The Internet and Internet search engines have revolutionized the way in which we search for, and integrate information into our daily lives. One of the problems with general Internet search engines is the diversity of contexts queries can assume. Therefore, the construction of context-restricted search engines designed for use within a specialized domain has been proposed (S. Lawrence, 2000). The objective of this article is to suggest a model for a collaborative, personalized meta-search agent system for the virtual manufacturing enterprise in the context of resource location and integration across scope of the extended manufacturing enterprise. The key differences between the proposed model and general search engines are (1) the ability to personalize the search task according to an individual user need, (2) the utilization of similar search sessions through partner collaboration at an information retrieval level, (3) leveraging on existing search services available on the virtual enterprise extranet and (4) autonomous behaviour through the use of intelligent agents. The perceived benefits of a such search agent system for the virtual enterprise are: (1) Enabling a consistent and uniform view of business entities through improved access to information, (2) Simplified access to operational data, (3) Effective access and retrieval of organizational model elements and (4) Improving data location and sharing between trading partners providing a platform for tighter process integration between trading partners. These benefits are critical for effective decision making in a collaborative engineering process followed by the differing entities in a virtual manufacturing organization to ultimately enable final product realization. An evaluation strategy for the COPEMSA system presented is then briefly discussed, metrics for evaluation of focused crawlers and justification for development and implementation of the search system proposed. Finally, this article concludes with remarks about the model presented and future research to be undertaken.

Packed bed reactors using metal hydride are attracting a lot of attention as potential hydrogen storage systems. Some operational and design variables are major constraints to obtain a proper infl ow/outfl ow of hydrogen into a metal hydride reactor. These variables include packed bed thermal conductivity, porosity, pressure and temperature distributions in the reactor during the absorption/desorption cycle. They also cause a mechanical stress induced by temperature gradient. In this paper, two dimensional models are implemented in COMSOL multiphysics to simulate the hydrogen fl ow, pressure and temperature distributions in the packed bed reactor during absorption/desorption cycle. Also, stresses in porous metal hydride induced by temperature variation in the heating/cooling cycle were evaluated. A possible effect of stress induced, porosity changes on diffusion and heating of hydrogen in both radial and axial direction in packed bed is discussed. The model consists of a system of partial differential equations (PDE) describing structural mechanics of stress, heat and mass transfer of hydrogen in the porous matrix of the packed bed reactor.

The process of interaction between circularly polarized coherent transverse phonons and slow electrokinetic waves in the centrosymmetric crystal placed in a longitudinal magnetic field and possessing strong strain dependence of the dielectric constant caused by the electrostriction is considered. The cut-off system of equations for the process of nonlinear four-wave interaction in crystal with a quadratic electrostriction corresponding to direct energy conversion from helicon to acoustic wave is derived. The solution is sought for numerically in the vicinity of a synchronism point determined by the intersection of helicon and phonon dispersion curves at different values of semiconductor plasma parameters. The results show the possibility of effective phonon parametric amplification in semiconductor crystal with the electroinduced elastic anisotropy.

This paper is devoted to the results of studies in a wind tunnel model aircraft mounted with the vortex generators on the wing leading edge. The article presents away to improve the aerodynamic characteristics with vortex generators on the leading edge in the direct flow. It is shown that the vortex generators increase the lift force and the critical angle of attack due to the impact of large-scale vortices on the flow separation. Experimental data of studies of the wing in the wind tunnel showed rationality of use of volume generators - there usage enlarges the range of flight angles of attack and significantly increases lift-to-drag ratio.
Niniejsza praca poświęcona jest wynikom badań w tunelu aerodynamicznym modelu samolotu wyposażonemu w generatory wirów na krawędzi natarcia skrzydła. W artykule przedstawiono sposób na poprawę właściwości aerodynamicznych samolotu z generatorami wirów na krawędzi natarcia w bezpośrednim strumieniu powietrza. Wykazano, że generatory wirów prowadzą do zwiększenia siły nośnej i krytycznego kąta natarcia z powodu wpływu dużych wirów na rozdzielenie przepływu. Dane doświadczalne badania skrzydła w tunelu aerodynamicznym wykazały, racjonalność wykorzystania generatorów wirów. Wykorzystanie powiększa zakres kątów natarcia i znacznie zwiększa współczynnik siły nośnej.

Numerical results are presented for aerodynamic unsteady and steady airfoil characteristics of the NACA 0018 airfoil of a two-dimensional vertical-axis wind turbine. A geometrical model of the Darrieus-type wind turbine and the rotor operating parameters used for numerical simulation are taken from the literature. Airfoil characteristics are investigated using the same mesh distribution around the airfoil edges and two turbulence models: the RNG k-ε and the SST Transition. Computed results for the SST Transition model are in good agreement with the experiment, especially for static airfoil characteristics.

