This paper presents a literature review of maintenance strategies formulation. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of different published concepts of maintenance strategies, distinguish the most common approaches to this issue and find a general tendency in strategies classification. Furthermore, the review is aimed to point out the importance of unscheduled downtime which might occur during equipment runtime in a production plant. The paper classifies the existing maintenance concepts and emphasizes key assumptions of the analysed strategies. The literature study and carried out analysis could be useful to find appropriate reliability assurance methods. In addition, defined maintenance approaches might help in decision making process in a company. The paper is a comprehensive overview of discussed strategies, which indicates the most frequent maintenance models in the analysed papers.

The present article does a chronological tour through some representative maintenance management models, describes them in a general way and classifies them according to their functioning under declarative models and under process oriented models. It distinguishes in addition the innovations proposed by each author and compares the elements appearing on each model with some of the points mentioned by the ISO 9001:2008 standard, as well as other criteria considered suitable to the case. From this analysis are derived the results between which are distinguished some desirable characteristics for a modern and efficient maintenance management model. In addition the application of these models for supporting industrial needs, as well as its future challenges are discussed too.

Digitalization and sustainability are important topics for manufacturing industries as they are affecting all parts of the production chain. Various initiatives and approaches are set up to help companies adopt the principles of the fourth industrial revolution with respect sustainability. Within these actions the use of modern maintenance approaches such as Maintenance 4.0 is highlighted as one of the prevailing smart & sustainable manufacturing topics. The goal of this paper is to describe the latest trends within the area of maintenance management from the perspective of the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution and the economic, environmental and social challenges of sustainable development. In this work, intelligent and sustainable maintenance was considered in three perspectives. The first perspective is the historical perspective, in relation to which evolution has been presented in the approach to maintenance in accordance with the development of production engineering. The next perspective is the development perspective, which presents historical perspectives on maintenance data and data-driven maintenance technology. The third perspective, presents maintenance in the context of the dimensions of sustainable development and potential opportunities for including data-driven maintenance technology in the implementation of the economic, environmental and social challenges of sustainable production.

Maintenance is a key manufacturing function that contributes to a company’s productivity, profitability and sustainability. Unfortunately, many aspects of the contribution of maintenance to sustainability in manufacturing remain unexplored, and many enterprises are not yet ready to assess the maintenance impacts on their sustainability. Maturity models are useful tools for assessing maintenance practices; however, no maintenance maturity model that allows the evaluation of the contribution of maintenance to sustainable performance was found in literature. This paper proposes a model for assessing the maturity and sustainability of maintenance processes. The model outputs are: a measure of the maintenance and sustainability maturity level; recommendations for improvement to undertake to enhance maintenance maturity and, thus, meet sustainability standards. The model was applied in three manufacturing enterprises: the calculation of their maintenance maturity and sustainability indices made the maintenance stakeholders more aware of the need to implement effective strategies for more sustainable maintenance performance.

Maritime safety involves minimizing error in all aspects of the marine system. Human error has received much importance, being responsible for about 80% of the maritime accident worldwide. Currently, more attention has been focused to reduce human error in marine engine maintenance. On-board marine engine maintenance activities are often complex, where seafarers conduct maintenance activities in various marine environmental (i.e. extreme weather, ship motions, noise, and vibration) and operational (i.e. work overload and stress) conditions. These environmental and operational conditions, in combination with generic human error tendencies, results in innumerable forms of error. There are numerous accidents that happened due to the human error during the maintenance activities of a marine engine. The most severe human error results in accidents due to is a loss of life. Moreover, there are other consequences too such as delaying the productivity of marine operations which results in the financial loss. This study reviews methods that are currently available for identifying, reporting and managing human error in marine engine maintenance. As a basis for this discussion, authors provide an overview of approaches for investigating human error, and a description of marine engine maintenance activities and environmental and operational characteristics.

Maintenance is an important way to ensure the best performance of repairable systems. This paper considers how to reduce system maintenance cost while ensuring consistent system performance. Due to budget constraints, preventive maintenance (PM) can be done on only some of the system components. Also, different selections of components to be maintained can have markedly different effects on system performance. On the basis of the above issues, this paper proposes an importance-based maintenance priority (IBMP) model to guide the selection of PM components. Then the model is extended to find the degree of correlation between two components to be maintained and a joint importance-based maintenance priority (JIBMP) model to guide the selection of opportunistic maintenance (OM) components is proposed. Also, optimization strategies under various conditions are proposed. Finally, a case of 2H2E architecture is used to demonstrate the proposed method. The results show that generators in the 2E layout have the highest maintenance priority, which further explains the difference in the importance of each component in PM.

Purpose: of this study is to address the issue of maintenance work in the accommodation sector. The development of the means of transport, the increase in income level and the increase in comfort level create a desire for people to travel more. In the travels to different cities, accommodation facilities such as hotels, holiday villages and apartments are used. Customer satisfaction is very important for the accommodation facilities. In order to ensure customer satisfaction, the services provided should not be interrupted and all machinery and equipment must be in working condition. To ensure this, it is very important to carry out maintenance work on the plants and devices. Therefore, the establishment of a maintenance management system in accommodation facilities is very important and it is necessary to carry out maintenance work. In this context, different maintenance methods are applied in accommodation facilities. In this study, maintenance of accommodation facilities is discussed. Design/methodology/approach: Within the scope of the study, maintenance and maintenance management in accommodation facilities are discussed. The maintenance principles of accommodation facilities are discussed in detail. The places where maintenance services are conducted in accommodation facilities and maintenance methods are discussed. Findings: This study shows that that the implementation of maintenance management system will increase customer satisfaction. It has been evaluated that maintenance can be successful not only by maintenance personnel but also with the participation of all plant employees. Research limitations/implications: In order to see the importance of maintenance in accommodation facilities, it will be appropriate to compare the hotels with the maintenance management system applied and the hotels that are not implemented in terms of customer satisfaction and maintenance expenses. For the future studies, the maintenance management system in hotels can be examined in detail. Practical implications: Expanding the maintenance management practices in accommodation facilities will increase the capacity utilization rate of the hotels and increase customer satisfaction. Originality/value: In the field of maintenance, detailed studies have been carried out in the manufacturing sector for a long time and have been examined in detail. However, work in this area is quite limited, especially in accommodation facilities and hotels. In this study, the subject of accommodation facilities and maintenance of hotels was discussed in detail.

Automatically controlled hydraulic tension systems adjust the tension force of a conveyor belt under different working conditions. Failures of an automatically controlled hydraulic tension system influence the performance of conveyor belts. At present, the maintenance of automatically controlled hydraulic tension systems mainly considers the replacement of components when failures occur. Considering the maintenance cost and downtime, it is impossible to repair all the failed components to improve the hydraulic tension system. One of the key problems is selecting the most valuable components for preventive maintenance. In this paper, preventive maintenance for multiple components in a hydraulic tension system is analyzed. An index is proposed to select more reliable preventive maintenance components to replace the original ones. A case study is given to demonstrate the proposed method. When the cost budget increases, there are three different variations in the number of components for selective preventive maintenance (SPM).

The paper presents the results of examination of the proposal content and the scope of maintenance of the machining center MCFV 1050 Basic through the RCM II - Reliability Centered Maintenance method. Based on the analysis of apriori and parametric reliability methods, it was decided to use the FMEA for analyze the causes and consequences of failure states using the software IQ-RM PRO 6. The structure, defined functions and fault functions were developed.The analyzed types of failure and types of maintenance tasks were processed in the RCM II Information and Decision Making Reports.The result is 10 proposed maintenance tasks performed in time intervals, 8 maintenance tasks performed as needed and 1 maintenance task performed after the specified performance.The end of the article discusses the suitability of the applied methods for the maintenance proposal and of the defined recommendations.

In future, offshore wind turbines may be consider a crucial part in the supply of energy. Maintenance processes are directed to attain a safe and reliable operation of offshore machines and wind turbines. In this paper, an opportunistic maintenance strategy for offshore wind turbine is proposed, considering imperfect maintenance and the preventive maintenance durations. Reliability Centric Maintenance serves as a proactive tactic to operations and maintenance by inhibiting the possible reasons of poor performance and controlling failures. Other components can implement the opportunistic preventive maintenances if one component has reached its reliability threshold. According to the rolling horizon approach, it is of great importance to update the maintenance planning for the sake of the short-term information. By figuring out the best combination, the maintenance schedule in the mission time has been finally determined. Failure information are obtained from previous studies to accomplish the calculations. The outcomes indicate that the maintenance cost has been dramatically reduced through the application of opportunistic maintenance.

One of the concepts decreasing the variability of the production processes is the Total Productive Maintenance. The aim of the article is to examine the impact of the TPM implementation on the reduction of process variation on the example of the production company. Also a way of implementation of the concept in the production company has been presented. The second part contains the description of the applied research tools, it also presents research results and shows the final conclusions regarding the impact of TPM on the process variation in the studied company.

Maintenance can play a key role in the long-term profitability of a company in the manufacturing sector, where it can have major impact on delivery, quality and cost. The importance of maintenance has increased, as high productivity and quality can be achieved by means of well-developed and organized maintenance strategies. However, this assumes that maintenance is controlled in such a way that equipment is stopped for maintenance via a systematic schedule. With the recent advances in technology many methodologies, tools, techniques and strategies have been developed and tested. The primary methodologies are Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) and Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM), with variations being developed to suit individual organisations. In general, there can be considerable benefits, but these are usually demonstrated in large organisations. Unfortunately, the majority of organisations are constrained by certain barriers, with the resulting loss of major benefits. These are usually the Small and Medium Sized Enterprises (SMEs). The paper identifies the barriers to the implementation of TPM within SMEs. Based upon our analysis a new maintenance methodology, the Advanced Integrated Maintenance Management System (AIMMS) is developed. AIMMS succeeds through focusing on specific maintenance tasks that will maximise gains based upon the inherent barriers within SMEs. To enable implementation, monitoring and evaluation of AIMMS, a computerized system Maintenance Management (MainMan) was developed and implemented within several of case study companies. The paper examines the implementation process in one of these companies. The results indicate that AIMMS supports strategic maintenance decisions, and helps increase equipment effectiveness by prioritizing equipment criticality and focusing on specific resources that will maximise gains based upon a return on investment.

