Opis:
Short assessment and prediction of movement of selected Raba river sections in Southern Poland, using the existing, historical sources is presented in this paper. It was done to the most practicable extent, with regard to the river training structures as groynes and revetments stability structures. The old maps (almost non-existent) and/or aerial photographs of the selected areas and the archival projects of technical Raba river channel regulation were complemented with specific stream power and bed shear stress. In the 8.2 km long study area, four specific sections were studied in the current paper. The general trends over the last fifty years included artificial narrowing of the active channel width with uniform riverbed longitudinal slope. The current studies lead to the conclusion that the narrowed river channel tend to restoring its previous state. However, throughout each analyzed section, the channel-forming processes are varied, mostly related to restoring the local natural longitudinal slope. In Section-1, the process of sediment deposition was observed and it continues till now. In Section-2, the channel-forming processes were carried out with high intensity with tendency to rebuild its previous braided course. Currently, this tendency is continuing. The third Section seems to be the most stable after the river training works. In Section-4 the process of high erosion, especially of the left bank, is observed. The results of the analysis lead to the conclusion that more comprehensive investigation is needed of the whole 8.2-km long reach to assess the river state.

Opis:
The paper considers mountain rivers, which usually feature high dynamics of hydrological phenomena. The variability of the Sola river flows in the Polish Carpathians is presented based on water-gauge measurements from the hydrological long-period of 1956-2015. The flows for the upper section of the river, where no storage reservoirs are found, were analysed. A broad range of flows was shown – from 0.59 to 1250 m3/s at a mean flow of 15.5 m3/s. It was also shown that within a year, the flows grow in the spring (thaw freshets) and summer periods (rainwater freshets). Mainly the summer freshets are dangerous, consisting in a sudden rise of the flow due to rains. This is shown by the high values of maximum flows in June and July. In the case of mountain rivers, such as the Sola river, it is necessary to undertake the actions stabilising the flows, which on the one hand have flood-prevention importance, and on the other hand protect the water resources in long dry periods. The actions should be concentrated on the proper arrangement of the catchment area, slowing down the rainwater outflow. Appropriate land use is especially important (distribution of forests, of arable and developed areas) depending on the land elevation above the sea level and inclination, as well as creation of small storage facilities.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to determine the distribution of prevailing forest types within the catchment areas of the biggest rivers in the north-east of Ukraine. During the allocation of the catchment areas of the studied rivers, the MapInfo Professional 12.5 program and the vector map of Ukraine were used. The research covered the forest area (more than 502,000 ha) of the state forest enterprises managed by the State Forest Resources Agency of Ukraine. The studied area located on the tributaries of the Sula, Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers within the Poltava, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv and Cherkasy administrative regions of Ukraine. The analysis of the forest fund was carried out based on the electronic subcompartment database of the Ukrderzhlisproekt Production Association, using the application software and geoinformation technologies. It was revealed that a large variety of forest types in the tributaries of the Sula, Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers as well as the prevalence of fresh fertile maple-lime oak and fresh fairly infertile oak-pine forest types (in 75 tributaries of Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers) and fresh fertile maple-lime oak and fresh fertile hornbeam oak forest types (in 20 tributaries of the Sula River) are due to the relief, hydrological and soil-climatic conditions of the studied area, as well as anthropogenic factor. Assuming homogeneous natural conditions, an insignificant number of forest types are formed (up to five). For a large variety of natural conditions, there are at least six forest types that should be taken into account during forest management, along with the characteristics of the catchment areas of tributaries. The analysed data on the total number of forest types in the catchments of rivers would be appropriate to use in the future when creating a single list of forest types for the Left-Bank Forest-Steppe zone of Ukraine. The prevalence of certain forest types within the catchment areas of tributaries of the Sula, Psel, Vorskla and Siversky Donets rivers directly depends on the soil and climatic conditions, geomorphological structure, relief and anthropogenic influence in the forests. The results should be used in forest management activities to preserve and restore the species diversity of forests within the river catchmen

