Opis:
The paper describes a new method for forming grinding media balls from scrap rail heads. This forming method involves the following operations: cutting the rail head to the desired length combined with lateral pressing of the produced workpiece; flashless die forging and sizing of balls in a helical impression. The proposed method was verified by numerical simulation which involved the modeling of a forming process for producing 80 mm diameter balls. As a result of the modeling, it was possible to examine the changes in the workpiece shape during each forming operation, the variations in loads and torques, as well as the distribution of temperatures enabling performing another forming operation, i.e. quenching. The results confirm that the designed method can be used to produce balls.

Opis:
This paper presents an innovative helical rolling process of balls destined for mills manufac¬tured from a scrapped rail head. In this process, helical rolls are applied, whose construction allows obtaining a cylindrical bar, and later balls are formed from this bar in the further stage of the process. It is advised to precede the rolling process by side pressing leading to increase of billet material shape compactness. Verification of the assumed solution correctness was made using numerical sim¬ulation, with the application of Simufact.Forming software.

Opis:
This paper presents the research results of the balls rolling process according to the conventional and modified methods of rolling. Theoretical analysis was carried out by using numerical methods based on the Finite Element Method. The Simufact package version 10.0 were used for calculation. Simulations of balls rolling were carried out under conditions of 3D state of strain, taking into account the effect of thermal conditions occurring during forming. The study of the achieved results showed that the best rolling process parameters were obtained for the modified method, in which the feed material is heated up to 1150 °C. In this case, the rolling parameters such as: rolling force and torque as well as tool wear reached the smallest values.

Opis:
Raw materials produced in large quantities are ground in ball, vibratory and stirred ball mills. In mills, the working parts are grinding balls. During grinding, grinding balls wear, change their diameter and lose their shape. The effect of this is the unfavourable change in the grinding balls parameters, which results in deterioration of the technological conditions of the milling process. Relevant parameters of the grinding balls set are restored during maintenance shutdowns. Grinding balls are sorted into appropriate size classes; grinding balls that are not suitable for further use are rejected, and then a set of grinding balls with appropriate parameters is used again. The time needed to prepare the required set depends mainly on the sorting time. To reduce this time, appropriate grinding balls sorting machines are used. The paper presents major problems associated with the grinding balls sorting process, a comparison of modern types of grinding balls sorting machines, a description of their construction and technological parameters.

Opis:
The paper describes the design of a flat-wedge reversing mill used for forming balls directly from heads of scrap railway rails. At the beginning an innovative rolling method for producing balls is presented. This two-stage method consists in forming balls from heads of scrap railway rails using plate-shaped flat tools. The first stage involves preparation of a workpiece by changing the irregular shape of the rail head into a round bar. Next, the workpiece is automatically moved to the working space of the other tool set, where forgings of balls are formed on return motion of the slide. To enable the production of balls under industrial conditions in accordance with the above concept, a flat-wedge rolling mill was designed and constructed. The results demonstrate that the machine can be used to produce balls from heads of scrap railway rails.

Opis:
Naphthalene poisoning is an uncommon poisoning due to its pungent smell, taste, insolubility in water, and poor absorption from the gut following exposure to naphthalene-containing compounds such as mothballs. Paradichlorobenzene has been reported to dissolve more quickly in alcohol. Within a period of 48-96 hours following naphthalene mothball exposure patient presents with acute onset of non-bloody bilious vomiting, dark brown urine and watery diarrhoea. We present a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge while treating a 27 years old male admitted to the intensive care unit with features of acute naphthalene-toxicity, methemoglobinemia and acute kidney injury following accidental ingestion of mothballs and ethyl alcohol. His vital signs at the time of intensive care unit admission included fever, tachycardia, and hypotension, and his laboratory workup demonstrates hyperbilirubinemia with indirect predominance, hemolytic anaemia, methemoglobinemia, and renal dysfunction. Treatment options include supportive care, red cell transfusion, ascorbic acid, methylene blue, and N-acetylcysteine. The importance of obtaining a careful history and clinical findings is of paramount importance, especially in making the right diagnosis and a successful outcome largely depends on it.

This paper presents the results of metallographic research studies carried out for stock materials as well as the samples collected from the balls formed in the rolling process in a skew rolling mill. The stock material was bearing steel 100Cr6 and the steel from rail scrap. The rolling process was carried out in parallel for the two assumptions: the conventional method (hereinafter referred to as conventional rolling) and the modified method (hereinafter referred to as modified rolling). After the rolling process, three cooling media were used: air, water and oil. The pictures below, which depict microstructures, were taken using the bright-field and the dark-field microscopy technique, the samples were etched with a 4% solution of picral.

Comparative analysis of thermomechanical properties of polyamide and polyamide composites with addition of 30% of glass balls was performed. The specimens were obtained using the injection moulding technology by means of KraussMaffei KM65-160C1 injection moulding machine. The non-filled polyamide and part of components were injected using the parameters recommended by the manufacturer. A reduced value of mould cooling temperature was used for the other non-filled specimens. The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hardness testing, impact strength testing, bending resistance and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA) were also performed.

This paper presents a rare oceanographic phenomenon which is the formation of ice balls. The uniqueness of this phenomenon is the fact that the ice balls on the Hel Spit (Hel Peninsula) are formed in conditions of salt water. So far formations of ice balls most often observed and described have occurred in fresh water regions.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to sum up the experiences gained during twelve-year research on effects of using educational balls called ‘edubal’ in PE classes in grades 1 to 3 of the primary school (i.e. children aged 7 to 10). The research was carried out in Poland an in Germany. The authors focused their attention on objectives and tasks of contemporary education of children aged 7 to 10 – first of all supporting and stimulating comprehensive development of children, especially with regard to improving coordinative motor abilities which determine, inter alia, reading and writing skills. Employment of ‘edubal’ education balls in early school education (grades 1 to 3 of the primary school) activates cognitive, emotional and physical spheres of a child and hence contributes to the integration of the subject content. The children while participating in PE classes with the use of education balls learn about letters, spelling rules, colours, mathematical signs and punctuation marks as well as numerous rules which are useful in linguistic and mathematical education and they shape their coordination abilities and improve physical skills. Moreover, they also develop their coordination abilities. ‘Edubal’ education balls have a much wider scope of application than it was the case twelve years ago. They are also used in occupational therapy of disabled persons and in work with dyslectic children who attend therapeutic schools.
