Opis:
The article aims to present methodological issues of the contemporary historical study of religion and studies of early Christianity as a historical phenomenon. The scientific study of religion uses the methodology appropriate for studying the products of human activity. Therefore, the anthropocentric history of religions examines human activity related to ideologies and activities claiming non-human origins. On the other hand, theology is permanently linked to religious ideology and, as such, is one of the objects of religious studies. Although religious people may perceive religious studies claims as offensive, respect for religious sensibilitie.

Between literature, philosophy of history and history of religions: the idea of universal religion in France in the first half of the 19th century on the example of Edgar Quinet In the first half of the 19th century in France, in the context of the new problems brought by this period, are developed various types of the idea of universal religion, among others its variation based on lay humanitarianism, whose representative is Edgar Quinet. The aim of the article is to show how Quinet formulates this idea at the intersection of three different fields: literature, philosophy of history and history of religion. The first one is used to give it form, the two others to interpret historical data and religious beliefs according to a millenarianist key. The universal religion of Quinet, which fits into a unitive worldview, is paradoxically a religion without religion, emanated from the ‘empty sky’.

This text has as one of its goals to evidence the importance of the analysis of works that can be denominated Christian-Catholic literature – in particular the manuals of devotion and of moral orientation published in Europe and with circulation in Portuguese America in the 18th and 19th centuries – for historical research in the field of History of religions and religiosities. It is interesting, also, to highlight the potentialities of the collection of rare works of the Memorial Jesuíta Unisinos, which, despite its denomination, counts with works from between the 15th and 20th centuries by members of other religious orders, constituting, there¬fore, a privileged space for research about themes of religious history from the colonial period to the 20th century. To demonstrate, an evaluation of the manuals of devotion that compose the collection is presented, and the possibility of analysis from their context of production and theoretic and me¬tho¬dological tenets of the practices of writing and reading are highlighted

Fundamental theology as a discipline and academic center conducting research as well as didactic and organizational activity has existed at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin since its beginning, first as the Department of Fundamental Theology (1918–20), then the Section of Fundamental Theology (1920–99), and since 1999 as the Institute of Fundamental Theology. As it developed, the center began to take the form of a scientific school, the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology. Its foundations were laid by Rev. Edward Kopeć. Subsequently, it was developed by, among others, Rev. Stanisław Nagy, Rev. Romuald Łukaszyk, Rev. Henryk Zimoń (religious scholar), and especially by Rev. Marian Rusecki (a student of Rev. E. Kopeć), the main co-founder of the school and its most prolific author, whose scientific achievements are the department’s showcase and have influenced contemporary Polish fundamental theology. During his time, especially at the beginning of the 21st century, the school reported its greatest scientific and organizational achievements. Currently, it is continually being developed by Rev. M. Rusecki’s students who work at the Institute of Fundamental Theology and its graduates working in other centers. This article presents the scientific characteristics (historical outline, features and main trends) of the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology (Section 1) and its most important achievements (Section 2): the main publications, organizational achievements as well as national and international cooperation.

Opis:
Potem rozwijali ją m.in. ks. Stanisław Nagy, ks. Romuald Łukaszyk, religioznawca ks. Henryk Zimoń, a zwłaszcza ks. What are we talking about when we talk about universal religion? The purpose of this article is to present a preliminary methodological, typological and historical outline (focusing particularly on modern France modern France), which facilitates answering this question. If we accept the meaning given to religion by modernity (which defines it by a form of worship, doctrine, morality and community), we conclude that the idea of a universal religion, as having numerous historical variants, fulfills its criteria in various ways. At the same time, however, it transcends positive religions, and its critical-investigative attitude towards them are even the necessary conditions of possibility of its emergence. The idea of universal religion can remain at the level of purely intentional solution or project (as in the case of modern natural religion, which is the common denominator of all religions, based on the so-called Credo minimum), it can also although this is rare, adopt a specific social character (as in the case of cults created during the French Revolution). The idea of a universal religion can also be associated with one of the historical religions. In the Western world and its Judeo-Christian context, it would generally be Catholicism.

Opis:
The Second Vatican Council (1962-1965) was the first ecumenical council in the history of the Catholic Church, which offered a positive way of looking at other religions as such, as reflected essentially in Nostra Aetate: Declaration on the Relation of the Church to Non-Christian Religions. The radicalness of this change is demonstrated by the fact that the declaration is the only document of Vatican II, in which there are no references to the earlier teaching of the Church. Previously, the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church considered other religions as obstacles to salvation, which was related to a rigorist interpretation of the ancient axiom extra ecclesiam nulla salus est (no salvation outside the Church). In this regard, the post-conciliar Magisterium of the Church builds its teaching on the foundations of the doctrine of Vatican II. We can see a considerable evolution of the teaching: noticeably, it proceeds not just in one, but in many different – even very different – directions.

Opis:
Cieľom nášho príspevku je predstaviť tajomné postavy z obdobia antiky, sväté Pudencianu a Prassedu, dcéry senátora Pudensa, ktorého staroveké legendy identifikujú medzi prvými ľuďmi, ktorých v Ríme obrátil apoštol Pavol.
Our contribution aims to present mysterious figures from the period of antiquity of Saints Pudentiane and Praxedis, the daughters of Senator Pudens, whose ancient legends identify them among the first people to be converted in Rome by the Apostle Paul. Pudens owned a villa, the remains of which are nine meters below the present basilica (for centuries it was believed to be the oldest Christian church in Rome), in which he hid persecuted Christians, according to some sources, even the Apostle Peter. When Pudens died a martyr, they built Praxedis and Pudentiane with the consent of Pope Pius I in 142/145 AD in the father's house a baptistery for the baptism of new Christians. However, during the persecution of Emperor Antonio Pius, Praxedis and Pudentiane were also tortured. After the death of Pudentiane, Praxedis used the heritage of her family to build the church "sub titulo Praxedis". She hid many persecuted Christians, and when they were exposed and tortured, she gathered their bodies and buried them in the cemetery of St. Priscilla on Via Salaria, where she was later buried in the grave with her sister and father. Legends say so much, our scientific interest was aroused by the proximity of the Basilica of Santa Pudentiane and the Roman synagogue Oratorio Castro as a symbol of the 2000 years of the mysterious coexistence of religions they serve for the peaceful development of human civilization in the sense of Pope Francis' encyclicals.

Opis:
Dura Europos, or as proposed today Europos Dura, was a fortified settlement on the border between the Roman Empire and the East. The archeological discoveries reflected the character of the settlement – the fortified agglomeration grouped at the military camp. After its fall Europos Dura was covered by desert sand only to be discovered in the XXth century. Archaeological research has disclosed documentation of its multicultural character. This paper points to the fact of coexistence of various religions in late antiquity Europos Dura. Paintings and sculptures discovered in situ indicate that scene of offering was a favorite subject in the sacral art of Europos Dura, independent of religion. The ceremony of incense burning constitutes the dominant form of offering regarding visualizations of this important ceremony.
