    Opis:
    The evaluation of shape factor (circularity) is a subject of interest in many fields of applications such as medicine and industrial processes. The shape factor plays an important role in materials science as a way to understand the relationship between microstructure and mechanical properties of technical materials. The paper deals with measurement of shape factor of graphitic particles with the aim to understand the influence of microstructure (especially shape of graphite) on mechanical properties of graphitic cast irons.

    Opis:
    The paper presents new and improved numerical methods designed for analysis of mechanical systems with uncertain parameters. Uncertain parameters in mechanical systems are described using possibility theory. The main representatives of this theory are fuzzy and interval numbers. Algorithms using interval and fuzzy numbers are incorporated into the analysis. The possibilities and efficiency of suggested methods and algorithms are tested by programs created in the environment of the software package MATLAB.

    Opis:
    The aim of this paper is analysis of optimization algorithms in terms of their possible solutions in parallelization and distributed computing systems. Main goal is using of evolutionary algorithms and implementation of parallel algorithms. As the software platform for application of distributed optimization algorithms is using software package BOINC. For evaluation of the objective function is used FEM program ADINA.
    Artykuł analizuje algorytmy optymalizacyjne pod kątem ich możliwości obliczeń równoległych oraz rozproszonych systemów obliczeniowych. Ukierunkowany jest przede wszystkim na algorytmy ewolucyjne oraz ich implementację równoległą. Jako platforma softwarowa do zastosowania rozproszonego systemu obliczeniowego algorytmu zostało zastosowane oprogramowanie pośredniczące BOINC. W celu oceny funkcji docelowej został zastosowany w MES program ADINA.

    Opis:
    The aim of the paper is to present the computationally timeconsuming task of simulating the process of randomly oscillating thin-shell structures to realize an optimal design with limitations in terms of fatigue damage. The most important aim here is to design an effective optimization algorithm and choose an appropriate approach for the evaluation of multiaxial fatigue damage in the context of the random and non-proportional character of stress in the structure when considering the standard finite element model. The authors propose their own optimization algorithm, which is described in the present study and, on the basis of tests, has proven to be suitable for the aforementioned technical problems. The proposition of algorithms for calculating the accumulation of fatigue damage in non-proportional and multiaxial stresses (especially in terms of the application of rainflow analysis by decomposition of the equivalent stress, as determined by the appropriate “fatigue” criterion) is very important in such computational processes. The entire computational process was implemented in MATLAB with the “Discret_Opt_Fat” main control program. The article presents the theoretical basis for the presented complex problem solution, its algorithmization and the technical application.

    Opis:
    The contribution deals with a comparison of the micro-mechanisms of failure of nodular cast irons at static, impact and fatigue stress. Several specimens of ferrite-pearlitic nodular cast irons with different content of ferrite in a matrix were used for metallographic analysis, mechanical tests and micro-fractographic analysis. Mechanical properties were found by static tensile test, impact bending test and fatigue tests. The micro-fractographic analysis was made with use of scanning electron microscope VEGA II LMU on fracture surfaces of the specimens fractured by these mechanical and fatigue tests. Fracture surfaces of analysed specimens are characteristic of mixed mode of fracture. Micro-mechanism of failure of nodular cast irons is dependent on the method of stress.

    Opis:
    Microstructures of superalloys have dramatically changed throughout the years, as modern technology of its casting or forging has become more sophisticated. The first superalloys have polyedric microstructure consisting of gamma solid solution, some fraction of gamma prime and of course grain boundaries. As demands on higher performance of aero jet engine increases, the changes in superalloys micro-structure become more significant. A further step in microstructure evolution was directionally solidified alloys with columnar gamma prime particles. The latest microstructures are mostly monocrystalline, oriented in [001] direction of FCC gamma matrix. All microstructure changes bring necessity of proper preparation and evaluation of microstructure. Except for the already mentioned structures have gamma double prime and various carbides form can be seen. These structural parameters have mainly positive influence on important mechanical properties of superalloys. The paper deals with a microstructural evaluation of both groups of alloys – cast and as well as wrought. Micro-structure evaluation helps to describe mechanism at various loading and failure of progressive superalloys. Such an example where micro-structure evaluation is employed is fractography of failure surfaces after fatigue tests, which are examples of metallography evaluation de-scribed in this paper as a secondary objective.