In existing literature, imperfect maintenance has been widely studied and many studies treat the effectiveness of imperfect maintenance as a fixed constant. In reality, it is more realistic to regard the maintenance efficiency as a random quantity as it may not be precise value due to the lack of sufficient data and/or the variation from system to system. In this paper, a hybrid imperfect maintenance model with random adjustment-reduction parameters is proposed, and a maintenance policy, namely the sequential preventive maintenance in periodic leisure interval, is studied based on the proposed hybrid random imperfect maintenance model, and the corresponding maintenance strategy is optimized by the genetic algorithm (GA). A numerical example and an example of the fuel injection pump of diesel engines are presented to illustrate the proposed method.
W literaturze, temat konserwacji niepełnej został szeroko zbadany i wiele z opisywanych badań traktuje wydajność konserwacji niepełnej jako wartość stałą. W rzeczywistości jednak wydajność konserwacji należy traktować jako wielkość losową, ponieważ nie można jej dokładnie określić ze względu na brak wystarczających danych i / lub różnice między poszczególnymi systemami. W niniejszej pracy zaproponowano model hybrydowy konserwacji niepełnej łączący pojęcia parametrów losowej korekcji i losowej redukcji wieku. Na podstawie proponowanego modelu hybrydowego losowej konserwacji niepełnej przebadano strategię sekwencyjnej konserwacji zapobiegawczej przeprowadzanej okresowo w czasie wolnym od pracy; omawianą strategię konserwacji zoptymalizowano za pomocą algorytmu genetycznego (GA). Proponowaną metodę zilustrowano przykładem liczbowym oraz omówiono na przykładzie pompy wtryskowej paliwa do silników wysokoprężnych.

Maintenance is fundamental to ensure the safety, reliability and availability of engineering systems, and predictive maintenance is the leading one in maintenance technology. This paper aims to develop a novel data-driven predictive maintenance strategy that can make appropriate maintenance decisions for repairable complex engineering systems. The proposed strategy includes degradation feature selection and degradation prognostic modeling modules to achieve accurate failure prognostics. For maintenance decision-making, the perfect time for taking maintenance activities is determined by evaluating the maintenance cost online that has taken into account of the failure prognostic results of performance degradation. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed strategy is confirmed using the NASA data set of aero-engines. Results show that the proposed strategy outperforms the two benchmark maintenance strategies: classical periodic maintenance and emerging dynamic predictive maintenance.

To reduce the maintenance cost and improve the effectiveness of the maintenance activities in series-parallel systems, a preventive maintenance (PM) decision model for series-parallel systems subject to reliability was developed. This model considered the effect of failure maintenance on PM cycle and the restriction of system reliability in maintenance decision making, thus can help decision-maker to arrange appropriate and effective maintenance activities. Finally, an example was given to validate the proposed model.

Opis:
Many authors have highlighted the importance of physical assets maintenance management in relation to resilience engineering, especially for systems operating under significant uncertainty. Thus, the authors presented a new approach to system maintenance based on resilience concept implementation. They introduced Maintenance Support Potentials (MSP) as a measure of an organization's maintenance support capacity. Moreover, based on the MSP definition, they developed a fuzzy-based organization's maintenance support potential level assessment method. The proposed approach takes into account two main MSP parameters – potential readiness level and process regency. It followed four main steps, including organization's MSP identification/evaluation, MSP weights assessment, Maintenance Support Capacity assessment, and final reasoning. A case study of a global manufacturer from the automotive industry is presented to illustrate the method's applicability. The authors also indicated further research directions to optimize the maintenance strategy based on Resilience-Based Maintenance concept.

The paper presents an attempt to develop better and cheaper methodology for evaluation of the quality of the ships’ computerized Planned Maintenance System databases. A concept for the better methodology has been developed following many times verified rule that faster and cheaper is better. The concept of the methodology has been checked in operation, tested on four different databases. Results of the evaluation performed by the concept are compared with an expert evaluation using old, verified methodology, performed on same databases. Comparison valuated the concept, bringing the verdict if it is functioning or not, showing that the old and verified rule is not functioning every time.

Opis:
One of the ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and other polluting gases caused by ships is to improve their maintenance operations through their life cycle. The maintenance manager usually does not modify the preventive intervals that the equipment manufacturer has designed to reduce the failure. Conditions of use and maintenance often change from design conditions. In these cases, continuing using the manufacturer's preventive intervals can lead to non-optimal management situations. This article proposes a new method to calculate the preventive interval when the hours of failure of the assets are unavailable. Two scenarios were created to test the effectiveness and usefulness of this new method, one without the failure hours and the other with the failure hours corresponding to a bypass valve installed in the engine of a maritime transport surveillance vessel. In an easy and fast way, the proposed method allows the maintenance manager to calculate the preventive interval of equipment that does not have installed an instrument for measuring operating hours installed.

Opis:
In the paper, the methodology of optimization of planned preventive maintenance is proposed, which is based on the utilization of data obtained from a maintenance information system - adjusting the database structure, collection and processing of data. The data processing algorithm is based on the application of theory of replacement and its modification for the given problem. The core principle of the algorithm is the minimization of costs of maintenance and operation of production equipment. The algorithm can be either used as a separate tool or integrated into the computer maintenance management system as a complementary module. Therefore it enables to optimize the intervals of various levels of planned preventive maintenance of most of the production equipment in a company. A practical example of application of such algorithm is presented in the end of the paper.
W niniejszej pracy zaproponowano metodologię optymalizacji planowych prac konserwacyjnych opartą na wykorzystaniu danych pozyskanych z systemu informacji eksploatacyjnej - dopasowaniu struktury bazy danych, sposobu jej gromadzenia i przetwarzania. Algorytm przetwarzania danych opiera się na zastosowaniu teorii wymiany i jej modyfikacji dla danego problemu. Centralną zasadą algorytmu jest minimalizacja kosztów utrzymania i użytkowania sprzętu produkcyjnego. Algorytm ten może być używany jako oddzielne narzędzie lub może być integrowany z systemem komputerowego zarządzania eksploatacją i utrzymaniem ruchu jako moduł uzupełniający. Tym samym pozwala on na optymalizację przerw poświęconych różnego zakresu planowym pracom konserwacyjnym większości sprzętu produkcyjnego w przedsiębiorstwie. Przykład praktycznego zastosowania takiego algorytmu przedstawiono w końcowej części pracy.

This paper deals with the maintenance cost of deteriorating systems. Two maintenance strategies are studied: age-replacement and condition-based maintenance. To compare these two policies, degradation models are used: these models characterize the degradation level but also the system time-to-failure. In order to compute the optimal condition-based maintenance cost, we suppose that the main influencing sources are the preventive threshold, the inspection frequency and the inspection cost. Numerical examples illustrate the maintenance cost computation and compare the optimal costs of both policies.

For industrial and military applications, a sequence of missions would be performed with a limited break between two adjacent missions. To improve the system reliability, selective maintenance may be performed on components during the break. Most studies on selective maintenance generally use minimal repair and replacement as maintenance actions while break duration is assumed to be deterministic. However, in practical engineering, many maintenance actions are imperfect maintenance, and the break duration is stochastic due to environmental and other factors. Therefore, a selective maintenance optimization model is proposed with imperfect maintenance for stochastic break duration. The model is aimed to maximize the reliability of system successfully completing the next mission. The reinforcement learning(RL) method is applied to optimally select maintenance actions for selected components. The proposed model and the advantages of the RL are verified by three case studies verify.

Maintenance involves a large amount of data management. Although many tools, strategies, and systems, have been developed to organize the maintenance information resources, SMEs have not found the same benefits as large companies due to their inherent characteristics and, above all, the maturity level of the maintenance department. Maturity models are useful tools for assessing the maturity of maintenance information practices; however, existing models are not suitable for any type of business context, as they required companies to have a clear organizational structure and definite informative infrastructure. Moreover, they do not assist in identifying and defining actions to reach the highest level. This paper proposes a model for assessing and improving maintenance management information practices. It allows a clear measure of the maturity of the maintenance information management practices in industrial contexts and provides improvement actions identifying the information and data needed to enhance maintenance management information practices.

Artykuł omawia niemiecką monografię poświęconą prawu alimentacyjnemu Unterhaltsprozess (Eschenbruch, Wolters Kluwer 2021). Autor poszukuje wielowymiarowości alimentacji zarówno w wymiarze krajowym, jak i międzynarodowym, a ocena uwzględnia interdyscyplinarny i transgraniczny charakter tej problematyki, która łączy prawo rodzinne z prawem publicznym, socjalnym, procesowym, podatkowym, europejskim oraz prywatnym międzynarodowym. W tych ramach omówiono zakres i strukturę monografii, która nie ogranicza się do przestawienia aktualnego stanu prawnego, ale dokumentuje również ewolucję prawa alimentacyjnego, wytycza nowe kierunki rozwoju, a także zawiera propozycje zmian legislacyjnych. Autor wskazuje cechy wyróżniające ocenianą monografię od innych opracowań dostępnych na rynku podkreślając wyjątkowo szeroką analizę orzecznictwa sądów apelacyjnych. Szerszej analizie i ocenie poddano zagadnienia związane z pieczą naprzemienną, alimentacją pomałżeńską, świadczeniami socjalnymi, pozycją prawną ojca biologicznego oraz alimentacją transgraniczną. Z perspektywy prawnoporównawczej zauważono natomiast skromne odniesienia do prawa obcego, które warto poszerzyć i usystematyzować. Oceny monografii dokonano zarówno pod względem naukowym jak i praktycznym. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono przy tym na możliwość wykorzystania niemieckich regulacji i doświadczenia w polskim porządku prawnym.
This article reviews the German book on the maintenance law Unterhaltsprozess (Eschenbruch, Wolters Kluwer 2021). The author searches for the multidimensionality of maintenance, both in the national and international dimension, and the assessment takes into account the interdisciplinary and the cross-border nature of this issue, which combines family law with public, social, procedural, tax, European, and private international law. Within this framework, the scope and structure of the monograph is discussed, which is not limited to presenting the current legal regulation, but also documents the evolution of the maintenance law, sets new directions for development, and includes proposals for legislative changes. The author indicates features that distinguish the reviewed monograph from other studies available on the market, emphasizing the exceptionally broad analysis of the jurisprudence of courts of appeal. The issues related to joint custody, post-marital maintenance, social benefits, the legal position of the biological father, and cross-border maintenance, were subject to a broader analysis and assessment. From the comparative legal perspective, however, attention is drawn to the modest references to foreign law, which call for further expansion and systematization. The monograph is assessed both in terms of research and practice. Particular attention is paid to the possibility of using German regulations and experience in the Polish legal system.

