Electrostatic interactions between NH3 groups undergoing a correlated rotation are calculated with reference to the nickel hexammine complexes [Ni(NH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{6}$]$\text{}^{2+}$ The results demonstrate the angular dependence of the cis and trans arrangements of the model ammonia triangles. The previously defined four maxima and four minima are identified.

When the spin relaxation time of paramagnetic impurities at different magnetic sites differs by orders of magnitude then instead of resonance line broadening, rather a decay of the line amplitude is expected. In particular, the sp-d coupling of magnetic impurities to shallow impurities leads to a nonuniform distribution of the longitudinal relaxation rates of local spins.

In this paper we present recent experimental results related to nonlinear crystal field fluctuations and current flow in K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ fast-proton conductor far below the transition temperature T$\text{}_{g}$. The results for crystalline and powdered samples are quantitatively explained in the framework of soliton model of charge transport.

Opis:
Electron paramagnetic resonance in ac dissipation was observed due to the Cooper pairs breaking up to their quasiparticle state. This phenomenon is the result of a flux motion on a pinning centers in high temperature superconducting materials. The detection of ac dissipation was performed in a low ac field (15 and 22 MHz) as well as in microwave range. Vortex motion hysteresis loop with magnetic field modulation of 15 Hz was recorded. Besides V-shaped dependence of ac power dissipation P(B), a direct electron paramagnetic resonance signal related to Cooper pairs → quasiparticle fluctuation was observed.

EPR and ΜΜMΑ studies of C$\text{}_{60}$ upon K-doping have been performed. Two different and well separated EPR narrow lines were detected for C$\text{}_{60}^{1-}$ and C at temperatures below 100 K. Time dependent changes in the intensities of both and C$\text{}_{60}^{3-}$ lines were observed when the system undergoes an eutectoid transformation. The evolution of superconductivity with two T$\text{}_{c}$ related to different valences (v) of C$\text{}_{60}^{v}$ ion radicals have been found.

Opis:
ESR measurements at room temperature have been performed on fossil bones of cave bear (from Magurska Cave of the Tatra Mountains) and mammoth (from Dniestr River). Various paramagnetic centres related to defects in hydroxyapatite were identified. The ESR spectrum is dominated by Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ lines and free radical centres CO$\text{}_{2}^{-}$ and CO$\text{}_{3}^{-}$. Suitability of various EPR lines for the dating was evaluated. The spectra are affected by γ-ray and UV irradiation which produce new relatively unstable (transient) radical centres. From their decay curves we determined the delay period (waiting time) between irradiation and ESR dating measurements. For γ-rays the period is about 15 days and depends on the chosen ESR line. UV generates mainly surface O$\text{}^{-}$ centres which decay practically after a few days. The ESR dating of the bear bones using an additive dose method given the age t = 21.7 kiloyears (ky), whereas from radionuclide Th/U method t= 34 ky and from radiocarbon $\text{}^{14}$C method t > 33.1 ky.

We have measured the electron paramagnetic resonance spectra of genuine-organic anion-radical salts $[Me-2,6-di-Me-Py](TCNQ)_{2}$, $[Me-3,5-di-Me-Py](TCNQ)_{2}$, $[N-Me-OH-Me-Py](TCNQ)_{2}$, $[N-Et-OH-Me-Py](TCNQ)_{2}$, and metal-organic anion-radical salt $[Mn-phen_{3}](TCNQ)_{2}$·$H_{2}O$ in the temperature range from 2 K to 300 K in the X-band frequency range. A comparison study of the shape of spectra, g-factors and linewidths with respect to the composition and crystal structure of studied compounds is presented. While the genuine-organic anion-radical salts display a typical EPR response originating from TCNQ pairs, the spectra of metal-organic anion-radical salt are dominated by the contribution of transition metal.

