    Opis:
    The Catholic Church in Upper Silesia did not neglect its salvific role in the period of change to the social, economic and cultural life in the years of expansion and industrial concentration at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its representatives – clergy and laity – intensified religious life in parallel with the demographic and economic development of the Upper Silesian Industrial District, which was related to the construction of new places of worship and the creation of new parishes. The parish communities somehow stopped visitors and integrated them with the locals through a framework of devotions or the construction of temples
    Kościół na Górnym Śląsku nie zaniedbał swojej zbawczej roli w okresie przemian życia społecznego, gospodarczego i kulturalnego w latach ekspansji i koncentracji przemysłowej na przełomie XIX i XX w. Jego przedstawiciele – duchowni i świeccy – intensyfikowali życie religijne równolegle z rozwojem demograficznym i gospodarczym Górnośląskiego Okręgu Przemysłowego, co było związane z budową nowych miejsc kultu i tworzeniem nowych parafii. Wspólnoty parafialne niejako zatrzymywały na miejscu przybyszów i integrowały ich z miejscowymi w ramach wspólnych nabożeństw czy wznoszenia świątyń.

    Inspiracją do powstania niniejszego artykułu była refleksja, iż mimo przekształceń, jakie dokonały się w przestrzeni Górnego Śląska przede wszystkim w nowym milenium, region ten wciąż jeszcze postrzegany jest przez pryzmat przemysłu, zaś w jego percepcji dominuje w sensie dosłownym i metaforycznym czarna barwa. Autorka artykułu stara się przełamać ten stereotypowy obraz, dokonując przeglądu wybranych leśnych krajobrazów regionu utrwalonych na kartach literatury niemieckiej inspirowanej regionalnym kolorytem.
    The present article has been inspired by a reflection that, despite the transformations that have taken place in the Upper Silesia region, primarily in the new millennium, this region is still perceived through the prism of industry, and its perception is dominated by black colour, in a literal and metaphorical sense. The author of the article tries to break this stereotypical image by making a review of selected forest landscapes recorded on the pages of German literature inspired by local colours.
    Der vorliegende Artikel verdankt seine Entstehung der Überlegung, dass trotz des Wandels in dem oberschlesischen Raum, der vor allem im neuen Millennium stattgefunden hat, diese Region immer noch als eine Industrielandschaft wahrgenommen und ihre Perzeption im wortwörtlichen und metaphorischen Sinne von der schwarzen Farbe dominiert wird. Es wird daher versucht, das stereotype Bild Oberschlesiens zu hinterfragen und eine Übersicht über die regionalen Waldlandschaften darzubieten, welche in der von dem lokalen Kolorit inspirierten deutschen Literatur evoziert wurden.

    Varietäten des Deutschen außerhalb des zusammenhängenden deutschen Sprachgebiets stellen infolge der Interaktion mit den Umgebungssprachen eine Art Kontaktvarietäten dar. Dies bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass es sich dabei um homogene Erscheinungsformen des Deutschen handelt. Anhand des Sprachinseldeutschen von Kostenthal wird im vorliegenden Beitrag veranschaulicht, dass sich die oberschlesischen Sprachinseln vom Deutschen im Großteil Oberschlesiens nachweislich unterscheiden, wobei diese Differenzen auf die unterschiedliche Entwicklungsgeschichte dieser Varietäten zurückführbar sind. Ferner wird der Versuch unternommen, einen Überblick über den Stand der linguistischen Untersuchungen zu Schlesien zu schaffen und einige noch bestehende Forschungslücken aufzuzeigen.
    Odmiany języka niemieckiego występujące poza zwartym obszarem niemieckojęzycznym tworzą wskutek interakcji z koegzystującymi w tych regionach językami swoisty rodzaj wariantów kontaktu. Nie oznacza to bynajmniej, że odmiany te mają charakter homogeniczny. Niniejszy artykuł unaocznia na przykładzie wariantu gościęcińskiego, że niemczyzna górnośląskich wysp językowych odbiega od języka niemieckiego występującego na większości terenów Górnego Śląska, przy czym różnice te wynikają z innego historycznego rozwoju tychże wariantów. Nadto artykuł ma być próbą krótkiego nakreślenia stanu dotychczasowych badań językoznawczych dotyczących Śląska i wskazać na niektóre istniejące jeszcze luki badawcze.
    The varieties of German spoken beyond the closed German speaking territories are, as a result of the interaction with the surrounding languages, a kind of contact varieties. Still, it doesn’t mean that those vernaculars are homogenous. The present paper shows on the basis of the vernacular of Gościęcin that the varieties of the Upper Silesian speech islands vary from the German which is spoken in the most parts of Upper Silesia. The differences result from different historical developments of the varieties. The aim is also to outline the state of linguistic research on Silesia and to point some still existing research gaps.

