Opis:
In this paper we have considered two-step radiative recombination channel over the existing spontaneous radiative recombination channel to explain the causes of experimentally obtained enhanced recombination rate at sub-zero temperature. The existing recombination rate due to spontaneous radiative recombination is 4 times smaller than the recent experimental data. In the case of Ne$\text{}^{10+}$ we obtain good agreement between theory and experiment when contribution from two-step radiative recombination channel is added to the spontaneous radiative recombination channel. Recombination rate for Ar$\text{}^{18+}$ is calculated. The radiation spectrum given out by two-step radiative recombination and spontaneous radiative recombination in the recombination rate processes are discrete spectrum and continuous spectrum, respectively. Experimental identification of these two channels through the spectral signatures is suggested.

A theoretical study of the three-body recombination of proton and electron in presence of a spectator electron with electronic beam at near-zero temperature is presented using field theory and invariant Lorentz gauge. Contributions from the Feynman diagrams of different orders give an insight into the physics of the phenomena. Recombination rate coefficient is obtained for low lying principal quantum number n=1 to 10. At a fixed ion beam temperature (300 K) recombination rate coefficient is found to increase in general with n, having a flat and a sharp peak at quantum states 3 and 5, respectively. In absence of any other theoretical and experimental results for low temperature formation of H-atom by three-body recombination at low lying quantum states, we have presented the theoretical results of Stevefelt and group for three-body recombination of deuteron with electron along with the present results. Three-body recombination of antihydrogen in antiproton-positron plasma is expected to yield similar result as that for three-body recombination of hydrogen formation in proton-electron plasma. The necessity for experimental investigation of low temperature three-body recombination at low quantum states is stressed.

The present analysis discusses the solute transport process in a steady 2D (axial and radial) laminar flow of blood through a permeable, finite length capillary. Blood is treated as a homogeneous Newtonian fluid and the solute is absorbed at the capillary wall with a linear irreversible reaction rate. The velocity profile is obtained by a regular perturbation technique, whereas the transport coefficients depicted by the Gill generalized dispersion model are solved numerically. A number of different scenarios are considered, namely transport with no-reaction, weak absorption, strong absorption, low filtration or high filtration, etc. In the initial stages, the temporal behaviour of the dispersion coefficient is identical to those cases when there is no radial velocity. For the combined effect of radial and axial velocities, however, the dispersion coefficient is lower for a high absorption rate than for a weak absorption rate. Diffusion is accelerated with higher values of filtration coefficient. Owing to the opposite effects of radial diffusion and radial velocity, the solute particles require more time to reach the steady state. The analysis finds applications in, for example, reactive nutrient and pharmacological transport in capillary hemodynamics.

The article is an attempt of verification of the possibility and of its degree of the analysis of the linguistic tools that determine the text cohesion in political works of a medieval French writer Christine de Pizan (XV c). The cohesion relations depend on various linguistic as well as extralinguistic factors and diaphoric metaphors are one of ways to provide the textual cohesion in an economical manner. The concept of the textual economy is the outcome of linguistic and extralinguistic rules. In the world of the text based on a subjective perception, thematic progression is not always logical from the point of view of information orientation even more so because the compilation structure of the political work of Christine de Pizan opens the opportunities for emergence of unexpected cohesion relations.

Opis:
The practice of eating insects is known as entomophagy. Many animals, such as spiders, lizards and birds, are entomophagous, as are many insects. People throughout the world have been eating insects as a regular part of their diets for millennia. As people in rural areas suffer from under nutrition, especially protein-energy malnutrition (PEM) in Africa, Latin America and Asia, alternative nutritional food sources are needed. From ants to beetle larvae – eaten by tribes in Africa and Australia as part of their subsistence diets – to the popular, crispy-fried locusts and beetles enjoyed in Thailand, it is estimated that insect-eating is practised regularly by at least 2 billion people worldwide. More than 1900 insect species have been documented in literature as edible, most of them in tropical countries. The most commonly eaten insect groups are beetles, caterpillars, bees, wasps, ants, grasshoppers, locusts, crickets, cicadas, leaf and plant hoppers, scale insects and true bugs, termites, dragonflies and flies. The purpose of the present review is to determine the status of present research in the context of the potentiality of insects as alternative food source to cope up with the emerging problem of global food crisis.