W artykule scharakteryzowano strategie eksploatacji urządzeń technicznych. Przedstawiono ich ewolucję z uwzględnieniem zmian filozofii i kryteriów eksploatacji. Dokonano analizy strategii eksploatacji według kryteriów niezawodności, możliwości jej stosowania w aspekcie wspierania procesu decyzyjnego eksploatacji sprzętu. Omówiono strategię eksploatacji RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance), która może być i jest coraz częściej stosowana w procesach utrzymania maszyn oraz w aspekcie realizacji m.in. procesów produkcyjnych w przedsiębiorstwie. Dokonano oceny możliwości stosowania strategii w wojskowym systemie eksploatacji.
The article discusses the strategies for using the equipment. The authors remind the evolution of the development of exploitation strategies. The exploitation strategy according to reliability and the possibilities of its application in the aspect of supporting the decision process of equipment operation is analyzed. The RCM strategy is discussed, which can be successfully applied in the aspect of the reliability of the implementation of, among ot hers, production processes in the enterprise.

Afghan highlands, landscape and altitude above the sea level, and geographical situation influence on the climate. Engines’ operation are very different from their work in European plains. Mountainous terrain variability has a significant impact on operation mode of the car’s chassis and transmission, and climate change determines the engine performance parameters. Mentioned factors result in technical performance characteristics and their costs. Defining requirements to preventive measures for technical failure would reduce technical repair costs and rational technical maintenance frequency would save funds for maintenance.

Operational reliability of conveyor transport systems is a problem that relates to the provision of an adequate level of availability of a continuous transport system, which in the case of belt conveyors depends not only on their usability, as determined by their design and manufacture, but also on the appropriate level of their use, understood, among others, as the degree of sophistication and effectiveness of the methods and tools applied in industrial diagnosis of those devices. The present article describes the most popular diagnostic systems used in the maintenance of internal transport conveyor systems. Also a new method of computer-aided maintenance of such systems is presented.
Niezawodność eksploatacyjna systemów transportu przenośnikowego, to zagadnienie dotyczące zapewnienia odpowiedniego poziomu gotowości systemu transportu ciągłego, który w przypadku przenośników taśmowych zależny jest nie tylko od ich walorów użytkowych, determinowanych zastosowanymi rozwiązaniami konstrukcyjnymi i wykonawstwem, ale też zależy w istotnym stopniu od właściwego poziomu ich użytkowania, rozumianego między innymi jako stopień zaawansowania i skuteczności zastosowanych metod i narzędzi diagnostyki przemysłowej. W artykule scharakteryzowano najpopularniejsze systemy diagnostyczne stosowane w eksploatacji przenośnikowych systemów transportu wewnątrzzakładowego. Zaprezentowano również nową metodę komputerowego wspomagania w utrzymaniu ruchu tego typu systemów.

The Commission Regulation (EU) No 445/2011 introduced requirements on certification system for Entities in Charge of Maintenance (ECM). It contains requirements regarding the need to create and, more importantly, verify by the certifying body of the Maintenance Management System (MMS). It assumes that only Entities in Charge of Maintenance for freight wagons will be subject to certification. With the development of legislation on the safety of rail transport the extension of ECM certification began. The article presents the proposal of the European Union Agency for Railways to extend the scope of Commission Regulation (EU) No. 445/2011 and discusses the most important changes.

Maintenance can improve a system’s reliability in a long operation period or when a component has failed. The reliability modeling method that uses the stochastic process degradation model to describe the system degradation process has been widely used. However, the existing reliability models established using stochastic processes only consider the internal degradation process, and do not fully consider the impact of external random shocks on their reliability modeling. Furthermore, the existing theory of importance does not consider the actual factors of maintenance cost. In this paper, based on the reliability modeling of random processes, the degradation rate under the influence of random shocks is introduced into the time scale function to solve the impact of random shocks on product reliability, and two cost importance measures are proposed to guide the maintenance selection of the components under limited resources in the system. Finally, a subsystem of an aircraft hydraulic system is analyzed to verify the proposed method’s performance.

Based on the main objectives of this organization, there was specyfied the set of structural and system connections into maintenance organization. The set was extracted from the model called Business Centered Maintenance. Then there presented and discussed the possibility of modeling of the maintenance organization using two-and three-dimensional models.
W artykule dokonano przeglądu i oceny wybranych sposobów modelowania elementów organizacji utrzymania ruchu. W oparciu o przedstawione główne cele takiej organizacji, wyróżniono zbiór powiązań strukturalnych i systemowych z wykorzystaniem modelu Business Centered Maintenance. Następnie zaprezentowano i omówiono możliwości modelowania organizacji utrzymania ruchu z wykorzystaniem modeli dwu i trójwymiarowych.

The authors present a method for determining the optimal interval for preventive periodical maintenance and an optimal diagnostic parameter for predictive maintenance/replacement. Additionally, the authors raise the question: how does preventive maintenance influence the probability of failure and the operational reliability of system elements that have undergone preventive periodical maintenance? They answer the question using analytical and simulation computing approaches. The results are in quantitative form, giving relationships between preventive maintenance intervals and reliability functions. Examples demonstrate suitability of the method for typical engineering objects using a three parameters Weibull distribution. Application of the method is of substantial benefit to both the manufacturer and the user of technical equipment.
Autorzy przedstawiają metodę określania optymalnego czasu przerwy na okresową konserwację zapobiegawczą oraz optymalnego parametru diagnostycznego dla konserwacji predykcyjnej/wymiany Dodatkowo, autorzy zadają pytanie, jaki jest wpływ konserwacji zapobiegawczej na prawdopodobieństwo wystąpienia uszkodzenia oraz na niezawodność eksploatacyjną elementów systemu, w stosunku do których zastosowano okresową konserwację zapobiegawczą. Odpowiedzi na te pytania, autorzy poszukują posługując się metodami analizy i symulacji komputerowej. Wyniki podane w formie ilościowej, informują o związkach między przerwami na konserwację predykcyjną a funkcjami niezawodnościowymi. Podane przykłady pokazują, z wykorzystaniem trójparametrowego rozkładu Weibulla, że proponowana metoda może być stosowana w przypadku typowych obiektów inżynieryjnych. Zastosowanie omawianej metody przynosi znaczące korzyści zarówno wytwórcom jak i użytkownikom sprzętu technicznego.

The article presents the author’s original method of optimisation of the technical object maintenance system taking account of risk analysis results. An original form of the objective function was formulated, in which a risk measure model based on two criteria was used. RBM methods were discussed and technical object maintenance methods/strategies were reviewed, with their most important characteristics pointed out. The process of making maintenance-related decisions is armed with procedures based on a risk valuation pattern. The author’s original risk valuation pattern was presented and special cases resulting from the use of such patterns were discussed. Dynamic programming was used to solve the problem of optimisation. The author’s original mathematical model of the method of optimisation was developed and presented, and its four-stage calculation algorithm was presented in detail. Based on the collected statistical data on damage, hazard analysis and risk assessment procedures were carried out. Using computer implementation of the optimisation model, an experiment in planning the maintenance of the technical objects examined was carried out and the results of the optimisation experiment were presented.
W artykule przedstawiono autorską metodę optymalizacji systemu obsługi obiektów technicznych z uwzględnieniem wyników analizy ryzyka. Sformułowano oryginalną postać funkcji celu, w której użyto modelu miary ryzyka opartego na dwóch kryteriach. Omówiono metody RBM oraz dokonano przeglądu metod/strategii obsługiwania obiektów technicznych wskazując ich najważniejsze cechy. Podejmowanie decyzji obsługowych uzbrojone jest w procedury oparte na schemacie wartościowania ryzyka. Przedstawiono autorski schemat wartościowania ryzyka i omówiono szczególne przypadki wynikające z użycia takich schematów. Do rozwiązania problemu optymalizacji użyto programowania dynamicznego. Opracowano i przedstawiono autorski matematyczny model metody optymalizacji oraz szczegółowo zaprezentowano jego czteroetapowy algorytm obliczeniowy. Na podstawie zebranych danych statystycznych dotyczących uszkodzeń, przeprowadzono procedury w zakresie analizy zagrożeń i oceny ich ryzyka. Wykorzystując implementację komputerową modelu optymalizacyjnego przeprowadzono eksperyment w zakresie planowania obsług rozpatrywanych obiektów technicznych oraz przedstawiono wyniki eksperymentu optymalizacyjnego.

Ship maintenance is regulated by both the state and the classification society. The scope of maintenance works depends on the age of the ship and includes a dock, intermediate and special inspection. The problem is to estimate the reliable time of the ship maintenance and the downtime at the shipyard. The purpose of this article is to develop a more accurate model to predict a ship’s overall maintenance time. A multiple linear regression model is developed to describe the impact of historical data on hull repair, painting time, piping, age, structural and hull plate replacement for ship maintenance. In the literature, the least squares method is used to estimate unknown regression coefficients. The original value of the article is the use of a genetic algorithm to estimate coefficient values of the multiple linear regression model. Necessary analysis and simulations are performed on the data collected for oil and chemical or product tankers. As a result, a significant improvement in the adequacy of the presented model was identified.

