The article recounts the student years of Konstanty Puzyna (1948-1952) at the Faculty of Humanities of the Jagiellonian University. It also portrays a group of his friends, namely Jan Błoński, Ludwik Flaszen and Andrzej Kijowski, who attended Kazimierz Wyka’s seminar together with him. In later years, this group would be known as the Krakow School of Criticism. The article describes the fates of these four individuals and the socio-political background of their studies. It raises questions about the impact of the intensifying Stalinism on the structure of their studies, the associated problems, and the influence of significant events on personal experiences. Special attention is given to Konstanty Puzyna. The article addresses questions about why he chose these studies, how they unfolded, and also describes his professional work during this time, i.e. publishing reviews, working at the Ministry of Culture, and serving as the artistic manager at the Polish Theatre in Bielsko-Biała and Cieszyn. The article is primarily based on archival materials collected at the Archives of the Jagiellonian University, the Jagiellonian Library, and Konstanty Puzyna’s Private Archive.

Opis:
The interactive process involving play as a main component of children’s activities enables children to identify existing knowledge, skills and abilities, and to enhance and enrich them with new cognitive elements. Outdoor play is certainly an inspiration for a child’s holistic development. Children have the opportunity for motor, psychological and cognitive development in an environment that provides countless situations that are changing due to constant natural variations that occur under the infl uence of meteorological changes, changes in plant and animal life. Along with the above elements, it is necessary to add an element of risky play that is equally important in the process of childhood education and learning. Today’s overprotection of children by parents has taken away the segment of risky play, which is an important element of childhood. Parents’ attitude towards risky play also defi nes the attitude of kindergarten teachers who, under the pressure of parents, create an artifi cial environment in which a child is unable to explore this important segment of play, or take risks in their activities, decisions and procedures. That exact segment is the subject of this research, which aims to explore the opinions of the future kindergarten teachers about risky play and their attitude towards it. The research was conducted through a questionnaire in which students of their 3rd year of undergraduate studies and 1st year of graduate studies of early and pre-school education took part. According to the results of this research, we have observed the need for changes in the education of future kindergarten teachers. This can be done by expanding the content related to the Outdoor Curriculum and risky play.

Opis:
Contemporary educational reality seems to continuously require new forms of being a parent, a teacher, a tutor, and a pedagogue. Rapid changes of the paradigms of social life pose a real challenge for education. Educational accompanying inspired by the Ignatian pedagogy can provide an answer to this challenge. The article presents the idea of educational accompanying derived from Christian axiology, where human dignity is an unquestionable value. From this perspective, it seems important to follow students, to keep pace with their development, and, at the same time, to share experience with them and to indicate what is real, life-giving, and creative. It might be necessary to define a tutor, a teacher, and a parent from scratch, so they are able to show proper rules and regulations of life in the post-modern world, and, first of all, pass on the motifs of life and hope

The idea of students giving official grades to teachers is new in the centuries-old history of education. Today, the technical side of its implementation is usually discussed, while the purposefulness and usefulness are rarely in focus. The article provides a justification for the view that the student survey is a poor measuring instrument and it is used contrary to its intended use. First, it is unclear what exactly it measures, but it does so imprecisely as there are many known factors that are potentially sources of bias. Second, only to a small extent is the survey actually used to improve the quality of teaching. A separate argument was also given for the opinion that student evaluation of classes not only brings little benefit, but also causes some harm.

Democratic and governmental transformations require students to develop numerous civic skills that will allow them to fully participate in adult life and enjoy all civil rights. They constitute a very important link in the school education cycle, but above all, in civic education. The student government creates one of the most important forms of social activity available to students, which allows them to develop, among others, organizational skills. It also furthers the child’s development. Active participation in the student government is an indicator of students’ self-awareness and development; it directs their activities towards cooperation and readiness to carry out tasks for the benefit of the school community. However, despite numerous educational aspects, creating optimal conditions for the functioning of the student government is the most difficult task of a modern school (Sowisło, 1996, p. 7).