Natural clay has been considered as a potential absorbent for removing pollutants from water and waste water. Nonetheless, the effective application of clay for water treatment is limited due to small surface area and presence of net negative surface charge, leading to it low adsorption capacity. The absorption capacity was boosted via intercalation of CaO derived from snail shell (SS). The methylene blue sorption potential, PZC, and the surface area of unmodified clay sample were substantially enhanced by the intercalation process. The process of sorption of MB from solution was analyzed using five different isotherm models (Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Harkins-Jura, and Halsey isotherm equations). The value of the Langmuir monolayer sorption capacity qm (mg/g) increased from 50.12 to 88.71, PZC values increased from 4.50 to 7.40, and the surface area (m2/g) value increased from 27 m2/g to 123 m2/g after the intercalation process. The experimental data were fitted into two kinetic models: Lagergren pseudo-first order and the chemisorptions pseudo-second order. It was observed that chemisorptions pseudo-second order kinetic model described the sorption process with high coefficients of determination (r2) better than pseudo first other kinetic models. The modification caused no change in the clay surficial microstructure but increased the lattice spacing of the clay framework.

The behaviour of carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.) powder relevant to its densification at low pressure was determined given different equipment aspect ratios (0.5, 1.0 and 1.5) and varying rates of deformation (5.5, 10 and 14.5 mm min-1). The effects of both parameters were examined through the analysis of variance and trends were fitted to observed mechanical responses using standard regression technique. Both aspect ratio and the time rate of deformation had highly significant effects on the material’s response to load. Strain rate and specific power requirement were power functions of the equipment’s aspect ratio, at all rates of deformation. These findings furnish insights on mechanical response in compressed food powders which are applicable in modelling related food handling and processing systems.

This paper considers the degree of competition among small and medium-sized container ports located in a multi-port gateway region. The level of port competition is evaluated by means of an analysis of the revealed preferences in the port-calling pattern of container feeder vessels deployed on their various links and routes. Unit of analysis is feeder vessel sailing legs and ports stays at/between adjacent container ports. At these ports’ terminals, ships are moored and loading and unloading of containers are performed. The vessel movement data is provided by the Automatic Identification System (AIS). A study of the principal container ports in the Oslo Fjord area is performed, measuring the actual container feeder traffic during the year of 2015. It is demonstrated to which extent ports in the Oslo Fjord region are acting as substitutes, and to which extent they are functioning more as a complement to each other.

The review aims at explaining the role of larvae of tissue helminthes in suppression of protective responses of the host during xenotransplantation. We analyse the influence of invasion in the host by larvae of tissue helminths on the development of the graft against host reaction. The role of secrets and excrets of parasites in suppression of protective responses of the host is clarified at allotransplantation. The author considers the nature of immunodepressive components generated with larvae of helminthes in preventing response of the graft against host reaction. The role of corticosteroids and eicosanoids, secreted by parasites, in suppression of immune responses of the host is estimated at allotransplantation.

The field study involved 4 sites and 15 samples according to the wind directions: North, East, South and West. The analysis was conducted through the use of Atomic Absorption spectroscopy (AAS). Ten types of heavy metals were identified as indicators for pollution namely Mg, Ca, Mn, Fe, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni, Cr, and Cd. The results indicated that the concentration of Fe was the most dominant per specific distances and depths and exceeded the minimum standard in North, East and West directions. While Cu was the second most dominant with concentration exceeding minimum standard per specific distance and depth, mainly in the West direction. The results have shown presence of bacterial species including Pseudomonas, Mirococcus, Actinomyces, Neisseria, Bacillus and Klebsiella. These pathogens can infect wounds and cause sepsis and mortality and can even occur with such organisms to cause secondary infection. These groups of organisms are almost impossible to control since they are ubitiquous.

In this paper we study a correlation between the optical properties, electronic structure and anion-cation electronegativity difference in three groups of alkali halides MX (M = Li, Na, K; X = F, Cl, Br, I). The electronic structure was calculated by first-principle, density-functional theory based full-potential linear augmented plane wave method. Then the complex dielectric function was computed, allowing determination of the optical absorption spectra in all compounds, up to incident radiation energy of 40 eV. The results were interpreted in terms of calculated band structures and correlated with the electronegativity difference in each compound, which was estimated on the basis of topological theory of Bader.

Fruits producing medicinal plants are particularly desirable, the seeds produced are considered as waste after the fruits are consumed. This study assessed the nutritional constituents of some fruits seeds by assessing the proximate, minerals and vitamins present in the seeds of Citrullus lanatus (Water melon), Malus pumila (Apple), Annona muricata (Sour sap), Persea americana (Avocado), Terminalia catappa (Almond fruit), and Carica papaya (Pawpaw). The proximate analysis, mineral and vitamin composition of the selected medicinal fruit seeds were investigated using the standard method of analysis. On the proximate composition, protein content ranged from 15.21-34.70%, crude fat: 13.82-33.15%, crude fibre: 6.96-21.71%, ash content: 2.62-5.90%, moisture content: 7.81-20.72% and carbohydrate: 12.19-26.58%; for mineral content, Sodium ranged from 26.2-832 mg/kg, Potassium: 571-4862 mg/kg, Calcium: 194-2070 mg/kg, Magnesium: 28-862 mg/kg, Phosphorus: 104-1070 mg/kg, Iron: 2.53-60.00 mg/kg, Manganese: 2.73-240 mg/kg, Copper: 1.64-73.00 mg/kg and Zinc: 3.42-84.00 mg/kg, while for vitamins, vitamin C (Ascorbic acid) content ranged from 1.26-23.54 mg/100g, vitamin E content ranged from 0.70-1.57 mg/100g; vitamin A (β-carotene) content ranged from not detected-5.61 mg/100g, while vitamin B content ranged from 0.02 mg/100g-2.67 mg/100g. The fruits’ seeds show a considerable amount of vital nutritional chemicals which makes them as good as the fruits and could serve as nutraceutical remedy.

