This article discusses one of the most polyphonic works by Cyprian Norwid – the dramatic diptych" Tyrtej – Za kulisami" [Tyrtej – Behind the Scenes], proposing a multifaceted interpretation. Given that the compositional chaos and gaps in the manuscript gave rise to the textual and editorial disputes that proved critical for the interpretation of the work, this paper first focuses on the manuscripts of both plays and their most recognised editions (by Zenon Przesmycki, Juliusz W. Gomulicki, and by Julian Maślanka). Second, it examines the attitude of Norwid’s diptych to dramatic forms and traditions, including ancient tragedy, different variants of comedy, Romantic tragedy, music drama, nativity play, and cultural performance. The analysis of the ideological layer sheds some light on several issues such as: the condition and the mission of the poet (the confrontation of Tyrtaeus [Tyrtaios, Tyrtej] with the contemporary poet Omegitt as Norwid’s interpretation of the concept of poetry), questions about the nature and development trends of human civilisation (the confrontation of the formation systems of ancient Athens, Sparta, and the 19th-century population as an expression of the author’s historiosophical pessimism), and the anthropological reflection inspired by Diogenes of Sinope, referred to in Za kulisami, and his ‘search for an honest man’ (as Norwid’s critique of the human condition in the 19th century and the expression of his anthropological ideal).

The text is an introduction to psychological anthropology, a subdiscipline of culturalanthropology that looks into interactions linking cultural phenomena with human psychological processes. The history of the concept of psychological anthropology and its definitions is discussed and then juxtaposed with explanations of the concepts of ethno-psychology, cultural psychology, and cognitive anthropology. The discussion is contextualized by the history of the subdiscipline itself, which over the last 150 years has been developed and co-developed – often in a complex and convoluted way – by subsequent anthropological approaches and trends, with which it has at times been identified.
Tekst stanowi wprowadzenie do antropologii psychologicznej, subdyscypliny antropologii kulturowej zajmującej się interakcjami łączącymi zjawiska kulturowe z procesami psychologicznymi człowieka. Omówiono historię pojęcia antropologii psychologicznej i jej definicje, a następnie zestawiono ją z objaśnieniami pojęć etnopsychologii, psychologii kulturowej i antropologii poznawczej. Dyskusję kontekstualizuje historia samej subdyscypliny, która na przestrzeni ostatnich 150 lat była rozwijana i współrozwijana – często w sposób złożony i zawiły – przez kolejne podejścia i nurty antropologiczne, z którymi czasami była utożsamiana.

The article summarizes the history of the academic reflection on the culture research in Czech Republic from the beginnings of the národopis in the late 19th century till contemporary reflection on culture under the brand of anthropology. It covers the difficulties with defining the field of the research as well as the discipline name problem. The plurality of disciplines we can now observe in Czech cultural studies is explained in context of the social and political circumstances, especially the belonging to the soviet universum after the 2nd World War. Finally the article tries to explain the great difficulty with application of the Western, especially British, cultural studies into the postcommunist intellectual milieu.

Today’s anthropology attempts to relate the historicity and culturality of its concepts, viewpoints, and methods to the historicity and culturality of what is under investigation. Anthropology examines the findings of the human sciences and develops a critique of itself based on historical and cultural philosophy, thereby paving the way for the investigation of new questions and issues. At the heart of these efforts lies a restlessness of mind that cannot be stilled. Research in anthropology is not limited to certain cultural contexts or single epochs. Reflections on the integral historicity and culturality of the research enable the discipline to leave behind the Euro-centricity of the human sciences and to focus on the unresolved problems of the present and the future. This aim implies skepticism toward all-encompassing and universal anthropological interpretations, such as those occasionally found in biological science, for example. Anthropology is not a single discipline. It touches on many different sciences and disciplines, including philosophy. Speaking about anthropology in the humanities and social sciences, we have to consider the following five paradigms: 1) anthropology of evolution and hominization; 2) philosophical anthropology developed in Germany; 3) historical anthropology and the history of mentalities, initiated by historians in France and taking its cue from the Annales-School; 4) the American tradition of cultural anthropology, and 5) finally historical cultural anthropology. These paradigms also provide the basis for educational anthropology.
Dzisiejsza antropologia próbuje powiązać historyczność i kulturę pojęć, poglądów i metod, którymi się zajmuje jako nauka z historycznością i kulturą przedmiotów badań. Antropologia bada odkrycia nauk humanistycznych i tworzy autokrytykę na podstawie filozofii historycznej i kulturowej, tym samym torując drogę dla badań nad powstającymi pytaniami i kwestiami. W sercu tych wysiłków leży nieposkromiony niepokój umysłu. Badania w dziedzinie antropologii nie ograniczają się do określonych kontekstów kulturowych czy pojedynczych epok. Refleksje dotyczące integralnej historyczności i kulturalności badań umożliwiają dyscyplinie odejście od eurocentryczności nauk humanistycznych i skoncentrowanie się na nierozwiązanych problemach teraźniejszości i przyszłości. Tak określony cel implikuje sceptycyzm wobec wszystkich, obejmujących cały przekrój zagadnień i powszechnych interpretacji antropologicznych, przykładowo tych spotykanych w naukach biologicznych. Antropologia nie jest dyscypliną funkcjonującą w izolacji od innych dziedzin nauki. Dotyczy zagadnień z wielu różnych nauk i dyscyplin, w tym filozofii. Mówiąc o antropologii nauk humanistycznych i społecznych należy rozważyć pięć następujących paradygmatów: 1) antropologię ewolucji i hominizacji; 2) antropologię filozoficzną opracowaną w Niemczech; 3) antropologię historyczną i historię mentalności, zapoczątkowane przez historyków we Francji i czerpiące inspiracje ze Szkoły Annales; 4) amerykańską tradycję antropologii kulturowej, 5) wreszcie antropologię historyczno- kulturową. Powyższe paradygmaty stanowią również podstawę antropologii edukacyjnej.

