Results show that GaAs is a better quantum well material to generate polaritons than CdSe.