A joint optimization model of maintenance and operation of high-speed train fleets is established with the optimization objective of minimizing the total costs, considering dynamic passenger flow and maintenance resources. A new maintenance strategy CCPM (Coordinating Conflicts Preventive Maintenance) is proposed to optimize the problem. The effectiveness of the model and the strategy are verified by numerical examples. The comparison between the strategy in the paper and the existing approach proves that the new strategy is more effective and shows the importance of considering dynamic passenger flow. The model and the strategy provide decision support for the actual high-speed trains operation and maintenance program. This study also offers new ideas to the subsequent research on preventive maintenance of high-speed trains.

Predictive maintenance is very important for effective prevention of failures in an industry. The present paper describes a case study where a wood chip pump system was analyzed, and a predictive model was proposed. An Ishikawa diagram and FMECA are used to identify possible causes for system failure. The Chip Wood has several sensors installed to monitor the working conditions and system state. The authors propose a variation of exponential smoothing technique for short time forecasting and an artificial neural network for long time forecasting. The algorithms were integrated into a dashboard for online condition monitoring, where the users are alerted when a variable is determined or predicted to get out of the expected range. Experimental results show prediction errors in general less than 10 %. The proposed technique may be of help in monitoring and maintenance of the asset, aiming at greater availability.

This research includes two topics: (1) the modeling of periodic preventive maintenance policies over an infi nite time span for repairable systems with the reduction of the degradation rate after performing an imperfect preventive maintenance (PM) activity; (2) the parameter estimation of failure distribution and the restoration effect of PM from the proposed PM policy for deteriorating systems. The concept of the improvement factor method is applied to measure the restoration effect on the degradation rate for a system after each PM. An improvement factor is presented as a function of the system's age and the cost of each PM. A periodic PM model is then developed. The optimal PM interval and the optimal replacement time for the proposed model can be obtained by minimizing the objective functions of the cost rate through the algorithms provided by this research. An example of using Weibull failure distribution is provided to investigate the proposed model. The method is proposed to estimate the parameters of the failure process and the improvement effect after each PM by analyzing maintenance and failure log data. In this method, a PSO-based method is proposed for automatically constructing a fuzzy system with an appropriate number of rules to approach the identifi ed system. In the PSO-based method, each individual in the population is constructed to determine the number of fuzzy rules and the premise part of the fuzzy system, and then the recursive least-squares method is used to determine the consequent part of the fuzzy system constructed by the corresponding individual. Consequently, an individual corresponds to a fuzzy system. Subsequently, a fi tness function is defi ned to guide the searching procedure to select an appropriate fuzzy system with the desired performance. Finally, two identifi cation problems of nonlinear systems are utilized to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method for fuzzy modeling.

In order to be able to use the method of surveying satisfaction of production departments with the services provided by maintenance departments, one must first acquire and analyse considerable amounts of data. Such an attempt may only be successful if an appropriate information tool is used. This article provides a discussion on the concept of an MS Excel spreadsheet application for the sake of creating such a tool. The author has proposed a specific data structure enabling storage of the data acquired in the course of research. The entities occurring in it have been identified and discussed, and so have the attributes assigned to individual entities. The author has also elaborated on the spreadsheet mechanisms which allow for data processing in accordance with the premises of the aforementioned method.

Reliability is a collective term covering several abilities of the technical system: to deliver required functions, to uphold quality of products and services, to assure that the safety requirements associated with the system are properly fulfilled with regards both to the users and the environment and finally to uphold the durability of the technical system during its whole life cycle. All this has to be performed at acceptable risks, optimal cost, and correspond to operational needs of the business. Even though there is an advanced, well thought-out concept for this purpose - reliability centred maintenance (RCM) - that correctly applied might result in very good quality maintenance programs, it is not broadly used in the industry due to the vast efforts required for its implementation. An appropriate methodology supporting systematic functional break down of a studied systems, and guidelines how to couple functional failures to failure modes, integrated with RCM, would greatly speed up generating of effective maintenance programs. In this paper we present our research towards development of such a methodology, and show a pilot implementation to analysis of machine tool spindle. The methodology is based on Hubka's theory of design and AFD/TRIZ.

Przedstawiona praca ma na celu opis różnych systemów zarządzania utrzymaniem ruchu stosowanych w ostatnich latach przez czeskie przedsiębiorstwa ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem zakładów rolno-przemysłowych. W pracy główną uwagę skupiono na systemach zarządzania utrzymaniem ruchu wspieranych przez systemy informatyczne (IS) oraz na problemie ich wdrażania w przedsiębiorstwach. Użycie systemu informatycznego pomaga w tworzeniu różnych scenariuszy, przy czym nacisk kładzie się na zapotrzebowanie na instrumenty analityczne służące do integracji przetwarzanych danych w celu polepszenia wydajności systemu utrzymania ruchu oraz rozpoznawania jego słabych punktów. Podczas gdy użycie systemów informatycznych wspomagających zarządzanie utrzymaniem ruchu (ang. maintenance management information system, MMIS) jest powszechne w zakładach rolno-przemysłowych przemysłu wytwórczego, podstawowa produkcja rolna oraz obsługa maszyn rolniczych czekają jeszcze na ich wdrożenie. W artykule opisano także możliwe zastosowania MMIS w zakładach rolno-spożywczych oraz różnice w aplikacji i potencjalnym wykorzystaniu MMIS w przypadku prac w zakresie utrzymania ruchu maszyn i urządzeń rolniczych całkowicie lub częściowo zleconych firmom zewnętrznym.
The purpose of this paper is to describe different maintenance management systems being used by Czech companies with a view to the agro-industrial complex in recent years. The paper focuses on maintenance management systems supported by information system (IS) and their implementation in companies. The use of IS helps to create a variety of scenarios with an emphasis on the need for analytical instruments processing data integration in order to improve the efficiency of the maintenance system and identify its weaknesses. While the maintenance management information system (MMIS) is widespread within the agro-industrial scope in the manufacturing industry, in primary agricultural production and agricultural machinery servicing, it has yet to be utilized. The paper also describes some possible applications of MMIS in the sphere of the agro-industrial complex, the differences between their applications and the potential use of MMIS in the case of fully or partially outsourced agricultural equipment maintenance.

Productive management of possessed infrastructure is one of the factors that determine competitiveness specific efficiency and production ability. In fact, the proper operating of devices in the enterprise is a very important element of system of machine operation management. Proper operating demands specific actions due to having certain production demands, priorities and supervision. Issues connected with traditional and modern stock of machine tools management were presented in this paper. Methods of technical infrastructure management of enterprise and their advantages and drawbacks were discussed too. Special importance is given to TPM - an innovative approach towards machine operation, the reduction of stoppages and elimination of sources of wastage. Key aspects of TPM implementation process which requires eg. systemic everyday work (5S), were presented. Beside technical and personal problems, the area of fulfilling the rules of safe work with machining devices was discussed. Stages of searching for incompatibilities, generating of necessary documents and establishing essential areas of technical condition of machines conditions were showed.

This paper presents an algorithm to solve the problem of maintenance management of a two state parallel-series system based on preventive maintenance over the different system components. It is assumed that all components of the system exhibit Weibull hazard function and constant repair rate and that preventive maintenance would bring the system to the as good as new condition. The algorithm calculates the interval of time between preventive maintenance tasks for each component, minimizing the costs, and in such a way that the total downtime, in a certain period of time, does not exceed a predetermined value. It is presented an industrial case study where the algorithm is applied.

Failures are a problem for every company that causes the plant to stop working and thus incur losses. It is therefore obvious that companies want to eliminate unplanned downtime in the production process. In the wake of the still increasing demands in terms of productivity and safety requirements, cost reduction, the industry is forced to seek the optimum between economic requirements and an acceptable level of risk in terms of security. Modern factories equipped with computerized processes and extensive diagnostic tools often do not use all the information that is collected from the hardware level. It happens that some of the relationships between events are often overlooked or neglected. The article presents an approach to increasing machine reliability through predictive data analysis. The assumptions of the predictive and preventive maintenance methods are presented. The threats and possibilities offered by this methodology implemented in the production process are presented.
Awarie to problem każdego przedsiębiorstwa powodujący zatrzymanie pracy zakładu a przez to ponoszenie strat. Oczywistym zatem jest, że firmy chcą eliminować nieprzewidziane przestoje w procesie produkcji. W następstwie rosnących wciąż wymagań w zakresie produktywności i wymagań bezpieczeństwa, redukcji kosztów, przemysł zmuszony jest do poszukiwania optimum pomiędzy wymaganiami ekonomicznymi i akceptowalnym poziomem ryzyka w zakresie bezpieczeństwa. Nowoczesne fabryki wyposażone w skomputeryzowane procesy i rozbudowane narzędzia diagnostyczne często nie wykorzystują wszystkich informacji, które są zbierane z poziomu sprzętowego. Zdarza się, że niektóre z relacji pomiędzy zdarzeniami są często pomijane lub zaniedbywane. W artykule przedstawiono podejście do zwiększenia niezawodności maszyn poprzez predykcyjną analizę danych. Zaprezentowano założenia metodyki predictive i preventive maintenance. Przedstawiono zagrożenia i możliwości jakie daje ta metodyka zaimplementowana w procesie produkcyjnym.

