Opis:
Apostolic constitution of Pope Francis regarding women’s contemplative life Vultum Dei quaerere published on 29.06.2016, and executory instruction Cor orans published on 1.04.2018 by Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life implements series of changes for life of nuns of enclosure. It was necessary, because previous apostolic constitution Sponsa Christi regarding life of nuns, prepared by Pope Pius XII was published 66 zears ago on 21.1.1915. Long time period separating both constitutions causes, among other things, that changes implemented by new documents are far-reaching, and cause partial derogation of four canons Canon Law Codex of 1983 still in force, and complete abrogation of some previous, no-code judical norms regarding nuns. Newness (Novum) of the published documents, in the first place, is that all nun’s cloisters have an obligation of membership of the respective federation; description of the required conditions necessary for the cloister to receive real, and judiciary autonomy, and reasons of its loss; changes in institution of enclosure, and exlaustration of the nuns, as well as extention of initial nun’s formation, and implementation of additional, obligatory stages in it, that is aspirant’s, and postulate’s period. All above mentioned changes have been discussed in the article. Changes are proceded by recalling the definition of the canonical contemplation life, formulated bz Pope Pius XI in reminded above constitution Sponsa Christi, and mentioned by Pope Francis again in constitution Vultum Dei quaerere. This type of the article structure seemed to be necessary, in order to allow reader to make an evaluation of the changes in a life of nuns, and first of all to get an answer to a question: if the changes will more successfuly lead the nuns to interior contemplation? General historical, and statistical facts regarding the life of nuns were also included in the article.

In relations to a an increasingly frequent convocations of general chapters in religious institutes of consecrated life, authoress took up a problem: if it is proper to take an excessive advantage of that institution? We expect, that participants of the extraordinary chapters will find proper ways of the renewal of religious life, solution of difficulties, and recovery from stagnation, and even – institute refound. It seems, that the meaning of the extraordinary chapters is frequently overestimated, expectations are too high and they are treated as very efficient and immediate antidote for problems existing in religious life, as well as for long-lasting negligence, wrong decisions, or their lack, performed by competent authority of the institute. Main contraindication related to the excessive using of that form of performing authority in the institute is a hasty convening of such chapters, risk of issuing too large number of the judiciary norms, or even the whole chapter’s documents, which, when cumulated, are very rarely read by institute members, and only few are saved. On the other hand the pre-chapter atmosphere in the institute, and during the chapter, brings about unfavourable, excessive, and long-term concentration of the members of the institute on certain matters, stirs up doubts, insecurity, needless discussions and pressure. Arrival of the chapter members to the place of proceedings – quite often from a distant countries – is connected with additional costs and a necessity of disruption of an institute everyday activities.

Work, beside prayer, that is to say God’s service were the essence of the first Monks life, what was rightly described by Benedictines’ maxim: ora et labora. First representatives of the life, which was completely given to God in Catholic Church, strived to make their work a prayer at the same time, so they could keep constant relation with God.  Main purpose of work, being a form of imitation of hard-working Christ and Apostles, was also participation in His redemptive work, and obtaining means needed for simple living, in accordance with evangelical poverty.  Work had also ascetic aspect for Monks, because it gave possibility of overcoming their own weaknesses, more complete realization of requirements included in the Gospel, and at the same time more accurately becoming similar to Christ. Thanks to work the Religious could give help to the people in need. Basic rules regarding meaning, understanding, and performing work were given in  Apophthegm of Desert Fathers, and Monastic Rules, whereas the rest had to be personally found out by each Monk, together with fulfillment of their duty performed in silence, and concentration, as well as obtaining experience in art of connecting prayer with work.  At the same time they all were aware, that to be a real Monk meant “to work with their own hands”.

