Physical phenomena and the nature of materials require both qualitative and quantitative research to be understood thoroughly. This process often necessitates the use of complicated and expensive equipments. Also in electrical-electronics discipline, especially the nature of semiconductor materials and the behavior of them have a special place. In engineering education, it is often more important for undergraduates to understand the behavior of material and the results of that at the basic level. For this purpose it is sufficient to analyze semiconductor materials with interactive software unlike physics scholars who apply mostly physically to analyze. Understanding the physical properties of applied materials and digitalizing the characteristics of these materials by coding in programming environment maintain its importance. In this context, designing of interactive programs to analyze physical phenomena in electrical-electronics engineering without the need for licensed software has been presented. For this purpose, some semiconductor phenomena involved with electronics engineering have been selected as a pilot and web based 3D Java graphic AWT applications have been designed.

The investigation of flotation as an alternative method to cyanide leaching of gold ores is significant in terms of economic and environmental aspects. In this study, a gold ore sample containing 4.79 ppm Au and 7.72 ppm Ag was used. Gold and silver were observed to be present as liberated electrum or associated with or within quartz, galena, and sphalerite. Initially, five-stage rougher flotation tests were conducted, and then three-stage scavenger circuits and four-stage cleaning flotation circuits were performed in order to obtain high-content gold concentrate and decrease losses of Au and Ag in tailings. As a result of tests, the flotation concentrate assayed as 437 ppm Au and 511 ppm Ag was obtained with recoveries of 76.3% and 58.5%, respectively. This study reveals that the concentrates ready for direct smelting without any additional process can be obtained with flotation. In order to determine kinetic characteristic of electrum in the sample, the tests were conducted using firstorder model, first-order model with rectangular distribution of rate constants, second-order model and second-order model with rectangular distribution of rate constant. The second-order model was considered as most reasonable for fitting the recoveries of gold as a function of flotation time during the flotation process.

The aim of this study is the investigation of the effect of ferroboron and ferrochromium with massive wire based hardfacing alloys. Mixture of Fe-Cr and Fe-B powders was added to massive wire during welding process. Hardface layers were obtained by three different powder mixture and three different powder/massive wire proportions. Hardfacing was applied to two AISI 1020 steel substrates by open arc welding. Hardness test, scanning electron microscope and X-ray diffraction analysis were made to the samples. Test results showed that increasing ferroboron content and increasing powder mixture amount enhanced the microhardness of the specimens.

Bismuth (Bi) doped zinc oxide (ZnO:Bi) thin films were prepared on glass substrates by sol-gel spin coating technique using homogeneous precursor solutions, and effects of Bi doping on the structural and optical properties of ZnO were investigated. The crystalline of ZnO films shifted from polycrystalline nature to amorphous nature with Bi doping. The plane stresses (σ) for hexagonal ZnO and ZnO:Bi crystals were calculated according to the biaxial strain model. The Urbach rule was studied as a function of non-thermal component to the disorder (defects in crystal structures) which is especially observed in the case of non-crystal semiconductors. The calculated Urbach energies and steepness parameters of undoped ZnO and ZnO:Bi films varied between 44.33 meV and 442.67 meV, and 58.3 × $10^{-2}$ and 5.8 × $10^{-2}$, respectively. The Urbach energies of the films increased with an increase in the Bi doping concentration and a great difference was observed for 7.0 mol.% doping. The band gap values of the films exhibited a fluctuated behavior as a result of doping effect.