Herbal plants play an unprecedented role in preventing and treating of human diseases. For many years, people have been using medicinal plants in traditional medicine. Human civilization around the world have been associated with plants, however, plants are known as a rich source of phytochemical compounds that enable it to have a medicinal value. In the development of herbal and conventional drugs, medicinal plants are potential sources. In the 21st century, medicinal plants have been considered due to its pharmacological effects as a promising drug for the management of diverse health implication. The resurgence of interest to discover medicinal plants as a potential source of new drug has become imperative. Even though synthetic drugs are gaining ground in the healthcare system all over the world, however, available evidences suggest that nature will be a pointer for drug discovery. Hence, there is a need to understand and discover the knowledge of medicinal plants as a rich source of herbal drugs knowing fully well its active compositions.

Seed coats of some plant are impermeable to water which cause seed dormancy that prevents germination to be prolonged. For seeds to be effectively propagated in the nursery, it is mandatory to apply some pre-treatment to give utmost rapid and uniform germination percentage. The germination patterns and seedling growth rate differs due to some climatic conditions, geographical influence and differences in their genes. This study aims at assessing the growth response and biomass yield of four accessions of Dialium guineense seeds. Fruits samples were purchased at the markets in four different locations Oyo (Oje), Abuja (Gwagwalada), Abia (Ahia Ukwu) and Edo (Auchi). D. guineense seeds were pre-treated by soaking in water for 48hrs before planting. The germination tray was labelled as Oyo (A1), Abia (A2), Edo (A3), Abuja (A4), and replicated 4 times then placed in the propagator. The parameters to be checked are leaf count, collar diameter, leaf area, stem height and biomass. The mean leaf count for the 12 weeks, Abuja (A4) has the highest leaf count, for collar diameter, accession (A3) Edo has the highest collar diameter while accession (A4) performed best in mean stem height across the weeks suggesting that provenance has a great influence on the growth of D. guineense. The results conducted for mean wet biomass leaf and mean wet biomass shoot indicated accession (A4) Abuja yielded the highest mean value. Mean wet root biomass was significantly different within the first six weeks and shows no significant difference at the end of the weeks. For mean dry leaf biomass and mean dry shoot biomass, accession A4 proves the highest mean value while accession 3 and 4 had a comparable value of dry root biomass which is quite significantly different from the other two accessions which also have same values. This present study shows seed source affects the parameters checked, this may be due to their genetic nature or difference in adaptation to various climatic conditions in the areas where the samples were collected.

Vegetative propagation is any form of asexual reproduction occurring in plants in which a new plant grows from a fragment of the parent plant. Different methods of propagation can be used for plants because they respond differently. Based on plant growing uniformly, increasing the production of these plants, their resistance to pest and diseases, early bearing of fruits and having some certain traits in the new generated plants, various techniques of propagation have been designed for it. Plants can be propagated through sexual and asexual methods. Sexual one involves the use of seeds while asexual involves the vegetative parts of plant in raising new ones. The parts of the stem cutting mostly used are leaves, root, stems and terminal bud, due their simplicity. There are various trees on which stem cuttings can be done based on their maturity. It can be done on either herbaceous, hardwood, softwood or semi-hardwood due to their convenience and the stem cuttings of some more difficult to root than others. Asexual propagation involves stem cuttings, air layering, grafting, budding and micro propagation. Adoption of these forms of vegetative propagation has increased over the years and different species have been propagated through each of these methods with various degree of success. This paper aims at reviewing various techniques in propagating plant species.

This particular study deals with the impact of pre-sowing nanotube-based seed treatment technology on rapeseed (Brassica napus) growth and yield. During field tests we identified a significant yield increase as a result of applying the pre-sowing nanotube-based seed treatment technology. The main treatment agents were physiologically active nanochips consisting of carrier matrix nanotubes with eliciting activity ("Taunit", "Taunit-M", "Taunit-MD", and graphene). Enriching nanochips with insecticide-fungicide Kruizer-rape for guaranteed seed protection from crucifer flea allowed to raise the yield up to 8.08 t / ha - 12.28 t / ha.

The Nuclear and Energy Research Institute has produced, since 1998, iridium-192 wires used in low dose rate brachytherapy. In the paper the authors studied the influence of wire profile on the homogeneity distribution of radioactivity of iridium-192 along the wire. The authors propose the improvements in the quality control procedure that will provide more accurate measurement data and suggest changes in control devices.