Opis:
Three collections of photographs depicting ethnographical research are subject of analysis. The author uses them to show differences between local and foreign patterns of working in the field. The significant role of wandering is stressed as a unique property of ethnographers’ work. Another factor strongly influencing this professional group’s habitus is class distinction, typical for bourgeois circles. It is said to affect the way the subjects of research are usually treated. Also, the author muses over the relationship of photography as a medium and a peculiar act of collecting and gathering, so typical for ethnography.

Wskazane są także luki w literaturze naukowej dotyczące metodologii etnograficznych badań szeroko rozumianego sportu. Sekcja jest skromną próbą ich wypełnienia. Następnie redaktor wprowadza krótko w problematykę każdego z artykułów zawartych w tomie, zarówno z sekcji tematycznej, jak i sekcji varia.
This article introduces the subject of the thematic issue: The Ethnography of Sport and E-Sport: Methodological Experiences from the Fieldwork. The Editor points to the most crucial threads in the contemporary literature on the subject. He underlines the relevance of the authors and articles collected in this issue. Also indicated are gaps in the academic literature regarding the methodology of ethnographic research into broadly understood sport. The issue is a modest attempt to fulfill these gaps. The Editor also briefly recounts the contents of the articles, both from the thematic section and from the varia section.

Artykuł stanowi wprowadzenie do tomu „Przeglądu Socjologii Jakościowej” poświęconego socjologii i antropologii w ich wzajemnych relacjach. Obie dziedziny zostały w nim opisane jako systemy komunikacyjne w perspektywie teorii Niklasa Luhmanna, by za pomocą przywołanej w ten sposób pojęciowości oraz mechaniki procesów systemowych ująć w perspektywie diachronicznej problem granic obu dziedzin. Autorki pokazują na przykładach tekstów konstytutywnych dla socjologii i antropologii, jak wyróżnicowywały się one, domykały i zaznaczały swoje granice, by później – głównie ze względu na zwielokrotnione i niejednorodne odniesienia do środowiska – nie być w stanie ich utrzymać.

The subject matter of this text is a broad context of social activities focused on the institution of the museum. These activities comprise initiating procedures for establishing the culture of remembrance and civic responsibility in order to strengthen the cultural heritage in creating the local community, in the social and cultural, and social and economic sense. The texts refers to a statement in Resolution no.6 from the 1st Congress of Polish Museum Professionals that ‘it is essential to launch a programme, within the framework of programmes of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, which would directly support pro-museum social activities’. Another important message is that this statement creates new creative possibilities based on activating the participation potential of institutions of the culture of remembrance. The author highlights the importance of launching the procedures of the Social Capital Development Strategy, as well as other tools whose activation is the responsibility of the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage. These reflections are supplemented by a regional annex with short descriptions of cultural initiatives in Ostróda County (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeshop), carried out thanks to community actions, which is focused on revealing the inhabitants’ needs for integration by creating local institutions of the culture of remembrance
Przedmiotem rozważań niniejszego tekstu jest szeroki kontekst działalności społecznej skoncentrowanej wokół instytucji muzeum. Działania te to inicjowanie procedur służących budowaniu kultury pamięci i obywatelskiego poczucia odpowiedzialności za wzmocnienie roli dziedzictwa kulturowego w tworzeniu wspólnoty lokalnej, w wymiarach społeczno-kulturowym i społeczno-ekonomicznym. Tekst odnosi się do zapisu uchwały nr 6 I Kongresu Muzealników Polskich, iż należy stworzyć – w ramach programów Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego – program bezpośrednio wspierający promuzealne działalności społeczne. Ważne jest też przesłanie, że zapis ten otwieranowe możliwości kreacyjne i stwórcze, oparte na uaktywnianiu partycypacyjnego potencjału instytucji kultury pamięci. Autor wskazuje tu na istotność zainaugurowania procedur Strategii Rozwoju Kapitału Społecznego i innych narzędzi, których uruchomienie leży w gestii Ministra Kultury i Dziedzictwa Narodowego. Rozważania uzupełnia aneks regionalny, zawierający krótkie opisy inicjatyw kulturotwórczych w powiecie ostródzkim (woj. warmińsko-mazurskie), realizowanych we wspólnotowym działaniu, nakierowanym na ujawnianie potrzeb integratywnych mieszkańców poprzez tworzenie lokalnych instytucji kultury pamięci.

