Opis:
We present a study of the photoluminescence properties of heavily Be δ-doped GaAs/AlAs multiple quantum wells measured at room and liquid nitrogen temperatures. Possible mechanisms for photocarriers recombination are discussed, with a particular focus on the peculiarities of the excitonic and free carriers-acceptors photoluminescence emissions occurring below and above the Mott metal-insulator transition. Moreover, based on a simple theoretical model, it is found that the critical impurities concentration to observe the Mott transition in the multiple quantum wells samples exhibiting 15 nm wells width and 5 nm thick barrier layers is ≈3×$10^{12} cm^{-2}$.

Opis:
Photoreflectance spectroscopy and photoluminescence have been used to study the optical properties and electronic structure of InGaAs quantum rods grown by molecular beam epitaxy. Spectral features associated with interband optical transitions localized in the quantum rod and the surrounding quantum well regions are examined. Experimental results are compared with calculations performed within the envelope function approximation. A red shift of the quantum rod- and a blue shift of the quantum well-related optical transitions, along with a significant increase in PL intensity have been observed if an $As_4$ source is used instead of an $As_2$ source during the molecular beam epitaxial growth.

Opis:
The authors demonstrate selective detection of terahertz radiation employing berylliumδ-doped GaAs/AlAs multiple quantum wells. The sensitivity up to 1 V/W within 4.2-7.3 THz range at liquid helium temperatures is reached. The Franz-Keldysh oscillations observed in photo- and electroreflectance spectra allowed one to estimate built-in electric fields in the structures studied. It was found that the electric field strength in the cap layer region could vary from 10 kV/cm up to 26 kV/cm, depending on the structure design and temperature.

Opis:
The growth of thin oxide films has been covered by several theories and models. The high electrical field model, Fowler-Nordheim tunneling in Metal Oxide films and Schottyky barrier Mechanisms are models which explain metal oxide formation. The growth mechanisms and process control parameters during thin film growth in electrochemical anodization play a key role in the growth process. This work explores how the growth mechanisms correlate with process control parameters to influence the growth process in electrochemical anodization of titanium dioxide nanotubes (TNTs). The theories on growth mechanism have been explained in detail. On the experimental part, TiO2 nanotubes were synthesized for photocatalytic activity using electrochemical anodization in a third generation electrolyte. The electrolyte comprised of a mixture of ethylene glycol and ammonium fluoride in little amount of water. Anodizing time and electrode separation distance were explored as process control parameters. The TNTs were analysed using SEM, XRD, Profilometer and UV-Visible spectrophotometer. Short electrode separation distance recorded fast growth, non-uniformity in TNTS, disorganisation, distortion and etching of TNTs. The TNT length, inner and outer diameters reduced with increasing electrode separation distance due to reduction of electric field, increased bulk resistance. There was no significant increase in TNT dimensions at electrode separation distance of 4.5 cm which also recorded the smallest grain size for the TNTs highest degree of crystallinity for with absorption maxima at 550 nm. TNT length, inner and outer diameters and crystallinity increased with anodising time.

Opis:
Background. Complex high grade proximal tibia fractures with associated extensive soft tissue injury pose a management challenge. The timing of surgery and fracture fixation options depend upon the extent of soft tissue damage. Post-operative complications such as wound breakdown, infection and infected non-union are common in such cases managed early with open reduction and internal fixation. Such fractures can be treated with primary closed reduction and Ilizarov/hybrid fixator application. Materials and methods. It is a retrospective cross sectional study conducted at two tertiary care multispecialty hospitals to report the mid-term clinical and radiological outcomes of complex high grade proximal tibia fractures. These injuries were managed by closed reduction and external fixation with/without minimal internal fixation as a definitive procedure and outcome measures were checked with serial radiographs and functional scores at a regular interval of follow up. 17 patients with Schatzker’s type 5 or 6 proximal tibia fractures with soft tissue compromise were operated on at two tertiary care referral centres from 2017 to 2019. These cases were operated on by two experienced trauma surgeons. Periodic follow-up was done and radiological and functional progression noted from case records. Results. Average time to union was noted to be 12.59 weeks and mean time of fixator removal was 21.4 weeks. At the end of 1 year of follow-up, average range of motion was 121.76 degrees, average WOMAC score was 74.81(63-82) and KOOS score was 78.24(63-85). Conclusions. 1. Hybrid/Ilizarov fixator method is a safe way of fixing high energy proximal tibia fractures. It is associated with a good functional outcome, less soft tissue complications and allows early weight bearing. 2. We recommend this method of treatment for complex high grade proximal tibia fractures.

Opis:
A new nuclear model to calculate the binding energy of nuclei is proposed. The nucleus is assumed to be composed of two regions; the inner core region and surface region. The inner core is assumed to be composed of Z proton-neutron pairs (Z = N) and the surface region is composed of the unpaired neutrons for a nucleus in which N>Z. The interaction between the core and neutrons in the surface region is assumed to be such that it leads to an average potential Vo in which each neutron in the surface region can move. Knowing the experimental values for the binding energy of nuclei, this average interaction potential Vo has been calculated for light, medium and heavy nuclei. It is found that Vo varies for isotopes and isotones. For isotopes the value of Vo decreases as the neutron number (N) in the surface region of the nucleus increases. The decrease in Vo is quite large when the neutron number increases by unity in light nuclei compared to heavy nuclei. For isotones, the value of Vo increases with an increase in proton number (Z). This is evident for both light nuclei and heavy nuclei.

Opis:
The properties of two component interacting gas of bosons are studied by assuming two slightly different types of interactions between the atoms of the two gases. The system is described by two operators a and b, that are used to diagonalize the Hamiltonian of the system by the method of Bogoliubov or canonical transformation. The diagonalized Hamiltonian gives the quasi-particle energy spectrum of the system. From the quasi-particle energy spectrum, the role of interaction in each interacting system is studied. The interacting system, which is more likely to be physically acceptable, and can undergo phase transition, is pointed out.
