Opis:
We report electro-optical behavior of a dye doped nematic liquid crystal. The dye doped cells have shown some improvement in some parameters important for the display devices such as threshold voltage $(V_{th})$, splay elastic constant, rotational viscosity and response time. The suppression of screening effect improves the threshold voltage for the doped sample.

The ultrasonic attenuation is evaluated at 300 K along [100], [110], and [111] directions for the characterization of bcc metal Ta. The size of the metal is considered in nanorange. Ultrasonic velocity, Grüneisen parameter and acoustic coupling constant that depend on second and third order elastic constants are calculated for determination of ultrasonic attenuation coefficient. Second and third order elastic constants of the bcc metal Ta at nanoscale at 300 K are also calculated starting with only two basic parameters. For the information about defects at nanoscale, the dislocation drag coefficients are calculated for the metal at different size along [100] orientation. The ultrasonic attenuation increases with the size of material as the size variation of the thermal conductivity and the thermal relaxation time. There is significant increase in the attenuation up to 150 nm.

Opis:
The optically-compensated-bend mode pi-cell displays exhibit fast-response time and wide-viewing angle characteristics. However, it requires a transition of the liquid crystal molecule from an initial splay state to the bend state configuration before providing the quick operation. A high voltage and a long warm-up time are needed to transform to the bend state. In this paper, the polyimide alignment films have been modified to reduce the splay-to-bend transition time by plasma beam treatments. The proposed method was demonstrated to be highly effective in improving the overall transition time. The number of splay-to-bend nucleation sites in the assembled liquid crystal cells could be increased dramatically by up to 20 times at the initial stage, and the improvement in the cell warm-up time was achieved at 45-71% reduction at 5.5 V. The plasma processing parameters were optimized at the plasma power of 700 W, the plasma distance of 25 mm, and the plasma scan speed of 600 mm/s. In addition, we maintained the excellent optical properties and response time characteristics for the optically-compensated-bend mode liquid crystal displays.

A static magnetic field B$\text{}^{0}$, acting on a chiral liquid perpendicular to the propagation direction of an optical beam, is shown to induce a magnetochiral change of Rayleigh light scattering which is different in sign for the light scattered parallel and antiparallel to B$\text{}^{0}$. It is related to the electric dipole and magnetic dipole or/and electric quadrupole moments induced simultaneously in a chiral molecule by electric dipole interaction with electromagnetic radiation. For diamagnetic molecules the effect is described by linear and nonlinear polarizabilities, responsible also for circular birefringence (natural optical activity and the Faraday effect) as well as axial (magnetochiral) birefringence.

Przy współpracy firmy Harat PRD s.j. oraz Katedry Inżynierii Materiałów Budowlanych została opracowana technologia wykonywania nawierzchni drogi pod obciążenie kategorią ruchu KR1 i KR2, z wykorzystaniem betonu wibrowałowanego. W referacie przedstawiono podstawowe zasady projektowania składu takiego betonu i omówiono technologię wykonywania nawierzchni drogi, zastosowaną jesienią 2010 przy pierwszej w Polsce realizacji odcinka drogi z betonu wibrowałowanego w Miastku (woj. Pomorskie).
The technology of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) was developed in cooperation of the Harat’s PRD's s.j. and Department of Civil Engineering and Building Materials for road pavements under traffic load category KR1 and KR2. The paper presents basic design principles for the composition of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) and discusses the technology of making the road pavement, applied in autumn 2010, when Polish first implementation of a RCC took place in Miastko (Pomeranian).