The Cu(II) and Fe(III) ions have been adsorbed by four potato starches of different degrees of oxidation (different numbers of COOH groups replacing host CH$\text{}_{2}$OH groups): native (no oxidized), white (pudding) with oxidation degree of 0.04%, gelating (0.1%), and LUBOX starch (0.5%). Concentration of the ions in starches was determined from atomic absorption and EPR spectrum intensity. For small concentration of the adsorbed ions (below 4 mg/g) nearly all ions are adsorbed from the solution. EPR shows that adsorbed copper(II) ions are chemically bonded to the starch molecules (preferably) at COOH sites and uniformly dispersed in the starch structure. The complexes are typical of octahedral or square-quadratic coordination with spin-Hamiltonian parameters g$\text{}_{ǁ}$=2.373, g$\text{}_{⊥}$= 2.080, A$\text{}_{ǁ}$=12.1 mT, A$\text{}_{⊥}$=1.0 mT. For higher concentrations the Cu(II) displays a tendency to clustering. Iron(III) ions are introduced into starch in a form of clusters mainly, even for the smallest concentration. The highest concentrations of both Cu(II) and Fe(III) were observed in LUBOX starch having the highest degree of oxidation.

Natural calcite samples were collected from the dripstone layers of the Black Cave of the Tatra Mountains. ESR spectra, thermal analysis, and thermoluminescence data were analysed to obtain a consistent picture of the calcite properties. The ESR spectra were analysed using computer enhanced resolution spectra and an influence of the thermal annealing on intensity of individual ESR lines was measured. These results together with the effects of γ-irradiation in ESR spectra allowed one to discriminate between ESR lines from various paramagnetic centres. A general conclusion of the paper is that in the ESR dating the outer ESR lines of CO$\text{}_{3}^{-}$ (g=2.0125) and CO$\text{}_{2}^{-}$ (g=1.9980) radicals should be used instead of the commonly used multicomponent central line.

New results concerning paramagnetic defects in SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ and SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ high-T$\text{}_{c}$ substrates connected with unavoidable impurity Fe$\text{}^{3+}$ are reported. The identification was checked by measuring the spectra in SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ crystals intentionally doped with 0.5 at.% Fe. Angular dependences of three lines were distinguished at X-band frequency in the temperature range from 4 K to 300 K. We attribute these lines to the transitions inside the doublets ±1/2, and "forbidden" doublets ±3/2, ±5/2, respectively. By diagonalization of spin-Hamiltonian, parameters |D| > 1.2 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, |E| ≈ 0.1 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ and g$\text{}_{x}$=g$\text{}_{y}$=g$\text{}_{z}$= 1.987(13) for SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ and SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ were calculated and within the margin of error they were of the same value.

EPR of Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ impurity ion in the (NH$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ crystal is studied in the temperature range 80-420 K. It is shown that Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ substitutes NH$\text{}_{4}^{+}$(I) ion and is coordinated in deformed oxygen octahedron in which takes two "off-center" positions. Its spin-Hamiltonian parameters and direction cosines of crystal field are determined. The successive EPR line splitting for three phase transitions is discussed.

Angular variations of the g-factors and linewidth value were recorded at X-band, at room temperature, and at 77 K. The temperature dependence of the g-factors was measured along the principal g-tensor axes in the temperature range from 4.2 K to 300 K. The rigid lattice g-factors at 4.2 K are: g$\text{}_{z}$ = 2.428, g$\text{}_{y}$ = 2.138, and g$\text{}_{x}$ = 2.058. The g$\text{}_{x}$ value very slowly increases linearly on heating, whereas g$\text{}_{z}$ and g$\text{}_{y}$ nonlinearly tend towards their average value. This is a typical behaviour of Cu(II) EPR in Tutton salt crystals, however the g(T) dependence is much less pronounced in (NH$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$Cu(BeF$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$0 as compared to the Cu(II) doped salts. The results are described in terms of the two vibronic coupling models of the strong Jahn-Teller effect. It is shown that the models are not adequate to describe the vibronic g-factor behaviour in paramagnetic Cu(II) crystals which is attributed to the cooperative Jahn-Teller effect existing in these crystals.

The EPR of Mn$\text{}^{2+}$- or VO$\text{}^{2+}$-doped superprotonic conductor K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ is studied in the 80-471 K temperature range. VO$\text{}^{2+}$ EPR spectrum reveals diffusion induced merging of proton transferred superhyperfine structure above 380 K. Line width anomaly is observed in Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ EPR spectrum which is attributed to the intrabond and interbond proton motions, these lead to high protonic conductivity. It is shown that paramagnetic centers namely of electronic spin greater than 1, with excess charge compensated by the protonic vacancy, are good probes to monitor the protonic conductivity on molecular level.