Main intention of the Author’s article is showing the essence and meaning of the religious constitution, and restore their proper position in modern religious life, as well as due respect and appreciation of their value by the religious. Therefore the starting point for her was referring to first norms of life dedicated to God in the Catholic Church, that is to monastic rules, and regard, or even cult, which was shown by Pachomian, Basilian, Augustinian, Benedictine monks, as well as St Franciscan Minor Brothers. Author’s research shows, that old rules as well as modern religious constitutions - which are their continuation - deserve the respect. They are strongly related to the Sacred Scriptures, for instance showing faithful way of following Christ, and also including spirituality of the religious institute founder, which results from charisma given by the Holy Ghost for the benefit of the institute members, and the whole Church. Membership of the specific institution requires keeping and developing thoughts, as well as the intentions of the founder, that is so called spiritual inheritance, which can be generally learnt due to the reading of  the constitutions left by him.
Głównym zamiarem autorki artykułu jest ukazanie istoty i znaczenia konstytucji zakonnych, a tym samym przywrócenie właściwego im miejsca we współczesnym życiu zakonnym oraz należnego szacunku i docenienia ich wartości przez zakonników. Dlatego punktem wyjścia było dla niej odwołanie się do pierwszych uregulowań życia poświęconego Bogu w Kościele katolickim, czyli do reguł monastycznych, oraz uznania, a nawet kultu,  jakim otaczali ich mnisi pachomiańscy, bazyliańscy, augustiańscy i benedyktyńscy, a także bracia mniejsi św. Franciszka z Asyżu. Z badań autorki wynika, że dawne reguły oraz współczesne konstytucje zakonne, które są ich kontynuacją, zasługują na uznanie. Są one mocno związane z Pismem Świętym,  m.in. ukazując wierny sposób naśladowania Chrystusa, a także zawierają duchowość założyciela instytutu zakonnego, która wynika z charyzmatu udzielonego mu przez Ducha Świętego dla dobra członków instytutu i całego Kościoła. Przynależność do konkretnego instytutu wymaga zachowania i rozwijania myśli oraz zamiarów założyciela,  czyli tzw. dziedzictwa duchowego, które można poznać głównie dzięki lekturze pozostawionych przez niego konstytucji.

The term consecrated life appeared quite recently. Though it is commonly used, and yet – as it seems – it is not understand to the full extend even by the very persons to whom it refers. That’s because not many of them read the John Paul’s II Canonical Law Code of 1983, where there is given a full definition of the consecrated life. The term is usually explained as the life particularly sacrificed (consecrated) to God. At the same time sacrament of baptism - called also by the term of baptismal consecration - already dedicates the life of each baptized to God, so it becomes a true consecrated life. Likewise  a priest by reception of the consecration sacrament simultaneously  sacrifices himself to God. What kind of  consecration then we are talking about in the case of so called consecrated persons? When it takes place, and what so much distinguishes the consecrated persons, that they create separate class in the Church, though it is not a hierarchic one? The answers for such questions are given in the article, which analyses the  Code’s definition of the consecrated life, and its forms existing in the Catholic Church.
Pojęcie życie konsekrowane pojawiło się stosunkowo niedawno. Chociaż jest ono powszechnie stosowane, to jednak – jak się wydaje – nie jest rozumiane  w sposób pełny  nawet przez same osoby, których dotyczy.  Niewiele z nich sięga bowiem do Kodeksu Prawa Kanonicznego Jana Pawła II z 1983 roku,  gdzie podano pełną definicję życia konsekrowanego. Termin ten najczęściej wyjaśnia się jako życie szczególnie poświęcone (konsekrowane) Bogu. Tymczasem już sakrament chrztu - określany także mianem konsekracji chrzcielnej -  poświęca Bogu życie każdego ochrzczonego, tak że staje się ono prawdziwym życiem konsekrowanym. Również przez przyjęcie sakramentu święceń kapłańskich kapłan konsekruje się całkowicie Bogu. O jaką więc konsekrację chodzi w przypadku tzw. osób konsekrowanych? Kiedy ona się dokonuje i co tak bardzo wyróżnia osoby konsekrowane, że tworzą one odrębny stan w Kościele, chociaż  nie hierarchiczny? Odpowiedzi na tak postawione pytania dostarcza artykuł analizujący  kodeksową definicję życia konsekrowanego i jego form istniejących w Kościele katolickim.