Introduction. The occurrence of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) has emerged as a global pandemic with huge death tolls. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may progress from minimal infection to serious respiratory failure mandating treatment for a continuum of developed disease condition. Aim. The purpose of this review is to summarize the findings related to epidemiology, clinical manifestations, modes of transmission, diagnosis and the treatment modalities (both experimental and repurposed) for COVID-19. Material and methods. Literature were searched using various search engines like PubMed, SCOPUS, EMBASE, J-Gate, Google Scholar to look for review articles, randomized controlled trial results, prospective studies and, retrospective studies done on COVID-19 for the purpose of this comprehensive review. Analysis of the literature. The transmission seems to be occurring through droplet, fomite and aerosols (rarely). Currently there is no specific/targeted vaccine available. Priority is highly placed to identify possible treatment approaches to circumvention this disease. Conclusion. Till we find a vaccine, we have to strategize to optimally use the existing evidence of the indirect effects of these various available drugs for therapy and maintain a strict protocol for prevention and we must use triage system to admit only those critically ill or having severe disease.

Opis:
Research background: One of the principal contributions of Maynard Keynes?s General Theory was identification of the phenomenon of involuntary unemployment, due (on account of adverse expectations and confidence on the part of potential buyers) to a want of demand for the quantity of output which a fully-employed labour force was capable of producing.  Such unemployment, he insisted ? contrary to conventional opinion ? was not due to workers pricing themselves out of work by demanding wages higher than employers could afford.  Far from unemployed workers being themselves responsible for their plight, they were, in reality, victims of circumstances beyond their control. Keynes?s understanding was, for many years, widely accepted by academics, policy-makers and the general public. In recent times, however, mainstream macroeconomic theory has shown a regrettable tendency to return to old modes of thinking. Blame for unemployment is again put on the workforce, whose alleged misunderstanding or slow response to change are said to imply seeking employment on unrealistic terms. A more extreme view is that worklessness may reflect a deliberate choice of leisure. To anyone sceptical of the validity of such analyses there is a clear need to recover the Keynesian understanding of the possibility not just of frictional or voluntary, but also of involuntary unemployment.  Purpose of the article:  Ezra Davar, recognising that it is important not to lose sight of the idea of involuntary unemployment, has recently attempted in this Journal to explain Keynes?s concept. Unfortunately, however, he fails to recognise that Keynes accounted for involuntary unemployment as resulting from deficiency of aggregate demand for output, not as  the consequence of any supply-side factor. In attributing involuntary unemployment to a peculiarity in the labour supply function Davar quite misses Keynes?s point, and in fact identifies as involuntary unemployment a situation of what Keynes would have described as ?voluntary? employment. The objective of the present note is to clear up this misunderstanding.

Opis:
This paper aims to study the behaviour of a circular footing resting on two granular layers, i.e., a dense sand layer resting on loose sand strata, subjected to a vertical and an inclined loading (α=0°, 10°, 20°, 30°) using the finite element (FE) software PLAXIS-3D. The Mohr-Coulomb criterion is employed for the analysis of the model, in which two parameters are considered to vary significantly; (1) thickness of the top layer (dense layer) and (2) friction angle (ф) of both the layers. In the circular footing, the bearing capacity on the layered soil profile is assessed using the mechanism of punching shear failure following the desired area approach. The punching shear failure mechanism formed in dense sand has a parabolic shape at the ultimate load when the maximum mobilization of shear force through the failure surface is taken into account, otherwise, the punching failure is the actual failure while punching in the lower layer continues to a greater extent, depending on the interface load. Bearing pressure decreases as the inclination increases with respect to the vertical, along with bearing pressure increasing as the thickness of the dense sand layer increases. The software results compare well with data available from the literature.