Opis:
The analysis of time variability of riverbed elevation recorded at eight cross-sections of the Upper Vistula River is presented in the paper. The variability is analyzed on the base on the observed low annual water stages and the cross-sectional geometry variation observed over decades. Furthermore, the analysis of riverbed changes in the years 2001 – 2011 was done in 16 cross-sections located between the Koło and Zawichost gauging stations. Based on the analyzed changes in the riverbed elevation of the eight tested gauging stations it should be noted that since the beginning of the observation period, that is from about the beginning of the 20th century to the mid 1960’s, in the Upper Vistula River riverbed erosion can be observed with a slight tendency for accumulation. As a result of technical regulations of the river channel of the Vistula River from km 247 +000 to 295 +000 carried out in the years 1975 to 1982, intensive processes of riverbed erosion has occured. In most of the 16 profiles it was found that in the years 2001-2011 the river channel was deepened. The occurrence of local riverbed deepening at the river banks was also observed.

The purpose of the research is to establish the total number of ponds in Ukraine and to analyse the territorial distribution in the administrative areas, as well as in the river basin districts, as the main hydrographic units of water management. Cadastral data of the State Agency of Water Resources of Ukraine regional offices as of 2019 was used in the research (as to Crimea, Donetsk and Luhansk regions we applied the data as of 2014). According the researches there are 50,793 ponds in Ukraine with a total water table area of 2,92899 ha and the volume of 3,969.4 mln m3 of water in 2019. The quantitative distribution of ponds across Ukraine is unequal. Most of them are concentrated in the central part of the country (10.5% of the total number of ponds in the country are in Vinnytsia region). Least of them are in Luhansk region (0.7%). Almost half of the ponds are located in the Dnieper River Basin (48.5%). The lowest quantity of ponds is in the Black Sea Basin (1.2%). The regulation of river basins districts (the rivers of the Sea of Azov, Crimea and Black Sea Basins) reaches 0.71–0.77. As of 2019, 28% of the ponds are rented out. In order to identify the real status of the ponds (both quantitative and qualitative), their recreational role, the environmental impact and the regulation of the hydrographic network in Ukraine, it is necessary to increase the attention to ponds monitoring.

The self-purification capacity of river water is an essential indicator for a healthy river. Various organic and inorganic pollutants, both from point sources and nonpoint sources, in most streams in Banjarmasin were beyond the river self-purification capacity, which caused a decrease in the river water quality. This study attempted to identify the river water pollution distribution in the city of Banjarmasin and determined the self-purification points. We used the purposive sampling technique to carry out river water sampling, with criteria for pollutant sources and distance of pollution taken into consideration. By using the trend analysis techniques, we analyzed the parameters concentration to relate it to the range of pollution so that we were able to identify the pollution distribution and determine the self-purification distances. The results indicated that the self-purification process could take place on the river flow in of Banjarmasin even though it did not reach the clean water zone. The river in Banjarmasin requires a longer purification distance so that the self-purification process can run correctly.

The surface water quality and level of metal contents in the contamination of the Toplluha river sediment were determined by means of statistical techniques and pollution indicators. The samples of water and sediments were taken in five different locations along the Toplluha river in the spring period 2013 and 2019 using standard methods for analysis. International standards (WHO 2004) were used to assess the quality of water. The samples of water in some of the locations were above these criteria levels. The heavy metal contents in the sediment were in the following order: Cu > Zn > Cr > Ni > Pb > Cd. For the evaluation of the heavy metal content, some factors were applied: enrichment factor (EF), pollution load index (PLI) and index of geoccumulation (Igeo). Cu and Pb have a significance enrichment according to the calculated EF values. The Igeo index values for Cu and Zn were at a higher level. The PLI index values were at a progressive high level from stations S3 to S5. Therefore, the preliminary treatment of the discharging waters is indispensable.
