Opis:: The main problems occurring during high power device modeling are discussed in this paper. Unipolar and bipolar device properties are compared and the problems concerning high time-constant values related to the diffusion phenomena in the large base are explained. Traditional and novel concepts of power device simulation are presented. In order to make accurate and modern semiconductor device models widely accessible, a website has been designed and made available to Internet users, allowing them to perform simulations of electronic circuits containing high power semiconductor devices. In this software, a new distributed model of power diode has been included. Together with the existing VDMOS macromodel library, the presented approach can facilitate the design process of power circuits. In the future, distributed models of IGBT, BJT and thyristor will be added.

Opis:: In this paper the Iris Finder program is presented for the first time. It is software for reliable iris localisation in images taken under visible light. The program is intended for researches on a system for automatic persons identification based on iris pattern. Performance of the software was verified on two databases. For the first database the program correctly localises iris for all 141 images. For the second database the iris was incorrectly localised only for 4 images from the entire database containing 1205 units.

Opis:: The Apache Hadoop framework is an answer to the market tendencies regarding the need for storing and processing rapidly growing amounts of data, providing a fault-tolerant distributed storage and data processing. Dealing with large volumes of data, Hadoop, and its storage system HDFS (Hadoop Distributed File System), face challenges to keep the high efficiency with computing in a reasonable time. The typical Hadoop implementation transfers computation to the data. However, in the isolated configuration, namenode (playing the role of a master in the cluster) still favours the closer nodes. Basically it means that before the whole task has run, significant delays can be caused by moving single blocks of data closer to the starting datanode. Currently, a Hadoop user does not have influence how the data is distributed across the cluster. This paper presents an innovative functionality to the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) that enables moving data blocks on request within the cluster. Data can be shifted either by a user running the proper HDFS shell command or programmatically by other modules, like an appropriate scheduler.

Opis:: The 21st century is undoubtedly a period of enormous progress in the field of digital technology, a period in which the boundary between the real world and the virtual world becomes less and less visible. The Internet has undeniably become a facilitation of everyday life, since it is a tool of work, communication or a way to spend free time for many users. The virtual world is present in almost all areas of our lives, and people spend more and more time in front of the computer screens, operating websites, e-mails or social networks. Highly developed digital technology is a boon of the 21st century, but despite its numerous advantages, negative aspects are also visible. Virtual knowledge displaces physical interpersonal contacts; physical activity is replaced by spending free time in front of a computer monitor. Various threats (social, psychological, psychological, ethical and moral) resulting from modern digital technologies and the increasing degree of dependence on them are extremely significant. The authors of this article present the results of own research, aiming at making the reader aware that there are both positive and negative aspects of the virtual world.
