Im Beitrag wird über eine Studie zur kulinarischen Werbung aus der Presse der Freien Stadt Danzig aus den 20er und 30er Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts berichtet und kurz auf die vorläufigen Ergebnisse der Studie eingegangen. Es wird darauf hingewiesen, wie die Textsorte Werbeanzeige aus textlinguistischer und kommunikationswissenschaftlicher Perspektive beleuchtet werden kann und welche Erkenntnisse uns eine solche Vorgehensweise bringt. Werbeanzeigen – als Produkte gegenwärtiger Aktivitäten von Sprachgemeinschaften und Artefakte einer bestimmten Kultur – werden als Spiegel gesellschaftlicher und kultureller Zustände betrachtet. Es wird überlegt, welche Informationen über die damalige Küche, Kultur und Gesellschaft uns die Werbung ein Jahrhundert später liefert und wie die kulinarische Werbung nationales und internationales Zeitgeschehen regional und lokal verarbeitet.
The article presents a study of culinary advertising from the press of the Free City of Danzig of the 1920s and 1930s and briefly discusses the preliminary results of the research. The author of the article will discuss how this kind of text can be researched from the text-linguistic perspective and the perspective of communicative studies, and what conclusions such an approach will lead to. Advertisements – as products of contemporary activities of linguistic communities and artefacts of a particular culture – are seen as a mirror of social and cultural conditioning. The author of the article will consider what information about the cuisine, culture and the society of those times advertising provides us a century later and how advertisement processes national and international contemporary events on regional and local levels.

The Higher School of Economics in Sopot and the Higher School of Pedagogy in Gdansk were universities established just after World War II and strongly ideologized in the 1950s. The purpose of this article is to reconstruct the events that took place during the October transition at both universities and also to identify the changes these events led to at party meetings. The introduction discusses the history of the WSE in Sopot and the WSE in Gdansk from the time of their establishment until 1956 and outlines the elements of ideological pressure applied to employees and students. An analysis of the minutes of university bodies (staff meetings, Senates) and party bodies at the universities (POP and KU PZPR) and above the universities (KM PZPR in Sopot, KW PZPR in Gdansk), memoirs of students and employees, and newspaper articles were used to achieve the goal. The changes that took place at the universities were primarily concerned with democratization, greater openness in discussion (while remaining faithful to broad Marxist ideology), changes in the conceptual instrumentarium and criticism of both the USSR and national and university authorities. Virtually all groups comprising the WSE and WSP academic community were involved in the 1956 changes, albeit to varying degrees and in different forms. Employees were more involved at meetings of university and party committees, while students were involved at rallies and in the forums of youth organizations.

In the wake of publications by Maciejewski and Jasiewicz devoted to manuscript PL-GD Mar. F 406, the present article offers a fresh perspective on this Gdańsk source and revises some of those researchers’ opinions. The structure of the manuscript is re-examined, as is the repertory of the Ordinary. Chants for the Offertory and the Feast of the Visitation, as well as the body of compositions for the Holy Week and Eastertide (some of which are unica), are analysed here for the first time. The presented findings make it possible to relate this source unequivocally to the liturgy of the Teutonic Order, and especially to the church of St Mary in Gdańsk. Also shown are the codex’s links to Central European traditions (to manuscripts from Poland and Bohemia). Analysis of the repertoire also allows us to establish more accurately the order in which the volume was compiled and date its individual sections to the period between the first quarter of the fifteenth century and the turn of the sixteenth century. The compilers’ motives are analysed, and attention is drawn to the range of themes covered by the codex, not previously noted to such an extent: apart from Marian piety, also the cult of the Holy Sacrament and elements of the Holy Week and Easter liturgies.
Ta kolejna po pracach Maciejewskiego i Jasiewicza publikacja poświęcona rękopisowi PL-GD Mar. F 406 pozwala na nowo spojrzeć na gdański zabytek i skorygować opinie sformułowane przez poprzednich badaczy. W artykule powrócono do kwestii struktury księgi oraz repertuaru ordinarium missae. Po raz pierwszy analizie poddane zostały kompozycje wykonywane ad offertorium, śpiewy święta Nawiedzenia NMP oraz korpus utworów przeznaczonych na Wielki Tydzień i okres wielkanocny, wśród których znaleziono śpiewy unikatowe. Przedstawione rozważania pozwoliły bezsprzecznie powiązać zabytek z liturgią Zakonu Niemieckiego, a w sposób szczególny z gdańskim kościołem Mariackim. Zademonstrowano również związki kodeksu z tradycjami środkowoeuropejskimi – nie tylko z zabytkami z Polski, ale również z rękopisami czeskimi. Analiza repertuaru pozwoliła ponadto z większą dokładnością określić kolejność, w jakiej kompletowano zawartość księgi i datować poszczególne jej części pomiędzy pierwszą ćwiercią XV wieku a przełomem XV i XVI wieku. Pokazano również motywacje, jakie towarzyszyły twórcom rękopisu i wskazano niedostrzegany wcześniej w takim zakresie zakres tematyczny zainteresowań użytkowników kodeksu – obok pobożności maryjnej miejsce znalazły kult Najświętszego Sakramentu oraz elementy zaczerpnięte z liturgii Wielkiego Tygodnia i Wielkanocy.

