Opis:
Day support centres play an important preventive function and frequently they prevent children from sending to foster families. They provide children with assistance in spending their free time, overcoming problems at school, and dealing with behavioural disorders. On its own initiative, NIK has conducted an audit aimed at evaluating the effectiveness of the assistance that day child support centres provide to families that have problems with meeting their care and educational obligations. The audit, which covered the years 2013 – 1st half of 2016, focused on the accessibility and appropriateness of the care provided by day support centres, with regard to the local needs, monitoring of the situation of children from families threatened with a crisis, or having difficulties in providing care and education. The audit also examined the legality and effectiveness of the performance of day support centres.

Opis:
Almost 25 percent of persons have experienced at least one form of violence in their lifetime, and simultaneously 75 percent of them never seek assistance in any institution and do not believe that such assistance could be effective. The Supreme Audit Office, on its own initiative, conducted an audit whose main objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of the assistance measures provided to domestic violence victims. The audit covered the period between the year 2012 and the first half of 2015, and focused on the availability of specialist counselling, such as: medical, psychological, legal and related to family issues. The audit also examined the availability of safe shelter for victims. The regularity and effectiveness of plans developed for victims were also subject to the audit, as well as the measures taken against the perpetrators of domestic violence.

carcinogenic potential of the drugs
Opis:
Metronidazole belongs to the most commonly prescribed medications for bacterial and parasitic infections worldwide. It is also used in perioperative prevention prior to bowel, and head and neck surgeries. Despite the fact that the World Health Organization has placed it on its List of Essential Medicines, it is considered potentially carcinogenic. A great number of research studies have been conducted to clarify this issue, but results are inconclusive. None of the studies focused on the influence of metronidazole on oral cancer development. The aim of our study was to evaluate the impact of metronidazole on the viability of tongue cancer cells. The research was conducted on the tongue squamous cell carcinoma cell line (CAL-27). Metronidazole dissolved in growth medium was applied to the cell culture at concentrations: 1, 10, 50, 100μg/mL. Toxicity of the drug was evaluated by MTT assay and the [3H]-thymidine incorporation test. The MTT test revealed a significant increase in cell viability under the influence of metronidazole after 24h, at the highest concentration of the drug (100μg/mL), but had no impact on cell viability at other concentrations and after 48h and 72h. The results of the [3H]-thymidine incorporation test did not show significant results. Summarizing, metronidazole stimulates the viability of tongue squamous cell carcinoma cells according to its concentration and the time of incubation (results significant at the concentration 100μg/mL, after 24 hours of incubation).
