One of the crucial stages of the Apostle Paul’s ministry was his stay at Ephesus. However, considering the fact that the reliability of some data in the Acts of the Apostles on the time of Paul’s arrival to Ephesus is nowadays frequently put into question, it has become necessary to investigate the issue. In the present article the author assesses the relevant source material and takes a stand on the particular opinions of contemporary interpreters of the subject. Based on an analysis of the text of the Acts of the Apostles he is led to conclude that Luke’s account of Paul’s first short visit to Ephesus reveals traits of historicity.

W artykule przedstawiono pogląd, że sumienie jest zasadniczym czynnikiem konstytuującym na- turę ludzką. Sumienie podzielone jest na wspólne wszystkim ludziom i niezmienne sumienie uni- wersalne oraz sumienie indywidualne, które jest kształtowane w każdym człowieku przez czynniki wewnętrzne i zewnętrzne. Pogląd ten porównany jest z nowotestamentowym poglądem na sumienie zaprezentowanym przede wszystkim przez apostoła Pawła.

The Acts of the Apostles describes – sometimes in rather colorful details – signs and wonders wrought by the apostle Paul. Can this portrait of the apostle be corroborated based on his own letters? Or do we have to conclude that contemporaries of the apostle paint a more or less hagiographic picture of Paul’s miraculous activities? What is the place of miracles surrounding Paul and wrought by him within the whole of his life and mission?  A survey of Paul’s letters allows us to get a view of how the apostle sees the function of signs, wonders, and mighty works within the dynamics of the proclamation of the gospel. Viewed in this way, the possible difference between information based upon Paul’s own communication and that of his contemporaries about him appears to decrease. A clearer picture of the part miracles play within the whole of Paul’s mission may also help to rethink modern and post-modern worldviews from a biblical perspective.

Paul the Apostle left behind a unique legacy in the form of letters written to the ekklesia, including those founded by him in Galatia, Macedonia, Thessaly and Achaia. An important issue in the proto-Pauline texts of the Corpus Paulinum is the phenomenon of prophecy. In addition to recognizing the divine inspiration of the OT prophetic books, discovering in them the prophecies concerning the Messiah and the Gospel, with its character and message and the role he played in it, the Apostle sees the importance and role of the charism in building the local ecclesial community. In particular, he draws attention to the prophecy in his correspondence with the community in Corinth (1 Cor 12 and 14). There we find very interesting threads related to the practice of this gift at liturgical gatherings. Paul sees this gift as essential to building the ekklesia. According to his concept, through this charism God admonishes, encourages and strengthens his Church. No wonder that it was the prophecy and the prophet's ministry that were distinguished and recognized as one of the most important charisms, playing a special role in the development of the ekklesia.

Ayn Rand, through her character Fransisco d’Anconia in Atlas Shrugged, taught that the Apostle Paul is wrong when he says money is a root of all kinds of evil. Instead, she argues that money is perhaps the greatest invention of humanity and is the foundation of civilization. In this article, Dr. Anderson challenges Rand’s understanding of good and evil first by comparing d’Anconia to Thrasymachus and then by considering good and evil in the Biblical Worldview. These connections make it possible to see how economics and religion are closely connected through basic assumptions about reality and our highest good. Without knowing our highest good we cannot make sense of either religion or economics.

Artykuł prezentuje analizę określenia τὸ εὐαγγέλιον w Corpus Paulinum na tle jego użycia w świecie grecko-rzymskim i Nowym Testamencie. Na podstawie przeanalizowanych tekstów apostoła należy stwierdzić, że nie głosi on „własnej” Ewangelii. Paweł podkreśla, że „jego” Ewangelia jest zarówno Boga (τοῦ θεοῦ), jak i Chrystusa (τοῦ Χριστοῦ). Tak jak Chrystus nie jest podzielny, tak i Ewangelia, którą on zwiastuje, jest jedna (zob. 1 Kor 1,13). To Zmartwychwstały Pan Wszechświata jest centrum Pawłowego kerygmatu. On sam stanowi podmiot i przedmiot Ewangelii. To On jest Tym, który głosi, ale i Tym, który jest głoszony. Żadne inne słowo tak dobrze nie określa działalności i teologii Pawła jako apostoła jak rzeczownik τὸ εὐαγγέλιον.
The article presents the analysis of the term τὸ εὐαγγέλιον in Corpus Paulinum against the background of its use in the Greco-Roman world and the New Testament.  Having examined the apostle’s texts it must be stated that he does not preach „his own” gospel. Paul highlights that „his” gospel belongs to both God (τοῦ θεοῦ) and Christ (τοῦ Χριστοῦ). Just as Christ is indivisible, so the gospel He preaches is one (see 1 Cor 1:13). It is the Resurrected Lord of the Universe who is in the centre of the Paul’s kerygma. He Himself is the subject and the object of the Gospel: the One who preaches but also the One who is preached.  No other word defines the works and theology of Paul as an apostle so accurately as the noun τὸ εὐαγγέλιον.