The aim of the article is to look at the thoughts of one of the most prominent Polish sociologists - Florian Znaniecki - and to ask the question to what extent they may be useful for present-day social and migration studies. The hypothesis furthered is that migration literature should go beyond the seminal book on Polish peasants in America by Znaniecki and Thomas and focus more on the Polish sociologist’s early thoughts. The article emphasizes the importance of cultural anthropology and culturalism not only in migration studies but also in a broad range of social studies, including the assessment of post-communist transition.

The article centres upon the phenomenon of mimetic desire which, as Rene Girard observes, is responsible for generating violence in the cultural and social sphere. In Girard’s view, William Shakespeare saw and documented the correlation between mimesis and violence, which makes his dramatic œuvre an essentially important text of culture. And A Midsummer Night’s Dream in particular is granted special attention; Girard clearly suggests that it should be an obligatory reading for all modern anthropologists. The article concerns an analysis of Girard’s revelatory reading of the play. It appears that the mimetic process is the thematic and constructional axis of dramatic events; furthermore, it is manifested in numerous transfigurations ultimately leading to violence and myth-creative hallucination. By creating the horizon of interpretation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the mimetic theory reveals also a demystifying power of the comedy. At the same time, it open a new perspective of the meta-theatrical level analysis of Shakespeare’s play.

W 2012 r. na polski rynek wydawniczy trafiło kolejne, nie zamyślone pierwotnie do upublicznienia „dzieło” Malinowskiego – jego korespondencja z pierwszą żoną, Elsie Masson. Autorka recenzji prezentuje tę korespondencję rozważając, na ile i ona przyczyni się do rewolucji w naukach społecznych. Podkreślając wagę dokumentacyjną edycji, stawia tezę, iż tym razem rewolucji nie będzie, ponieważ hieratyczny wcześniej wizerunek mistrza antropologii już za sprawą Dziennika… uległ rewolucyjnej dekonstrukcji. Równocześnie rozważa w recenzji manifestacyjny charakter działań kobiet Malinowskiego – drugiej żony, Anny Valetty Hayman-Joyce, która zdecydowała o upublicznieniu A Diary in the Strict Sense of the Term oraz Heleny Wayne, która z kolei opracowała i przygotowała do druku listy swych rodziców, Bronia i Elsie. Czy stanowią one wyraz akceptacji wielkiego uczonego i jego praktyk terenowych, czy też – przeciwnie – są sposobem „domalowania mu wąsów”, jak kiedyś uczynił to Duchamp Monie Lisie Leonarda da Vinci, otwierając drogę dla Awangardy? Oczywiście, odpowiedzi na razie znamy, ale recepcję Historii pewnego małżeństwa na pewno należy uważnie śledzić.
Bronislaw Malinowski’s A Diary in the Strict Sense of the Term, Published in 1967 or Dziennik w ścisłym znaczeniu tego wyrazu (Polish edition: Kraków 2002) was the cause for an important change in the already existing paradigm – it considerably inspired James Clifford’s and Clifford Geertz’s interpretative anthropology. In 2012, a polish edition of another Malinowski’s “work” has been published – a correspondence with his first wife, Elsie Masson. The author of a review presents the correspondence with a reflection upon if it will cause a revolution in social sciences. While putting an emphasis on the documentary importance of the edition, the author states, that this time, there will be no revolution, because the hieratic portrait of the master of anthropology was already deconstructed in a revolutionary way through A Diary… Simultaneously, the author ponders upon the demonstrative nature of Malinowki’s women actions – Anna Valetta Hayman-Joyce, who decided on making known to the public A Diary in the Strict Sense of the Term, and Helena Wayne, who complied and prepared for printing the letters of her parents, Bronio and Elsie. Are they an expression of acceptance of the great scholar and his field work practices, or, on the contrary, are they a way of painting a moustache, like Duchamps did once to Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, and initiated the Avant-garde movement? We do not know the answer to this question, although the reception of the The story of a marriage should be observed closely.

This article focuses on a relatively new area of communicology and communication research, which is the history of communication. The historical approach to communication phenomena (or “reflexive historicising”) is derived from some important and influential fields of communication research, e.g. the Toronto School of Communication, ritual view of communication, intellectual history and history of mentalities (Annales School), cultural anthropology and others. This paper intends to investigate the position of communication history among other branches of modern humanities as well as its relation to some significant approaches in social history and cultural anthropology, namely the history of ideas (or intellectual history) and history of mentalities. This article outlines the origins and current state of communication history and connects its main fields (mostly the history of collective images or representations of communication) with the two above mentioned approaches.

Opis:
Clifford Geertz remains one of the most influential cultural anthropologists. The author of this text analyses the main premises of Geertz’s interpretive anthropology, which provided a new research horizon for all cultural studies. The author discusses the potential and limitations of Geertz’s approach. It would seem that the cultural relativism postulated by Geertz clashes with the basic ideas of critics of postcolonialism. The ideological context in which Geertz’s anthropology should be read is a concept of multiculturalism, which is yet viewed not as the fulfillment of a relativists’ utopia but as a return to an enlightened concept of culture.