Agility is a term that is widely used. However, a common understanding of what agility means and what it consists of is missing. Many frameworks have been developed for how to approach agility, but they are very heterogeneous regarding content and structure. This paper approaches the issue by conducting a systematic comparison of 28 available agility frameworks out of the domains of agile manufacturing, agile software development, agile organization, and agile workforce. Altogether, 33 concepts related to agility were identified. The results of the comparison show that, even within the specifically examined domains, a lack of consensus is obvious. In addition, the utilized concepts are very ambiguous and overlapping. As such, the interdependencies between the identified concepts were analyzed in detail. This revealed five recurring “clusters”, each of which combines several concepts with similar content, but despite the amount of available frameworks, none of them reflects these clusters directly. Hence, the study shows that factors beyond the construct of agility are not yet fully uncovered.

Developments in bioengineering natural products from insects with potential use in modern medicines as well as in utilisation of insects as models for studying essential mammalian processes such as immune responses to pathogens are discussed in this review. The significant recent advances in developing insect derived natural products as potential new medicinal drugs and the use of medicinal plants for the treatment of human diseases has long been practised since the beginning of human civilization. To date, insects have been relatively neglected as sources of modern drugs although they have provided valuable natural products, including honey and silk, for at least 4-7000 years. The use of insect derived products as an alternative medicinal source is an exciting and rapidly expanding new field since insects are hugely variable and have a high biodiversity index. Insects products, such as silk and honey, have already been utilised commercially for thousands of years and extracts of insects used to produce for use in folk medicine around the world, nowadays several other insect products such as venoms which insects use for prey capture and defences, are also used to produce new medicinal drugs which are capable of fighting against a number of diseases like arthritis, inflammation, several cancers, neurological diseases and AIDS too. In the present decade the increasing price of biochemical medicines for the treatment of certain deadly diseases like cancer, AIDS etc is creating a huge economical burden to the common people in the developing countries like India. The search for alternative cost effective and easily available medicines for combating the upcoming diseases is an utmost need in the present decade. The emergence of this kind of alternative medicinal sources like that from the adult insects as well as from their different life history stages or their secretions which are available in plenty in the nature will open up new vistas in the recent researches based on development of medicinal drugs for human diseases.

This article analyses the influence of Sir Walter Scott’s historical fiction (Rob Roy) on the development of the historical novel in Russia in the first half of the 19th century, based on the example of Pushkin’s The Captain’s Daughter. The author argues that both Scott and Pushkin had a similar approach to their national and local history and collected historical material in the same way (through archival research and by contacting local people who had witnessed the events of the Jacobite Rebellion, 1715, and the Pugachev Rebellion, 1773–1775). A close analysis of both texts presents examples of a similar poetics of the narration, dialectal use of language and dialogue, and the use of local colour and folk elements, such as folk songs or old sayings, which serve as mottos for particular chapters in the novels.

