Main objective of screening is to separate a group of grains, which dimensions fall within the specified limits, from the given feed. A large number of sieve and screening machines designs is available. During screening of granular materials in industry, sieve holes are often blocked. The phenomenon of screen blocking involves grains of varying sizes and geometries being clogged in sieve holes. This significantly decreases the screening efficiency. The mechanism of sieve holes blocking is largely random. A dry and contamination-free granular material with 0.1-2.5 mm size was screened in this study. The grains with spherical (agalite and chromium stainless shot), sharp-edged (aggregate) and irregular (quartz sand) were used in screen tests under various conditions. Screening tests included both intermittent, as well as continuous screening. Identification on blocking of sieve holes was conducted using vibrating devices and a rotary and drum screen with a cone-shaped sieve. This paper specifies the main operational parameters of these machines that had remarkable influence on the blocking of sieve holes.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to describe the process of sieve holes blocking. A series of tests and their results revealed a dependence describing the value of an average screen blocking coefficient as a function of two main factors affecting the process. These parameters are the toss indicator and the content of difficult-to-screen particles in the feed. The experiments presented in the paper showed that description in mathematical terms of the sieve holes blocking process is complex and difficult. A third degree polynomial function with two variables enables determination of the value of an average screen blocking coefficient in the processes of screening for specific arrangements: screen–particle–toss indicator–content of difficult-to-screen particles.

Introduction and aim. Blue light is part of the natural light spectrum and plays a role in regulating the circadian rhythm. However, with the increasing use of electronic devices and energy-efficient lighting emitting high levels of artificial blue light, concerns are raised regarding its potential effect on human health. Blue-blocking filters have been developed and are advertised as a solution to be used in spectacles or intraocular lenses. This review aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the use of blue-blocking filters based on the results of clinical trials. Material and methods. This review included relevant original papers reporting on clinical trial results from PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases using specified keywords. Analysis of the literature. Trials conducted with patients reveal mixed results, with some showing no significant changes in vision and reading abilities, while others indicating potential limitations such as reduced contrast vision. However, blue-blocking filters have demonstrated potential benefits in improving sleep quality and mood, particularly in patients with sleep disturbances or psychiatric disorders. The efficacy of blue-blocking filters in mitigating symptoms of digital eye strain remains inconclusive. Conclusion. Overall, this paper provides a comprehensive assessment of the benefits and limitations associated with the use of blue-blocking filters, highlighting the need for further investigation in certain areas.

The human sera often contain substances which interfere in the course of immunochemical reactions. It is essential for the control sera used to determine concentrations of antigen of the prostate not to contain such ingredients. The aim of this study was to test the control sera, three producers, containing low (N) and high (P) concentrations of prostate antigen (tPSA). As a factor blocking the interfering actions, the TRU Bloc Meridian Life Science, Inc. reagent was used which contains antibodies against mouse protein and rheumatoid factor. The sera with a low concentration of tPSA demonstrated the presence of interfering substances.

Opis:
Recent development in optical networking employing wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) fulfills the high bandwidth demand applications. Failure of such networks, leads to enormous data and revenue loss. Protection is one of the key techniques, which is used in designing survivable WDM networks. In this paper we compare dedicated and shared protection strategies employed inWDMmesh networks to protect optical networks failure, particularly fiber failure. Dijkstra's shortest path algorithm is considered for carrying out simulations. The paper compares the performance of protection schemes, such as, dedicated path protection (DPP), shared path protection (SPP) and shared link protection (SLP) schemes. Capacity utilization, switching time and blocking probability are the parameters considered to measure the performance of the protection schemes. Simulation results show that, SPP is more efficient in terms of capacity utilization over DPP and SLP schemes, whereas, SLP offered better switching time than both DPP and SPP schemes. The average call drop rate is minimum for shared path protection scheme and maximum for shared link protection scheme.

In this paper we consider a link, characterized by specific capacity, that services multi-rate random or quasirandom traffic. Random traffic is generated by an infinite number of traffic sources, while quasi-random traffic is generated by a finite population of traffic sources. The link is modeled as a multi-rate loss system. Handover and new calls are distinguished. New calls compete for the available bandwidth under a threshold call admission policy. In that policy, a new call of a particular service-class is not allowed to enter the system if the in-service handover and new calls of the same service-class plus the new call, exceed a predefined threshold (which can be different for each service-class). On the other hand, handover calls compete for the available bandwidth based on the complete sharing policy. We show that the steady state probabilities in the proposed models have a product form solution (PFS). The PFS leads to a convolution algorithm for accurate calculation of congestion probabilities and link utilization.

We consider a two-link system that accommodates Poisson arriving calls from different service-classes and propose a multirate teletraffic loss model for its analysis. Each link has two thresholds, which refer to the number of in-service calls in the link. The lowest threshold, named support threshold, defines up to which point the link can support calls offloaded from the other link. The highest threshold, named offloading threshold, defines the point where the link starts offloading calls to the other link. The adopted bandwidth sharing policy is the complete sharing policy, in which a call can be accepted in a link if there exist enough available bandwidth units. The model does not have a product form solution for the steady state probabilities. However, we propose approximate formulas, based on a convolution algorithm, for the calculation of call blocking probabilities. The accuracy of the formulas is verified through simulation and found to be quite satisfactory.

