Opis:
This paper describes a hear-rate methodology to determine the cost-effectiveness of an ergonomics intervention to reduce workload and improve working conditions. This is a practical approach as opposed to the energy expenditure technique that is difficult to implement in natural settings. This was a laboratory study using a large excavator cabin with devices to simulate excavation operations. Mean heart rate was used to calculate the required rest time during a shift with or without air-conditioning. The criterion for evaluation was differences in required rest time during a shift under these 2 conditions. The simplicity and objectivity of this approach invites use to solve the problem of the economic evaluation of ergonomics interventions.

Opis:
Retrieval Induced Forgetting (RIF) refers to the fi nding that the retrieval of some items from memory (RP+) impairs the retrieval of related items (RP-). The RIF effect is indicated by a comparison of RP- with unrelated but also tobe- remembered items (NRP). Since RIF appears during intentional memorizing of words, therefore we checked whether it depends on attentional control (AC) involved in goal maintenance, and also if implicit evaluations of to-be-remembered (RP) contents moderate this process (causing e.g. inhibition). In three experiments, each including AC as the independent variable, we found AC to be related to the RIF effect. Only high but not low AC subjects showed the presence of RIF. The results of the affective priming procedure showed that implicit evaluations of NRP items moderate the relationship of high AC and the RIF effect. The explanation why temporarily devaluated NRP could enhance the RIF effect and suggestion concerning future research summarize the article.

The assassination in Sarajevo of Archduke Francis Ferdinand, heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, precisely one hundred years ago, had certainly been one of most momentous political events in the course of the twentieth century. The aim of the paper is to examine how contemporary newspapers informed about this event, and what methods and linguistic means to describe and analyze the facts and to explain further developments were used. Special attention is given to the differences between Austrian, German and French text samples.

A recent view about disagreement (Karczewska 2021) takes it to consist in the tension arising from proposals and refusals of these proposals to impose certain commitments on the interlocutors in a conversation. This view has been proposed with the aim of solving the problem that “faultless disagreement” – a situation in which two interlocutors are intuited to be both in disagreement and not at fault – poses for contextualism about predicates of taste.In this paper, I consider whether this view applies equally well to disagreements involving aesthetic adjectives. I show, first, that it applies quite straightforwardly to predicates like “beautiful,” which presumably generate faultless disagreement. However, aesthetic adjectives like “beautiful” don’t exhaust the aesthetic sphere. A term like “balanced,” for example, while still perspectival, is said to have a more “objective” feel and usually doesn’t generate faultless disagreement: when the novice and the expert disagree on using such a term, we take it that the expert is right and the novice is wrong. I argue that Karczewska’s view has trouble explaining this difference in the profile of the two types of aesthetic predicates vis-à-vis the generation of disagreement. I also consider possible ways of coping with this problem, but I then reject them and propose a different one that is suitable for most views in the debate.

The authors discuss how the methods of implementation of the EU Directives concerning environmental protection affect spatial planning. They presented Polish activities (new laws and regulation) that have been completed and must still be adopted for the mechanism of environmental management and indirect spatial management in Poland to be adjusted to the EU requirements.

By utilizing meteorological data such as relative humidity, temperature, pressure, rain rate and precipitation duration at eight (8) stations in Aegean Archipelagos from six recent years (2007 – 2012), the effect of the weather on Electromagnetic wave propagation is studied. The EM wave propagation characteristics depend on atmospheric refractivity and consequently on Rain-Rate which vary in time and space randomly. Therefore the statistics of radio refractivity, Rain-Rate and related propagation effects are of main interest. This work investigates the maximum value of rain rate in monthly rainfall records, for a 5 min interval comparing it with different values of integration time as well as different percentages of time. The main goal is to determine the attenuation level for microwave links based on local rainfall data for various sites in Greece (L-zone), namely Aegean Archipelagos, with a view on improved accuracy as compared with more generic zone data available. A measurement of rain attenuation for a link in the S-band has been carried out and the data compared with prediction based on the standard ITU-R method.

