Opis:
The paper presents a nonlinear electromagnetic field problem with cylindrical symmetry. A time-sinusoidal boundary condition is applied, which yields non-sinusoidal steady-state fields. The problem is brought forth to test an analytical-numerical method based on the method of small parameter. A distinctive feature of this method is that it requires symbolic calculations to be performed. These allow to reduce the problem to a system of nonlinear equations. In order to check the accuracy of the solution, several error criteria are introduced. Moreover, the power balance of a nonlinear conductive region is verified.

Opis:
An interface crack between two semi-infinite piezoelectric/piezomagnetic spaces under out-of-plane mechanical load and in-plane electrical and magnetic fields parallel to the crack faces is considered. Some part of the crack faces is assumed to be electrically conductive and having uniform distribution of magnetic potential whilst the remaining part of the crack faces is electrically and magnetically permeable. The mechanical, electrical, and magnetic factors are presented via functions which are analytic in the whole plane except the crack region. Due to these representations the combined Dirichlet-Riemann and Hilbert boundary value problems are formulated and solved in rather simple analytical form for any relation between conductive and permeable zone lengths. Resulting from this solution the analytical expressions for stress, electric and magnetic fields as well as for the crack faces displacement jump are presented. The singularities of the obtained solution at the crack tips and at the separation point of the mention zones are investigated and the formulas for the corresponding intensity factors are presented. The influence of external electric and magnetic fields upon the mechanic, electric and magnetic quantities at the crack region are illustrated in graph and table forms.

Opis:
In this study, steady laminar free convection boundary layer flow on a horizontal plate is investigated through analytical solutions. By transforming the governing non-dimensional boundary layer equations into an ordinary differential equation, the application of the Homotopy Analysis Method can be practical. So in this case, the analytical results for different Prandtl numbers and constant M values which portray the power index are achieved. The trend goes on large amounts of (M >> 1) and the results are compared with other efforts. Furthermore, the effects of different values of Prandtl number and M values on temperature and velocity profiles are verified.

Opis:
Shock waves arriving at a dam site are close to plane waves when the center of an underwater explosion is far from the dam site. In general, the wave pressure is calculated with COLE empirical formula. The COLE formula is a negative exponential function with respect to time. In this paper, a new analytical solution algorithm is proposed, which does not require the use of step-by-step time integration. In Comparison with the step-by-step time integration, the proposed algorithm requires relatively less calculation and avoids high-frequency oscillation. Furthermore, the vertical upstream surface and the sloping upstream surface in two types of the dams are analyzed in this paper. The research results indicate that the analytical solution can be applied for a dam with a vertical upstream surface. However, because the upstream face of a dam is inclined, the analytical solution can be obtained only for dams that are at lower height. Whenever the height of a dam is higher, then no analytical solution can be obtained, and only the use of step-by-step time integration can obtain a solution.

Opis:
The governing equation of large amplitude simple pendulum is a nonlinear equation which is very difficult to be solved exactly and analytically. However, the classical way for finding analytical solution is obviously still very much important. This is because an exact analytical solution serves as an accurate benchmark for numerical solution and provides a better insight into the significance of various system parameters affecting the phenomena than the numerical solution. Therefore, in this present work, exact analytical solutions for nonlinear differential equation of large amplitude simple pendulum is presented. Also, with the aid of the exact analytical solutions, parametric studies are carried out to study the effects of the model parameters on the dynamic behavior of the large-amplitude nonlinear oscillation system. The solutions can serve as benchmarks for the numerical solution or approximate analytical solution.