Today global firms in distant places are trying to find ways of controlling larger networks of production and distribution. The competitive nature of the field has increased dramatically in the retail sector in recent years. Today retailers must have some competitive strategies like having more price competitiveness, higher service levels as well as utilising advances in computing capabilities and information technologies to improve their supply chain efficiency. In this paper, a methodology was developed to compare three successful textile retailers. First the Supply Chain Operation Reference (SCOR) model was used to determine the performance criteria and then a case study was conducted involving Turkish clothing manufacturers. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), which is a multi-criteria decision making technique to solve complex and unstructured problems with multiple attributes, was used to evaluate results. As a result of the study, three successful retailers were compared according to the performance attributes.
Obecnie światowe firmy działające na różnych kontynentach próbują znaleźć drogi kontroli większych sieci produkcji i dystrybucji. Konkurencyjny charakter branży zwiększył się gwałtownie w sektorze sprzedawców. Współcześnie sprzedawcy muszą mieć konkurencyjne strategie np., konkurencyjne ceny, wyższy poziom obsługi, komputeryzację, techniki informacyjne dla poprawy wydajności łańcuchów zaopatrzeń. Przedstawiono opracowaną metodologię dla porównania trzech posiadających sukcesy sprzedawców tekstylnych. W pierwszej fazie zastosowano model dla określenia kryteriów realizacji a następnie przeprowadzono analizę obejmującą trzech tureckich wytwórców odzieży.

Fluorine and tungsten co-doped tin (IV) oxide (WFTO) thin films have been prepared first time by a sol–gel spin coating method. The effect of F and W co-dopant ratio on optical, electrical and structural properties of SnO2 was investigated. It was found that the optical properties of the films were obviously affected by the co-dopant ratio. When the F:W co-dopant ratio increases from 0.25:0.25 to 0.75:0.50, the transmittance in the short wavelengths slightly increases and transmittance edge shifts towards shorter wavelength. With an increase in the co-dopant ratio, the reduction and red shifts in the optical transmittance edge are very obvious at all wavelengths. Transmittance values at 550 nm for the films have varied between 79.64% and 50.20%. The indirect and direct band gap values for WFTO-1, WFTO-2, WFTO-3 and WFTO-4 samples were calculated to be 3.73, 3.79, 3.48, 3.40 eV and 4.03, 4.04, 3.98, 3.97 eV, respectively. The crystal structure of the films has been investigated by X-ray diffraction patterns. It has been observed that WFTO-1 and WFTO-2 samples have (111) preferential orientation corresponding to SnO2 cubic phase. This orientation almost disappears and changes to tetragonal phase (110) orientation for WFTO-3 and WFTO-4. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first cubic structure observation for SnO2 grown by the sol–gel technique. The electrical properties were also changed with co-doping ratio. The best optical, electrical and structural properties were obtained for mole ratio 0.75:0.50 (F:W).

Titanium dioxide $(TiO_2)$ thin films were prepared by spin coating technique of sol precursor on Corning 7059 glass substrates. Spectral transmittances of as deposited and annealed samples were measured in the range of 250 to 1100 nm. Optical band gaps were calculated from the Tauc plots and was found to be about 3.78 eV for the annealed samples at 500°C. X-ray diffraction patterns were performed with as deposited and annealed samples. By annealing the samples at 500C in various annealing times, the structure has changed from amorphous to the anatase crystalline state. Variations of the band gap energy values of $TiO_2$ films with cobalt doping were also investigated. Cobalt doping decreased the band gap value of $TiO_2$ films down to 3.25 eV. X-ray diffraction patterns were also given for the doped samples.

In this study, the effect of milling speed on particle size and morphology of Cu25W composite powder produced by high-energy ball milling was investigated. For this aim, commercial elemental copper and tungsten powders were milled in a planetary-type ball mill for different milling durations. Ball-to-powder weight ratio was selected as 10:1. Three different milling speeds, namely 200, 300, and 400 rpm were used throughout the tests. In order to avoid agglomeration and to decrease the tendency of cold welding among powder particles, stearic acid in amount of 2 wt.% was used as a process control agent. The morphological and microstructural evolution of the milled powders was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. In addition, the variation of particle size and powder morphology as a function of milling duration was determined. As a result of this effort, the milling duration was found to have strong effect on the structural evolution of the powder, and the optimum particle size as a function of milling speed was determined.

