Opis:
Purpose: The main purpose of this study to analyze the coordination, propulsion and non-propulsion phases in the 100 meters breaststroke race. Methods: Twenty-seven male swimmers (15.7±1.98 years old) with the total body length (TBL) of 247.0±10.60 [cm] performed an all-out 100m breaststroke bout. The bouts were recorded with an underwater camera installed on a portable trolley. The swimming kinematic parameters, stroke rate (SR) and stroke length (SL), as well as the coordination indices based on propulsive or non-propulsive movement phases of the arms and legs were distinguished. Results: Swimming speed (V 100surface breast ) was associated with SL (R=0.41, p<0.05) and with TBL tending towards statistical significance (R=0.36, p<0.07), all relationships between the selected variables in the study were measured using partial correlations with controlled age. SL interplayed negatively with the limbs propulsive phase Overlap indicator (R=-0.46, p<0.05), but has no significant relationship to the non-propulsion Glide indicator. Conclusions: The propulsion in-sweep (AP3) phase of arms and their non-propulsion partial air recovery (ARair) phase interplayed with V 100surface breast (R=0.51, p<0.05 and 0.48 p<0.05) respectively, displaying the importance of proper execution of this phase (AP3) and in reducing the resistance recovery phases in consecutive ones.

Opis:
Nearly 27 000 individuals of 10 species belonging to the Carabus genus were caught on over 160 research plots in 13 different habitats in the Białowieża Primeval Forest, Poland. The body length of eight species was analysed. The mean body length ratio of two adjacent species ranged between 1.00−1.10, irrespective of the number of the number of Carabus species in the assemblage. The mean ratio of the smallest to the largest species increased with the number of species in the assemblage. To study coexistence mechanisms further, automatic traps were used to catch carabid beetles in decaying stumps and tree holes. In tree holes, the species C. hortensis was caught in the greatest numbers. Morphological differences and ecological preferences suggest spatio−temporal niche partitioning as the main coexistence mechanism for Carabus species in this forest.

Opis:
A large lobopod, Jianshanopodia decora gen. et sp. nov., with body length (excluding appendages) about 220 mm from the Lower Cambrian Haikou section, near Kunming, Yunnan, southwest China, shows a mixture of characters, including features of the lobopod Xenusion Pompeckj, 1927, e.g., a large cylindrical body with annulations, stout and strong lobopod appendages each bearing bases of serial tubercles, and of Aysheaia Walcott, 1911, i.e., a pair of large frontal appendages. This suggests that the new genus might be a connecting link between Xenusion and Aysheaia. Besides, Jianshanopodia shares some features with the Early Cambrian stem group arthropod Pambdelurion Budd, 1997, and Kerygmachela Budd, 1993, e.g., the pairs of mid−gut diverticula, the possible presence of tail fan, the mouth cone, the frontal pharyngeal structures and the pharynax are surrounded by the bases of the large frontal appendages. However, compared with a series of segmentally arranged, imbricating, paddle−shaped, movable lateral flaps of both Pambdelurion and Kerygmachela, Jianshanopodia possesses distinct complex appendages with tree−like or lamellate branches. The discovery of this rare transitional form not only throws new light on the early diversification of lobopods, and may also have significance with respect to the origin of arthropods.

This article aims to show how the weight and length of newborn babies depend on gestational age and mother's age. The study focused on the babies born in 2011-2012 in a hospital in Krosno (the Podkarpackie Voivodeship). Only live born children, born between the 38th and 42nd weeks of pregnancy, and with birth weight over 2500 g were taken into account. The results obtained allow stating that boys are on average heavier and longer than girls. The duration of pregnancy between the 38th and 42nd weeks is associated with an increase of birth weight and length of the body in the subsequent weeks of gestational age. In the case of boys, birth body weight and body length increase with mother's age.

Opis:
The axial soft−tissue system in the neck of Dicraeosauridae and Diplodocidae, including pneumatic diverticula, ligaments, and muscles, is reconstructed on the basis of phylogenetic and functional morphological comparisons with extant crocodylians and birds and compared with other soft−tissue reconstructions for sauropods. Bifurcation of the neural spines separated the paired supraspinal ligament into two sheets. A paired interspinal septum was attached to the cranial and caudal margins of the neural spines. The dorsal and the lateral portions of the cervical musculature must have been strongly segmented, whereas the laterocostal portion was divided with one myoseptum per vertebral segment. The hypaxial cervical muscle was most probably small and only poorly segmented. In Diplodocidae and Dicraeosauridae, the distribution of external pneumatic structures is similar, whereas only Diplodocidae possess intraosseous pneumatic structures. Supravertebral pneumatic diverticula are reconstructed for both groups, which, together with dorsal ligaments filled the gap between the metapophyses of bifurcate neural spines. Comparisons between the vertebrae of juvenile and adult diplodocids strongly indicate that pneumatisation proceeded from the supramedullary diverticula into the neural arch and the neural spine. The regular branching pattern of the pneumatic cavities as well as the vertical I−beam construction of the vertebral corpora is interpreted as a consequence of the biomechanical constraints of the vertebral corpora in diplodocids. These reconstructions form the ground for functional morphological considerations in Diplodocidae and Dicraeosauridae while addressing the possible mechanical consequences of pneumatic structures for the integrity of the support system of the neck.

