Opis:
Quantum dots are three-dimensional nanoparticles of semiconductors with typical sizes ranging from 2 to 10 nm. Due to the quantum confinement effect the energy gap increase with the size decreasing resulting in size-depended and fine-tunable optical characteristics. Besides this, the energy structure of a quantum dot with a certain size is highly sensitive to environmental conditions. These specific properties open a wide range of applications starting from optical and optoelectronic devices and ending with biosensing and life science. Temperature is one of those parameters influencing strongly on the optical properties of semiconductor nanocrystals, which make them promising materials for temperature sensing, more often using a fluorescent response. Compared to the conventional organic dyes already applied in this field, quantum dots exhibit a set of advantages, such as high quantum yield and photostability, long fluorescence lifetime, higher Stokes shift, and ability to surface functionalization with targeted organic molecules aimed to provide them biocompatibility. In this review, we briefly discuss the properties of II-VI and assumingly less toxic I-III-VI quantum dots, mechanisms of temperature-induced fluorescence response, and the feasibility of their practical application in the field of thermal sensing.

The solar photovoltaic technology is one of the renewable technologies with the potential to shape a future-proof, reliable, scalable and affordable electricity system. It is important to provide better resources for any upcoming technology. CdS/CdTe thin films have long been considered as one enticing option for reliable and cost-effective solar cells to be developed. N-type CdS as a transparent window layer in heterojunction structures is one of the best choices for CdTe cells. In a solar cell structure, window layer material plays a very crucial role to improve its performance. For this reason, this review focuses on the basic and significant aspects such as importance of the window layer thickness, degradation effect, use of nano-wire arrays, and an ammonia-free process to deposit the window layer. Also, an attempt has been made to analyze various processes improving window layer properties. Necessary discussions have been included to review the impact of solar cell parameters on the above aspects. It is anticipated that this review article will fulfill the requirement of knowledge to be used in the fabrication of CdS/CdTe solar cells.

Opis:
Research background: Sovereign credit ratings play an important role in determining any country?s access to the international debt market. During the global financial crisis and the European debt crisis, credit rating agencies were harshly criticized for the timing of their announcements regarding ratings downgrades and the ranges of those downgrades. Therefore, it is worth considering whether the sovereign credit rating is still a useful benchmark for investors. Purpose of the article: This article examines whether credit rating agencies still provide financial markets with new information about the solvency of governments in Emerging Europe countries. In addition, it describes the differences in the effect of particular types of rating events on financial markets and the impact of individual agencies on the market situation. Our study also focuses on evaluating these occurrences at different stages of the business cycle. Methods: This article uses data about ratings events that took place between 2008 and 2018 in 17 Emerging Europe economies. We took into consideration positive, neutral, and negative events related to ratings changes and the outlooks reported by Fitch Ratings, Moody?s, and Standard & Poor?s. We used a methodology based on event studies. In addition, we performed Wilcoxon signed-ranks test and used a logit model to determine the usefulness of cumulative adjusted credit default swap (CDS) spread changes in predicting the direction of ratings changes. Findings & Value added: Our research provides evidence that the CDS market reflects information regarding government issuers up to three months before ratings downgrades are announced. Information reported to the market by ratings agencies is only relevant in the short timeframe surrounding ratings downgrades and upgrades. However, positive credit rating changes convey more information to the market. We also found strong evidence that, in the post-crisis period, credit ratings provide markets with less information.

Successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) technique was used to prepare (CdS) thin films on glass substrate, by changing the immersion time in thiourea solution. XRD patterns proved that the as deposited thin films were polycrystalline structure with an average crystallite size ranging from 14.1 nm to 5.6 nm depending on immersion time. The EDX confirm the existence of CdS. Scanning electron microscopy reveals that the deposited films have a nanorod structure.Atomic force microscopy has shown that the values of average roughness and the root mean square roughness increase upon increasing the immersion time. The transmittance spectra reveal that as the immersion time increase, the value of transmittance decrease.

Opis:
This article proposes a simple approach to explain credit default swap premia and stock market prices in Poland. Credit Default Swap is an innovative financial instrument designed to transfer risk. Sovereign CDS premia measure investment risk. The aim of the article is to compare the premia of five-year Polish sovereign CDS and the Polish stock market indices – the WIG (Warsaw Stock Exchange Index) and the NCI (NewConnect Index). The key aim of the study is to calculate the Pearson correlation coefficient of premia with indices in the period 2011-2016. According to the theory, the CDS premia were strongly negatively correlated with the main index of the Polish stock market. When the premia increase, the WIG decreases simultaneously, and vice versa. However, in the case of CDS premia and the NCI, a strong positive correlation was documented. When the premia increase, the same is true for the NC index. The relationship can be explained by the presence of low risk-averse investors on the NewConnect market.
Credit Default Swap to innowacyjny instrument finansowy umożliwiający transfer ryzyka. Odwrotne wyniki uzyskano w przypadku indeksu NCI, silna korelacja dodatnia. Wzrost premii CDS powoduje wzrost indeksu NCI, a spadek premii CDS spadek indeksu.

Thin-film photovoltaic cells created based on the structure of CIGS (a mixture of the elements copper, indium, gallium and selenium) belong to the second generation of photovoltaic cells. They show the effectiveness of a level similar to the cells of the first generation, but due to lower material consumption, they increasingly forcing out silicon solar cells. The article presents the results of research of the method for obtaining a CdS buffer layer, used in thin-film CIGS photovoltaic cells. Two technology solutions of application were adopted: layer of CdS window obtained by the magnetron sputtering and layer of CdS obtained by chemical method (CBD- Chemical Bath Deposition). CdS layer has been imposed by the deposition in the chemical bath on glass substrates covered with Mo/CIGS (layers applied by magnetron sputtering). Allowing an emitter layer having a thickness of 80 cm after 35 minutes of deposition time. For comparison, a CdS layer was applied by magnetron sputtering on the substrate Mo/CIGS obtained by the same method. Subsequently, both solutions were examined in the SEM microscope to check the surface morphology, and also to analysis the elemental composition of the layers. Both methods leads to receive CdS emitter layer for use in CIGS cells.

Novel CdS/BiOI heterojunction photocatalysts were successfully prepared by facile method. The as-prepared samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, the Raman spectroscopy, UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra, the Fourier transform infrared spectra, and photoluminescence. It was found that CdS nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on the surface of BiOI microspheres. The photodegradation tests showed that the photocatalytic efficiency was increased at first and then decreased when further increasing CdS content in the nanocomposites. The highest activity was obtained by 3%-CdS/BiOI nanocomposites. The enhanced photocatalytic performances were attributed to the matched band potentials of CdS and BiOI, which resulted in the efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs. Based on the experimental results, a reasonable photocatalytic mechanism of CdS/BiOI photocatalysts was also proposed.

The aim of the article is to verify the impact of the ban on uncovered sCDS trade in Europe on the interdependencies between the sCDS market and other sectors of financial markets. We analyse two European markets: the safe and developed Swedish market, and the risky and developing Hungarian one. The study covers the period from October 2008 to October 2013. We analyse changes in the interdependencies between the sCDS market and the bond market, as well as between the sCDS market and the stock exchange. We found out that in the case of the safe Swedish market, the strength of relationships of each sector of financial markets with the sCDS one was much weaker than in the case of Hungary, which may suggest that the Swedish market is less prone to crisis transmission arising from herd behaviour or speculative attacks. In the end we show that in the two economies, the influence of the sCDS market on the other sectors of financial market indeed diminished following introduction of the ban on uncovered sCDS trade.