Loneliness is a common phenomenon. It is experienced by old people, abandoned by their close relatives, children, the youth, and by those who have succeeded and gained fame. There is a relationship between loneliness and educational accomplishments. Taken in its negative sense, it is understood as an individual, psychosocial experience of the subjects of school, resulting from the awareness of break, loss or threat to emotional contacts of the interpersonal or intrapersonal character. At the basis there is the process of realizing the basic functions of school and their respective requirements. From the positive point of view, I define school loneliness as an individual, psychosocial experience of the individual that results from the break of interpersonal contacts or their limited character in order to participate fully in the realization of the basic functions of school. The principal research problem is contained in the question: what is the image of school loneliness like? The analysis of empirical research points that 27.4% of the subjects experience loneliness. Both students with poor results and those who do very well experience it. The sense of loneliness at lessons concerns 41.5% of the subjects. They understand properly final loneliness and appreciate its role in their school life.

Opis:
The articles justifies the need for constant care for the axiological dimension of education. The habitus of the modern teacher was analyzed in the perspective of axiological dispositions. The author’s reconstructions of the respondents’ views concerning their preferences regarding observable and repetitive teachers’ behavior were categorized. These behaviors were indicators of the values which guided teachers in their work with students. An attempt was made to determine which axiological properties of teachers, expressed in the praxiological dimension, are particularly valued by today’s youth. Analysis of the frequency of indications of the preferred teachers’ behaviors helped to establish the hierarchy of these properties. The results of the diagnosis carried out on a sample of 903 respondents showed that teachers’ pedagogical tactfulness, subject knowledge and good organization of work are mostly appreciated and expected by young people. In addition, attempts were made to identify differences in the respondents’ preferences due to their interest profile, expressed in the choice of a specific field of academic studies. It has been established that it is the factor which differentiates students’ preferences in relation to the teacher’s axiological attributes. Significant relationships have been observed and the conclusions made valuable implications for pedeutology.

The paper explores some aspects of the minimal student education. What attracts one's attention are: the dyad encompassing the academic teacher and the minimal student; and the triad encompassing the academic teacher, the minimal student and the educational institution. The hypothesis orchestrating this study, preliminary as it is, contains the assumption that the minimal learner profile disturbs both relations, bringing about the violation of the educational process. As a result, the methodological verification of the teaching procedures, as well as the psycholinguistic awareness raising process, have to be introduced if the minimal student education is to be continued.

The paper deals with learning styles and their initial diagnostics in the process of the student’s learning. It is focused on a method of learning styles recognition with the support of modern information technologies. The paper analyses different methods of the learning styles diagnostics, incorporating this issue into the scientific field of artificial intelligence and presents an idea on how to diagnose a learning style by using an unconventional fuzzy logic linguistic expert system. The expert system was designed to diagnose learning styles of university students in adaptive computer aided learning systems. A significant benefit is continuous numerical evaluation of the student’s degree of affiliation to all learning categories (types of student) with a possibility of simple determination of dominant and subdominant types, the use of a linguistic rule-based decision-making model, which is completely transparent and open, and the use of a decision-making procedure corresponding to the process of human consideration. The paper is an example of an application of modern information technologies in education.

This paper attempts to take a critical look at the narrative interview in order to identify the methodological pitfalls and challenges posed by this widely-applied research tool. It analyses the research process in a project involving sixty-four 3rd year students of applied linguistics at a large university in western Poland in the summer term of the academic year 2018/2019. The project included three stages: (1) interviewing a person from another country studying in Poland about their intercultural experiences; (2) transcribing the interviews and (3) presenting the results of their analysis in the form of a written report. On completion of their assignments, the students were asked to share their reflections on all stages of their research in an anonymous survey study. The questionnaire data was juxtaposed with analysis of the student transcripts and reports in order to identify and compare the student and the teacher perspectives on methodological aspects of narrative research. The outcomes of the survey study show that the students, as inexperienced or even first-time researchers, mostly focused on their language proficiency and technical aspects of the interview, while the teacher/researcher pointed primarily to flaws in the formulation of the interview questions and lack of subsequent probing questions, which resulted in superficial responses or even at times deprived the interview of a narrative character. The study also documented the evolution of students as researchers and its results might be applicable for teachers offering courses in academic writing or BA/MA seminars.

