Teacher professional activity, its quality and work efficiency are conditioned by social changes and educational reforms. The following question guides this analysis: What is the impact of professional burnout and professional satisfaction on the development of teachers’ professional career? The analysis of scientific literature was selected for the theoretical explanation of the research problem as well as a quantitative research method was selected for the empirical research. The indicators on the questionnaire scales provided an opportunity to determine the links between Lithuanian teachers’ professional burnout and vocational satisfaction according to different stress dimensions. Statistical analyses were performed using IBM SPSS 23. The results of theoretical and empirical research made it possible to establish the main factors affecting teachers’ professional career:1) significantly reduced ability to work, productivity, lack of work-life balance and self-control at work (professional burnout factors); 2) personal fulfilment and self-realisation and wishing to contribute to social well-being (professional satisfaction factors).

CEL NAUKOWY: Głównym celem jest ukazanie źródeł i obszarów deficytu satysfakcji z pracy badanych nauczycielek. PROBLEM I METODY BADAWCZE: Problemem badawczym jest pytanie dotyczące ujawnionych w narracjach źródeł satysfakcji zawodowej badanych nauczycielek oraz obszarów jej braku. Do zgromadzenia materiału analitycznego posłużył wywiad swobodny o charakterze jakościowym. PROCES WYWODU: Wywód rozpoczęto przedstawieniem wyników badań popierających tezę o wadze kategorii satysfakcji między innymi dla zaangażowania człowieka w wykonywanie zawodowej profesji. Następnie omówiono istotę oraz czynniki warunkujące omawiane zjawisko. W świetle analizy zgromadzonego materiału badawczego ukazano źródła satysfakcji zawodowej badanych nauczycielek oraz obszary jej deficytu. WYNIKI ANALIZY NAUKOWEJ: Analiza wypowiedzi rozmówczyń ujawniła, że głównie czerpią one satysfakcję zawodową z wysokiej oceny ich pracy wystawianej przez inne osoby. Szczególnie zadowolone są z uzyskiwania przez uczniów dobrych miejsc w olimpiadach lub w konkursach czy ze zdania przez nich egzaminów zewnętrznych z wysokimi wynikami, co spotyka się z dużą aprobatą ich zwierzchników. Naczelnym obszarem deficytu zawodowej satysfakcji okazały się złe relacje ze współpracownikami (z innymi nauczycielami i dyrektorami) oraz trudne z rodzicami uczniów. WNIOSKI, INNOWACJE, REKOMENDACJE: Uznając wagę relacji interpersonalnych dla odczuwania satysfakcji z wykonywania profesji, należałoby szczególnie zadbać o nauczycielskie umiejętności ich właściwego budowania. Zadanie wspierania tego rodzaju kompetencji stoi nie tylko przed samymi nauczycielami, ale przed osobami kierującymi i zarządzającymi szkołami. Warto również ich kształtowanie uwzględnić w przygotowywaniu osób do wykonywania tej profesji (głównie w toku studiów).
RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The main objective is to present the sources and areas of the job satisfaction deficit of the surveyed teachers. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The research problem is the question related to the sources of the investigated teachers’ professional satisfaction revealed in their narratives and the areas where there is no such satisfaction. A qualitative free-form interview was implemented to collect the analytical research data. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The presentation began with the demonstration of the results obtained from the research supporting the thesis on the importance of the satisfaction category, inter alia, for human involvement performing a professional work. Then, the essence and factors determining the characterized phenomenon were discussed. In the light of analysis of the data collected, the sources derived from the selected teachers’ professional satisfaction and the areas of its deficit were shown. RESEARCH RESULTS: The analysis of the interlocutors’ statements indicated that they derive professional satisfaction mainly from their high work assessment made by other people. They are particularly satisfied with achieving by students high ranks either in Olympics or competitions or passing the external exams with high results, what is strongly approved by their superiors. The main area of the professional satisfaction deficit turned out to be bad relationships with colleagues (with other teachers and principals) and difficult relationships with students’ parents. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Recognizing the importance of interpersonal relationships for feeling the sense of satisfaction derived from the profession performed, teachers’ skills for their development should be particularly considered. The task of supporting this type of competence is not only a challenge for teachers but also for those who are in charge and management of schools. It is also worth considering their development in preparing persons for this profession (mainly in the course of studies).