Opis:
Euarthropods have a tough exoskeleton that provides crucial protection from predation and parasitism. However, this is restrictive to growth and must be periodically moulted. The moulting sequence is well-known from extant arthropods, consisting of: (i) the long inter-moult stage, in which no changes occur to the hardened exoskeleton; (ii) the pre-moult stage where the old exoskeleton is detached and the new one secreted; (iii) exuviation, when the old exoskeleton is moulted; and (iv) the post-moult stage during which the new exoskeleton starts as soft, thin, and partially compressed and gradually hardens to the robust exoskeleton of the inter-moult stage. Trilobite fossils typically consist of inter-moult carcasses or moulted exuviae, but specimens preserving the post-moult stage are rare. Here we describe nine specimens assigned to Symphysurus ebbestadi representing the first group of contemporaneous fossils collected that preserve all key stages of the moulting process in one taxon, including the post-moult stage. They were collected from a single lens in the Tremadocian part of the Fezouata Shale Formation, Morocco. Based on cephalic displacement and comparison to other trilobite moults, one specimen appears to represent a moulted exoskeleton. Four specimens are typical inter-moult carcasses. Four others are wrinkled and flattened, with thin exoskeletons compared to inter-moult specimens, and are considered post-moult individuals. These S. ebbestadi specimens illuminate the preservation and morphology of the post-moulting stage, characterised by strong anterior-posterior exoskeleton wrinkling, as well as overall body flattening and reduced visibility of thoracic articulations. Being found in the same lens, these specimens likely represent the first preserved in-the-act mass moulting event. The displayed sequence of moulting suggests the moulting process in trilobites was comparable to modern arthropods, and conserved within euarthropod evolutionary history.

Distant neighbour relaxation is calculated by invoking a continuum approximation. The potential parameters for the unlike interactions are calculated using simple interpolation formulae. Using the above relaxation, we calculate volume changes in the above alloys. It is observed that the simple model predicts values which are in reasonably good agreement with the experimental values in all cases. The calculated values are also compared with those obtained from the Vegard law. For Au-Ag alloy, our model reproduces both the correct sign and the magnitude of the volume change, whereas the Vegard law cannot even give the sign of the volume change. This shows the inherent strength of the present model.

This paper presents a mathematical model of a power controller for a high-frequency induction heating system based on a modified half-bridge series resonant inverter. The output real power is precise over the heating coil, and this real power is processed as a feedback signal that contends a closed-loop topology with a proportional-integral-derivative controller. This technique enables both control of the closed-loop power and determination of the stability of the high-frequency inverter. Unlike the topologies of existing power controllers, the proposed topology enables direct control of the real power of the high-frequency inverter.

A highly spinose fragment of a possibly raptorial appendage from the Arenig (Early Ordovician) of the Upper Fezouata Formation north of Zagora, southeastern Morocco is described as the arthropod Pseudoangustidontus duplospineus gen. et sp. nov. The single fragmentary specimen displays a unique morphology, carrying at least 39 pairs of spines (i.e., 78 spines) of very regularly alternating lengths. Pseudoangustidontus gen. nov. shows some similarities to a number of spinose arthropod appendages and appendage parts, most notably to the spine−bearing podomeres of the third prosomal appendage of megalograptid eurypterids and the problematic and incompletely known genus Angustidontus. However, megalograptids and Angustidontus both have a lower spine count, while the latter also carries only a single row of spines. Because no known arthropod displays a morphology closely comparable to that of Pseudoangustidontus gen. nov., the affinities of the new fossil within Arthropoda remain uncertain.

Effect of pesticides in the crop fields is now well known. Tea is no exception to this. Idea behind the present study is to appreciate the biological potential of spiders against tea pests. The study area included 6 tea estates viz. Badamtam T.E., Ging T.E., Salim Hill T.E. (organic), Castleton T.E., Namring T.E., and Thurbo T.E. (conventional). Altogether 85 species under 52 genera distributed over 18 families could be recorded. These can broadly be categorized into 7 trophic groups. The decreasing order of the groups are Orb weavers (48.24%) > Ambushers (22.35%) > Ground dwellers (11.76%) ≥ Stalkers (11.76%) > Foliage hunters (9.41%) > Sheet web weavers (2.35%) > Space web builders (1.18%). Out of the total species encountered 4 species are new from the country, 2 from the state and 36 species from the study area. Based on the species richness, the decreasing order of the tea estates are BTE (61.18%) ˃ NTE (54.12%) ˃ GTE (51.76%) ˃ STE (42.35%) ˃ CTE (28.24%) ˃ TTE (25.88%). This leads to infer ‘organic tea system’ exhibits higher spider heterogeneity. Araneids and salticids are the dominant groups. Other than the Oriental representatives, Australian and Palaearctic are the next major groups. Nearly 32.94% of the species are found to be endemic.