The notions of invariant, decoupling and blocking zeros are extended to the fractional linear systems. It is shown that: 1) The zeros are closely connected with the controllability and observability of the linear systems and their transfer functions matrices. 2) The state vector of the fractional system for any input and zero initial conditions is independent of the input decoupling zeros of the system. 3) The output of the fractional system for any input and zero initial conditions is independent of the input-output decoupling zeros of the system.

We consider a two-link communication system with restricted accessibility that services Poisson arriving calls of many service-classes and propose a multirate teletraffic loss model for its analysis. In a restricted accessibility system, call blocking occurs even if available resources do exist at the time of a call’s arrival. In the two-link system under consideration, each link has two thresholds (offloading and support) which express the in-service calls in a link. The offloading threshold represents the point from which a link offloads calls. The support threshold (which is lower than the offloading threshold) defines the point up to which a link supports offloaded calls. The two-link system with restricted accessibility is modeled as a loss system whose steady state probabilities do not have a product form solution. However, approximate formulas for the determination of call blocking probabilities are proposed. In addition, we also provide a corresponding analysis related to the case of quasi-random traffic (i.e. traffic generated by a finite number of users). The accuracy of all formulas is verified through simulation and is found to be quite satisfactory.

The final purpose of our research is to cripple the epileptogenic focus by laser irradiation. However, the effect of laser irradiation on brain nerves is not well known. In this paper, we observed laser irradiation to the transmission of action potential of a bullfrog sciatic nerve in the experiment. In addition the marginal amplitude of laser energy is obtained. The bullfrog nerve preparations were stimulated supramaximal intensity pulse. The pulse width and the pulse interval are 1 msec and 1 sec, respectively. A semiconductor pulse laser irradiation (the wavelength, the pulse width and the frequency are 808 nm, 990 µsec and 50 Hz, respectively) was employed until when the amplitude of the action potential decreases to 10 %. The laser light was irradiated to the portion between two electrode pairs for recording. The energy of the laser is variable between 13.9- 202.5 mJ/cm2. The laser irradiator is connected to an optical fiber whose diameter is 1 mm. The action potential of the sciatic nerve is observed at 1 day after in order to confirm irreversibility. The experiment was delivered by the laser pulse, the energy of which over 32.9 mJ/cm2. The peak of action potential was decreased gradually by laser irradiation with depending on the time of irradiation. The time to blocking is reciprocally proportional to laser energy. At a day after the experiment, the action potential was not recovered. This result shows the laser irradiation give irreversible blocking to polar excitations. We observed the frog sciatic nerve is damaged by laser irradiation. The results show a possibility that the epileptogenic focus can be crippled by laser irradiation. We are going to have more experiments and obtain important laser parameters. In the future, the experiment and the result are expanded using rat brain and applied human surgery.

Creativity is an important quality that has been linked with problem solving, achievement, and scientific advancement. It has previously been proposed that creative individuals pay greater attention to and are able to utilize information that others may consider irrelevant, in order to generate creative ideas (e.g., Eysenck, 1995). In this study we investigated whether there was a relationship between creativity and greater learning about irrelevant information. To answer this question, we used a self-report measure of creative ideation and a blocking task, which involved learning about irrelevant stimuli. We failed to find evidence for this association, with a Bayes Factor indicating support for no relationship between these measures. While it is possible that a different measure of creative ideation, for example one which does not rely on self-report, may produce different results, a more lucrative research direction may be focusing on the link between creativity and cognitive flexibility, in line with suggestions by Zabelina and Robinson (2010).

Fabrication of electro-conductive fiber is a novel process. Nanocomposites of multiwall carbon nanotube/polyamide66 were produced by electrospinning with different amounts of multiwall carbon nanotube. Field emission scanning electron microscope and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy of samples proved the existence of multiwall carbon nanotube distribution in polyamide 66 nanofibers. Results showed that electro conductivity of electrospun multiwall carbon nanotube/polyamide 66 nano fiber has increased in comparison with electrospun polyamide 66. Moreover, UV blocking of samples was investigated which has shown that using multiwall carbon nanotube in polyamide 66 increases UV blocking of fibers. Furthermore, anti-bacterial activity of nanocomposite showed that these nanocomposites have antibacterial property against both Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli bacteria according to AATCC test method.

In the text a critical reflection is undertaken on the evaluation of school assessment systems treated as a social category, “pulsating” due to its relation to its changeable context. Analyses have revealed an extensive realm of reduction of meanings and values carried out in the course of assessment systems creation and design, and throughout performance of their evaluation. One of the effects of those actions is dissonance between records in documents and their practical dimension. In turn, the picture of school reality, simplified and subjected to external evaluation procedures, does not so much block a change it does not make it possible to recognise its need should it not fall within the need to meet uniform requirements of the state regarding education. The same logic results in internal evaluation in the school assessment system being granted the status of undisputed yardstick for the educational reality, which, should such a need arise, must be changed for them to better match the procedures formulated in the document. The text concludes with a question on the need of assessment and values connected with it, the reading of which in the context of specified horizon of meanings may prevent assessment systems from their axiological dimension being reduced, or solidify the current form confined to a set of procedures, whose deeper sense is not reflected on by anyone at school. The latter option does not imply elimination of problems with assessment but those problems remaining unspoken of and their further increase.