Archaeological explorations carried out between Tartaczna and Panieńska streets in Gdańsk has provided a wealth of movable historical artefacts. One of them is a quiver/bowcase loop made of antler. The article discusses typological classification, comparative analysis, dating and ethnocultural characteristics of the artefact. Antler and iron elements of quivers and bowcases are very rare in Poland and all of them are considered to be elements of foreign culture: Rus’ or Hungarian.

Climate change and its consequences, including rising ocean temperature and sea level rise are well scientifically documented. The changes are especially severe for coastal communities, which are estimated to have reached c. 50% of the world’s population. Using an example of the Gulf of Gdansk region, which is of European importance, due to the presence of two major Baltic ports and global tourism, we explore, how sea related threats may affect the region and we analyse how the three major cities are prepared to these threats. The four city developmental strategies and an additional document, an “umbrella strategy” focusing on climate change threats do not consider sea level rise and more frequent storm surges as threats. The sea level rise is briefly discussed in the fourth document. The adaptation plan, an appendix to the document, mentions sea level rise, but the discussion of the problem is indirect and involves some examples of adaptation actions in loosely similar environmental conditions. The adaptation plan, in fact includes a list of possible threats, rather than a detailed discussion of the suggestions of the measures to be undertaken. For comparison, we present a multilevel approach, which is effectively run in the Port of Rotterdam and argue that such approach should be undertaken in the studied region. We conclude that despite years of education on climate change, the problem is still not recognised and is underrepresented in practical measures of the studied region. We also provide hints on how to overcome this situation.

This article attempts to determine the function of the discovered small collection of 19 pieces of music, owned by Friedrich Wilhelm Jüncke (1842-1897) stored in the Library of the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk. In the face of limited knowledge about the life of this merchant from Gdańsk, and then from Sopot, the discovery that, apart from numismatic items and so-called Gdansk door, he also collected musical items was a big surprise for the employees of the Art Inkubator, an institution that, since 2019, has been taking care of, e.g. Jüncke's villa and cherishes the memory of the former owner of the building. The musical and bibliological characteristics of the music prints showed that Jüncke gathered them for collecting rather than for utilitarian purposes. The provenance entries found in two prints prove that Jüncke was not their first owner. In addition, the entries found in the next five prints may prove that after Jüncke's death some items were in the possession of the Gdańsk NSDAP, and after the war they ended up in the aMuz Library. Undoubtedly, finding this small book collection contributes to supplementing the information about Jüncke and - indirectly - to expanding knowledge about the musical culture of Gdańsk in the period 1939-1945.

