Opis:
Fundamental theology as a discipline and academic center conducting research as well as didactic and organizational activity has existed at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin since its beginning, first as the Department of Fundamental Theology (1918–20), then the Section of Fundamental Theology (1920–99), and since 1999 as the Institute of Fundamental Theology. As it developed, the center began to take the form of a scientific school, the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology. Its foundations were laid by Rev. Edward Kopeć. Subsequently, it was developed by, among others, Rev. Stanisław Nagy, Rev. Romuald Łukaszyk, Rev. Henryk Zimoń (religious scholar), and especially by Rev. Marian Rusecki (a student of Rev. E. Kopeć), the main co-founder of the school and its most prolific author, whose scientific achievements are the department’s showcase and have influenced contemporary Polish fundamental theology. During his time, especially at the beginning of the 21st century, the school reported its greatest scientific and organizational achievements. Currently, it is continually being developed by Rev. M. Rusecki’s students who work at the Institute of Fundamental Theology and its graduates working in other centers. This article presents the scientific characteristics (historical outline, features and main trends) of the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology (Section 1) and its most important achievements (Section 2): the main publications, organizational achievements as well as national and international cooperation.

W 100-letnią tradycję istnienia Wydziału Teologii na Katolickim Uniwersytecie Lubelskim Jana Pawła II wpisuje się dziedzina określana jako teologia fundamentalna. Znalazła się w programie studiów teologicznych od samego początku, tak iż z perspektywy ostatnich lat można powiedzieć o powstaniu lubelskiej szkoły teologii fundamentalnej. Autor niniejszego artykułu postanowił przedstawić, w jaki sposób w obrębie tej szkoły rozumie się Boże Objawienie, czyli jedno z istotnych zagadnień, które jest zarówno podstawą wszelkiej teologii, jak również przedmiotem namysłu w obrębie teologii fundamentalnej. W tym celu autor przedstawił najpierw znaczenie refleksji nad pojęciem Objawienia Bożego, a następnie wskazał autorów, których działalność naukowa związana była z istnieniem lubelskiej szkoły teologii fundamentalnej i którzy zajmowali się refleksją nad Bożym Objawieniem. W kolejnych punktach artykułu przedstawione zostało rozumienie Bożego Objawienia w kategoriach personalistycznych, właściwych dla wspomnianego środowiska teologicznego, znaczenie Bożego Objawienia w teologicznej interpretacji religii oraz pojmowanie wiarygodności Objawienia.
This article discusses the understanding of Divine Revelation within the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology. After presenting the significance of the reflection on the category of Revelation, the article presents the most important characteristics of the reflection on this category typical of the group of theologians associated with John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, i.e. the personalist understanding of Divine Revelation, the meaning of Divine Revelation in the theological interpretation of religion and the comprehension of the Revelation’s credibility.

The current form of apologia, which those within the milieu of the Department of Fundamental Theology and Philosophy at the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw have termed the “new apologia,” is a contemporary and extremely dynamic phenomenon that has been developing in a multifaceted way since the end of the twentieth century to the present time. The new apologia’s dynamic return dates back to 1990s and the particular characteristics of this type of defense include: engagement, timeliness, insight, a constant presence in the sphere of the media, originality of arguments, and intellectual achievements. The new apologia “occurs” on many levels today, but most notably in contentious areas such as man’s identity as it is expressed in subjectivity, historical memory, culture, rationality and bioethics, and, above all, the Christian faith, which has been subjected to various trends that intend to deconstruct it: anthropological reductionism, Christophobia, jihadism, secularization, secularism, and alethophobia.

The systematic theology of the 20th and 21st centuries has experienced revolutionary changes. The tremendous effort of theologians – which was already evident on the eve of Vatican II to experience order and confirmation during its deliberations – is still bearing fruit today. It seems that interpretations of the Council’s teaching have now become more problematic than the doctrine of Vatican II itself. One of the great figures of the theological world is Prof. Stanislaw Nagy, whose create efforts were honoured with a cardinalate, and to whom we are all indebted. Indeed, it is worth discovering his difficult path from the pre-council rigorous spiritual and intellectual formation to formal apologetics, thus paving the way for fundamental theology in Poland during the Communist period, to the ecumenical commitment of the times of freedom. In this respect, it is not without reason to speak of his ecumenical vision of the Church.