In this study, Ag-based SnO₂-reinforced electrical contact materials were produced by powder metallurgy and mechanical alloying techniques. Elemental powder mixture containing 8 wt.% SnO₂ was milled in a high-energy planetary-type ball mill, to achieve homogeneously mixed composite powder, and subsequently pressed in a closed die to obtain green compacts with a cylindrical shape and then sintered under vacuum to obtain composites. Composites were then subjected to electrical wear tests under inductive loads to investigate the arc-erosion performance of electrical contacts. Surface deterioration and mass losses of electrical contacts were also evaluated, as a function of increasing switching number. Characterization of the starting and composite powders, green compacts, composites and arc-originated surface deterioration was carried out using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. It was found that powder particle size had decreased with the increasing milling time. Density and hardness values of the composites had increased, whereas porosity had decreased with the increasing sintering temperature. Optimum sintering temperature was determined as 900°C. The arc-affected zones became bigger with the increase of the number of switching operations. Furthermore, comparison between surface morphologies and mass losses of arc-eroded specimens had revealed that the stationary contacts exhibit higher rates of erosion than the movable contacts.

In this study, the effect of mechanical alloying parameters, namely the effect of process control agent, ball-to-powder weight ratio and milling duration, on the synthesis of Cu25W composite powder was investigated. Planetary-type ball milling equipment was used to conduct mechanical alloying experiments. Stearic acid was used as the process control agent in order to establish a balance between cold welding and fracturing. The optimum amount of stearic acid was determined as a function of particle size and milling time at constant speed. By using this optimum amount of process control agent, three different ball-to-powder weight ratio values were also employed, and the effect of ball-to-powder weight ratio on particle size and morphology of Cu25W composite powders was investigated. The microstructural evolution of the milled powders was characterized using scanning electron microscopy and laser diffraction analysis. The test results have shown that the morphology and particle size distribution of the milled powders change significantly depending upon the milling parameters. In addition, higher ball-to-powder weight ratio values tend to lower the milling duration for the same amount of particle size reduction. However, particle size reduction suffers beyond the maximal value of ball-to-powder weight ratio, especially in the later stages of mechanical alloying.

In this study, arc-erosion experiments using contactors were performed under inductive loads for up to 40000 switching operations to investigate the effect of different current loads on the arc-erosion performance of electrical contacts. Determination of the mass loss was performed after every 5000 operations. The arc-eroded surfaces were examined using scanning electron microscopy. The chemical composition near the arc was determined by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The results show that the contact surfaces are greatly affected by arc-erosion, resulting in mass loss due to material migration and/or evaporation. In addition, the arc-affected zones become bigger with the increase in the number of switching operations, especially at 20 A. However, electrical cleaning improves the contact performance by reducing the contact resistance due to breakdown of the non-conducting oxide films formed between 20000 and 25000 switching operations at 20 A. The stationary contacts experience major erosion, whereas the movable contacts suffered less contact erosion under each current load.

In this work, sol-gel method was used in order to synthesize ZnO nanoparticles. $Zn(CH_3COO)_2$·$2H_2O$ was used to obtain ZnO precursor solution. To investigate the effect of organic gelating agents on grain size, various organic gelating agents such as triethanolamine (TEA), glycerin (GLY), ethylene glycol (EG), citric acid (CA) and tartaric acid (TA) were used. X-ray diffraction analysis was used for phase identification and grain size calculation. ZnO powders were characterized by using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy.

The effect of the $Al_2O_3$ coating on the charge-discharge cycling performance of spinel powder ($LiMn_2O_4$) was investigated in the range of 3.5-4.5 V at 1C. The $Al_2O_3$ coating on the surface of the spinel powder was carried out using the solution method, followed by 500C for 6 h in air. Powder X-ray diffraction pattern of the $Al_2O_3$-coated spinel $LiMn_2O_4$ showed that the $Al_2O_3$ coating medium was not incorporated in the spinel bulk structure. Scanning electron microscopy results showed that the $Al_2O_3$ coating particles were homogeneously distributed on the surface of $LiMn_2O_4$ powder particles. The $Al_2O_3$-coated $LiMn_2O_4$ retained 92.3% of its original capacity after 30 cycles, showing much better cycle ability than the bare lithium manganese oxide. The improvement of electrochemical performance is attributed to suppression of $Mn^{2+}$ dissolution into electrolyte via $Al_2O_3$ layer.
