    Christmas is one of the most important holidays not only for Christians, but also for people not associated with this religion. For some it is a holy time, referring to the sphere of the sacred, for others a period of family or group meetings, for others simply a time of winter rest. However, it is experienced in the context of events and signs whose origin is Christian. Today, these signs and events are given different meanings, often different from the culture from which they originated. This article is about the specifics of celebrating Christmas in Poland, Austria and Italy, based on children’s drawings. When analyzing visual performances, the area of the image itself was adopted, i.e. the content and form of drawings of children at a younger school age. In particular, an attempt was made to diagnose dominant symbols related to the celebration of Christmas in Polish, Austrian and Italian families.

    Drawing is for a child a form of play and a way of free expression. At the same time, it is an opportunity to develop imagination, creativity, and knowledge about the surrounding world. For psychologists and therapists, a child’s drawing, as part of the projection methods used, is a source of knowledge about its emotions, personality, and situation. Also, the marketing specialists make use of projection techniques, including projection drawings, for instance, to study the behaviors of youngest consumers. The article aims to present the way of using the projection method, such as a drawing analysis during the educational workshops and for qualitative research conducted among the youngest. In the first part of the article, the subject literature on projection techniques, in particular on a drawing analysis is reviewed. In the further part, the stages of a child’s drawing development along with their characteristics are presented. The last section illustrates the proposals for the use of a projection drawing as part of the workshop work with children and an example of such activities are given. It should be emphasized that the use of projection methods requires educators to possess knowledge, sensitivity, and caution in the interpretation. Children’s drawings differ concerning their artistic talents, age, stage of development and symbols used. The proper understanding of the last sphere is a very complex process.

    Values in everyone’s life are an integral part of their existence. They guide their actions. They influence the decisions made. They help interpret their own behaviors and actions of others. Preschool age is a period when moral development begins, there are things that are more or less important to the child. It is therefore worth discovering what is important to preschool children. In order to learn about the values that are important to preschool children, a study was conducted involving 70 six-year-old children attending selected Bialystok kindergartens and preschool departments. The method used in the study was the analysis of work products and the tool was drawing analysis. The study took place during the children’s stay at the facility. The data obtained allowed to answer the research problem: What values do six-year-old children consider important in their lives? The most important value for the children surveyed is family. Then play, toys and God as the creator of the world. The empirical data obtained can be a valuable source of information, allowing to adjust the education and upbringing process in such a way as to respond to the child’s nearest area of development.
    Wartości w życiu każdego człowieka stanowią nieodłączny element jego egzystencji. Ukierunkowują jego działanie. Wpływają na podejmowane decyzje. Pomagają interpretować własne zachowania i działania innych osób. Wiek przedszkolny jest okresem, w którym rozpoczyna się kształtowanie moralności, istnieją rzeczy mniej lub bardziej istotne dla dziecka. Warte odkrycia jest zatem to, co dla dzieci w okresie przedszkolnym jest ważne. W celu poznania wartości istotnych dla dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym przeprowadzono badania, którymi objęto 70 dzieci sześcioletnich uczęszczających do wybranych białostockich przedszkoli i oddziałów przedszkolnych. Zastosowaną w badaniach metodą była analiza wytworów pracy, a narzędziem – analiza rysunku. Badanie odbyło się w trakcie pobytu dzieci w placówce. Uzyskane dane pozwoliły odpowiedzieć na postawiony problem badawczy: Jakie wartości badane dzieci sześcioletnie uznają za ważne w swoim życiu? Najistotniejszą wartością dla badanych dzieci jest rodzina; następnie zabawa, zabawki oraz Bóg jako stworzyciel świata. Uzyskane dane empiryczne mogą być cennym źródłem informacji, pozwalającym dostosować proces kształcenia i wychowania w taki sposób, aby odpowiadał on sferze najbliższego rozwoju dziecka.

    Dla pedagoga rysunek dziecięcy jest bezcennym źródłem wiedzy o dziecku – jego myśleniu, emocjach i sytuacji rodzinnej. Rysunki dzieci różnią się między sobą w zależności od wieku, poziomu rozwoju, emocji i pragnień oraz relacji rodzinnych, a poprzez te różnice można się o dziecku bardzo dużo dowiedzieć i – co za tym idzie – skuteczniej mu pomagać. Szczególnie znaczący jest sposób przedstawienia postaci ludzkiej, który zmienia się na poszczególnych etapach rozwoju (bazgroty, głowonogi, schematy, realizm), a także w zależności od przeżyć wewnętrznych dziecka i jego sytuacji rodzinnej. Ze względu na owe różnice w sposobie rysowania rysunek pozwala na zorientowanie się, czy poziom wykonania jest adekwatny do wieku dziecka, a także na poznanie jego sfery emocjonalnej. Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie różnorodności rysunków dziecięcych. Oparty jest na literaturze przedmiotu i badaniach własnych oraz uzupełniony przykładami rysunków zaczerpniętych ze zbiorów autorki. Interpretacja rysunku jest trudna, gdyż posługuje się wskaźnikami wynikającymi z badań porównujących rysunki różnych grup, a także opiera się na mechanizmie projekcji i symbolach. To podejście zupełnie inne niż w skalach kwestionariuszowych i ankietach, odwołujących się do samoopisu
    For an educator or a researcher, children’s drawings are an invaluable source of knowledge about them – their thinking, emotions and family situation. Children’s drawings vary depending on age, their level of development, emotions and desires, and family relations, and through these differences one can learn a lot and hence be able to help them more effectively. Especially significant is the presentation of the human form, which varies at different stages of development (scribbles, cephalopods, diagrams, realism), and also depends on the internal experiences of the children and their family situation. Because of these differences in expression, the interpretation of a drawing allows to learn wherever the level of performance is adequate for the child’s age, and also to get to know his or her emotional sphere. The aim of the article is to present the diversity of children’s drawings. It is based on both the relevant academic literature and the author’s own studies and is supplemented by examples of drawings drawn from the collection of the author. Interpretation of the drawings is difficult because it requires using indicators coming from the comparisons of the drawings of the various groups and is based on a mechanism of the projection and on symbols. It is a completely different approach than in questionnaires and polls based on self-description.

    At the beginning of the chapter, the theory regarding developmental needs in relation to the situation of children at a younger school age was presented. In the further part of the work, a description of own research was presented – the presentation of the procedure along with a description of the research tools developed and used. The summary contains preliminary conclusions from own research.
    We wstępie do artykułu zaprezentowano teorię dotyczącą potrzeb rozwojowych w odniesieniu do sytuacji dziecka w młodszym wieku szkolnym. W dalszej części pracy zamieszczony został opis badań własnych – prezentacja procedury wraz z opisem opracowanych i wykorzystanych narzędzi badawczych. W podsumowaniu zamieszczone zostały wstępne wnioski z badań.