Christianity, and the Christian faith, seems to be losing when confronted with scientific reason and scientific certainty. Christianity needs new arguments for the epistemological seriousness of its faith. Those could be found in Joseph Ratzinger’s writings, providing new insights into fundamental theology. The subject of faith as an element that is crucial to him (and to Christianity) pervades all his works. This paper aims at proving that Ratzinger has worked out an original epistemological way of defending the Christian faith. It is an attempt to recreate his argument on the basis of his entire intellectual output. The present research leads to the conclusion that Ratzinger’s way of argumentation is quite unique. In classical fundamental theology, the Christian faith (comprehended mostly as an individual act of faith) is placed at its end point, while in Ratzinger’s fundamental theology, faith (understood mostly as a historical and communal act) is practically a point of departure. From the beginning of his reasoning Ratzinger (due to his meta-faith perspective) persuades that the Christian faith is epistemologically very serious. Faith may not only manifest its presence alongside other serious attitudes to reality, but also be capable of demonstrating its foundation, rationality, originality, uniqueness, and even absoluteness (definitiveness).

The article focuses on analyzing how Polish youth understand the purpose and meaning of life, taking into account the contemporary tendency to marginalize or eliminate the aspect of religion from the public sphere. The growing belief that man is the main source of progress, and that objective values and transcendent meaning are merely illusions, provides an important context for research on one’s perception of meaning in life. The research, conducted in the last quarter of 2023, employed a diagnostic survey method using the questionnaire technique. The study found justification in the field of fundamental theology, whose task is to show meaning in life to contemporary man. The uniqueness of the study lies in conducting a sociological and theological analysis among young people with faith, allowing for a better understanding of how religious aspects influence their perception of the meaning of life.

W artykule zostaje podjęta obrona tradycyjnego podziału przedmiotu teologii fundamentalnej na trzy demonstrationes. Pomimo jego krytyki po Vaticanum II łatwo zaobserwować bardzo częste występowanie we współczesnej (niemieckiej) teologii fundamentalnej, co jest poparte racjami metodologicznymi. Rozważania zawarte w artykule wspierają takie stanowisko poprzez analizę koncepcji traktatu i jego naukowego charakteru. Porównując na płaszczyźnie metodologii traktat z poetyczną teologią dogmatyczną niemieckiego teologa Alexa Stocka została wykazana konieczność rozwijania klarownych koncepcji religii, Objawienia i Kościoła (a także innych pojęć występujących w religii) w miejsce jedynie ich deskrypcji.

Myśl teologiczna Josepha Ratzingera jest dla współczesnej teologii jednym z ważnych punktów odniesienia. Jednocześnie można dziś już stwierdzić, że myśl niemieckiego Teologa jest na tyle dostępna, iż możliwe staje się całościowe i krytyczne opracowanie poszczególnych zagadnień z jego spuścizny teologicznej. Autor niniejszego artykułu podjął się opracowania jednego z kluczowych tematów dla refleksji teologicznofundamentalnej – rozumienia wiarygodności Kościoła. Temat ten nie znalazł całościowego i systematycznego opracowania w twórczości J. Ratzingera. Jednocześnie analiza jego twórczości wskazuje, że za poszczególnymi opracowaniami o charakterze cząstkowym kryje się określona koncepcja wiarygodności Kościoła. Autor niniejszego artykułu postanowił ukazać tę koncepcję omawiając następujące zagadnienia: warunki określające możliwość refleksji nad zagadnieniem wiarygodności Kościoła, więź Kościoła z Osobą Chrystusa (historyczny wymiar wiarygodności Kościoła), cechy decydujące o wiarygodności wspólnoty kościelnej w jej aktualnym istnieniu.
The Joseph's Ratzinger's theological thought is for the contemporary theology one of important datum points. Simultaneously we can today declare that the thought of the German Theologian is enough accessible, that it is possible to elaborate generally and critically single themes presented in his theological heritage. The author of the present article undertook one elaboration of key-problems for the fundamental theological reflection: how the German theologian seized the problem of the credibility of the Church. This theme did not find the general and systematic elaboration in the J. Ratzinger's publications, and simultaneously the analysis of his thought indicates that behind the singular elaborations about the partial character hides the certain determined conception of the credibility of the Church. The author of the present article decided to show this conception talking over following problems: conditions defining the possibility of the reflection over the problem of the reliability of the Church, the bond of the Church with the Person of Christ (the historic dimension of the reliability of the Church), features decisive about the reliability of Church community in her current existence.

In this article one can find the methodological sketch of Fundamental Ecclesiology, in particular: the former lines of this discipline, main concepts, ‘side' sciences, subject, goal and functions and, particularly, methods. This sketch is based on mostly Polish literature which is not ‘large’ but consists important solutions. These solutions ought to be unifed which was one of the aims of this article. The other one was to offer some new propositions, in particular: Fundamental Ecclesiology as Integral Ecclesiology, closer unification of the subjects of Fundamental Ecclesiology and Fundamental Christology and the proper methods of Fundamental Ecclesiology. Trying to use more proper methods some new inspirations found in John Paul II’s teaching could help. In His teaching there is a sketch of three new methods useful in Fundamental Ecclesiology: historical-revelational, contextual-revelational and extracontextual-revelational.