Przedmiotem niniejszego opracowania jest rozważenie, czy i w jakich okolicznościach reprezentowanie klienta nadużywającego prawa może stać się podstawą odpowiedzialności dyscyplinarnej. Zarówno powodem, jak i szerszym tłem rozpatrywanego zagadnienia stało się orzeczenie dyscyplinarne, w którym uznano radcę prawnego za winnego tego, że występował jako pełnomocnik przed wojewódzkimi sądami administracyjnymi na terenie całej Polski w 241 sprawach, zainicjowanych skargami na bezczynność organów w udzieleniu informacji publicznej. W pierwszej kolejności przeprowadzono badanie empiryczne, polegające na analizie dokumentów, wchodzących w skład akt sprawy dyscyplinarnej, które zostały udostępnione na potrzeby prowadzonych badań naukowych. W drugiej kolejności w artykule przedstawiono rozważania prawne na temat podstaw odpowiedzialności, uwieńczone oceną analizowanego rozstrzygnięcia.
This study intends to discuss whether and under what circumstances representation of a client who abuses the law may become a basis for disciplinary liability. Both the reason and the broader background of this issue were provided by a ruling in which an attorney-at-law was found guilty of having acted as an attorney before voivodeship administrative courts throughout Poland in 241 cases initiated by complaints about the inactivity of the authorities in providing public information. It was alleged that the attorney-at-law was aware of the fact that the client had abused the right to submit freedom-of-information requests and that he also received remuneration on this account. First, an empirical study was conducted, consisting in the analysis of documents included in the files of the disciplinary case, which were made available for the purpose of this research. Secondly, the article presents a legal discussion on the basis of liability, culminating in an assessment of the analysed decision.

The cemetery discovered in the village of Naprom, Ostróda County (former Gross Nappern, Kr. Osterode) is not known in the archaeological literature. Contemporary knowledge of the necropolis comes from the article: Prussians in the early Middle Ages and the outline of their material culture. The content can be inferred that the discovered site was a vast necropolis, within which a large number of sepulchral objects were uncovered. Some information about the discovery can be found in the articles by C. Engel published in the daily press in the 1930s. (Königsberger Stadtspiegel, Johannisburger Zeitung). During the archival inquiry carried out in the Archäologisches Landesmuseum Schloss Gottdorf in Schleswig (the so-called Rudolf Grenz’s files) and the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte in Berlin (the archives of the former Prussia-Museum) interesting unpublished materials concerning the burial ground in Gross Nappern were found. During his journey in Ostróda and Lidzbark county in 1931 Carl Engel carried out a trial excavation. In the trench two cremation graves covered with stone constructions were discovered. The potsherds were the only artifacts found in the graves (on the basis of the description these can be dated back to the 11th – 1st half of 13th c.). The owner of the grounds, where the graves were discovered reported that in the vicinity of the excavated graves there used to be a barrow (it was destroyed around 1905, and the stones from the mound were used during the construction of the barn). That was the reason why C. Engel came back to the village of Naprom to excavate the destroyed barrow.

Using a laser-induced fluorescence method, detailed analysis of profiles of the $\text{}^{114}$Cd 326.1 nm line perturbed by krypton was performed which revealed departures from the ordinary Voigt profile. These departures are shown to be consistent with fits of experimental profiles to a speed-dependent asymmetric Voigt profile. Coefficients of the pressure broadening, shift, and collision-time asymmetry are determined and compared with those calculated in the adiabatic approximation for the van der Waals, Czuchaj-Stoll, and Morse potentials.

Chiral nematic liquid crystals are very interesting materials to infiltrate photonic crystal fibers since they are characterized by unique optical properties such as selective Bragg reflection, circular dichroism, and optical activity. In this paper the latest experimental results of the photonic crystal fibers filled with new chiral nematic liquid crystals are presented. Spectral properties of the light propagating in the photonic liquid crystal fibers have been measured and analyzed.

We have applied the method of dynamic light scattering to analyse the lysozyme-ethanol interaction. For low ethanol concentration (below 4.3% (v/v)) no chemical denaturation process is observed. When the ethanol concentration grows above the triggering concentration the hydrodynamic radius of lysozyme increases, indicating the structural changes within the protein molecule. The observed structural modifications are attributed to dehydration and preliminary tertiary structure modification of the protein molecule.