Based on the example of 6Dg type diesel locomotives, the paper presents a new maintenance strategy concerning periodical checks at the P1 maintenance level. Currently, such locomotives are sent off to service points every 102 hours of operation or every 14 days for a P1 level check. Studies demonstrate that the average distance to be covered by a locomotive to arrive at a service point is in excess of 60.0 km, and the quantity of fuel consumed is more than 88 litres. It is costly and time consuming to have locomotives out of service and considerable resources of the railway carrier are engaged which could be made use of in the transport process. The aim of the newly developed strategy of P1 checks is to eliminate the need for locomotives to exit their routes to reach rolling stock maintenance points. The control/diagnostic and maintenance activities specified in the Maintenance System Documentation will be performed by socalled mobile maintenance points. The development of the new strategy required: identification of the current condition of the maintenance system, development of the concept of a new strategy of P1 maintenance checks, conduct of studies and operational analyses for SM42 series locomotives, performance of a durability, reliability analysis, assessment of safety together with an analysis of the risks involved in the proposed changes. In order to review and assess the efficiency of the new strategy, an observed operation of selected locomotives was conducted together with a railway carrier. During the study, the maintenance activities and processes were monitored and the costs of P1 checks were recorded. The analysis of efficiency of the new strategy of performing P1 checks without the need for a locomotive to exit its route to reach a rolling stock maintenance point demonstrated that depending on the distance covered by the locomotive to reach a maintenance point, the unit costs of a P1 level check are lower by up to 67.1% compared with the currently applied method.

The accurate assessment of aircraft structure damage risk is the premise of establishing reasonable, economic and reliable maintenance intervals. While many studies have proposed damage risk assessment methods for aircraft structures, these methods lack the quantification of risk. This paper proposed a risk assessment method of aircraft structure damage maintenance interval considering fatigue crack growth rate and crack detection rate. The damage process of aircraft structure was simulated by Monte Carlo simulation to realize the quantitative assessment of aircraft structure damage risk and maintenance interval. Taking an aircraft fleet as an example, the damage risk of its wing structure was simulated and analyzed. The results show that if the risk is controlled within a reasonable range, the maintenance interval should be shortened to 16 flight hours. At the same time, through the analysis of the risk classification standard and the crack detection rate, the quantitative evaluation of the risk classification standard was realized.

Countries need to develop sustainable energy policies based on the principles of environmental sensitivity, reliability, efficiency, economy and uninterrupted service and to maintain their energy supply in order to increase their global competitiveness. In addition to this impact of sustainable energy supply on the global world, maintenance processes in power plants require high costs due to allocated time, materials and labor, and generation loss. Thus, the maintenance needs to be managed within a system. This makes analytical and feasible maintenance planning a necessity in power plants. In this context, this study focuses on maintenance strategy optimization which is the first phase of maintenance planning for one of the large-scale hydroelectric power plants with a direct effect on Turkey's energy supply security with its one fifth share in total generation. In this study, a new model is proposed for the maintenance strategy optimization problem considering the multi-objective and multicriteria structure of hydroelectric power plants with hundreds of complex equipment and the direct effect of these equipment on uninterrupted and cost-effective electricity generation. In the model, two multi-criteria decision-making methods, AHP and COPRAS methods, are integrated with integer programming method and optimal maintenance strategies are obtained for 571 equipment.

The article presents the results of research into the time of work of maintenance department employees in a selected production plant. The measurements have been taken for three selected employees during 9 working days. Major activities performed by the employees have been identified and classified in three basic groups: the effective time devoted to daily duties connected with technical means maintenance, the auxiliary time which involves preparatory and administrative works as well as the ineffective time during which the employees undertook activities not related to the performed work. Among the ineffective and auxiliary activities the longest lasting ones have been specified. By means of the 5Why Method the causes responsible for the occurrence of major ineffective and auxiliary activities have been identified. As a result of the conducted analysis, corrective measures aimed at shortening the time of these activities have been identified, which should contribute to the improvement of maintenance department employees’ work effectiveness.

The maintenance of devices is now a critical element in the functioning of manufacturing enterprises. The situation is similar in the transport industry. The technical condition of the vehicles is dependent upon operational procedures that affect the quality of services, comfort and the amount of incurred operating expenses. The aim of this paper is to compare the standards in vehicle service companies which deal with passenger transport in Poland and South Africa. In this study particular attention is paid to the influence of the human factor (passenger expectations, cultural conditions, required standards) in the implementation of this service. The authors based their research on available literature, newspaper articles, direct observation, surveys among Wroclaw’s inhabitants, and interviews with the residents of Johannesburg and the management staff of transport companies.

Maintaining the aircrafts (AC) of the Polish Armed Forces in operating condition is determined by adequate resources to secure maintenance and repairs possessed by the companies implementing these tasks on them. The article characterises and then describes formally the Aircrafts Maintenance System in the Polish Armed Forces. The assumptions of the aircraft maintenance system model, proposed model structure, and mapping of aircraft maintenance performance were described. The most important elements (such as data, decision variables, boundary conditions and assessment criterion function) of an optimisation task aimed at minimising the executed aircraft maintenances’ costs were formulated. For this purpose, the record of evaluation criterion functions of the companies performing aircraft maintenance was shown. The article was completed with a conclusion, which underlined the importance of the proposed optimisation model. The optimisation model proposed in the article allows evaluating the aircraft maintenances’ organisation and their parameters. The formal record concerns both in the case of one-dimensional maintenance (one aircraft type) and multi-dimensional one (various aircraft types).

Face to the development and competition to competitiveness, which drives the search for quality and above ail; cost reduction, maintenance has become one of the strategic functions in the company. One of the solutions incorporated in management systems is Conditional maintenance that has proved successful; Reduce downtime, optimize manufacturing, ensure safety and profitability of production. For this type of maintenance to be effective, precise and reliable measurements are required. Experience has shown that vibration analysis is the most widely used technique for reliable monitoring and diagnosis. The objective of this work is the study carried out at the Elma Labiod cement plant, which has adopted continuous monitoring in the hope of an optimal approach to conditional maintenance. We use the analysis of global velocity and acceleration levels, spectral analysis and envelope analysis to detect defects and anticipate degradations that can affect a mechanism and determine the probable causes of these malfunctions. In this context, the actual measurements were analyzed by vibratory indicator leading to detection of the weak points causing a malfunction on the machine (rolling bearings), therefor an optimization of the maintenance is realized by monitoring the degradation through on-line control system. The analysis of these vibrations let the possibility to detect and locale the defective components once the fixed corresponding threshold limit of vibration level has been reached.

W artykule poruszono kwestię planowania zasobów przedsiębiorstwa z wykorzystaniem oprogramowania ERP. Efektywne planowanie zarządzania całością zasobów przedsiębiorstwa polega głównie na: - zapewnieniu wysokiej jakości produktów, - maksymalizacji ekonomicznego okresu użytkowania parku maszynowego, - maksymalizacji zdolności produkcyjnych, - minimalizacji kosztów utrzymania sprzętu w sprawności operacyjnej, - zapewnieniu bezpiecznych warunków pracy parku maszynowego. Powyższe zadania mogą być obsługiwane przez oprogramowanie takie jak moduł SAP PM. W tym celu program powinien być odpowiednio dostosowany do potrzeb obiektów offshore. Należy opracować strukturę drzewa obiektów, określić ich krytyczność na podstawie matrycy kryteriów. Matryca ta powinna uwzględniać czynniki związane z bezpieczeństwem, znaczeniem obiektu dla platformy, awaryjnością oraz skomplikowaniem potencjalnego remontu. Ponadto należy opracować plany przeglądów / konserwacji, aby zmaksymalizować dostępność sprzętu i zminimalizować awarie.
The article discusses the issue of enterprise resource planning with the use of ERP software. Effective planning of managing the entire enterprise resources consists mainly in: - ensuring high-quality products, - maximizing the economic period of use of the machine park, - maximizing production capacity, - minimization of equipment maintenance costs in operational efficiency, - ensuring safe working conditions of the machine park. The above tasks can be handled by software such as SAP PM module. For this purpose, the program should be properly adapted to the needs of offshore facilities. A tree structure of objects should be developed, their criticality should be determined on the basis of the matrix of criteria. This matrix should take into account factors related to safety, the importance of the object for the platform, failure rate and complexity of the potential renovation. In addition, inspection / maintenance plans should be developed to maximize equipment availability and minimize breakdowns.

The main groups of processes executed during exploitation phase of a machine are service and operating processes. The main objective of the operating processes is a generation of machine's operation effects. While an objective of the service processes is a reconstruction of object's exploitation properties, which are necessary to proper machine operation. In the case of complex, crucial exploitation systems the service and operating processes can't beperformed in the same time. Then, it is necessary to implement adeąuate strategy of exploitation processes execution. According to carried out studies it was stated that the service and operating processes could be expressed as functions of an operational potential amount included in an exploitation system. It was also stated that execution of the exploitation processes according to the optimal maintenance strategy guaranties minimisation of an operational potential amount untransformed to effects of the exploitation system operation. In the case of the analysed class of complex, crucial, strategic exploitation systems the start moment of the service processes is defined a several months in advance. In this paper, the maintenance strategy by controlled consumption of operational potential is presented. The strategy is formulated as an optimal method of exploitation processes execution. It is especially useful in the case of complex systems where it should be make a most of the operational potential.

This paper is part of the study, for the creation of maintenance engineering culture and a system capable to control the input and output of vehicles operation and maintenance in developing countries. The focus of this paper will be the use of digital technologies to change business models, basing on the analyses of the data collected to develop innovation in transport system by creation of a system that works according to the local needs. This work has, as case of study, the transport system in Cape Verde (Praia city); a bus company, operating in the city for more than 40 years, will provide the data for analyses. The study of the exploitation efficiency of the transport system will focus in the analyses of the data collected, after the definition of the data for collection, is defined how the data will be analysed and used in order to create the desired solution. In this paper is also defined the platform used for data collection. The definition and selection of the vehicle systems/components for data collection has been supported by engineers and mechanics with long experience and knowledge of the local situation as well as vehicles operation and maintenance. The information that, if collected and analysed correctly, can help transform the vehicle operation and maintenance, data collection can empower us to direct resources toward the modules that are in most pressing need of technical refinement. With this knowledge base, we will be able to use predictive analysis to identify what, how and where to improve the services and manage the vehicle maintenance and operation.