Academic research in the field of ecclesiology has been conducted at John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin (CUL) from the beginning of its existence, among others, in the Department of Fundamental Theology headed in 1918 by Rev. Piotr Kremer. Research intensified after the creation of the second Department of Fundamental Theology—Ecclesiology (on  June 23, 1958), which in the years 1964–91 was headed by Rev. Stanisław Nagy (Cardinal since 2003). Along with this, the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology developed, whose most prominent contributor was Rev. Marian Rusecki. The aim of this article is to present the achievements of the Lublin center (authors, works, research problems, its development) in the field of ecclesiology. The article will not repeat the contents of other articles included in this volume[1] but will be composed of the following sections: (1) the ecclesiological contents before the establishment of the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology, (2) the ecclesiological contents in the works of Rev. Edward Kopeć, (3) the ecclesiological achievements of Rev. Stanisław Nagy and his students, (4) the ecclesiological achievements of Rev. Teologia fundamentalna, jako dyscyplina i ośrodek akademicki prowadzący działalność naukowo-badawczą, dydaktyczną i organizacyjną, istnieje w KUL od jego początku, najpierw jako Katedra Teologii Fundamentalnej (1918-20), potem Sekcja Teologii Fundamentalnej (1920-99), a od 1999 Instytut Teologii Fundamentalnej. W trakcie rozwoju ośrodek ten zaczął przybierać kształt szkoły naukowej – lubelskiej szkoły teologii fundamentalnej. Jej podwaliny położył ks. Edward Kopeć. Potem rozwijali ją m.in. ks. Stanisław Nagy, ks. Romuald Łukaszyk, religioznawca ks. Henryk Zimoń, a zwłaszcza ks. Marian Rusecki (uczeń ks. Kopcia) – główny współtwórca szkoły i jej najpłodniejszy autor, którego naukowe dokonania są wizytówką szkoły i oddziałują na współczesną polską teologię fundamentalną. Za jego czasów, zwłaszcza od początku XXI w., szkoła odnotowała najwięcej najbardziej znaczących dokonań naukowych i organizacyjnych. Aktualnie starają się ją rozwijać uczniowie ks. Ruseckiego pracujący w Instytucie Teologii Fundamentalnej KUL, a także jej absolwenci pracujący w innych ośrodkach. W niniejszym artykule została przedstawiona naukowa charakterystyka (rys historyczny, cechy i główne nurty badawcze) lubelskiej szkoły teologii fundamentalnej (punkt 1) oraz jej najważniejsze osiągnięcia (punkt 2): główne publikacje, osiągnięcia organizacyjne oraz współpraca krajowa i międzynarodowa. Fundamental theology as a discipline and academic centre conducting research as well as didactic and organisational activity has existed at John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin since its beginning, first as Department of Fundamental Theology (1918-20), then Section of Fundamental Theology (1920-99), and since 1999 as Institute of Fundamental Theology. As it has developed, the centre began to take the shape of a school of science – the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology. Its foundations were laid by Rev. Edward Kopeć. Subsequently, it was developed by, among others, Rev. Stanisław Nagy, Rev. Romuald Łukaszyk, Rev. Henryk Zimoń (religious scholar), and especially by Rev. Marian Rusecki (student of Rev. E. Kopeć) – the main co-founder of the school and its most prolific author, whose scientific achievements are the showcase of the school and have influenced the contemporary Polish fundamental theology. During his time, especially from the beginning of the 21st century, the school reported the most significant scientific and organisational achievements. Currently, it is developed by the students of Rev. M. Rusecki who work at the Institute of Fundamental Theology and its graduates working in other centres. This article presents the scientific characteristics (historical outline, features and main trends) of the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology (Section 1) and its most important achievements (Section 2): main publications, organisational achievements as well as national and international cooperation.

Opis:
The paper presents two different post-conciliar projects of theology presented by Hans Küng (Menschwerdung Gottes) and by Marie-Joseph Le Guillou (Le mystère du Père). According to the first one, we need to develop theology on the basis of the Hegelian synthesis that presents an opportunity to reconcile Christianity with modernity. Such a development leads to a transgression of the teaching of theEcumenical Councils of the first millennium with the hope of putting into practice their deep intentions. According to the second one, we should find the courage to judge contemporary philosophy in the light of theological principles established during the first millennium (regula fidei). The divine eternal plan of salvation should become the decisive perspective to develop sound theology and to correct itsvarious errors. Although both proposals have been presented ca. 50 years ago, thechoice between them seems still of crucial importance.
