Opis:
The arrow of time problem belongs to the most discussed questions of the contemporary philosophy of physics. Some aspects of this problem are discussed in this paper in the context of Henry Mehlberg's philosophical views. Mehlberg devoted a significant part of his work to the enigma of time. He argues that all major empirical theories are invariant with respect to time reversal. In the present paper, the difference between temporal isotropy as expressed in the everyday language and in scientific theories is first presented, then Mehlberg's arguments on behalf of temporal symmetry are analyzed and, finally, some philosophical implications of arrowless time are discussed.

Opis:
In the paper I discuss some premises of “quantum mechanics” with regard to the thesis that the time arrow does (not) exist. In this context I consider above all the famous Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen’s experiment (EPR-experiment). I also indicate Schrödinger’s interpretation of wave function “symmetrical” towards time (nomological isotropy) and the peculiar understanding of the pair particle-antiparticle, assuming that the direction of time can be reversed. Eventually, I discuss the issue of measurement in quantum mechanics with which the existence of time arrow (anisotropy) is often linked. If it comes to the interpretations of quantum mechanics, from the point of which I consider the issues in question, then in principle I limit myself to two: the so-called Copenhagen interpretation and David Bohm’s conception of “hidden parameters.” I arrive at a conclusion that the premises of quantum mechanics that are at issue here cannot be sufficient grounds for a conclusive recognition of the reversibility (non-existence) of time arrow.

In the paper we present an introduction to the theory of judgment aggregation and discuss its relation to the theory of preference aggregation. We compare the formal model of judgment aggregation, based on logic, with the formal model of preference aggregation. Finally, we present a theorem in judgmentaggregation which is an exact analogue of Arrow's theorem for strict preferences.
Artykuł stanowi wprowadzenie do teorii agregacji sądów oraz porusza temat jej związków z teorią agregacji preferencji. Oparty na logice model formalny agregacji sądów porównany jest z modelem formalnym agregacji preferencji. Przedstawiony zostaje ponadto wynik w teorii agregacji sądów stanowiący dokładny odpowiednik twierdzenia Arrowa dla mocnych porządków.

This article discusses the Marseilles period of Conrad’s life, which is still shrouded in mystery. By consulting the Marseilles municipal archives and examining information culled from the local press for the years 1874–1878, the author attempts to determine what events in the life of Marseilles during that particular period may have found an echo in Conrad’s works, and in what way these events could have influenced the personality of the young writer. The author sketches a vivid picture of everyday life in the Marseilles of the 1870s and recalls the principal events in the city’s artistic life, suggesting that Conrad’s first real experience of the opera and the theatre (and no doubt also of the fine arts) was gained in Marseilles. An analysis of all the available documents makes it possible to formulate the following conclusions: 1) The duel between M. George and Blunt, as described in The Arrow of Gold, had its origins in real life: this was the duel between two journalists - C. Hugues and J. Daime - which was then the talk of the town. 2) In drawing the character of Rita de Lastaola in The Arrow of Gold, Conrad most probably made use of several complementary models from real life: apart from Paula de Samoggy (mentioned by J. Allen), the model for Rita may well have been Mme Didier - the mistress of the wellknown Marseilles painter G. Ricard, who himself was quite probably the real-life model for the character of Henry Allègre. 3) During the time when Conrad was in Marseilles the political situation in Spain had completely stabilized and it is hardly likely that Conrad himself could have taken part in any gun-running for the Spanish Carlists. Monsieur George’s escapade may therefore be treated purely and simply as a reminiscence of the stories told by Provençal sailors who had earlier taken part in the smuggling expeditions of 1874–1875. The final section of the article draws attention to possible Marseilles sources for Falk, Heart of Darkness and An Outpost of Progress. Virtually the entire storyline of Falk may be found in the Marseilles press, while the two African stories can be seen as a hypothetical refutation of the tales told by the “colonizer of the Congo” Henry Stanley, who in January 1878 was given a hero’s welcome in Marseilles.

