    The reviewed book of Janusz Łosowski attempts to investigate the importance of written documentation in the life of peasants in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the 16th–18th centuries, especially in the lands of the Polish Crown, basing mostly on the sources concerning Lesser Poland (Małopolska). The study of Łosowski has been based upon extensive and thorough archive query, including very interesting groups of sources (some of them excerpted in the annexes). It attempts to deepen the knowledge of early modern legal culture and mentality of peasant societies.

    The text deals with the problem of the proper interpretation of the institution of villicus, mentioned in Upper Lusatia in the 1st half of the 13th century. The article discusses all the hitherto attempts to identify the actual nature of the Upper Lusatian villici and proposes some new interpretations. The close relations of those villici with chartered towns (namely: Zgorzelec/Görlitz and Ostritz) and the virtual lack of royal estates around them makes it possible to state that they were not, as most scholars have claimed, royal stewards taking care of estates administered directly by the Bohemian kings (in Upper Lusatia such goods probably barely existed at all). Therefore, the most probable interpretation of the villici seems to be the one presented in 1923 by J. Bauermann, who identifi ed them with the sculteti hereditarii of particular towns.

    Awaria układu oświetleniowego pojazdu przejawiająca się brakiem światła mijania jednego z jego reflektorów znacząco wpływa na rozkład plamy świetlnej. Badania samochodu marki Skoda Fabia wykazały, że plama świetlna o natężeniu 10 lx, tj. taka, w której występuje możliwość zauważenia ciemnej nieoświetlonej przeszkody (np. pieszego), może ulegać znacznemu zredukowaniu: w zakresie zasięgu o około 20% w przypadku awarii lewego reflektora i około 24% w przypadku awarii prawego reflektora; w zakresie szerokości o około 23% w przypadku awarii lewego reflektora i około 24% w przypadku awarii prawego reflektora; w zakresie pola powierzchni o około 44% w przypadku awarii lewego reflektora i około 43% w przypadku awarii prawego reflektora. Jednocześnie badania wykazały różnice pomiędzy rozkładem plamy świetlnej świateł mijania badanego pojazdu i rozkładem tzw. uśrednionej plamy świetlnej świateł mijania. Stanowi to przesłankę wskazującą na konieczność indywidualnego podejścia do każdego pojazdu uczestniczącego w zdarzeniu drogowym, w którym problem widoczności przeszkód w światłach pojazdu jest istotny dla oceny zachowania jego uczestników.
    The failure of vehicle lighting system, in particular no dipped headlight in of vehicle reflectors, significantly affects the distribution of light patch. Examination of Skoda Fabia has demonstrated that light of 10 lx intensity, ie. the one enabling dark unlit objects (such as pedestrians) to be seen, may be significantly reduced of 20% in case of breakdown of left reflector and approx. 24% in case of breakdown of right reflector; in width range of nearly 23% in case of breakdown of left reflector and about 24% in case of breakdown of right reflector, in surface area range – nearly 44% - breakdown of left reflector and 43% - in case of breakdown of right reflector. Furthermore, the examinations have indicated differences in the distribution of dipped headlight light patches and the distribution of the so-called averaged dipped headlight light patch. This constitutes grounds for applying individual approach towards each vehicle involved in a traffic accident where the problem of visibility of objects is essential in evaluating incident circumstances.

    W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono problem oceny bezpieczeństwa przejść dla pieszych, m.in. na przykładach działań podejmowanych w Norwegii, Australii i we Włoszech. W przypadku Oslo w oparciu o raport „T0I Report 1231/2012" przedstawiono ramy oceny bezpieczeństwa przejść dla pieszych i wyniki pokontrolne. Natomiast w przypadku Australii przedstawiono podstawy metody oceny bezpieczeństwa przejść dla pieszych stworzonej na jednym z tamtejszych uniwersytetów, Monash University, która jak podkreślają jej autorzy w wielu płaszczyznach wymaga dopracowania. Podane w artykule przykłady wskazują na istotny problem w tworzeniu metod oceny bezpieczeństwa niechronionych uczestników ruchu drogowego i ich zastosowań aplikacyjnych w programach ramowych wdrażanych w dużych aglomeracjach miejskich. Pomimo wskazanych trudności niewątpliwie występuje możliwość stworzenia obiektywnej metody oceny bezpieczeństwa pieszych, co może być przedmiotem opracowań naukowych.
    This article presents an issue of the assessment of pedestrian crosswalks safety, based on the example of actions undertaken in Norway and Australia. In Oslo, the criteria for safety assessment on pedestrian crossings and the audit results were presented in theT0l Report 1231/2012. In Australia, a draft methodology for pedestrian crosswalks safety assessment, which, according to the authors, needs an improvement at multiple levels, has been developed at Monash University. The examples presented in the article indicate a significant problem with the elaboration of safety assessment methods of unprotected pedestrians and their applications within the framework programs implemented in large urban agglomerations. Despite the difficulties mentioned above, there are undeniably some possibilities regarding the elaboration of an objective pedestrian safety assessment method, which may be the subject to scientific studies.

    This paper presents results of the characterisation of type I GaSb/AlSb superlattices (SLs) with a thin GaSb layer and varying thicknesses of an AlSb layer. Nextnano software was utilized to obtain spectral dependence of absorption and energy band structure. A superlattice (SL) with an energy bandgap of ~ 1.0 eV and reduced mismatch value was selected for experimental investigation. SLs with single (sample A) and double (sample B) AlSb barriers and a single AlSb layer (sample C) were fabricated using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). Optical microscopy, high-resolution X-ray diffractometry, and photoluminescence were utilized for structural and optical characterisation. The presence of satellite and interference peaks in diffraction curves confirms the high crystal quality of superlattices. Photoluminescence signal associated with the superlattice was observed only for sample B and contained three low-intensity peaks: 1.03, 1.18, and 1.25 eV. The first peak was identified as the value of the energy bandgap of the SL. Other two peaks are related to optical transitions between defect states located at the interface between the SL and the top AlSb barrier. The time-dependent changes observed in the spectral characteristics are due to a modification of the SL/AlSb interface caused by the oxidation and hydroxylation of the AlSb layer.
