The research of railway track surfaces is aimed at improving the quality of railway infrastructure and providing the chance of improving the safety of driving. Therefore, it is advisable to constantly monitor track surface, but the research itself is not innovative because it is based on a known procedure. The crucial element are the techniques that allow to delve into the sources of problems. The aim of the article is to use the selected instruments of quality management to analyze the causes of track twist at high (180 km/h) speed of driving. The analysis of the causes of track twist was done on the basis of results from the measurement of one kilometer track section of the Krakow Glowny - Medyka route, which was made by using the TEC measuring device in April 2018. It was inferred that it is impossible to reach 180 km/h without track twist. In order to identify the causes of track twist it was proposed to use the selected sequence of quality management instruments, i.e.: brainstorming, Ishikawa diagram and the 5Why method. The identified causes of track twist include the abrasion of rail, scratches and exploitation point. The analysis and conclusions drawn from it may be useful in the analysis of other problems in railway transport as well as production and service industries.

The analyses of the nonconformity of products are made in order to achieve the desired level of their quality. This is also the case in the analyzed enterprise located in south-eastern Poland. Due to production character in this enterprise to identify the incompatibilities of products the non-destructive tests are used. In the current approach to quality after identified the nonconformities the cause her arise were determined, it was noted in order to use by statistical analyzes. Unfortunately, no deeper qualitative analyzes were made which could specify the source of its creation. Therefore, it was considered that it is necessary to propose to use (near current actions according to nondestructive tests) the sequence of quality management instruments. In order to improve the quality control actions, the sequence of techniques which complement each other, i.e. non-destructive tests, Ishikawa diagram and 5Why method, was proposed. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed sequence, the rear cover of the bearing turbine was selected as the subject of the analysis. The choice was conditioned by the unit character of production, which till now was discouraged a detailed analysis of sources of nonconformities. After analyzed the product with used the fluorescent method the nonconformities were identified on the rear cover of the bearing turbine, which was the porosity cluster. In order to identify the causes these nonconformities the Ishikawa diagram was drawn up. Next, the selected main causes (i.e. supplier of the product and nonconformities created during the production of the product) were analyzed the 5Why method in order to identify the source cause of the problem. In this case, it was the nonconformity material from the supplier. The proposed sequence, which uses the minimal resources let to show the wide range of information, which should be used to the improvement of quality. The presented the set of activities can be practised in each of the enterprises to analyze quality problems in order to identify the nonconformities and their causes.

Identifying inconsistencies and taking adequate actions to eliminate them is an effective way to improve the quality of products. Casting products are one of the items commonly manufactured in the foundry industry. Determining their quality becomes problematic due to a large number of factors affecting them during production which can generate various types of incompatibilities. The problem with a large number of incompatibilities of castings arose in a company in the southern part of Poland. The aim of the research was to diagnose the state of a batch of castings of industrial robot arm parts and to precisely determine the most important reasons for the occurrence of unworthiness, in relation to which appropriate preventive measures could significantly contribute to the reduction of the number of non-compliant castings and hence, waste. The analysis of incompatibilities occurring in the casting using the Pareto-Lorenz method and the ABC method allowed indication of the most important (in terms of frequency and severity) incompatibility of castings - gas porosity. Continuing the analysis of the problem by means of a brainstorming session and organizing ideas via the Ishikawa diagram made it possible to identify the key cause of the problem, which was the inadequately prepared (wet) core of the casting mold.

The visual method is one of the most important control methods in spite of the developing information technologies and very high automation of the production process. The aim of the article is to analyze the quality control of a selected part of the production process of pistons for passenger cars, for which the visual method is used, and to evaluate the application of this method as well as its influence on the improvement of the presented production process. The analysis made it possible to assess the impact of the type of non-compliance and location on the effectiveness of controls. Thanks to the analysis carried out, the dominant influence of factors, which depend on the person performing the control, on the effectiveness of the control was found.

All castings can have defects caused by, for example, deviations in material characteristics, structure or properties, but the skillful use of available technologies and quality management tools allows for the detection and elimination of casting incompatibilities as well as the prevention of their recurrence in the future. The aim of the article was to analyse the types of defects in castings, locate the areas with the most frequent occurrence of defects and identify the reasons for the presence of defects in castings of the control panel and its cover. The paper presents the usefulness of a combination of quality management instruments for diagnosing material discontinuities in the analyzed castings.

