Opis:
Hydrodynamic forces on a submerged cylinder in uniform finite depth ice-covered water is formulated by using the method of multipoles, the ice-cover being modelled as an elastic plate of very small thickness. The forces (vertical and horizontal) are obtained analytically as well as numerically and depicted graphically for various values of flexural rigidity of the ice-cover to show the effect of its presence. When the flexural rigidity and surface density of the ice-cover are taken to be zero, then the curves for the forces almost coincide with the curves for the case of uniform finite depth water with free surface.

Opis:
This paper presents mathematical modelling and numerical analysis to evaluate entropy generation analysis (EGA) by considering pressure drop and second law efficiency based on thermodynamics for forced convection heat transfer in rectangular duct of a solar air heater with wire as artificial roughness in the form of arc shape geometry on the absorber plate. The investigation includes evaluations of entropy generation, entropy generation number, Bejan number and irreversibilities of roughened as well as smooth absorber plate solar air heaters to compare the relative performances. Furthermore, effects of various roughness parameters and operating parameters on entropy generation have also been investigated. Entropy generation and irreversibilities (exergy destroyed) has its minimum value at relative roughness height of 0.0422 and relative angle of attack of 0.33, which leads to the maximum exergetic efficiency. Entropy generation and exergy based analyses can be adopted for the evaluation of the overall performance of solar air heaters.

Opis:
Actin-1 is a ubiquitous protein belonging to the reproductive class of Actin family in Arabidopsis thaliana . This protein is involved in the formation of filaments that are major components of the cytoskeleton. Despite the importance of this protein, very little information is available regarding its structure and function in plants. In this study, analysis of the protein sequence was done and comparative model of Actin-1 was constructed (UNIPROT ID: P0CJ46) from Arabidopsis thaliana using the crystal structure of Dictyostelium discoideum actin (PDB ID: 1NLV-A) as template employing Modeller version 9.9. The stable structure was generated by 5 nanosecond molecular dynamics simulation steps using GROMOS43A1 96 force field that characterized its structural and dynamic feature. The biochemical function of the final simulated structure was also investigated using PROFUNC. The molecular simulation study suggested that the modeled Actin-1 protein retain its stable conformation in aqueous solution. The predicted binding sites in the modeled Actin-1 protein are very informative for further protein-ligand interaction study.

Opis:
This paper presents the outdoor experimental results for thermal performance analysis of artificially roughened solar air heaters (SAHs). Circular wire ribs have been arranged to form arc shape geometry on the absorber plates and have been tested for two configurations of SAHs named as arc shape apex-downstream flow and arc shape apex-upstream flow SAH. Roughness parameters have been taken as relative roughness pitch in the range of 8–15, angle of attack 45°–75°, and for fixed relative roughness height of 0.0454, duct width to duct height ratio of 11. During the experimental analysis the mass flow rate varied from 0.0100 to 0.0471 kg/s. Based on the experimental results it was found that roughness with apexupstream flow SAH is having higher value of thermal efficiency, heat removal factor and collector efficiency factor as compared to roughness with apexdownstream flow SAH and simple absorber plate SAH. In the range of the operating parameters investigated the maximum of thermal efficiency, heat removal factor, and collector efficiency factor have been found.

Opis:
A major challenge for next decades is development of competitive renewable energy sources, highly needed to compensate fossil fuels reserves and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Among different possibilities, which are currently under investigation, there is the exploitation of unicellular algae for production of biofuels and biodiesel in particular. Microalgae have the ability of accumulating large amount of lipids within their cells which can be exploited as feedstock for the production of biodiesel. The lipid content of different species of microalgae can range from 30%-70% of their dry weight. In this project a microalgae with lipid content of 60.095% was used. This means that 26gms of oil was obtained from 42gms of microalgae sample from which 17.624gm of biodiesel (FAME) was found at the end of trans-esterification. Algae biofuels avoid some of the previous drawbacks associated with crop-based biofuels as the algae do not compete with food crops. The favorable growing conditions found in many developing countries has led to a great deal of speculation about their potentials for reducing oil imports, stimulating rural economies, and even tackling hunger and poverty. Strong research efforts are however still needed to fulfill this potential and optimize cultivation systems and biomass harvesting.

Opis:
Van-rickshaw is a popular mode of transport of people and merchandise in developing countries. The purposeof this study was to assess the effect of age on cardiovascular load of van-rickshaw pullers in the summer season (March–June) in real situations. In 142 participants, divided into 2 age groups (25–40 and 41–55 years), cardiovascular load was assessed on the basis of working and partial recovery heart rate (HR), predicted maximal HR, working maximal HR, average working HR, percentage of reserved HR, sum of recovery heart beats, percentage of recovery, relative and net cardiac cost, etc. Except for percentage of recovery, all parameters differed significantly between the groups and were significantly correlated with age. As this activity is very stressful, it places a heavy demand on the cardiovascular system. Therefore, age is an important factor for sustainability of the work, especially in a hot environment. Some ergonomic interventions are necessary to reduce cardiovascular load.