We investigate the asymptotic behavior of total down time of a system in which the breakdown process is an alternating renewal process, under the assumption that the probability of breakdown in a single cycle converges to zero. Using a theorem of R. Serfozo [J. Appl. Probab. 17 (1980), no. 2, 423–431; MR0568952], we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the convergence of the total down time to a compound Poisson process. We use these results in analyzing three examples: pairs of elements subject to detectable and undetectable breakdown (the Murphy and Phillips models), pairs of elements with a cold reserve served by one server; and an element with a temporal reserve.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma is a rare neoplasm with poor prognosis. Surgical complete resection, which is the only radical therapy available, is only possible in a minority of patients who suffer from a locally advanced disease. Radiotherapy can be considered as an adjuvant therapy after surgery or as supportive treatment in palliative care. Attempts are also made at combining it with chemotherapy. In cases of locally advanced, non-resectable or metastatic disease, chemotherapy remains the treatment of choice. The most effective palliative chemotherapy is the pemetrexed plus cisplatin regimen. We describe 3 cases of patients who underwent standard palliative chemotherapy with pemetrexed and cisplatin, manifesting good radiological and clinical response, followed by maintenance therapy with pemetrexed. The use of pemetrexed maintenance therapy helped achieve many years of disease control with acceptable toxicity. The consecutive stages of therapy were continuously discussed with our patients, and their informed consent was obtained. Pemetrexed maintenance therapy is not a standard procedure, but recent findings suggest it may be an efficacious option to consider in selected groups of patients. Further randomized prospective studies are needed, but a limiting factor is the rarity of the disease.

Previous studies of reliability centered maintenance (RCM) rarely consider the maintenance quality for the operation condition monitoring of manufacturing system. Therefore, a quality-oriented maintenance approach for the multistate manufacturing system with the aid of mission reliability is proposed. First, connotations of the mission reliability and maintenance quality of the multistate manufacturing system are expounded on the basis of the operational mechanism. Second, a quality stochastic flow network (QSFN) model of the multistate manufacturing system is established, and a novel mission reliability model is presented. Third, a quality-oriented mission reliability–centered maintenance framework for multistate manufacturing systems is proposed, and the optimal integrated maintenance strategy is obtained by minimizing the total cost. Finally, an industrial example of subway flow receiver is presented to verify the proposed method. Results show that the proposed method can simultaneously balance the maintenance cost and maintenance quality of the multistate manufacturing system.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki wdrożenia koncepcji Kompleksowego Utrzymania Ruchu (TPM) w jednym z zakładów produkcyjnych na terenie Polski, będącym filią międzynarodowej korporacji działającej w branży elektrotechnicznej. Celem badania było potwierdzenie korzyści uzyskiwanych z programu TPM, jednakże na poziomie całego zakładu. Było to zadanie złożone dla tego studium przypadku z uwagi na różnorodność i ilość wyposażenia produkcyjnego. Zebrane dane na przestrzeni ostatnich kilku lat poddano analizie, a jej wynik potwierdza nie tylko słuszność postawionej tezy o skuteczności koncepcji TPM do obniżenia poziomu awarii, ale również daje rekomendacje dla dalszego rozwoju koncepcji w tej firmie i wskazówki dla zarządu. W artykule podkreślono również efekt współdziałania koncepcji TPM z innymi programami ciągłego doskonalenia.
This paper presents a substantial results of the concept of Total Productive Maintenance in one of production sites in Poland, which is a subsidiary of an international corporation operating in the electronic industry. The aim of the study was to confirm the common benefits derived from the TPM program, but at the level of the whole plant, which was a complex task for this case study because of the variety and quantity of production equipment utilized. The data collected over the last few years were analyzed, and the result confirms not only the validity of the bet thesis about the effectiveness of TPM to reduce the level of breakdowns but also gives recommendations for the further development of the improvement initiative in this company and guidance to the board. The article also highlights the effect of interaction between TPM and other programs of continuous improvement.

The maintenance planning corresponds to an approach that seeks to maximize the availability of equipment and, consequently, increase the levels of competitiveness of companies by increasing production times. This paper presents a maintenance planning based on operating variables (number of hours worked, duty cycles, number of revolutions) to maximizing the availability of operation of electrical motors. The reading of the operating variables and its sampling is done based on predetermined sampling cycles and subsequently is made the data analysis through time series algorithms aiming to launch work orders before reaching the variables limit values. This approach is supported by tools and technologies such as logical applications that enable a graphical user interface for access to relevant information about their Physical Asset HMI (Human Machine Interface), including the control and supervision by acquisition through SCADA (Supervisory Control And data acquisition) data, also including the communication protocols among different logical applications.
Planowanie utrzymania ruchu odpowiada podejściu, które ma na celu maksymalizację dostępności wyposażenia, a w konsekwencji zwiększenie poziomu konkurencyjności przedsiębiorstw przez zwiększenie czasów produkcji. W artykule przedstawiono planowanie utrzymania ruchu w oparciu o zmienne operacyjne (liczba przepracowanych godzin, cykle robocze, liczba obrotów) w celu maksymalizacji dostępności pracy silników elektrycznych. Odczytywanie zmiennych operacyjnych i pobieranie próbek odbywa się na podstawie ustalonych z góry cykli próbkowania, następnie dokonuje się analizy danych za pomocą algorytmów szeregowania czasowego mających na celu uruchomienie zleceń roboczych przed osiągnięciem zmiennych wartości dopuszczalnych. Podejście to jest wspierane przez narzędzia i technologie, takie jak aplikacje logiczne, które umożliwiają wykorzystanie graficznego interfejsu użytkownika w celu uzyskania dostępu do istotnych informacji o ich zasobach fizycznych HMI (Human Machine Interface), w tym kontroli i nadzoru przez pozyskanie z wykorzystaniem SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) danych, w tym również protokołów komunikacyjnych pomiędzy różnymi aplikacjami logicznymi.

Celem artykułu jest zaprezentowanie wyników przeprowadzonych badań w zakresie sposobów wykorzystania metod modelowania procesów eksploatacyjnych w zastosowaniach praktycznych (przemysłowych). W pierwszej kolejności dokonano identyfikacji i klasyfikacji stosowanych w tym zakresie rozwiązań, zwrócono przy tym uwagę na problemy związane z modelowaniem procesów w aspekcie szerszego ujęcia organizacyjno-technicznego. W oparciu o przeprowadzone badania, które miały charakter zarówno podstawowy (teoretyczny), jak i przemysłowy, sformułowano problem badawczy. Jego istota sprowadza się do trudności wykorzystania modeli procesów eksploatacji w odniesieniu do funkcjonujących organizacji utrzymania ruchu przedsiębiorstw przemysłowych ze względu na ich "płaski" charakter. W oparciu o sformułowany problem badawczy zaproponowano sposób jego rozwiązania poprzez zastosowanie do modelowania procesów eksploatacji technik scenariuszowych. Następnie po dokonaniu przeglądu stanu wiedzy (literatury) w aspekcie budowy scenariuszy eksploatacyjnych, opracowano i przedstawiono szczegółowo procedurę prowadzenia badań, których efektem będzie opracowanie metodologii tworzenia scenariuszy eksploatacyjnych, z uwzględnieniem sposobu praktycznego ich wykorzystania. Artykuł jest wynikiem realizacji części badań w ramach projektu badawczego, finansowanego ze środków Narodowego Centrum Nauki nr 5636/B/T02/2011/40 pt.: Wykorzystanie metod scenariuszowych w modelowaniu procesów eksploatacyjnych
This article aims at presenting the results of research use of modelling of exploitation processes in practical applications (industrial). Firstly, there has been made an identification and of solutions in this area, particular attention was paid equally to the problems associated with processes modelling in the context of wider organizational and technical approach. Basing on the performed studies, of both basic (theoretical) and industrial character, the research problem has been defined. It concentrates on the difficulties of using exploitation process models in relation to the maintenance organization in an industrial enterprise, because of their "flat" nature. Based on the developed research problem, there has been proposed a way of its solution by applying scenario techniques. Secondly, following a review of the state of knowledge (literature) in the context of exploitation scenario building, there has been prepared and presented a detailed research procedure, that will result in the development of methodology for creation of exploitation scenarios, including the way of their use in practice. A proper decision-making scheme for track geometry maintenance requires a knowledge of the real condition of track geometry. Therefore, the track must be inspected by measurement cars at different time intervals. The frequency of track geometry inspection plays a crucial role in decision-making and has always been a big concern for infrastructure managers. The inspection interval should be chosen properly, it means that the small period can decrease the capacity of line and affect the operation of network and the big period can result in low quality of track and in some cases derailments and possible loss of human lives. The aim of this paper is to determine the effective inspection interval such that the total maintenance cost is minimized. In the proposed cost model, the costs of inspection, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and the penalty for exceeding the corrective maintenance level are considered. A case study is performed on a real dataset collected from a railway line in Iran. The standard deviation of longitudinal level is considered to measure track geometry degradation. A widely applied linear model is used to model track geometry degradation over time. Monte Carlo technique is used to simulate the track geometry behavior under various track geometry inspection intervals. In addition, a set of sensitivity analyses are carried out to assess the effect of various inspection intervals on different terms of maintenance cost. The results indicate that not only can substantial costs be saved by setting effective inspection intervals, but also the time during which the track suffers from bad conditions is dramatically reduced. The result of this study has shown the appropriate inspection interval for the studied case can result in 13.6 percent decrease in maintenance cost in comparison with the current maintenance policy. Besides, it would lead to more reliable railway track by preventing the system exceed the corrective threshold.

Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) implementation provides measures that signify progress towards implementing an RCM based maintenance program. Using numbers identified during the Analysis Phase as a basis, the metrics concentrate on the number and percentage of each category (new task, modified task, cancellation of specified old program tasks, design modifications, operational procedure changes, etc., that have actually been implemented. Implementation will (or should) usually begin during the Analysis Phase of an RCM project, and may provide information for improvement of the analysis. Implementation involves many activities, such as: Identification of resources (money, time, manpower), Coordination with governing authorities or other parties affected, Procedure writing, walk down and approval, Procurement of special tools, parts and consumables needed to carry out the procedures mandated under the new program, Training or at least orientation on the new procedures for those who are to perform them, Planning and scheduling of new RCM based procedures, Actual execution the first time on the asset that was subject of the RCM Project.