Analysis of the incompatibilities occurring in an organization relies on identifying the problem and then applying the appropriate corrective and improvement actions. It is possible by using appropriate instruments of quality management and, basically, their sequence, which is a modern way of solving the problem, and it enables the improvement of functioning of an enterprise. Therefore, it is advisable to select an appropriate group of quality management instruments and use them in the appropriate sequence, because then they are complete and lead to full analysis and conclusions adequate to the problem. The aim of the article is to analyze the correlation and influence of the selected factors on the incompatibilities in selected processes, i.e. the production process of furniture fronts and furniture in general. Moreover, the idea is to use the appropriate sequence of instruments of quality management to solve various types of incompatibilities. The analysis was made at a company where a lot of different kinds of incompatibilities in processes were identified within 9 months. It was important to solve the problem for this enterprise because it was generating relatively large financial losses, and the lack of identified causes of the problem precluded taking preventive actions and developing the enterprise. After the initial analysis of the processes and problems, it was decided to use the correlation analysis, the Pareto-Lorenz diagram, the 5W2H method, the Ishikawa diagram and the 5Why method. The methodology and conclusions drawn from the analysis may be useful in solving complex problems at other production and service enterprises.

The analysis of the problem of the mechanical damage was made for a company manufacturing furniture and furniture fronts. From January to September the company identified 285 pieces of mechanically damaged products. The management of the company wanted to identify the source of the incompatibility; therefore, it was purposeful to analyse the problem of the mechanical damage using the sequence of the selected instruments of the quality management that enable this. Additionally, until now the company has not used the instruments of the quality managements to analyse the problems involving nonconformity, so it was important to show the company their practical use. The aim was to analyse the problem of the occurrence of the mechanical damage in fronts and furniture and to identify the root cause of the problem. Also to show the effective use of the sequence of the quality management instruments (i.e. 52WH method, Pareto-Lorenz diagram, Ishikawa diagram, 5Why method) to solve the problem of incompatibility. It was concluded that the root cause of the mechanical damage of fronts and furniture was the lack of management knowledge and awareness of the need to implement visualization principles in the company. The analysis and the proposed improvement actions may be practiced in other companies from both the production and service industries.

Increasing awareness and the number of activities for environmental protection has influenced the development of environmental management systems. Currently, there is a wide range of environmental management systems that can be implemented thus organizations can choose which system suits their activities best. Among small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises, the most popular is a system based on the ISO 14001 standard. Therefore, it seems advisable to promote the skillful implementation of this system. The study was devoted to this issue. It pointed out that the participation of an external consultant, the size of the enterprise as well as the nature of the activity in small and medium manufacturing enterprises has a small importance at the time of its implementation. To implement such a system skillfully, preparation work period for designing and implementing should last about 9 - 12 months.

The first part of this article presents methodological assumptions for the construction of the overall equipment effectiveness index (oee). Further, the shortened technological process of the product is presented and the analysis of losses in the context of the causes of machine downtime and the type of non-conformity of the products is made. The last part presents the results of the diagnosis in the scope of monitoring and analysis of the total efficiency index of equipment (oee) carried out on an exemplary production line of doors and proposes comprehensive improvement actions in order to improve the unsatisfactory condition of the machinery stock use efficiency.

Opis:
A photocode in Polish is a common name for a two-dimensional code, which is characterized by higher information capacity than a traditional barcode. The paper analyses the use of the two-dimensional coding system - DataMatrix to identify and classify the material stream in the production process. The analysis showed the effectiveness of the implementation of the coding system in the context of increased availability, machine use and increased product quality. The improvement in the production process is confirmed by an increase in the OEE index. As part of further improvement measures, the coding system should be implemented throughout the enterprise, its compatibility with existing systems should be ensured and applied to all products.

The article reviews the literature on the concept of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) in manufacturing activities as one of the elements of lean production. On the example of an automotive manufacturing company, the TPM implementation process and the analysis of the effectiveness of the implementation of the method using the OEE indicator were presented. The analysis not only confirmed the effectiveness of the TPM concept in reducing the level and duration of machine failures, but also provided recommendations for further development of the concept in the company, and a basis for formulating objectives for the future.