    The pluralism of modern societies in a globalised world is connected inseparably with tension, conflict of interest, and divergent opinions concerning the worldview and practical human behaviours. In the context of the complexity of human relations and the diversity of political, cultural, religious, social and worldview levels there lies the question about the possibility of the peaceful coexistence between people and social groups. An answer to this question is the idea of reconciled diversity which is delivered in a concrete and an historical context in Upper Silesia, and is elaborated, developed and applied to the complex social, cultural and religious problems explored by Abp Alfons Nossol, bishop of the Diocese of Opole. The present paper begins with a depiction of the complexity of the problems in human relations on various levels within Upper Silesia. Then the essence, foundations and main elements of the reconciled diversity is presented in the thought of Abp Alfons Nossol. At the end the article shows the actuality and universal character of idea, which in others contexts and societies makes peaceful coexistence possible. The idea of reconciled diversity has a theological character, but was effectively practiced in the actual regional background of Upper Silesia and confirmed the possibility of dense theological ideas based on the concrete complex problems of life.
    Pluralizm współczesnych społeczeństw w zglobalizowanym świecie nieodłącznie wiąże się z napięciami, konfliktem interesów i rozbieżnymi poglądami dotyczącymi postrzegania świata i praktycznych zachowań ludzi. W kontekście złożoności relacji międzyludzkich oraz różnorodności wyrażającej się na płaszczyźnie politycznej, kulturowej, religijnej, społecznej i światopoglądowej rodzi się pytanie o możliwość pokojowej koegzystencji ludzi i grup społecznych. Odpowiedzią na to pytanie jest idea pojednanej różnorodności, która zrodziła się w konkretnym kontekście historycznym na Górnym Śląsku, a jej wypracowania, rozwinięcia i zastosowania do złożonych problemów społeczno-kulturowo-religijnych dokonał abp Alfons Nossol, biskup diecezji opolskiej. Niniejszy tekst na początku przedstawia złożoność problemów w relacjach międzyludzkich na różnych płaszczyznach na Górnym Śląsku. Następnie prezentuje istotę, podstawy i główne elementy pojednanej różnorodności w myśli abp. A. Nossola. Na końcu artykuł ukazuje aktualność i uniwersalny charakter idei, która także w innych kontekstach i społeczeństwach umożliwia pokojową koegzystencję. Idea pojednanej różnorodności ma charakter teologiczny, ale znalazła skuteczne zastosowanie w konkretnym środowisku regionalnym Górnego Śląska, co potwierdza możliwości wpływu idei teologicznych na konkretne złożone problemy życia.

    In diesem Artikel werden ausgewählte Beiträge mit gegenwärtigen Geschichtsnarrativen zu den oberschlesischen Auswanderern nach Texas im 19. Jahrhundert, den sog. Silesian Texans, vorgestellt und besprochen. Dabei werden die darin vorkommenden Zuschreibungen von nationalen Kategorien hinsichtlich der Identität, Sprache, kulturellen und ortsgebundenen Herkunft kritisch hinterfragt. Die dabei verwendete Methode ist die komparatistische Imagologie nach dem „Aachener Programm“. Diese eignet sich in besonderer Weise für derartige Untersuchungen in transnationalen Gebieten wie Oberschlesien und ihren Überseeformen in Texas, USA. Die angeführten Quellen aus den letzten drei Jahrzehnten werden neuesten wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen hinsichtlich der Forschung zu den Silesian Texans wie auch der (ober)schlesischen Sprache gegenübergestellt. Der Artikel kann als Bestandaufnahme aktueller Quellen zum Phänomen der Silesian Texans wie auch als ihre kritische Besprechung verstanden werden. In der Untersuchung werden historische Fehler und Anachronismen in den Geschichtsnarrativen aufgezeigt, in denen die Herkunftsregion der Silesian Texans nicht ihrem Charakter als ein Grenzgebiet entsprechend, weder multikulturell noch transnational wahrgenommen wird.
     In this article, selected contemporary historical articles with narratives about the Upper Silesian emigrants to Texas in the 19th century, the so-called Silesian Texans, are cited and discussed. The attributions of national categories with regard to identity, language, cultural and local origin are critically examined. The method used is comparative imagology according to the “Aachener Programm”. This is especially suitable for alike studies in transnational areas such as Upper Silesia and its oversea diaspora in Texas, USA. The cited sources of the last three decades are contrasted with the latest scholarly findings regarding research on the Silesian Texans, as well as the (Upper) Silesian language itself. This article can be seen as a survey of current sources on the phenomenon of the Silesian Texans, as well as a critical discussion of them. The study highlights historical errors and anachronisms in historical narratives in which the Silesian Texans’ region of origin is perceived as neither multicultural nor transnational according to its character as a borderland.
    W niniejszym tekście przedstawiono i omówiono wybrane artykuły ze współczesnymi narracjami historycznymi na temat górnośląskich emigrantów do Teksasu w XIX wieku, tzw. śląskich Teksańczyków/Silesian Texans. Krytycznej analizie poddane zostały występujące w nich atrybucje kategorii narodowych w odniesieniu do tożsamości, języka, pochodzenia kulturowego i miejsca. Zastosowana metoda to imagologia porównawcza według „Aachener Programm/Programu z Akwizgranu”. Jest ona szczególnie przydatna do tego typu badań na obszarach transnarodowych, takich jak Górny Śląsk i jego zamorskie formy w Teksasie w USA. Przytoczone źródła z ostatnich trzech dekad są zestawione z najnowszymi wynikami badań nad śląskimi Teksańczykami, jak również nad językiem (górno) śląskim. Artykuł można traktować jako przegląd aktualnych źródeł na temat fenomenu śląskich Teksańczyków, jak również ich krytyczną dyskusję. Studium wskazuje na błędy historyczne i anachronizmy w narracjach historycznych, w których region pochodzenia śląskich Teksańczyków nie jest postrzegany zgodnie z jego charakterem jako region pogranicza, zatem ani jako region wielokulturowy, ani transnarodowy.