In this article I analyze the opinions of high school students from Kalisz (Poland) and unversity students from Poznań (Poland) on the extracorporeal fertilization in vitro and the possibility of using it by infertile married couples. The problem of this method of treatment is connected with medical conscience clause which can in practical application prevent married couples from using it and becoming parents. The basis of this analysis is sociological research carried out in 2011 on 456 students in Kalisz and 426 students in Poznań (courses: sociology, pedagogy, information technology and management). These studies have shown that the majority of the respondents (70.4 %) accepts this method of infertility treatment and its use in practice; a similar proportion (69.8%) opposes the negative position of the Roman Catholic Church questioning this method of infertility treatment and prohibiting its use by its followers. Similarly, the majority of high school students and university students (52.4%) reject the medical conscience clause that Catholic doctors use in relation to in vitro fertilization. The dominant percentage of respondents (68.8%) does not recognize this method of fertilization as morally wrong or as a cardinal sin. Only 23,6% of the responders support the position of the Catholic Church and are against the in vitro method. 
W artykule tym analizuję opinie i poglądy licealistów z Kalisza i studentów z Poznania dotyczące pozaustrojowego zapłodnienia metodą in vitro i stosowania jej w sytuacji małżeństw niepłodnych. Związek z tą metodą leczenia niepłodności małżeńskiej ma lekarska klauzula sumienia, która w praktycznym zastosowaniu uniemożliwia przeprowadzenie tej formy zapłodnienia i pozbawia małżonków niepłodnych możliwości zostania rodzicami własnego dziecka. Podstawę tej analizy stanowią moje badania socjologiczne zrealizowane na ten temat w 2011 roku wśród 456 licealistów w Kaliszu i wśród 426 studentów czterech kierunków studiów: socjologii, pedagogiki, informatyki i zarządzania w Poznaniu. Badania te wykazały, że dominująca większość respondentów (70,4%) akceptuje tę metodę leczenia niepłodności małżonków i jej stosowanie w praktyce. Zbliżony odsetek (69,8%) sprzeciwia się negatywnemu stanowisku Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego kwestionującego tę metodę leczenia niepłodności i zakazującego jej stosowania swoim wyznawcom. Podobnie większość licealistów i studentów (52,4%) odrzuca lekarską klauzulę sumienia, którą stosują lekarze katoliccy w odniesieniu do zapłodnienia metodą in vitro. Dominujący odsetek respondentów (68,8%) nie uznaje tej metody zapłodnienia za czynność złą moralnie czy za grzech ciężki. Przeciw tej metodzie zapłodnienia, a zarazem za zakazami moralnymi Kościoła dotyczącymi jej stosowania w sytuacji małżonków niepłodnych opowiada się zaledwie jedna czwarta licealistów i studentów (23,6%).

W artykule tym ukazuję oceny licealistów, studentów i nauczycieli wychowania do życia w rodzinie dotyczące miłości małżeńskiej i jej uwarunkowań, w tym wierności i zdrady małżeńskiej. Prezentacja ta opiera się na wynikach dwóch moich badań socjologicznych zrealizowanych w 2011 roku wśród uczniów liceów ogólnokształcących i profilowanych w Kaliszu (456) i studentów Wyższej Szkoły Komunikacji i Zarządzania w Poznaniu (436) oraz w 2003 roku wśród nauczycieli wychowania do życia w rodzinie w Kaliszu (186). Badania te zostały zrealizowane metodą sondażu diagnostycznego, z jednoczesnym zastosowaniem techniki ankiety audytoryjnej. Celem ich było poznanie i prezentacja postaw i ocen respondentów dotyczących miłości małżeńskiej i jej uwarunkowań – zwłaszcza wierności i zdrady. 
In this article I present the evaluations of high school students, college students and teachers of Family Life Education concerning marital love and its conditions, including marital fidelity and betrayal. This presentation is based on the results of two of my sociological studies conducted in 2011 among the students of general and profiled high schools in Kalisz (456) and the students of the University of Communication and Management in Poznań (436) and in 2003 among the teachers of Family Life Education in Kalisz (186). The research was carried out using the diagnostic survey method, with the simultaneous application of the auditory questionnaire technique. The purpose of these surveys was to learn and present the attitudes and evaluations of respondents concerning marital love and its conditions - especially fidelity and betrayal.

To investigate the role of academic achievement in the reasons for participation in and/or avoidance of competition more clearly, the presented research was aimed at assessing the role of the discrepancy between objective evaluations and subjective self-evaluations of academic performance in secondary school students. The differences between under-raters, accurate raters, and over-raters in their reasons for participation in and/or avoidance of competition were investigated. The study comprised 534 secondary school students. The results do not clearly indicate possible benefits of the positive bias; we found that under-rating may have some advantages in the sense of mastery orientation and self-improvement motives (upward comparison) in competitive situations. Concerning other reasons for participation in competition, as well as reasons for avoiding it, students were found to rely more on teachers’ objective measure of academic performance than on the (in)accurate aspect of social comparison information.