Artykuł omawia problem stosowania sygnału dopuszczającego skręcanie w kierunku wskazanym strzałką (sygnału S-2). Aktualizacja przepisów wykonawczych dotyczących sygnalizacji świetlnej z 2008 roku dopuściła ponownie możliwość stosowania kolizyjnych w czasie sygnałów skrętu warunkowego. W skutek zmian przepisów, na podobnych skrzyżowaniach z sygnalizacją, sygnał S-2 może dopuszczać ruch relacji skrętnej jako bezkolizyjny, częściowo bezkolizyjny lub kolizyjny. Jednocześnie dotąd nie oszacowano, jaki wpływ na zachowania kierujących i bezpieczeństwo ma stosowanie takiego, nie zawsze jednoznacznego rozwiązania. Jako tło do opisu poruszanego problemu przedstawiono zasady stosowania odpowiedników sygnału S-2 w innych krajach (USA, Niemcy, Francja). W drugiej części artykułu zaprezentowano wyniki wstępnych badań zachowań kierujących wjeżdżających na skrzyżowanie podczas nadawania sygnału dopuszczającego skręt w kierunku wskazanym strzałką. Wyniki badań wskazują na niską skłonność kierujących do korzystania z zielonej strzałki w sposób przepisowy. Ponadto część wjazdów wykonywana jest w trakcie sygnału zabraniającego. Na podstawie literatury zagranicznej oraz wstępnych wyników badań zaproponowano kryteria wykluczające i opcjonalne, mające na celu wspomaganie podjęcia decyzji o stosowaniu sygnałów S-2 umożliwiających kolizyjny przejazd przez skrzyżowanie relacji skrętu w prawo.
The paper discusses the problem of using special signal that permits to turn on a red (green arrow signal: S-2). Revision of the law regulations concerning signal control design restored the possibility of indication green arrow signal for conflict streams since 2009. As a result of changes to the regulations, at similar intersections green arrow may allow non-collision passage, partially collision or conflict passage. So far, no reliable research has been conducted, allowing estimating influence of green arrow on road safety and driver behavior. As a background, guidelines and design rules of green arrow signal in foreign countries (United States, Germany, France) were presented. The second part of the paper presents preliminary driver behavior- -based studies turning right on green arrow. The research results have shown low propensity to use green arrow signal in accordance to the rules. In addition, part of the drivers enters intersection during red signal. On the basis of research and literature study, mandatory and optional criteria for prohibiting collision right turn on green arrow onset were proposed as a support for traffic engineers.

The Dirac equation consistent with the principles of quantum mechanics and the special theory of relativity, introduces a set of matrices combined with the wave function of a particle in motion to give rise to the relativistic energy-momentum relation. In this paper a new hypothesis, the wave function of a particle in motion is associated with a pair of complementary waves is proposed. This hypothesis gives rise to the same relativistic energy-momentum relation and achieves results identical to those of Dirac. Additionally, both the energy-time and momentum-position uncertainty relations are derived from the complementary wave interpretation. How the complementary wave interpretation of the Dirac equation is related to the time-arrow and the four-vectors are also presented.

The aim of the paper is to reconstruct the Senian idea of development as a growing range of freedoms in the research program of modelling Schumpeterian evolutionary economics in the dynamical version of the Arrow-Debreu general equilibrium theory. In the context of the Schumpeterian circular flow freedom of choice of consumers and producers is studied in both qualitative and quantitative setting. The static results presented in the form of mathematical theorems are generalized by use of the theory of quasi-semi-dynamical systems, where cumulative extension of economic systems under consideration is preserved over time and models a growing range of freedoms as well as their quality.

W artykule zaprezentowano, strzały, groty, i typową kuszę oraz zalety tej broni, a także zagrożenia, jakie powodować może jej użycie. Zamieszczono wyniki badań balistyki przejściowej i zewnętrznej. Przedstawiono efekty oddziaływania strzał (bełtów) wystrzeliwanych z kuszy na pakiet balistyczny, odporny na ostrzał 7,62 mm pociskami TT (klasa K2 zgodnie z PN-V-87000: 2011) oraz tory lotu tych bełtów podczas strzelania w terenie. Przytoczone zostały akty prawne, które regulują zasady posiadania i używania kusz w Polsce.
The paper presents advantages of a typical crossbow and arrows and arrow-heads with threats of its use. The results of tests for transitional and external ballistics are included. The effects of interaction between the arrows projected from the crossbow and the ballistic block that is resistant against 7.62 mm rounds fired from TT gun (class K2 according to PN-V-87000:2011) and the trajectories of arrows in the open range are also presented. Legal regulations that govern the ownership and use of crossbows in Poland are included.

Thoughts about beauty appear in various places of incredibly rich writings of Joseph Ratzinger. Accordingly with his method, he undertakes this topic in a historical context reaching as far as to the Ancient Times, and develops its theological basis, in order to finally present its ecclesiastic context and a practical development. As always though, the point of origin is the existential problem and the answer of the Revelation as well as diagnosis of modernity. Beauty – according to Joseph Ratzinger – today, is rarely a product of inspiration, but it became a subject of commerce. Beauty seems to suffice by itself, which leads to an art crisis. However, because beauty in its deepest essence points towards a different Reality, that is why we discover all over again its special role in the fulfillment of the Church’s mission. The first task of the Church is to oppose the wicked beauty, which diminishes human, and the second one is to breathe new one in the apostolate thanks to discovering anew the purpose and the meaning of beauty in the human life, in experiencing God and in the Church’s liturgy. Against the crisis of apostolate we need to see the pedagogical aspect of beauty. Human wounded by an arrow of beauty – according to a personal experience of Joseph Ratzinger – is lifted up, above himself. For it is the protection of true beauty and seeing its role in the Church’s mission that are the tasks and a chance for the Church.