In the most general case, the calculation of the static local field factor G(q) for the unpolarised electron gas requires the knowledge of exchange-correlation energy functionals for both the parallel and antiparallel relative spin orientations of the electron gas system. Accurate density interpolation formulae using the quantum Monte Carlo data of Ceperley-Alder for the correlation energy of electron gas in both the "para" and "ferro" states, respectively, in the given density range are used for the calculation of G( q). Fulfilment of relevant consistency criteria is ensured and the local field factor so obtained renders significant improvement of ab initio pseudopotential calculation of effective interaction of Al. The Levin like interpolant of the correlation energy Ceperley-Alder data has been further used to study the ground state properties of the electron gas. It is also noted that a better understanding of the interacting electron gas properties requires a more accurate spin interpolation formula for the correlation energy than the existing ones.

Enzymes play a significant role in controlling the characteristics of various chemical and biochemical reactions. They act as catalysts that increase the rate of reaction without undergoing any change in quantity. Enzymatic reactions occur through the active sites, which combine with the substrates to form intermediate complexes, subsequently leading to products. An enzyme having two active sites can show cooperative phenomena. Against this background, an enzyme-kinetic mathematical model is formulated using fractional order derivatives. Optimal control mechanism has been incorporated into the fractional-order model system to maximize the product output. Euler-Lagrange optimality conditions are derived for the FOCP (fractional order control problem) using maximum principle. Numerical iterative schemes have been developed to solve the fractional order optimal control problem through Matlab.

Opis:
The sharing of species of ectomycorrhizal fungi (EMF) among different co-occurring host plant species could allow the formation of common mycorrhizal networks, which can alter plant–plant interactions and succession. Such sharing of EMF among woody species is thought to be common in many forests, but very few herbaceous plants form EMF, so they are assumed to be excluded from EMF networks in forests. We studied the EMF on roots of a common coniferous tree, Pinus sylvestris, and a co-occurring rare herbaceous perennial plant, Pulsatilla patens (Ranunculaceae), in northeastern Poland. We examined roots from co-occuring P. sylvestris and P. patens, visually classified EMF into morphotypes, studied tissue sections of mycorrhizal structures using compound microscopy, and used DNA sequencing to identify the fungi. On both host plant species, we observed EMF colonization, with colonized root tips exhibiting a swollen appearance, as well as a variety of colors and textures of fungal mycelium covering and emanating from those swollen tips. Sectioning and microscopic examination of an EMF morphotype common on P. patens confirmed the presence of a mantle and Hartig net, indicating the likely presence of functional ectomycorrhizal structures. The two most frequent EMF were Cenococcum geophilum and Piloderma olivaceum, and the latter was found to associate with both host plant species. Several EMF found here only on P. patens, including C. geophilum and two Russula species, are known from previous studies to also associate with P. sylvestris and other tree species. The observation of shared EMF between a coniferous tree and an understory herb indicates the potential for common mycorrhizal networks to alter interactions between these two species and may also indicate a unique way in which the distribution and abundance of a rare herbaceous plant may be influenced by shared mutualisms with a common co-occurring woody plant.

Psoriasis vulgaris is a common, worldwide autoimmune skin disorder characterized by T-cells mediated hyperproliferation of keratinocytes. The feature of T-cells arbitrated psoriatic lesions is the epidermal infiltration of oligoclonal CD8+ T-cells and also of CD4+ T-cells in the dermis. Psoriatic scratches are identified by red and enlarged lesions along with silver whitish scales. In this article, we propose a mathematical model for psoriasis, involving a set of differential equations, concerning T-cells, dendritic cells and epidermal keratinocytes. We introduce T-cell proliferation in the system, where T-cells are generated through expansion of accessible CD4+ T-cells from precursors. We are interested in observing how the cell biological system develops through T-cell proliferation in presence of control with respect to T-cells and keratinocytes. We study the model in both implicit and explicit ways and measure the effect of drug on the system through impulsive drug therapy.