The author of the article provides a linguistic and theological study of the text from 1Tm 6:17-19, which is a sort of “instruction” offered by the author of the Letter on the Christian attitude towards wealth. Each one of these three verses is analysed separately. The paper draws the reader’s attention to the fact that the material riches owned by a man is a gift from God and brings with itself a threefold accountability: to man, to society and to God. The text under study underlines two main components of wealth which are captured by the adjectives εὐμετάδοτος (generosity beyond measure) and κοινωνικός (the social dimension of wealth). God’s intention for providing men with tangible assets (wealth) is, primarily, doing good to others, also by generous sharing of their possessions. We should perceive wealth from the eschatological point of view which ought to influence the present attitude of wealthy people. A rich man should put his trust not in ephemeral and temporary things but in God who is everlasting and eternal. He is the source of all abundance and wealth. Rich Christians should imitate God in His universal attitude of sharing with everybody.
Autor artykułu przedstawia analizę lingwistyczno-teologiczną tekstu 1Tm 6,17-19, który jest swego rodzaju „instrukcją” autora Listu na temat postawy chrześcijanin wobec bogactwa. Każdy z trzech wierszy analizowany jest oddzielnie. Autor artykułu zwraca uwagę na fakt, że posiadane bogactwo materialne stanowi dar Boga dla człowieka, uwidaczniający się w potrójnej odpowiedzialności: przed samym sobą, przed społeczeństwem oraz przed Bogiem. Analizowany tekst podkreśla dwa główne elementy bogactwa, wyrażone przez przymiotniki εὐμετάδοτος (hojność ponad miarę) oraz κοινωνικός (społeczny wymiar bogactwa). Bożym zamiarem udzielania człowiekowi dóbr materialnych (bogactwa) jest przede wszystkim czynienie dobra względem innych, także poprzez hojne dzielenie się z innymi swoją majętnością. Na bogactwo winniśmy patrzeć z perspektywy eschatologicznej, która wpływać powinna na teraźniejsze postawy ludzi bogatych. Bogaty człowiek winien pokładać swoją nadzieję nie w tym, co ulotne i tymczasowe, ale w Bogu, który jest trwały i wieczny. To On stanowi źródło wszelkiej obfitości i bogactwa. Bogaci chrześcijanie powinni naśladować Boga w Jego uniwersalnej postawie dzielenia się ze wszystkimi.

The paper’s subject is about the interaction between the cult of the goddess Artemis and the cult of St Thecla of Iconium throughout the Eastern Mediterranean in the initial four centuries of Christianity in particular. The phenomenon is investigated regarding the literature, the cities, social groups and personalities mostly associated with the cultural meeting of the free-spirited but fearsome goddess protector of the wilderness, virginity and childhood with the virgin heroine of the Cross and alleged apostolic companion of Paul for spreading the Logos of life to the nations.
Tematem artykułu jest interakcja między kultem bogini Artemidy a kultem św. Tekli z Ikonium we wschodniej części basenu Morza Śródziemnego, zwłaszcza w pierwszych czterech wiekach chrześcijaństwa. Zjawisko to jest badane w odniesieniu do literatury, miast, grup społecznych i osobistości związanych głównie z kulturowym spotkaniem wolnomyślnej, ale przerażającej bogini, obrończyni pustyni, dziewictwa i dzieciństwa, z dziewiczą bohaterką Krzyża i domniemaną apostolską towarzyszką Pawła w szerzeniu Logosu życia wśród narodów.

At the end of the Epistle to the Galatians, Paul writes: “From now on, let no one make trouble for me; for I carry in my body the marks (stigmata) of Jesus”. According to most scholars, Paul refers here to scars caused by the wounds he suffered during his apostolic ministry. By calling them the stigmata of Jesus, according to many, Paul was metaphorically thinking about a tattoo or a burn mark – a sign of belonging to Jesus. However, a philological and contextual analysis suggests that by the stigmata of Jesus Paul metaphorically had in mind the wounds of crucifixion, whereas the words “I carry in my body” should not be understood literally.

Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje cztery koncepcje rozumienia terminu „chrystianologia”. Jest on próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie, co to właściwie jest. Pierwsza z opisywanych koncepcji, autorstwa Emmanuela L. Rehfelda rozważa „chrystianologię” jako jeden z głównych nurtów występujących w antropologicznej releksji prowadzonej na kartach pism Pawłowych. Kolejna koncepcja sformułowana przez o. Romana S. Zdziarstka „chrystianologią” nazywa naukę o chrześcijaninie pozostającym w ontycznej relacji z Trójcą Przenajświętszą. Celem owej nowej dyscypliny teologicznej jest poszukiwanie podstaw tożsamości chrześcijańskiej. Trzecia koncepcja, ks. prof. Mirosława Mroza w „chrystianologii” dostrzega teologię moralną, która jest ukierunkowana na proces stawania się „Chrystusowym”. Ks. Mróz sugeruje również, iż ta perspektywa jest właściwa myśli teologicznomoralnej Tomasza z Akwinu. Autorem ostatniej koncepcji jest o. Wacław Hryniewicz. Rozpatruje on „chrystianologię” jako specyiczne podejście w releksji teologicznej, poszukującej paschalnego wymiaru w egzystencji i duchowości chrześcijańskiej. Według niego „paschalna chrystianologia” może zostać wykorzystana w rozwiązywaniu współczesnych problemów egzystencjalnych. Artykuł zakończony jest kilkoma wnioskami, które mogą posłużyć jako przyczynek do dalszej releksji.
The paper presents four conceptions of understanding the term – “christianology”. It try to answer, what does it really mean. The first author – Emmanuel L. Rehfeld considers “christianology” as a mainstream of anthropological contents in the St. Paul’s teaching. The second author describes “christianology” as a theological study of Christian, which is in the ontic relation to Holy Trinity. In his christianological conception Zdziarstek uses the complex theological method, which the aim is finding the foundations of Christians identity (esse christianum). The next author – M. Mróz considers “christianology” as a moral theology. This conception is directed to the Christian being as a process of conformitas Christi. Also fr. Mróz suggests to use the christianological methods for examination on Thomas Aquinas’s moral thought. The last author – W. Hryniewicz deems “christianology” as an approach of theological reflection, which searches the Passover’s dimension in the sources of Christian existence and Christian spirituality. “The Paschal christianology” can be solution for the existential problems of contemporary people. The conclusions’ section contains a few issues for the further considerations.

Dla wielu wspólnot chrześcijańskich św. Paweł Apostoł był nie tylko założycielem i nauczycielem, lecz przede wszystkim ojcem. Głoszona w mocy Ducha Świętego Ewangelia sprawiła, że między nim a młodymi lokalnymi Kościołami zawiązała się prawdziwie ojcowsko-synowska relacja. Jej intensywność i charakter można zauważyć przede wszystkim w listach kierowanych przez Apostoła do wspólnoty w Koryncie, szczególnie wtedy, gdy Koryntianie oddalali się od prawdziwej wiary.
For many Christian communities, St. Paul the Apostle was not only the founder and teacher but above all a father. The Gospel proclaimed in the power of the Holy Spirit, created a truly father-son relationship between him and the young local Churches. Its intensity and character can be particularly seen in the letters sent by the Apostle to the community in Corinth, especially when the Corinthians were moving away from true faith.

To stanowiące początek nowej drogi spotkanie, jako akt Bożej łaski, miało zapewnić o prawdziwości misji podjętej przed św. Pawła, co zostało potwierdzone przez pozostałych apostołów. Żywe doświadczenie Zbawiciela wzbudziło apostolską gorliwość św. Pawła, dzięki której założył on liczne gminy. Przepowiadana przezeń Ewangelia została mu powierzona i nie była żadną konfabulacją. Św. Paweł postrzega siebie jako sługę Jahwe, któremu przyświeca cel zgromadzenia raz jeszcze Reszty Izraela, niezależnie od konsekwencji. Apostoł Narodów ma pełną świadomość, że jedyną drogą do osiągnięcia owego zamierzenia jest własne poświęcenie. Z tego względu głosi Dobrą Nowinę nie w duchu ludzkiej mądrości, lecz jako „mądrość Krzyża”, która nieraz prowadzi do wyszydzenia i odrzucenia. Mimo tego zakłada on nowe chrześcijańskie wspólnoty, by zasłużyć na „niewiędnący wieniec chwały”.
To start with, we cannot ignore the fact that the authenticity of Paul’s apostolate is often questioned. However, the Apostle of Gentiles was aware of his experience of Jesus Christ that completely transformed his life. This fundamental encounter, an act of grace of God, serves as a guarantee of the veracity of Paul’s mission and this was confirmed by the other apostles. The vivid experience of the Saviour caused his apostolic fervour and the results: the numerous communities founded by Paul. The Gospel he preaches was entrusted to him and not made up. He sees himself as a servant of Yahweh whose objective is to assemble once more the Rest of Israel, whatever it takes. The Apostle of Gentiles knows it well that the only way to achieve this goal is by self-sacrifice. Therefore he brings the Good News not in the spirit of the human wisdom but the ‘wisdom of the Cross’ which often leads to being scorned and rejected. Despite this, he establishes the new Christian communities in order to “merit the incorruptible crown of glory”.