The carried on studies consider a crucial complex exploitation system of strategic importance from the national economy point of view. In case ofsuch class of systems, operation and service processes should be executed according to maintenance strategy named maintenance strategy by controlled consumption of operational potential. Thanks to it, optimal amount of operational potential included in the system can be transformed into the effect of the system operation. To execute exploitation processes according to the mentioned above strategy a model of operational potential consumption process should be implemented. The model estimates amount of operational potential consumed during exploitation processes execution. During carried out studies, models used to manage exploitation systems maintenance were identified. In the paper, identified models are divided into groups of analytical, stochastic and system ones. Next, usefulness of each group of models to control processes of exploitation phase of crucial complex strategic exploitation systems was discussed. As a result it was stated that it is necessary to create the universal system model, which can project influence of forcing factors on a s tate of technical object being a part of considered class of technical systems. In the paper, a structure of created universal system model was also proposed. This model was created by implementation the artificial intelligence techniques in form of genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic. Fuzzy logic was used to model approximate character of model input data and genetic algorithms were used to optimize a value of model output data.

The maintenance of helicopters at the airports of the Polish Armed Forces in the state of technical efficiency determines the possession – by the entity securing their maintenance, repair – of appropriate resources and the maintenance system. The article presents the current state of the operation processes of helicopters in the Polish Army. The characteristics of the helicopter maintenance system model and the basic assumptions were described, and the mathematical records of input data to the system were identified and presented. The selected elements of the optimisation task, its decision variables, and constraints were formulated. The initial assessment of the quality of the proposed solution of the helicopter maintenance system model. The essence of the system optimisation problem, which relates to minimising the cost function and maximising the system’s readiness function, was emphasised. In addition, an example of appropriateness of applying such an approach is presented on the basis of the School Aviation Base. The article was concluded with a short summary, which stressed the importance of this type of the optimisation system.

The paper presents an outline of a new strategy to improve operational system of military motor vehicles. Technical diagnostics method is a tool for controlling the motor vehicles maintenance in the state of their functional and professional operability. Three criteria have been assumed to control and maintain vehicles in the state of their technical operability, effectiveness and safety. It was found that the safety of military vehicles is controllable by board-external diagnostic systems as well as diagnostic systems as part of their operating systems. An algorithm is presented for diagnosing, maintaining, and assessing vehicles security in combat. It was found necessary to develop an improved technology for vehicles maintenance, including technological processes, organization of the processes implementation progress and their infrastructure. The organizational chart has been presented of the motor vehicles technological diagnostics and maintenance process. The paper also includes the concept for assessment of the vehicles operational effectiveness based on criteria of the static and dynamic coefficient of technical readiness and costs.

The research, determining the potential of network of maintenance workshops for agricultural machinery. A survey was conducted in 30 maintenance workshops in Western Pomerania in 2009. The study period covered the years 2007–2008, when 8,476 repairs were made. The analysed workshops have experienced staff with appropriate qualifications. 63.4% are employees with formal experience between 11 and 20 years. Employees with experience below 10 years amount 34% of staff. The demand for repair services is generated by the implementation of field work. During this period, the potential of staff and maintenance positions is fully used, while during off-season there is a significant surplus of service supply over demand. Annually, this surplus is 530% in the area of maintenance services for agricultural machinery. The effective use of the potential of the repair shops employees in the surveyed period was 30.5%.

The article presents numerous problems with standby batteries used in telecommunications systems, with a particular emphasis placed on the assessment of their real capacity. The methods used to evaluate the technical condition of batteries and to measure their real capacity are presented. Also, the a new test device which measures the actual battery capacity is presented. The said measurement is based on the discharge test method and is performed with the use of a new TBA-A automated test unit. The article is targeted for electronic designers, managers and telecommunications hardware maintenance personnel, as well as for other telecommunications systems experts.

The article deals with the research of operational reliability of forest felling machines with the method FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and its implementation for observed machines in the organization. Forwarders 810D by John Deere were chosen for this research. The research was realized in real operational conditions. Application of the FMEA method allows flexibility in case of unexpected situations and optimization of human potential abilities. FMEA tool is a tool preventing outages operational reliability and preventive tool for ensuring the maintenance of facilities. This paper explores and verifies the operational reliability theory in practical real-world conditions, resulting in a reduction in operating (variable) costs, minimization of failures and readiness and increased performance of observed machines.

Machine failures have destructive effects on continuity of operation and lead to production losses in long-wall mines, making proper maintenance scheduling essential. This paper models the reliability of the whole production chain in an Iranian long-wall mine including the drum shearer, Armored Face Conveyor (AFC), hydraulic powered supports, Beam Stage Loader (BSL), and main conveyer belt. Analyzing the computational results and failure frequencies, we rank the critical components and develop a reliability-based preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment. In respect to the data classification, conveyor belt with failure abundance of 41.5 percent is the most critical, while powered supports with the failure abundance of 1.2 percent shows the best performance. Approximately, the reliability of the production process after four hours reaches nearly to zero. Implementing the schedule, computational results suggest an increase of approximately 67.7 percent in the average production per shift.

Flexible operation of coal-fired power plants contributes to the intensification of the life consumption processes, which is a serious problem especially in the case of units with a long in-service time. In steam turbine rotors, the crack propagation rate and material wear caused by low-cycle fatigue increase. The aim of the research is an attempt to forecast the development of these processes and to estimate the probability of critical elements damage, such as the high-pressure and intermediate-pressure rotors. In the stress state analyses, the finite element method (FEM) is used, the Monte Carlo method and the second order reliability method (SORM) is apply to calculate the probability of failure. It is proposed to use risk analysis to plan preventive maintenance of the turbine. The optimal intervals for carrying out diagnostic tests and prophylactic repairs is determined for various operating scenarios and various failure scenarios. This enables a reduction of the costs while ensuring the safety of the turbine's operation.

The approaches to managing our road transportation infrastructure are not sustainable. A sustainable road transport infrastructure must meet the needs of present road users and give allowance to accommodate future developments. There is a gap between expected life span of roads in Nigeria and actual life span after putting the infrastructure into use. This paper examined the reasons government cannot repair roads in Nigeria, identify the challenges faced by the construction companies while on road construction projects and the effects of bad roads on national sustainable development. Ministry of Works and Transport, Ibadan and ad hoc staff of two major construction companies Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) and China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) were purposively selected based on the number of roads they have constructed in South-western Nigeria. Principal Component Analysis was used to identify the various factors that are responsible for the inability of government to construct and repair roads. Descriptive analysis was used to explain the challenges of construction companies and also the effects of bad road on national development. The findings identified 20 factors that are responsible for the inability of government to construct and maintain roads which were reduced into eight components. Some challenges in road construction are erosion, inadequate skilled labour, capital for equipment, funding, user’s problem and machinery repairs. The effects of bad roads include: road crashes (27%), high vehicle maintenance cost (21%), capital flight (17%), passengers’ discomfort (14%), high transportation cost (11%) and drivers’ fatigue (10%). The study concluded that, there should be standardized procedure for road construction projects in the form of: penalty for failure to meet the required deadline, quality, usage and rehabilitation in order to achieve sustainable development

Przedstawiono znane, klasyczne metody szacowania - przez systemy równoległo-szeregowe, wykorzystujące metodę włączania-wyłączania oraz ich współczesne modyfikacje. Omówiono nowe metody rozwijane przez Koutrasa oraz metody oparte na wynikach z teorii zbiorów ekstremalnych: twierdzeniu Spernera i twierdzeniu Kruskala- Katony. Na zakończenie przedstawiono pewne wyniki dotyczące systemów wielostanowych, obliczenia i oszacowania ich niezawodności.

As the market imposes constantly increasing levels of reliability and availability of production equipment, it is necessary to shift the focus of maintenance toward predictive strategies. However, as any other investment, implementation of the required condition monitoring systems has to be cost justified. This paper presents a case study showing use of LCC calculations to assess changes of maintenance strategy for a CNC machining centre. It was proven that replacing reactive maintenance tasks with simple condition monitoring and preventive activities results in lower whole life cycle cost of the analysed machining centre.

This paper presents methods to plan predictive maintenance for precision assembly tasks. One of the key aspects of this approach is handling the abnormalities during the development phase, i.e. before and during process implementation. The goal is to identify abnormalities which are prone to failure and finding methods to monitor them. To achieve this, an example assembly system is presented. A Failure Mode and Effects Analysis is then applied to this assembly system to show which key elements influence the overall product quality. Methods to monitor these elements are presented. A unique aspect of this approach is exploring additional routines which can be incorporated in the process to identify machine specific problems. As explained within the paper, the Failure Mode and Effects Analysis shows that the resulting quality in a case study from a precision assembly task is dependent on the precision of the rotational axis. Although the rotational axis plays a significant role in the resulting error, it is hard to explicitly find a correlation between its degradation and produced parts. To overcome this, an additional routine is added to the production process, which directly collects information about the rotational axis. In addition to the overall concept, this routine is discussed and its ability to monitor the rotational axis is confirmed in the paper.