Opis:
Sensitive MEMS-based thermal flow sensors are the best choice for monitoring the patient’s respiration prompt diagnosis of breath disturbances. In this paper, open space micro-calorimetric flow sensors are investigated as precise monitoring tools. The differential energy balance equation, including convection and conduction terms, is derived for thermal analysis of the considered sensor. The temperature-dependent thermal conductivity of the thin silicon-oxide membrane layer is considered in the energy balance equation. The derived thermal non-linear differential equation is solved using a well-known analytical method, and a finite-element numerical solution is used for the confirmation. Results show that the presented analytical model offers a precise tool for evaluating these sensors. The effects of flow and thin membrane film parameters on thermo-resistive micro-calorimetric flow sensors’ performance and sensitivity are evaluated. The optimization has been performed at different flow velocities using a genetic algorithm method to determine the optimum configuration of the considered flow sensor. The geometrical parameters are selected as a decision variable in the optimization procedure. In the final step, using optimization results and curve-fitting, the expressions for the optimum decision variables have been derived. The sensor’s optimum configuration is achieved analytically based on flow velocity with the analytical terms for optimum decision variables.

Opis:
In this work, the efficiency of differential transformation method to the solutions of large amplitude nonlinear oscillatory systems is further established. Two cases of oscillation systems, nonlinear plane pendulum and pendulum in a rotating plane are considered. Without any linearization, discretization or series expansion of the sine and cosine of the angular displacement in the nonlinear models of the systems, the differential transformation method with Padé approximant is used to provide analytical solutions to the nonlinear problems. Also, the increased predictive power and the high level of accuracy of the differential transformation method over the previous methods are presented. The extreme accuracy and validity of the analytical solutions obtained by the differential transformation method are shown through comparison of the results of the solution with the corresponding numerical solutions obtained by fourth-fifth-order Runge-Kutta method. Also, with the aid of the analytical solutions, parametric studies were carried to study the impacts of the model parameters on the dynamic behavior of the large-amplitude nonlinear oscillation system. The method avoids any numerical complexity and it is very simple, suitable and useful as a mathematical tool for dealing the nonlinear problems.

The use of hollow catalytic support improves the utilization of the catalytic material because of the absence of the pellet core, and moreover ensures low reactor pressure drop owing to enhanced bed voidage. In this study, the expressions for the efficient computation of the effectiveness factor are derived for a ring-shaped catalyst pellet undergoing first-order irreversible reaction. The methodology consists of using solutions of one-dimensional problems to remove non-homogeneous boundary conditions. The expressions obtained exhibit significantly faster convergence behavior than those reported in literature. The shape parameters, namely, the height-to-diameter ratio and the inner-to-outer radii ratio, significantly affect the catalyst utilization, such that several-fold improvement in the effectiveness factor is achievable.

The main novelty of the paper is that analytical, experimental, and numerical analyses are used to investigate the free vibration problem of a sandwich structure in which Nanocomposites skins (SiO2/epoxy and Al2O3/epoxy) at different densities are used as the face sheet. The volume fraction's of nanoparticle addition varies (0% to 2.5%). The present free vibration was derived based on Kirchhoff's theory and aspiration to obtain the natural frequency. The results show that in structures with SiO2 nanoparticles with a density of 1180 kg⁄m3, the optimum increase (VF = 2.5%) is 50% in Young's modulus and 22% in natural frequency, while at a density of 1210 kg⁄m3 is 56 % in Young's modulus and 24.5% in natural frequency. Furthermore, the same structures reinforced with Al2O3 Nano-particles show that at the density of 1180 kg⁄m3 , the optimum (VF=2.5%) parentage increase in Young's modulus is 41% and 19% in natural frequency, while at the density of 1210 kg⁄m3 is 46% in Young's modulus and 21% in natural frequency. A numerical investigation was used to validate the obtained results of the analytical solution. The findings also show an acceptable convergence between analytical and numerical techniques with a maximum discrepancy not exceeding 3%.

The aim of the present work is to verify a numerical implementation of a binary fluid, heat conduction dominated solidification model with a novel semi-analytical solution to the heat diffusion equation. The semi-analytical solution put forward by Chakaraborty and Dutta (2002) is extended by taking into account variable in the mushy region solid/liquid mixture heat conduction coefficient. Subsequently, the range in which the extended semi-analytical solution can be used to verify numerical solutions is investigated and determined. It has been found that linearization introduced to analytically integrate the heat diffusion equation impairs its ability to predict solidus and liquidus line positions whenever the magnitude of latent heat of fusion exceeds a certain value.