The aim of this article is to show the role of matured nurses’ professional satisfaction in the context of ageing society. Additionally, it determines factors which help to retain experienced nurses’ staff. The nurse profession is one of the ageing ones, and ageing in this profession is faster than in average population. The research using the Multi-dimensional Over 50 Workers’ Questionnaire was conducted over the group of 240 people. The research showed that very crucial thing is to pay tribute to older nurses’ work by the employer and to improve financial conditions of the work. Older nurses need an access to develop their professional skills. They need further education as well. All the aspects determining older nurses’ work retention have to be analysed. The awareness of the role played by nurses in ageing society should to be crucial for the employers.

The study was conducted as part of European RN4CAST project, with participation of 16 countries, including 12 from Europe. Aim: To develop universal and modern assumptions for the policy of effective nurse employment and management in hospital. Material and method: The study was conducted on a nationally representative sample of 30 hospitals, selected through multi-stage group sampling. Professional satisfactions of nurses working at internal and surgical wards, as well as satisfaction of patients of these wards were tested in a questionnaire study. Data on patient treatment outcomes, and hospital organisation and operation were also collected. Hierarchical linear modelling (HLM) and generalised estimating equations (GEE) were used for statistical analysis. Conclusion: RN4CAST is the first project focused on the hospital and contextual determinants of its operation, which compares Polish results with those from other European states, thanks to a single international study procedure.

Wstęp Humor jako zasób podmiotowy jednostki pozwala jej redukować napięcia i spostrzegać sytuacje jako mniej zagrażające. Poprzez takie działania wpływa na efektywne radzenie sobie m.in. ze stresem zawodowym oraz zwiększa satysfakcję z wykonywanej pracy. Materiał i metody Do badań zakwalifikowano 201 osób pracujących zawodowo (113 kobiet i 88 mężczyzn) w wieku 19–60 lat – średnia wieku w tej grupie wyniosła 37,76 roku (SD = 12,04). Badania były prowadzone przez miesiąc (przełom lutego i marca 2017 r.). Zastosowano w nich: Skalę radzenia sobie przez humor (Coping Humor Scale – CHS), Skalę satysfakcji z pracy (SSP), Skalę odczuwanego stresu w pracy (PSS-10-P) oraz ankietę własną. Wyniki Radzenie sobie ze stresem przez humor częściowo mediuje związek między poczuciem stresu w pracy a satysfakcją zawodową. Zmniejszając napięcie nerwowe wywołane różnymi sytuacjami związanymi z wykonywanymi obowiązkami pracowniczymi, pozytywnie wpływa na poczucie satysfakcji z pracy. Wnioski Radzenie sobie przez humor zwiększa zdolności adaptacyjne jednostki w obliczu stresu w pracy m.in. poprzez przesunięcie perspektywy i zdystansowanie się do problemów zawodowych. Background Humor is considered as a personal resource that allows individuals to effectively deal with stressful situations at work by reducing tension and perceiving the situation as less threatening. By reducing stress, humor contributes to increased job satisfaction. Material and Methods A total of 201 professionally active participants (113 women and 88 men) aged 19–60 years old were qualified for the study – the average age in the study group was 37.76 years (SD = 12.04). The study was conducted for 1 month (at the turn of February and March 2017). The following methods were used in the research: Coping Humor Scale (CHS), Satisfaction with Job Scale (SSP), Sense of Stress at Work Scale (PSS-10-P) and own survey. Results Humor coping with stress partially mediates the relationship between a sense of stress at work and job satisfaction. It is associated with less tension at work and greater job satisfaction. Conclusions Coping humor with stress increases the individual adaptation capacity in the face of stress at work, by shifting the perspective, distancing from problems at work and changing stressors appraisal as less threatening. Background: Nurses’ professional self and job satisfaction directly affect their professional practices. For this reason, it is important to find out about their perceptions of their professional self, the factors that affect and are affected by the professional self, and nurses’ job satisfaction. Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between the professional self-concept and job satisfaction of nurses working in psychiatry clinics. Material and Methods: The universe of this descriptive and correlational study was the psychiatric nurses in Turkey and its sample comprised of 103 nurses employed in the psychiatry clinics and polyclinics of university hospitals randomly selected from provinces representing the seven geographical regions in Turkey. The data collection tools used in the study were Information Form, Professional Self Concept Scale and Nursing Job Satisfaction Scale in Nurses. Results: Psychiatric nurses have a high professional self-concept and moderate job satisfaction. There is a statistically significant positive correlation between the professional self-concept and job satisfaction of nurses. Conclusion: Professional self-concepts and job satisfaction of psychiatric nurses are affected by demographic characteristics and these two variables are related to each other.