Przedstawiono model propagacji fal typu Stoneleya (SW) wzdłuż statystycznie nierównej płaszczyzny łączącej dwa izotropowe ośrodki sprężyste. Skorzystano z metody funkcji Greena. Powierzchnię zamodelowano normalnym, izotropowym w szerszym sensie polem losowym. Uzyskano charakterystyki statystyczne zaburzonego pola dynamicznego. Praca stanowi fragment szerszej teorii badań nieniszczących międzypowierzchni materialnych.
The continuing development of surface acoustic wave technology, with growing role of the high frequency region, stimulates the need for a more comprehensive study of the effect of various surface and interface inhomogeneities on the propagation characteristics of such waves. Although this topic has been treated for a long time (references, see e.g. [3]), the existing solutions essentially concern very simplified model schemes, basing predominantly on perturbation techniques. The paper deals with propagation of Stoneley waves on rough interfaces between two different materials. The surface profile is modelled by the random field with the known mean value and the correlation function. We use a method based on the Green function technique combined with a well known approach [4] which resides in replacing a rough interface between two different materials by an ideal one with a randomly distributed stress tensor. This enables us to find consistent closed form expressions describing the frequency power spectrum of the random field of displacements.

Celem pracy była ocena in vitro cytotoksycznego działania bioresorbowalnego kopolimeru glikolidu z laktydem (PLGA) na ludzkie osteoblasty linii hFOB 1.19 poprzez pomiar aktywności dehydrogenazy mitochondrialnej (test MTT) oraz dehydrogenazy mleczanowej (test LDH). Do badań użyto ekstrakt uzyskany po 8 dniach inkubacji kopolimeru PLGA w medium wykorzystywanym do hodowli osteoblastów. Ekstrakt ten następnie kontaktowano przez 24 oraz 48 godziny z zaadherowanymi do dna naczynia hodowlanego osteoblastami. Po upływie założonego czasu inkubacji zarówno test MTT, jak i test LDH nie wykazał cytotoksycznego działania kopolimeru PLGA na ludzkie komórki kościotwórcze.
The aim of the work was to evaluate in vitro the cytotoxic effect of bioresorbable polylactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) on the hFOB 1.19 human osteoblastic cell line by measuring the activity of mitochondrial dehydrogenase (MTT test) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH test). The research made use of an extract obtained after 8 days of PLGA incubation in a medium used for osteoblast culturing. The extract was then brought into contact with osteoblasts adhered to the bottom of the culture vessel for 24 and 48 hours. After the set incubation time neither the MTT test nor the LDH test showed a cytotoxic effect of PLGA on human osteogenic cells.

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie związku pomiędzy ocenami i opiniami gości na temat jakości usług hotelarskich a decyzjami podejmowanymi przez menedżerów wybranych hoteli w Lublinie. Ponieważ w mieście przeważają hotele trzygwiazdkowe, w badaniach skoncentrowano się na obiektach tej kategorii. W procedurze badawczej zastosowano kilka metod, m.in. kwerendę internetową stron hoteli, metodę analizy kontekstowej, będącej odpowiednikiem Text Mining, w zakresie analizy komentarzy pozostawionych na portalu booking.com oraz sondażu diagnostycznego z wykorzystaniem kwestionariusza wywiadu skierowanego do menedżerów hoteli. Pod względem oceny ilościowej (w skali 1–10), spośród uwzględnionych lubelskich hoteli (Focus, Locomotiva, Victoria i Willowa), najwyżej oceniony został Hotel Focus (średnia ocen 8,8). W zakresie oceny jakościowej najwięcej pozytywnych opinii uzyskały następujące zmienne: poziom obsługi i czystość pokoju (w hotelach Focus, Victoria i Locomotiva) oraz lokalizacja obiektu (w Hotelu Victoria). Prawie połowa wszystkich negatywnych komentarzy dotyczyła parkingu. Z sondażu przeprowadzonego z menedżerami wynika, że komentarze gości mają duży wpływ na zmiany wprowadzane w hotelach (np. w zakresie czasu serwowania śniadań w Hotelu Willowa czy poszerzenia bufetu szwedzkiego w Hotelu Locomotiva). Metoda analizy kontekstowej, która może być odpowiednikiem metody SERVQUAL, ma szczególną wartość badawczą zwłaszcza w warunkach pandemii COVID-19, kiedy niemożliwe jest osobiste przeprowadzanie wywiadów.
The aim of this study is to present the correlation between guests’ evaluations and opinions about the quality of hotel services and decisions made by managers of selected hotels in Lublin. The results of the search indicate that three-star hotels predominate in the city, therefore the study focused on objects of this category. Several methods were used in the research procedure, including Internet query of hotel websites, the contextual analysis method, which is the equivalent of Text Mining, in the field of analyzing comments left on the booking.com portal and a diagnostic survey using an interview questionnaire addressed to hotel managers. In terms of quantitative assessment (on a scale of 1–10), of the hotels in Lublin included (Focus, Locomotiva, Victoria and Willowa), the Focus Hotel was rated highest (mean score of 8.8). Considering all hotels, in qualitative assessment, the following variables received the most positive opinions: level of service and cleanliness of room (in Focus, Victoria and Locomotiva hotels), location (in Victoria Hotel). Almost half of all negative comments concerned the parking area. The survey conducted with managers shows that the comments of guests have a large influence on the changes implemented in the hotels (e.g., breakfast serving time in Willowa Hotel or extension of buffet offer in Locomotiva Hotel). The contextual analysis method, which can be equivalent to the SERVQUAL method, is of particular research value especially under the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic when it is impossible to conduct interviews in person.