Opis:
An analysis is presented to investigate the unsteady magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) mixed convection boundary-layer flow of a micropolar fluid over a vertical wedge in the presence of thermal radiation and heat generation or absorption. The free-stream velocity and surface temperature are assumed to be oscillating in magnitude but not in the direction of the oncoming flow velocity. The governing equations have been solved by two distinct methods, namely, the finite difference method for the entire frequency range, and the series solution for low frequency range and the asymptotic series expansion method for the high frequency range. Numerical solutions provide a good agreement with the series solutions. The amplitudes of skin friction and couple stress coefficients are found to be strongly dependent on the Richardson number and the vortex viscosity parameter. The Prandtl number, the conduction-radiation parameter, the surface temperature parameter and the pressure gradient parameter significantly affect the amplitudes of skin friction, couple stress and surface heat transfer rates. However, the amplitudes of skin friction coefficient are considerably affected by the magnetic field parameter, whereas the amplitudes of heat transfer rate are appreciably changed with the heat generation or absorption parameter. In addition, results are presented for the transient skin friction, couple stress and heat transfer rate with the variations of the Richardson number, the vortex viscosity parameter, the pressure gradient parameter and the magnetic field parameter.

Since cancer is one of the leading causes death worldwide and there is an urgent need to find better treatment. In recent years remarkable progress has been made towards the understanding of proposed hallmarks of cancer development and treatment. Anticancer drug developments from natural resources are ventured throughout the world. Venoms of several animal species including snake, scorpion, frog, spider etc. and their active components in the form of peptides, enzymes etc. have shown promising therapeutic potential against cancer. In the present review, the anticancer potential of venoms as well as their biochemical derivatives from some vertebrates like snake or frog or some venomous arthropods like scorpion, honey bee, wasps, beetles, caterpillars, ants, centipedes and spiders has been discussed. Some of these molecules are in the clinical trials and may find their way towards anticancer drug development in the near future. The recognition that cancer is fundamentally a genetic disease has opened enormous opportunities for preventing and treating the disease and most of the molecular biological based treatment are cost effective. The search for alternative economical and natural sources for cancer medicines is of utmost need for the future in combating this dreadful disease that is spreading at fast rate in the present era.

A Green function method is developed for estimation of lattice parameter r(χ) of an AX-BX solid solution over entire composition range (χ=0 to 1). The r(χ) obtained in the present method is different from the value r$\text{}_{V}$(χ) suggested by Vegard's law. We estimated the deviation from Vegard's law, r(χ)-r$\text{}_{V}$(χ), over entire composition range for isovalent substitutional defect in alkali halide crystals. When compared to X-ray diffraction measurements, we find that the deviation is in correct direction, variation of r(χ) with χ is consistent with experiment and the overall agreement is fairly good considering the accuracy of the experiment.

The main function of a filtering antenna is to reject out-of-band signals, thus reducing the interference from adjacent channels. The aim of the present work is to design a 2.6 GHz microstrip filtering antenna for 4G and 5G global mobile services. The filtering antenna is designed using a hairpin bandpass filter integrated with an elliptical microstrip aerial. Good impedance matching is obtained by using appropriate dimensions of the hairpin bandpass filter. The 10 dB return loss bandwidth of the filtering antenna is approx. 5.7%, with the maximum gain for the elliptical filtering antenna of approx. 2.2 dB. Good agreements between the measured and simulated results are obtained for the proposed filtering antenna and the bandwidth covers almost the entire 2.6 GHz band.