Zmiany gospodarcze wymuszają konieczność ciągłego i systematycznego dostosowywania przedsiębiorstw wodociągowych do nowych warunków techniczno-ekonomicznych. Istotnym elementem wymuszającym poszukiwanie nowych rozwiązań jest znaczny (w Gdańsku ponad 50%) spadek produkcji wody od 1992 r. Znacznym ułatwieniem dla zarządów przedsiębiorstw wodociągowych mogą być pojawiające się nowe narzędzia, wskaźniki i kryteria do porównywania działalności firm wodociągowych nie tylko pod względem technicznym i technologicznym, ale też coraz częściej pod względem ekonomicznym (benchmarking). W pracy omówiono założenia i uwarunkowania wdrażania "procesu utrzymania urządzeń" w latach 2002-2005. Nowe narzędzie pozwoli na zwiększenie możliwości analizowania informacji o realizowanych pracach i ich kosztach, a także ułatwi podejmowanie optymalnych decyzji. Obszar pilotażowy wdrożenia objął swym zasięgiem urządzenia automatyki i telemetrii, energetyki oraz urządzenia do dawkowania chemikaliów (ok. 20% urządzeń będących w eksploatacji). Celem końcowym tego procesu będzie szczegółowa kontrola budżetu przedsiębiorstwa i optymalizacja prac związanych z utrzymaniem jego urządzeń, poprzez określenie niezbędnych budżetów operacyjnych oraz ocenę ryzyka stanu wyposażenia.
The continuing changes in Poland's economy and rapid developments in world's technology have become a serious challenge also for water-supply companies, which heave to cope with a variety of new technological and economic issues, and look for adequate solutions. The Waterworks of Gdańsk, for example, have been suffering a considerable drop in water consumption (which has decreased by 50%) since 1992. This considerable decrease in water demand has revealed the adverse effects of the oversized technological systems and insufficient funds for repairs and overhauls in the past. These days, the managers of water supply system may find considerable support owing to the availability of some new tools (parameters, indexes, criteria), which make it possible to compare the performance of water-supply companies not only in technological but also in economic terms (benchmarking). As these tools were developed for the needs of industrial companies, they have to be modified before they are used by water-supply companies. Recently Saur Neptun Gdańsk SA (a Bouygues member) has been audited by the French consulting company Celleron, and the growing role of analyses and reports in the management of the company has created the need of implementing an integrated E&T computer system. Considerable progress has already been achieved in the implementation of this system for the Departments of Operations and Technology, which enabled the decision to be made on the implementation of the Maintenance Saur Neptun Gdańsk in the time span of 2002 to 2005. In the present paper, the assumptions and conditions for the implementation of the Maintenance Process are discussed. The Maintenance Process is a convenient tool providing information not only about the operations being currently performed, but also about the costs involved, which facilitates optimal decision-making. The implementation has been started on a pilot scale, which includes devices made use of in automatic engineering, power engineering and telemetry, as well as the equipment used for dosing chemicals. The final objective of The Process is a detailed control of the budget and the required operating budgets and by assessing the risk of device failure.

The new maintenance system of semi-trailer combination as a most used road freight transport means is the subject of interest in this article. The real experiences from practice and creation of the FMEA analysis of the system using software support are the basis of wear and damage analysis of air brake system components used on the semi-trailer combination. The desire to improve market position of the company, customer satisfaction, but also the product specifications, government regulatory requirements, agency recommendations, and legal implications are the grounds for continuous improvement of the product quality, reliability and safety. These reasons push the product manufacturers to perform risk analyses, which helps them identify and minimize system failures during the life cycle of product. One of the risk analysis techniques recommended by international standards to identify possible failure causes is the FMEA methodology. It helps to locate the failures and reduce their consequences, so that the intended function of the machine is fulfilled. In this paper was presented the wear and damage analysis of individual components of air brake system and creating of the FMECA analysis for semi-trailer combination. Base on them, new methods to detect failures of components of air systems, preventive measures and set up of a new planned preventive maintenance system for air brakes was designed. The cost of the proposed maintenance system is 2.2 times higher than the cost of the current maintenance system, but it minimizes the failures and their consequences (traffic accidents).

The article presents the research on the impact of specific factors on the state of the pressure value in passenger car wheels in service. Data on how the vehicle was used was obtained based on a survey. The survey contained data on checking the condition of the vehicle tires and also measured the tire pressure. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between the impact of specific factors on the state of the pressure value in passenger car wheels. The correlation analysis of the correctness of pressure in car tires and selected factors was carried out using the Kendall tau test. In addition, odds ratio (OR) analysis and the Hosmer and Lemeshow test were used to analyze the results. The work draws attention to the impact of improper tire pressure on tire durability and road safety as well as the functioning of other active safety systems. In addition, attention was drawn to drivers' awareness of the need to control the pressure in the wheels of the vehicle. Based on the analysis it was found that the age of the vehicle used and the driver's knowledge have the greatest impact on the correct tire pressure. Studies have shown that in over 60% of the vehicles analyzed, the tire pressure was normal.

This paper presents theoretical basis for evaluation of the transport system operation quality. A general evaluation model was built, and further part of the paper is to consider the theme of damageability of the means of transport, as a reliability feature, constituting one of the most important criterion to evaluate the transport system operation. Based on the analysed references in question as well as on the results of our own research it has been found that the damages to the means of transport, being utilised within the transport systems, are a result of interaction of various forcing factors. Some number of the damages results from natural wear of the means of transport elements, which is a natural phenomenon, while the remaining damages may be caused by an inefficient repair of the previous damage. This leads to so called secondary damages to the repaired element, occurred within a short time interval, which is a proof of inappropriate organization of the repairs, poor training level of the repairing teams, limits related to pre and after repair diagnosis, which directly affects reliability of the means of transport and consequently the operation quality of the transport systems in which they are being operated and maintained. Based on the analysis of the investigation results it has been found that the primary damages are independent on one another and they occur randomly. The secondary damages are dependent, because their occurrence depends on prior occurrence of the primary damage and the effect of its improper repair or improper repair of the next secondary damage.

Opis:
Modernization of aged rolling stock is one of the possibilities to adapt it to the current requirements for better environmental friendliness and economy of railway transport. However, some vehicle upgrades lead to new failures that were not observed in the original vehicles. The cause is the so-called “hybrid design”, built on a combination of original and selected new components. The aim of the work was to improve the situation with frequent failures and unavailability that occur on the modernized locomotive where a new diesel engine and new electronic control system was installed. Within the work, a simplified methodology for evaluating the outputs of diagnostic equipment was developped based on and applied to specific locomotive type and its diesel engine. The methodology resulted in a significant reduction of the time for assessing the condition of the vehicle’s diesel engine and more effective maintenance. The paper also presents other possibilities in the analysis of big data in the maintenance of rolling stock e.g. using fuzzy logic.

The article presents the results of expert assessment of the quality of three different branches of trucks in terms of their suitability for long-term rental. The expert assessment is faster and cheaper compared to the analogous evaluation obtained on the basis of operational tests, hence the purpose of this article is to assess the accuracy of the results obtained in expert studies. The reliability characteristics of vehicles, such as: readiness, probability of first failure and distribution of mileage between successive repairs, were used as parameters for empirical quality assessment. Operational tests covered three groups of 30 vehicles. As part of the research, changes in vehicle technical readiness occurring during operation were also assessed. The failures of individual functional systems of the vehicle were also analyzed and compared with the results of expert studies. The expert assessment was based on a questionnaire regarding the overall assessment of the reliability and performance of cars. 32 experts - appraisers, with good knowledge of the construction of cars of the tested brands participated in these studies. On the basis of comparisons of the results of the expert assessment with the results of empirical studies, conclusions were drawn regarding the correctness of the assessment made by experts.

European Commission Regulation (EU) No. 445/2011 regarding the system of certification for entities in charge of maintenance (ECM) of freight wagons requires such entities to supervise the condition of wagons, without specifying the methods of supervision to be used. Each ECM should establish a Maintenance Management System (MMS), which will include the obligation to monitor the fleet of freight wagons. Monitoring railway vehicle maintenance operations should include tracking all significant technical and operational indicators. The key question is which indicators are the have the greatest impact on safety. This paper discusses some issues related to the monitoring of maintenance operations for railway vehicles. It also looks at dedicated solutions for entities in charge of the maintenance for freight wagons based on PN-EN 50126:2002 standard and RAMS indicators (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety). This paper describes factor analysis of the proposed indicators as a means of selecting those that have a decisive impact on the correctness of the process for monitoring vehicles. This paper shows an example of the implementation of the requirements of the European Commission Regulation 445/2011 [3] regarding the monitoring of the state of railway vehicles and the possibility of using the information so gained as part of a process of continuous improvement. Reducing the number of indicators will reduce the amount of data needed to calculate all the RAMS indicators, without compromising the benefits of the rail vehicle monitoring system.

Opis:
Storage of zinc wastes is associated with a high risk of environmental pollution. The way to manage the problem is using the waste materials in the transition process, the final product of which is the zinc oxide concentrate. Transition process is technologically complex and every failure to the discipline results in a large number of unscheduled stops. Such an issue was encountered by B. Recycling. An update of environmental regulations has forced a comprehensive modernization of the technology lines used. The implementation of new solutions brought the necessity of examination and evaluation of the effectiveness of the process. In the paper the analysis conducted for this purpose are described. The elements of TPM method were selected as the test method. The OEE, MTBF and MTTR values for the individual process lines and additionally for the most problematic subassemblies were determined basing on the research and collected data.

Opis:
Budget needed for operation and maintenance of centralized domestic wastewater management in Indonesia is often overlooked. This results in fail systems, high idle capacity, and abandoned assets. While the economic feasibility often used as the basis for centralized domestic wastewater infrastructure construction, the financial feasibility often shown a different result. The construction phase will be feasible according the analysis, while the operation and maintenance phase will have a different result. As unsolicited projects, the operation and maintenance of sewerage in Indonesia always have budget difficulties, thus needed scenario to resolve the matter. In this study, cost and revenue variable will be analyzed to determine the feasibility value based on NPV, BCR, and IRR calculations. The revenue comes from user charge tariffs on household and commercials connections, and cost variable consists of: chemical usage cost; sludge disposal cost; personnel wage cost; fuel and electricity cost; spare-part replacement cost. The analysis will determine whether both household connection and commercials connection in the sewerage system have positive results. Should negative results emerged, follow up analysis added to elevate the results consists of following scenarios: sensitivity analysis for tariffs adjustment; sensitivity analysis adding grant as option; sensitivity analysis adding loan as option. While analysis of base tariffs shown negative results on NPV, BCR, and IRR calculation, the follow up analysis shown significant changes thus the results is desirable.