Opis:
Stemming from assumption that Gross Domestic Product is an index oversimplifying economic development and not reflecting socio-economic development, the paper presents conceptualization, operationalization and estimation of Balanced Development Index (BDI), concerning both economic and social development in Poland. Actual values of this index as well as its four composite components (middle-level indexes) are presented for 1999-2013. A statistical model allowing estimation of BDI values as well as short-term forecasts is proposed alongside with the concept of balanced development. Application of this model for 1999-2016 is presented.

Opis:
The article deals with evaluations of submissions to a linguistics journal considering whether or not they represent a specific communicative genre. Following the theory of communicative genres developed in the sociology of knowledge, “genre” is used here not only in reference to the evaluation texts themselves but, rather, it is applied to the communicative action as a whole: “genre” is a pre-patterned and complex solution to recurrent communicative problems. Elements of a genre can be located on three structural levels: the level of internal structure (language, style, topics etc.), the level of external structure (social context) and the interactional or situational level, which serves as a link between the other two levels. Analysis of evaluations seeks to determine how changes on the external, social level (more reviewers from more institutions) and the interactional level (the double-blind review process) manifest themselves in the internal (textual) level. Another sub-topic is the relationship between the analyzed evaluations and the norms of scientific or scholarly style.
W artykule analizowane są recenzje prac złożonych do publikacji w czasopiśmie językoznawczym, stanowiące osobny gatunek komunikacyjny. Zgodnie z teorią gatunków komunikacyjnych rozwijaną w socjologii nauki – pojęcie gatunku nie odnosi się tu do samych tekstów, lecz obejmuje działania komunikacyjne ujęte całościowo: gatunek stanowi przedwstępnie ustrukturowane kompleksowe rozwiązanie powtarzalnych problemów komunikacyjnych. Działanie to przebiega na trzech płaszczyznach: na płaszczyźnie wewnętrznej (język, styl, tematyka), na płaszczyźnie zewnętrznej (poziom kontekstu społecznego), na płaszczyźnie interakcyjnej, która pośredniczy między strukturą zewnętrzną i wewnętrzną. Analiza recenzji ukierunkowana jest na ustalenie, w jaki sposób zmiany na płaszczyźnie zewnętrznej, społecznej (większa liczby recenzentów z liczniejszych instytucji) i interakcyjnej (obustronna anonimowość postępowania recenzenckiego) przejawiają się na płaszczyźnie tekstowej (kształtowanie autora i adresata). Kolejnym tematem szczegółowym jest zależność analizowanych recenzji od norm stylu naukowego.
Der Aufsatz befasst sich mit den Gutachten für eine linguistische Fachzeitschrift als einer spezifischen Textsorte. Die Kategorie der Textsorte wird dabei nicht nur auf die Texte selbst appliziert, sondern sie wird in Anlehung an die Theorie der Kommunikationstextsorten in der Wissenssoziologie auf einen bestimmten Typ der Handlung als Ganzes bezogen: die Textsorte ist eine vorstrukturierte und komplexe Lösung für sich wiederholende Kommunikationsprobleme. Diese Handlung wird auf drei Ebenen strukturiert: auf der inneren (sprachlichen und inhaltlichen) Ebene, auf der äußeren Ebene, d. h. der Ebene des sozialen Kontextes, und auf der Interaktionsebene, die als ein Zwischenglied zwischen der inneren und äußeren Ebene aufritt. Die Analyse der einzelnen Textsorten konzentriert sich vor allem darauf, wie sich die Veränderungen auf der äußeren, sozialen Ebene (eine größere Anzahl von Gutachtern aus verschiedenen Institutionen) sowie auf der Interaktionsebene (beiderseitige Anonymität des Peer-Review-Verfahrens) auf der Textebene bemerkbar machen (die Gestaltung des Autoren- und Adressatensubjekts). Ein weiteres Thema bildet die Beziehung der analysierten Gutachten zu den Normen des Fachstils.