The flat-top sector beam pattern is relied upon In sectored cellular networks, in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems and ensures a nearly constant gain in the desired cellular sector. This paper presents a comparison of such optimization techniques as real-coded genetic algorithm (RGA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO), used in cellular networks in order to achieve optimum flat-top sector patterns. The individual parameters of flat-top sector beams, such as cellular coverage, ripples in the flat-top beam, spillover of radiation to the adjacent sectors and side lobe level (SLL) are investigated through optimization performed for 40◦ and 60◦ sectors. These parameters are used to compare the performance of the optimized RGA and PSO algorithms. Overall, PSO outperforms the RGA algorithm.

Vertical jump test (VJT) is one of the important determinants of physical fitness. VJT score in school going children of West Bengal, India has been reported. However, pertinent data in young sedentary Indian males and females are unavailable. Moreover, the relationship of VJT with anthropometric parameters and different components of body composition has not yet been explored in Indian context. Debatable findings have been reported regarding the impact of body composition on VJT score. The present study was aimed to evaluate the VJT score in young sedentary Indian university students and its relationship with anthropometric parameters and different components of body composition with special reference to gender variation. Healthy sedentary university students (males n=40 and females n=40) with similar socio-economic background and age group of 21–25 years were randomly sampled for the study from the post-graduate section of the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India. VJT was evaluated by Sargent Jump Test, and body composition was determined by skinfold measurements. Body height, body mass, %Fat, Total Fat (TF), LBM and VJT score depicted significant (p<0.001) difference between male and female groups. The VJT scores obtained in the male and female groups were in the range of below average and poor, respectively. Physical parameters did not influence the VJT score in both genders. In the present study the VJT score exhibited significant (p<0.001) negative correlation with %fat, individual skinfold, sum of skinfolds, and TF. Hence, body fat content posed as a hindrance to achieve higher jumping height, especially in females, where the lean mass helped to achieve greater VJT score in males.

Electromagnetic excitation, inside small volumes, results in perturbations which play an important role in the validation of theoretical formulations. Efforts to catch a glimpse of the action inside of the small space, can aid better thin film designs. In the non-linear anisotropic regime the results of such interactions provide important insights into the bulk level behavior of matter. Using this approach, a zinc oxide (ZnO) based photonic crystal is designed with spherical air voids. A Gaussian continuous wave excitation of the refractive index contrast (ZnO=1.9 and Air =1) photon waveguide generated thus, is characterized for the redistribution of electromagnetic field. When, centered at a specific wavelength (1.9 μ m), the graph of the frequencies that can exist inside the crystal, is plotted against the limited k-space vector. The dispersion diagram that emerges shows a band of frequency states that cannot exist inside such a design. Physically this constitutes a k-space which is devoid of any detectable disturbances. Crystallographically, the reduced Brilluoin zone can be used to make a thin layer of ZnO that can act as a frequency stop layer, in a real multilayered photoelectric device.

Opis:
This study was conducted to determine the phy- sical and biochemical properties of guava, sapota, and papaya. The physical properties studied were: dimensions, shell ratio, surface area, bulk and true density, porosity, sphericity, packing coeffi- cient, aspect ratio, and roundness index. The specific heat at various mass fractions, biochemical properties like pH, titratable acidity, total soluble solids, and colour analysis were studied for fruit pulps. The viscosity of fruits was studied at various mass fractions. The high sphericity of guava and sapota indicated that those fruits had high rolling capability, which is an important factor for designing hoppers. Bioch emical analysis showed that sapota was the sweetest fruit amongst the three studied.

Opis:
In the rotor system, depending upon the ratio of rotating (internal) damping and stationary (external) damping, above the critical speed may develop instability regions. The crack adds to the rotating damping due to the rubbing action between two faces of a breathing crack. Therefore, there is a need to estimate the rotating damping and other system parameters based on experimental investigation. This paper deals with a physical model based an experimental identification of the rotating and stationary damping, unbalance, and crack additive stiffness in a cracked rotor system. The model of the breathing crack is considered as of a switching force function, which gives an excitation in multiple harmonics and leads to rotor whirls in the forward and backward directions. According to the rotor system model considered, equations of motion have been derived, and it is converted into the frequency domain for developing the estimation equation. To validate the methodology in an experimental setup, the measured time domain responses are converted into frequency domain and are utilized in the developed identification algorithm to estimate the rotor parameters. The identified parameters through the experimental data are used in the analytical rotor model to generate responses and to compare them with experimental responses.

