Opis:
The three-part text – as the title suggests – involves multifaceted problem of abstraction. Part I. Pedigree of abstraction. The emergence of abstraction is the result of consistent course of different phenomena, beginning as early as the nineteenth century and preparing the ground for appearance of Kandinsky and Malevich at the beginning of the first decade of the twentieth century. In the same time the existence of duality is connected with two forms of abstraction as a continuation of instances of those artists: forms of abstraction of ‘poetics of expression’ and forms of abstraction of ‘poetics geometry’. The opposition of figurative and abstract art is the result of common oversimplification, as well as the binding of its existence only with the twentieth century.

Opis:
The text Analiza formalna filmu – analiza warsztatowa – analiza ‘partyturowa [Formal analysis of film – workshop analysis – score notation analysis] is recalling the rules of “score notation analysis”, popularized by professor Bolesław Włodzimierz Lewicki in the 1960s, when he was the dean and lecturer at the Łódź history. Interestingly, the method was not well received by the students and critics. The historical perspective also appears in the curriculum of the time and has been utilized by Lewicki as a “reference system”. Thusly, it is the entirety of his concept and the theoretical background available at the time. Feridun Erol’s example score notation analysis of the movie The Last Day of Summer is an integral part of the text. Another reason – more important, since it is still valid – is the noticeable deficiency of workshop analyses and the function of means of expression in shaping a film. This state of affairs is probably the result of peculiar and de facto difficult knowledge on filmmaking, and even if theoreticians are familiar with this field, there are legitimate worries a reader unacquainted with it may be lost.

Stefan Czyżewski Spectacular photography This article deals with arbitrarily appointed photographic attributes resulting from its spectacularity. ‘Spectacularity’ is hereby considered as a way that shifts its meaning connected with theatrical effects which are nowadays somewhat colloquially understood as ‘uncanny’ or ‘attractive’. Each attribute of photography as defined by such consideration becomes photography’s differentia specifica designating a different from other media the way of functioning in the culture of iconosphere. The way in which this happens forms close relationship between photography and culture (broadly understood), and especially with science, information and entertainment. These associations are complementary (especially with linguistic forms) in forming cultural communication. The process is diachronic, strongly conditioned by both socio-political changes and technological development. The attributes of spectacularity include the documentary objectivity of photography, the practical absence of image quality in the decoding of iconic meanings, the complementary extension of the semantic field to the co-existence of the language and the existence of beyond-iconic potential contextual meanings.

Opis:
The text undertakes the subject of death in the perspective of cultural studies, at the same time preserving the chronology of the intellectual reflection on these issues. The main thesis is presenting changes in the approach to the category of death in the history of the Mediteranean culture. Practically, the category of death has been perceived in two aspects: culturally (religiously) and „scientifically”. What is more, in biblical times the „scientific” aspect was not present, whereas the religious one dominated. In the course of time and development of science the proportions between these two aspects become reversed. The changes are directed towards the secularization and the scientific bias of the image of the world, which in the civilisation of the West in the 20th century have reached the apparently extreme dimension. At the same time, these changes as a whole have not brought about the „taming” of death by man and the conclusion must be drawn that some sort of respect of its power will always accompany people.

Opis:
LITERATURE. FILM. (Draft affinity) The affinity of film and literature is analyzed in historical perspective, and more broadly, the methodological aspect of comparing and collating together ‘word and image’ ... Recalling the historical aspect, it is easy to find in the sources certain awkwardness of humanistic reflection on not only the relationship between the arts, but especially the division and classification of ‘disciplines of art’. Ancient thinkers tried to resolve this issue citing nine muses, who took care of the individual disciplines. Taxonomy is relevant only in its historical context, because understanding of art and science in those days was completely different from the present. Despite this fact, modern thinkers revised the system many times while different creating taxonomies and introducing other divisions. Cinema was considered as the Tenth Muse the early twentieth century, but that decision was only symbolic. It seems more appropriate to place the relationship of film and literature in the perspective of coexistence of words and images, whose affinity has been obvious in Mediterranean culture in last two thousand years. It manifests itself mainly through painting illustrations of literary topics. However, the temporary nature of perception of both film and literature, seems more appropriate an arena to compare film and literature. Separation of different material in these disciplines is possible. It entails the formation of the perspective of perception of temporary narrative structures, dramatic and semantic, as perception systems common to film and literature. The categories of the moving image and literary image are considered as helpful in detailed analysis. The text ignores the problem of film adaptation of literary works and typical inter-semiotic issues, because of its special affinity and marginal

Opis:
Exposure to carbon monoxide is a common hazard in firefighting practice throughout the year, regardless of the winter heating season. Therefore this analysis of the interventions of fire protection units in incidents related to carbon monoxide exposure of a non-fire origin. The objectives include two risk groups: people affected by the intervention and the health risks to fire officers themselves. The analysed material covers the years 2017-2022 and interventions of fire protection units in incidents related to carbon monoxide exposure of a non-fire origin (chemical hazard events). Data from the Decision Support System of the State Fire Service (DSSSFS), provided to the authors by the Operational Planning Office at the Headquarters of the State Fire Service, were used in the study. According to the records of the State Fire Service (SFS) in the years 2017-2022, there were 28,766 (Mean 4794; SD 413) chemical hazard events: carbon monoxide was the cause. There were only 5724 reports of symptoms with a known CO concentration and 1974 reports with clinical symptoms. Statistically significant differences were demonstrated in exposure time (p= 0.028) and average CO concentration in the analysed years (p<0.001). Noteworthy is the sudden reduction in the exposure time following the year 2020. The actual exposure of firefighters to carbonmonoxide is greater than in the above analysis, in addition, there are exposures from fire incidents. Procedures, measuring equipment, and personal protective equipment protect firefighters from absorbing harmful substances into the body, but the large number of incidents and the visible clinical symptoms in victims should prompt firefighters with many years of service to observe even the smallest worrying neurological changes in themselves.