Effective quality management is a factor that determines the development of a company. Quality management measures include quality planning, quality control, quality assurance and quality improvement. The aim of the research was to diagnose the condition of a cable well at quality control points and to precisely define the reasons why appropriate preventive measures could significantly contribute to the reduction of the number of non-compliant products. Additionally, the aim was to propose a sequence of actions supporting the analysis of production problems (occurrence of incompatibilities in the tested product). Due to the growing number of complaints in the company and the lack of analysis of the causes of the situation. Sequences of quality management methods were applied, thanks to which inconsistencies occurring in products were classified in terms of their significance and frequency of occurrence (Pareto-Lorenza diagram). Additionally, the analysis of the reasons for non-compliance was performed (method 5Why?). The most important inconsistency in the tested product are cracks in the bottom part of the product, which is caused by low qualifications of the employees.
Efektywne zarządzanie jakością stanowi czynnik warunkujący rozwój przedsiębiorstwa. Środki zarządzania jakością obejmują planowanie jakości, kontrolę jakości, zapewnienie jakości i poprawę jakości. Celem badań było zdiagnozowanie w punktach kontroli jakości stanu studni kablowej oraz precyzyjne określenie przyczyn, w stosunku do których odpowiednie działania zapobiegawcze mogłyby w znaczący sposób przyczynić się do zmniejszenia liczby niezgodnych wyrobów. Dodatkowo celem było zaproponowanie sekwencji działań wspomagających analizę problemów produkcyjnych (występowanie niezgodności w badanym wyrobie). W związku z rosnącą liczbą reklamacji w przedsiębiorstwie oraz brakiem analiz przyczyn zaistniałej sytuacji zastosowano sekwencje metod zarządzania jakością, dzięki czemu sklasyfikowano niezgodności występujące w wyrobach pod kątem ich istotności oraz częstości występowania (diagram Pareto-Lorenza). Dodatkowo wykonano analizę przyczyn niezgodności (metoda 5Why?). Najistotniejszą niezgodnością w badanym wyrobie są pęknięcia dolnej części wyrobu, czego przyczyną są niskie kwalifikacje pracowników.

Effective quality management of the product is an element that allows profit within the enterprise. Identifying unconformity and establishing their source enables quality. However, identifying unconformity is sometimes neglected. Such was evident in the analysis of the service-manufacturing enterprise located in Podkarpacie. In the enterprise, quality was assessed via non-destructive testing (via fluorescence), but decisions on sources of non-compliance were made without utilizing additional methods that allow source identification. Hence, the way of recognizing unconformity was not precise. Therefore, method sequence (Ishikawa diagram and 5Why method) approaches were proposed to enable this. The aim of this paper is to show the effectiveness of such approaches in identifying sources of unconformity. The subject of study was tubing that is used in aircraft engines. Via the applied analysis, the unconformity in production and the source cause was traced to material supplied from outside. The proposed method sequence approach can be used in other enterprises for quality analyses purposes.

The aim of the article is to evaluate the current situation of research and development management in the view of the fulfillment of the strategy of Europe 2020 by Poland and Slovakia and, based on the results of analysis, to predict the expected development of the indicator by 2020 and assesses the reaching their national targets in monitored area. Regression analysis is used to estimate the trends feature for predicting the expected development of the indicator expressing the share of expenditure on R&D of GDP in 2020. To describe and evaluate the development of monitored indicator during the 11 or 22 years period, we are using trend comparison. Based on the stated results it is possible to determine the predicted values of the indicator in the future and then evaluate whether that country will manage to achieve its set target by 2020.
Celem artykułu jest ocena aktualnej sytuacji zarządzania badaniami i rozwojem przez Polskę i Słowację, pod kątem realizacji strategii „Europa 2020” oraz w oparciu o wyniki analizy, prognozowanie oczekiwanego rozwoju wskaźnika do 2020 roku i ocenę celów krajowych w monitorowanym obszarze. Analiza regresji posłużyła do oszacowania charakterystyki trendów dla prognozowania oczekiwanego rozwoju wskaźnika wyrażającego udział wydatków na B + R w PKB do 2020 r. Do opisu i oceny rozwoju monitorowanego wskaźnika w okresie 11 lub 22 lat wykorzystano porównanie trendów. Na podstawie otrzymanych wyników można określić przewidywane wartości wskaźnika w przyszłości, a następnie ocenić, czy krajowi uda się osiągnąć wyznaczony cel do 2020 roku.