Opis:
PCFs (Photonic Crystal Fibers) with ‘T’ – shaped core have been proposed in this paper. ‘T’ –shaped core PCF structures have been analyzed using two different background materials: silica and lead silicate. A total of 360° rotation at an interval of 90° has been introduced in the design of PCF structures. PCF structures A, B, C and D with rotation of 0°, 90°, 180° and 270° have silica as wafer. Similarly PCF structures E, F, G and H with similar rotation have lead silicate as background material. Numerical investigations shows structures ‘D’, ‘F’, ‘G’ and ‘H’ to have anomalous dispersion. PCF structures ‘F’, ‘G’, and ‘H’ have reported birefringence of the order of 10⁻². Besides, other PCF structures report birefringence of the order of 10⁻³. Ultra low confinement loss has been observed in all the investigated PCF structures. Moreover, splice loss observed by the structure is very low. Large mode area has been shown by all the designed PCF structures.

Opis:
Metamimesis, etymologically, is a combination of the Greek prefi x “meta” and mimeisthai, which was in use prior to the emergence of the Platonic tradition (Koller 1954). In the following work I argue that the methodological and technical aspect of classical category, mimesis, has been changing during the development of art and human thinking throughout the cultural history and philosophy.2 This work discusses hypotheses concerning functional and interdisciplinary, and potentiality of meaning of the category of metamimesis, especially: contemplative meaning (as the classical-philosophical) and – the original – performative meaning (according to A. Artaud: as a non-discursive and non-mendacious reality). The main part of the paper applies the category of metamimesis to interpret selected artistic practices, in particular the artistic performance of Iron Ship and Xavier le Roy’s Low pieces. Thus, it discloses the vast potentiality of the act of performance as a process involving contemplative and performative dimensions of human being – all participants of this process. The discussion concerns also the question about the limits of human thinking and ultimately the possible existence of a transcendental awareness. The article is an introduction to the study of potentiality of the category “metamimesis”.

Opis:
The unsteady laminar boundary layer characteristics of mixed convection flow past a vertical wedge have been investigated numerically. The free-stream velocity and surface temperature are assumed to be oscillating in the magnitude but not in the direction of the oncoming flow velocity. The governing equations have been solved by two distinct methods, namely, the straightforward finite difference method for the entire frequency range, and the extended series solution for low frequency range and the asymptotic series expansion method for high frequency range. The results demonstrate the effects of the Richardson number, Ri, introduced to quantify the influence of mixed convection and the Prandtl number, Pr, on the amplitudes and phase angles of the skin friction and heat transfer. In addition, the effects of these parameters are examined in terms of the transient skin friction and heat transfer.

Opis:
The genre of travel writing is not only informed by an interdisciplinary aesthetic but also involves the description of peoples and the translation/re-presentation/re-interpretation of cultures. This article provides important clues as to how ethnography can be made to function as a legitimate mode of cultural and literary criticism. In doing so, this article seeks to establish that just as the ethnographer’s systematic study of the Other entails the possibility of gaining knowledge about the self, the travel writer’s knowledge of the Other, too, can often lead to a veritable gain in consciousness. Representation of the past or of history so to speak, as well as of the present which springs from that history, form a major preoccupation in Naipaul’s travel writing. To construct the present which, as a temporal category, is fairly problematic insofar as it is ephemeral and ever-fleeting and cannot be described without referring to what was or has been, one must begin with what one believes to be an understanding of the past – of history, per se. This study demonstrates how intensely emotional encounters with pastness inform the ways in which history is developed and narrativized within the discursive field of travel writing.