Opis:
Quantitative expressions are presented describing the potential reproductive rate per individual female of Pseudocalanus spp. in several different waters (not reduced by food limitation) as a function of both temperature and cephalothorax length of females (one equation for each studied region). The calculations were made for some geographically separate populations of Pseudocalanus spp. from southwest Baffin Island, Nova Scotia, Long Island Sound, Scotland, as well as the southern North Sea and its adjacent waters (e.g. the English Channel). On the basis of the findings presented in this work and from other studies, the reproductive rate was computed as the mean number of eggs per sac divided by 1.25 times the embryonic duration at the given temperature. Also computed was the amount of egg matter produced per day as a percentage of body carbon (and dry weight) of female weight for all localities. The relationships for females from the southern North Sea were obtained for ‘viable eggs’, but they should be treated with reserve. A more suitable expression describing egg production in the southern North Sea is the equation for females from the English Channel obtained here. Our assumptions and approximations appear to predict quite well the temperature-length of female dependent daily rates of egg production of well-fed females of Pseudocalanus spp. for the above waters, and we suggest that they can be used to test the hypothesis more thoroughly.

Different approaches to quantum gravity proposal such as string theory, doubly special relativity, and also black holes physics, all commonly address the existence of a minimal measurable length of the order of the Planck length. One way to apply the minimal length is changing the Heisenberg algebra in the phase space which is known as the generalized uncertainty principle. It is essential to apply this feature on the statistical mechanics of many body systems in the presence of a measurable minimal length scale in order to see the roles of this natural cutoff on physical phenomena. In this paper, some details of statistical mechanics of many body systems that have not been studied carefully in literature are studied in the presence of minimal length scale. The issues such as isomerization, the Liouville theorem, virial theorem and equipartition theorem are studied in this setup with details and the results are explained thoroughly.

The monograph is devoted to studies of the problem of a macroscopic body known as the soccer-ball problem in the frame of different deformed algebras leading to space quantization. It is shown that this problem can be solved in a deformed space with a minimal length, in a noncommutative phase space, in a space with a Lie-algebraic noncommutativity, in a twist-deformed space-time due to the relation of parameters of corresponding algebras with mass. In addition, we conclude that this relation gives a possibility to obtain a list of important results in quantum space including recovering the weak equivalence principle, preserving the properties of the kinetic energy, obtaining the Galilean and Lorentz transformations independent of the mass of the particle.

The work covers the adequate kinetics of the flexibly fixed working element of a rotating device. First the literature background of the problem has been presented, turning the attention on such systems where the phenomenon of centrifugal displacement of a body due to the rotating of the system occurs. Then the general characteristics of the complex motion of working element has been described. The core of the work is the description of the variable component motions, with the starting point of the description being the source differential equation, presenting this type of dependence of the path length on time. The accelerated angular motion and retarded radial motion have been separated, describing these component motions as the function of time. Based on these detailed descriptions, the trajectory equation of working element, the derivatives and further kinetic magnitudes, have been derived. In the conclusion, the cognitive and practical qualities of the presented solutions of the title problem, have been accented.

The fish were acquired from October to November 2012. Mercury was analyzed by atomic absorption spectrometry using thermal decomposition, compounds of mercury and amalgamation. The mercury content in fish organs reached 0.006-0.168 (in mg kgˉ¹ wet weight) in muscles, 0.001-0.027 in gills and 0.003-0.045 in the liver. The muscles of perch and ide had significantly more Hg compared to the other fish’s muscles (P≤0.05). The liver and gills of perch, ide and flounder contained more Hg than the same tissues of the other fish (P≤0.05). Generally, the highest Hg content was determined in muscles (except rainbow trout) (P≤0.05), whereas the lowest Hg content was found in gills (except perch) (P≤0.05). The content of Hg in gills of perch did not differ from the one in the liver (P>0.05). There was a positive correlation between the weight or length of a fish and the Hg concentration in its tissues, except for the length and Hg in the gills of carp. However, a statistically significant positive correlation between the body weight and the Hg levels in fish appeared only in the case of the organs of ide (P≤0.004) and muscles of carp (P≤0.038). The correlation between the factor condition and the content of Hg, albeit positive (0.106 < r < 0.811) except for the organs of flounder, was not statistically significant (P>0.05).

The paper aims at the kinetics of a body under free fall, especially free body motion, the motion occurring in the Earth environs space, that is in the range of the gravity action. A new adequate theory of such a motion, opening new not known kinetic magnitudes, has been elaborated. This theory has its source, which is the dependence of the way length on time. That is the way characteristics created in this work. The worked out theory has been verified by experiment, referred to two different realities. One of them was the body motion in the air environment of the Earth environs space, with the second one occurring in a determined machining space-time. The adequate earth acceleration/gravity has been calculated taking advantage of the theory elaborated; and its value, as indicated, is equal 3.85 mźs-2. Two kinds of accelerations have been separated: inertial and gravitational. The relations occurring between their values on the neighbouring potential fields, unstable, and stable, have been discovered. That discovery indicates on the existence of quantum nature of gravitation.