Jej liderki poprzez wytyczne dla działalności, statuty oraz programy funkcjonowania miały za zadanie wdrażać wśród Polek przekonanie o nadrzędnej roli Ligii Kobiet jako organizacji reprezentującej interesy wszystkich kobiet, niezależnie od pochodzenia, statusu materialnego czy społecznego. W artykule przedstawione zostały poszczególne etapy działalności organizacji oraz obszary jej aktywności, tj. działania na rzecz aktywizacji zawodowej kobiet (m.in. poprzez organizowane szkolenia i zawodowe kursy dokształcające), wyznaczanie kierunków działalności politycznej dla kobiet, udzielanie pomocy o charakterze prawnym oraz związane z wychowaniem dzieci.
The Women’s League was an organisation that functioned from 1945 to 1989 under the names: Socio-Civic League of Women, League of Women and League of Polish Women. Through activity guidelines, statutes and programmes, the League’s leaders had the task of promoting among Polish women a belief in the superior role of the League of Women as an organisation representing the interests of all women, irrespective of their origin, material or social status. The article presents the various phases of the organisation’s activities and its areas of operation, including activities for the professional activation of women (e.g. through training and professional further training courses), the definition of political activities for women, the provision of legal aid and child-rearing assistance.

Research on the socio-economic history of early modern Gdańsk marked the various stages of Maria Bogucka’s research career, from her doctorate in 1955 to full professorship in 1981. She came from the research grouping of Marian Małowist, and her works, along with the contributions of other students from this circle, are among the most outstanding achievements of Polish historiography of the twentieth century. This article is devoted to discussing the most important Gdańsk-related works of Bogucka against the background of German-Polish controversies, which touched upon an assessment of the city’s role in the history of Poland.

Przedwojenna kultura muzyczna na terenie Gdańska (Danzig) rozwijała się głównie w środowisku niemieckojęzycznych gdańszczan. Po II wojnie światowej ślady tego życia muzycznego w ograniczonym zakresie pozostały w zbiorach PAN Biblioteki Gdańskiej. Zachowane materiały dotyczące okresu przedwojennego oprócz książek i wydawnictw naukowych obejmują dokumenty życia codziennego, a także nieliczne partytury. Do naszych czasów w tych zbiorach przetrwały świadectwa kobiecej aktywności muzycznej na terenie miasta. W niniejszym artykule prezentuję sylwetki trzech kobiet — kompozytorek, nauczycielek i wykonawczyń, o których w świetle zgromadzonych materiałów można z pewnością powiedzieć, że były znaczącymi postaciami w przedwojennym gdańskim życiu muzycznym oraz społecznym. Są to: Martha Reincke, Ella Mertins i Lotte Prins. Ich twórczość i działalność artystyczna wpisują się w szerszą perspektywę historyczną miasta, stanowią też doskonały przyczynek do badania nastrojów społecznych, dla których kultura muzyczna miała fundamentalne znaczenie.
The pre-war musical culture in Gdańsk / Danzig developed mainly in the environment of German-speaking Gdańsk residents. After World War II, traces of this musical life remained to a limited extent in the collections of the Polish Academy of Sciences in the Gdańsk Library. The preserved materials relating to the pre-war period, apart from books and scientific publications, include documents of everyday life, as well as scores. The testimonies of female musical activity in the city have survived to our times in these collections. In this article, I present the profiles of three women - composers, teachers and performers, who, in the light of the collected materials, can certainly be said to be significant figures in the pre-war musical and social life of Gdańsk. They are: Martha Reincke, Ella Mertins and Lotte Prins. Their creativity and artistic activity fit into the wider historical perspective of the city, they are also an excellent contribution to the study of social moods for which musical culture was of fundamental importance.

Opis:
Nieruchomości w Elblągu, które Hilary Pracz-Praczyński w 1945 r. przejął na potrzeby duszpasterstwa, zostały w 1962 r. zawłaszczone przez państwo. Administracja wyznaniowa nie wyrażała zgody na rozbudowę na terenie tego miasta istniejących świątyń, a także na budowę nowych. Władze przychylały się do wniosków tylko wtedy, gdy służyło to interesom państwa. Diecezji warmińskiej nie pozwalano także na utworzenie w Elblągu nowych parafii. Trzecią parafię katolicką w Elblągu erygowano dopiero w 1974 roku.
The properties in Elbląg, which Hilary Pracz-Praczynski had taken over for pastoral use in 1945, were appropriated by the state in 1962. The denominational administration did not give permission for the expansion of existing churches or the construction of new ones in the city. The authorities granted requests only when it served the interests of the state. The Diocese of Warmia was also not allowed to establish new parishes in Elbląg. The third Catholic parish in Elbląg was not erected until 1974.
