Opis:
The idea of living beneath the sea is very new if compared with millennia of shipping activity. In fact, ocean surface was considered mainly as medium suitable for transport of persons and goods as well as aggression and robbery. More practical attempts to live “on” the water surface are limited to well protected internal waters. The presented concept of “an underwater-above water accommodation, especially for residential purposes” proposes a possible solution. It was developed under the name of “Water Discus”. To some extent it is a response to expressed requirements of potential operators as well ideas of European Commision regarding development of the “blue economy” (doc COM (2014) 254). Several basic research and design experiments were required to achieve current understanding of the concept requirements.

Opis:
Several underwater tasks require detail visualisation of a water space and bottom features. Search and identification of sea mines or explosives are good examples of such activity. To achieve high capability of detection and correct identification, high accuracy and resolution are required. One of the valuable tools, that can be used for acoustic visualisation are side scan sonars. They are in use since early beginning of underwater activity, but it is only recently that applications of high frequency, high definition sonars are being investigated. First research results show a need regarding better understanding of equipment specification. The aim of a research, reflected in this paper, is to study possibilities of detection and identification of objects located on the sea bottom or slightly buried by means of a side-scaning sonar. The sonar considered is installed on Remotely Operated cable controlled Vehicle (ROV) or Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) that introduces important limitations to size, weight and power consumption of sonar system. Theoretical evaluation of sonar parameters and definition of information needed for detection and recognition of selected types of object are required for this purpose. For experimental evaluation of theoretical consideration typical industrial equipment has been selected. Tritech International Sea King Side Scan Sonar provides basic facilities. It is modified to allow direct comparison of two images obtained simultaneously from two transducers working at different frequencies.

Opis:
Paper presents initial results o laboratory tests of the sonar selected as a short range tool for an underwater vehicle. It is intended for bottom located object search and identification. To evaluate sonar imaging capability expressed by its resolution, several parameters were investigated. First group of parameters regards the sonar itself, while the second regards an object material and dimensions and shape. Their cross-influence was investigated for different distances from hydrophone to an object of interest and different hydrophone elevation angles. Experiments were performed in a shallow water laboratory tank.

Opis:
Basic problem in design of an AUV as a platform that will be used for detailed area search, is selection of space imaging equipment. It is followed by selection of navigation equipment required to achieve high resolution picture of searched area. As indicated in our former presentations, we are looking for resolution of 50 mm required to identify mine like objects. This regards objects resting on the bottom or buried in sediments. Two types of side scan sonars can be considered for detection and identification of bottom objects. Due to size, weight and power restrictions, a short range, high frequency sonar capabilities were found to be suitable for the task. Recent advances in SAS technology offer new capabilities regarding Search rate and resolution, but introduces additional requirements to a platform.

Opis:
There is several algorythms known for a computer simulation of tethers used in underwater vehicles. The results of research done for specific conditions are hardly available. Practically, there is a very limited number of data available for comparision of various calculation algorythms. The described profect was directed on comparison of analytical and experimental results of the sumberged cables behaviour subjected to 3-D water flow. Experimental data were obtained in a part during tests of cable models in circular water tank. Real sea condition measurements done at full scale with ROV and underwater towed vehicles were done to compare data from test tank with reality. Sumerged cable cooridnates were obtained using super short baseline u/w navigation system. Forces inducted in the tethers were also measured using spectal measurement methods. The paper describes major problems encountered during use of the ORE LXT u/w navigation system and summarises experience with real underwater systems used in the research.

Opis:
The aim of this research was to fabricate zinc oxide/cuprous(I) oxide-based heterojunction solar cells with the use of electrodeposition methods, and further to investigate their structures and photovoltaic properties. The ZnO and Cu₂O were used as n- and p-type semiconductors, respectively, to fabricate photovoltaic devices based on Ag/ZnO/Cu₂O/Cu(100) heterojunction structures. The crystallite sizes of ZnO and Cu₂O were determined to be 25.4(3) nm and 69.8(6) nm, respectively. It was pointed out that efficiencies of the solar cells can be gradually adjusted, using different thicknesses of Cu₂O layers, to achieve values as high as 2.7%. The standard diode model and high device performance provide new insights into the issue, outlining guidelines for high-performance solar cells and suggesting that a metal-n-type semiconductor-p-type semiconductor nanostructure-crystal layered, sandwiched-type architecture is a promising platform: to boost the efficiency.

Opis:
The low power reactor for microwave chemical vapor deposition process is described. The rotating Mo holder of 12 mm diameter and 6 mm height with the diamond substrate was heated by 2.45 GHz microwaves to temperature about 800°C in the range of (1.5-7)% $CH_{4}//H_{2}$ mixture to create plasma at pressure 70 Tr. Stabilization of the holder temperature was performed by optical observation of radiation from the holder followed by adjusting of the magnetron power. Diamond detectors are produced using microwave chemical vapor deposition process grown on single crystal diamond high pressure high temperature Sumimoto substrates, [100] oriented. The response of diamond detectors for X-rays has been measured in the current mode using medical X-rays tube. The linear response of the diamond detector current versus X-ray tube current (dose) is presented.