The following article presents the goals and assumptions contained in the project entitled “Psychosocial influences concerning disabled people’s professional activity”. The study was conducted in four stages: (1) document analysis and literature review presenting research concerning how disabled people function on the job market; (2) expert opinions, including disabled people; (3) qualitative studies employing Maxqda2 to analyze information gathered from 311 interviews; and (4) quantitative research on a sample of 1498 participants with various types of disabilities (hearing, sight, physical, somatic, and psychological) conducted in 2007. The following article presents the first set of results obtained, referring to connections on a socio-demographic level (place of residence, gender, age, education, and marital status) as well as those isolating disability characteristics (type, level, and genesis) against degree of life satisfaction. Comparisons were executed for five groups with various employment statuses: employed, those looking for employment who had worked before, those looking for employment who had no previous employment experience, previously employed but had no intention of returning to the workforce and those who had never worked and had no intention of becoming employed. Lowest feelings of life satisfaction were among those not looking for employment whereas highest levels of life satisfaction occurred amongst employed participants. Important risk factors: gender (female), age (elderly), low education, marital status (single), place of residence (non-city dwellers), disability (innate and level).

Objectives The aim of this study has been to examine the degree to which it is possible to predict job satisfaction in hospital nurses based on core self-evaluation and the nurses’ professional commitment. Psychological constructs of nurses’ professional commitment could predict a level of job satisfaction. Material and Methods A cross-sectional design was applied. Data was collected from 584 nurses of the University Hospital Osijek between April and November 2016. Core Self-Evaluation Scale (CSES), Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS) and Nurses‘ Professional Commitment Scale (NPCS) were administrated to the study participants. Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to test the validity of each questionnaire. Structural equation modeling was used for testing the prediction of nurses’ professional commitment and core self-evaluation of job satisfaction. Nurses’ professional commitment is variable, which functions as a mediator between predictor (core selfevaluation – CSE) and criterion variable (job satisfaction – JS). As a mediator, it explains what the effect is, provided that correlations among all variables are significant. Results The correlation analyses reveal significant positive correlations between job satisfaction and core self-evaluation (r = 0.441, p > 0.001) as well as between job satisfaction and nurses’ professional commitment (r = 0.464, p > 0.001). Furthermore, core self-evaluation significantly and positively correlates with nurses’ professional commitment (r = 0.402, p > 0.001). The results have shown that nurses’ professional commitment mediates the relationship between core self-evaluation and job satisfaction. The bootstrap analysis showed that core self-evaluation partially mediated the relationship between nurses’ professional commitment and job satisfaction (β = 0.78, p < 0.001**). The indirect effects of core self-evaluation on job satisfaction through nurses’ professional commitment was also significant (β = 0.17, p < 0.001**). Conclusions Nurses who are more committed to their work, regardless of the structure of personality, have greater satisfaction in their work. Int J Occup Med Environ Health 2018;31(5):649–658

The phenomenon of achieving or experiencing professional satisfaction carries a multitude of possibilities of interpretation. It is also determined by various factors. In this paper we assume that job satisfaction is an important aspect of teachers’ work quality. Perception of their work and the degree of work satisfaction affect the professional activity of teachers – the level of involvement and identification with the profession, creativity, motivation for development. The aim of the study, the results of which are presented in this article, is to search for relationships between autotelic and normative attitudes of teachers towards work and their work satisfaction. The study, which involved 367 teachers employed in Polish universities, is on linear relations and uses a hierarchical multiple regression analysis. The results of these studies made it possible to identify the main predictors of contemporary academics’ job satisfaction and confirmed the fact that the satisfaction is in the area of teaching and research, and depends – to a greater extent – on the presented attitude towards work rather than received social support and work atmosphere. Interpersonal relationships in the workplace, however, proved a major determinant of the level of satisfaction with the organizational work for the university.