In this article, the author explores a niche but important problem of functioning of the artistic schools during difficult times of social isolation and virtual learning. More specifically, qualitative experiences of students of artistic schools during COVID-19 pandemic were examined and reconstructed. The unusual panedmic praxis was described as percolating experiences of a sense of agency and school reality. Such a narrative was inspired by J.Bruner and H.Thierch and the concept of three dimensions: time, space and relations. Considering students as experts in their own experiences allowed the author to build a statistical model which helped to discover factors associated with the sense of agency. The author describes in depth positive factors contributing to the sense of agency. These factors can therefore be used to further improve the education system and the educational experience of students.

The student scientific team “Ecologist” was established in 2006 at the Belarusian state Agricultural Academy in an effort to bring together students from different disciplines who are interested in solving environmental problems. Research projects are the primary mode for accommodating student interest in environmental learning. Another way of linking the classroom with practical experience is through opportunities for students to participate in campus-wide and outreach environmental activities.

Opis:
In this text I present, from the perspective of an external observer, research which shows, how using the Maria Montessori method helps teachers to work with children individually. The research method, which is action research, makes it possible to observe how the researcher-teacher involves children in all activities and enhances their self-esteem. At the same time the teacher`s engagement, independence and creativity become active while using the Maria Montessori method. I also present difficulties, which could happen, when the Maria Montessori method is used in the traditional kindergarten.

Opis:
The article presents the manner of work of science teachers on the basis of students’ opinions. The research included 870 6th grade primary school students, whose teachers had different work experience and level of education. The authors used the diagnostic survey as the research method. Flander’s analysis category system was used for the analysis of classroom interactions. In order to establish the relationship between the pairs of quality variables, the chi-square test of independence was used. It has been found that the teaching style is consistent with an adopted teaching model. There are two main types of teaching models: a model based on cognitive psychology and behavioural psychology. The model is reflected in the teacher’s teaching style, which might be reactive or directive. In the students’ opinion science teachers, particularly those with the shortest work experience, most often transmit their knowledge to students during classes (directive style). Those with more seniority and experience encourage students to perform certain tasks more frequently (reactive style). Science teacher’s education does not influence the teaching style and the majorityof teachers prefer a syncretic style. Students of the teacherspreferring a directive style revealed lower interest in sciencethan those who were taught in reactive style. As a result of this disinterest, the studied students only occasionallyperformed activities in direct contact with nature.

Opis:
In the last decade, the emergence of diverse students in a streamed class based on the mathematical ability brought upon challenges for the teacher to find an approach which could accommodate all students. This study aims to investigate the connection of students’ ability with their learning preferences in mathematics by applying differentiated instruction using tiered assignments and parallel tasks. This qualitative approach was used for this study from a sample of year 7 mathematics students within Pengukuhan Kemahiran Asas programme (PeKA) (the Basic Skills Strengthening programme), which revolved upon low ability for students with very weak numeracy skills. The findings in general revealed that there is an improvement in their performance.

Opis:
Purpose: To search for training methods for specialists in industrial safety, environmental and occupational safety and health in conditions of insufficient (or absent) laboratory support and to study the relationship between the student learning approach and acquired competencies. Design/methodology/approach: To study modern advances in industrial safety, environmental and occupational safety and health and training methods for specialists a systematic literature review approach has been used. For publications from 2017, queries were asked through keywords and safety related topics. To relationship study between the student learning approach and acquired competencies a student survey on random sampling has been used. A total of 112 students of the 3rd and 4th year of study at the university were interviewed. Findings: The results of the survey showed that the students’ number who simultaneously successfully answered theoretical questions and completed practical tasks is 33.8% from the group with theoretical training and 75% from the group that was trained in the workplace. The relationship between the groups with a visit to the existing enterprise and acquired competencies was justified by the association coefficient and contingency coefficient that are 0.7 and 0.4 respectively. Research limitations/implications: A student’s survey was conducted at only one university. Questions were asked only according to the curriculum of the course “Labour Protection”. No survey for other training courses conducted. Practical implications: The research results are reasonable and can be applied at universities to improve the educational process of training specialists. Originality/value: It was proposed that students be trained using existing enterprises as a laboratory base and by the methods of statistics mathematical processing was substantiated the proposal feasibility.
