Opis:
The main aim of the text is to discuss a conception of conspiracy theory as narration which draw a parallel with gossip and urban legend as far as its features and functions are concerned. The author chooses the example of the false flag operation which concerns September 11 attacks and describes it as a unique category of myth which legitimizes actions taken by – for instance – the ruling class. The author builds her conceptual frame on the Malinowski’s theory of myth and its function – she tries to prove that it can be still valid in contemporary anthropology.

Opis:
The subject of the chapter The Rise and Fall and Rise of the Walking Dead – from “Night of the Living Dead” to September 11 is the figure of the zombie in mainstream filmography. The zombie is a kind of “uncannybody”—a figure used in the cinema, but also a phenomenon whose origins should be sought in the beliefs of the West African communities which, together with slaves, found their way to the area of today’s Haiti. The subject of this article is the figure of zombie in mainstream filmography, with the main objective to show the zombie as a metaphor (used in films from the 1930s) and the correlation of such metaphors and the cyclical emergence of zombie films. The article presents three metaphors: the zombie as a metaphor of slavery, as an external threat, and asan ideology; and four cycles of periodicity: the beginning, flourishing, decadence, and renaissance. The correlation between cycles is used to link zombie discourse with conspiracy theories and magical thinking.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to show conspiratorial thinking combined with technophobia. The author presents the similarities and relations between conspiracy theories and other narratives (present in popular culture), which emerged as the aftermath of the Cold War and apocalyptic fears. The article presents three options for the perception of the relation between technology and conspiracy theories: in the context of dystopian and utopian cultural texts, and in the context of space as no-place, in which there operates a community centered around conspiracy theories.

Opis:
The subject of Santana Murawska’s chapter The Zombie Metaphor—from the Vodouistic Vision of the World to Neoliberalism is the figure of zombie in mainstream filmography and its purpose is to show zombie as a metaphor (used in films since the 1930s). Murawska focuses here on the use of the zombie metaphor in three cycles of movies. The first cycle begins with White Zombie and refers to the Haitian beliefs. The second cycle comprises the movies featuring the character of a mad scientist or the participation of aliens. The third cycle begins with Night of the Living Dead and uses zombie as a figure of the living dead. The chapter, therefore, discusses three metaphors: zombie as slavery, zombie as an external threat, and zombie as an ideology. All cycles are connected by the character of bokor—a sorcerer in the Haitian tradition. The ways of using zombies as metaphors indicate culturally significant fears and traumas, which are decoded by discourse analysis.