Angular dependences of ESR line parameters (g-factor and linewidth Δ H) were experimentally explored in the antiferroquadrupolar phase of heavy fermion system CeB₆ at T=1.8 K. The data were obtained in two experimental geometries with different mutual directions of the wavevector k and the external magnetic field H at frequency of f=60 GHz. A g-factor anisotropy was found: while g-factors for [110] and [111] directions are close to each other (g ≈1.6), it is considerably higher (g ≈1.75) for [100]. The obtained angular dependence g(Θ) was compared with the theoretically predicted g-factor behavior for the Γp₈ state of Ce³⁺ ion in antiferroquadrupolar phase of CeB₆. The K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ doped with Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion was studied in detail by X-band CW EPR. Two kinds of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ complexes (magnetically and structurally nonequivalent) denoted as Cu$\text{}^{2+}$(I) and Cu$\text{}^{2+}$(II) were found. Spin-Hamiltonian parameters, direction cosines, and coordination of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion were determined at room temperature. The superhyperfine structure was observed below 250 K as a result of interacting of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion with four equivalent protons (I=1/2). Temperature studies of K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ crystal show that interbond motion as a precursor of superprotonic phase transition occurs at above≈250 K.

Opis:
EPR linewidth of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ in the Tutton salt crystals weakly depends on temperature at low temperatures and then it rapidly grows above 60 K. We present detailed results of measurements and analysis for $\text{}^{63}$Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ in K$\text{}_{2}$Zn(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6 H$\text{}_{2}$O, K$\text{}_{2}$ Zn(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6D$\text{}_{2}$O, (NH$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$Mg(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O and Cs$\text{}_{2}$Zn (SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O in a temperature range of 4.2-300 K and compare them with already published electron spin-lattice relaxation data. The relaxation contributes weakly to the linewidth which is dominated by molecular dynamics and grows exponentially with temperature. To describe this we are discussing the influence of jumps between two sites of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ complexes in a slow motion region where the sites are differently thermally populated. This case has not been considered so far. We have derived appropriate expressions describing the contribution of jumps to the linewidth which allows the determination of the jump rate and energy difference δ$\text{}_{A,B}$ between the two sites being two Jahn-Teller distorted configurations of the vibronic Cu(H$\text{}_{2}$O)$\text{}_{6}$ complexes. The jump rate 1/τ strongly depends on temperature and reaches 10$\text{}^{9}$ s$\text{}^{-1}$ at room temperature, whereas theδ$\text{}_{A,B}$ varies from 117 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ for K$\text{}_{2}$Zn(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6D$\text{}_{2}$O to 422 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ for Cs$\text{}_{2}$Zn(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6 H$\text{}_{2}$O. The comparison with vibronic level splitting, which varies in the range of 67-102 cm$\text{}^{-1}$, indicates that the reorientation mechanism involves phonon induced tunnelling via excited vibronic levels. These reorientations do not contribute, however, to the spin-lattice relaxation which is governed by ordinary two-phonon relaxation processes in the whole temperature range. Thus, the reorientations and spin relaxation are two independent phenomena contributing to the total linewidth.

In this work we show the impact of the roasting process on the properties of organic radicals in some herbal products added to cereal coffee. The EPR study shows the presence of radicals in dried herbal products, both natural and roasted. Changes in the relative intensity of the EPR signal and in the g-factor for unroasted and roasted plant material can be observed. This indicates to the recombination processes of radicals. Roasting process increases the number of radicals. The analysis of EPR spectra show that they consist of two Gaussian lines which indicate that there are at least two different kinds of radicals. The values of g-factor about 2 may be derived from a number of very different radicals. For this reason the identification of such radicals is not strictly possible.

Opis:
The lower and upper critical fields, as well as the specific heat were measured as a function of temperature for good quality DyBa$\text{}_{2}$Cu$\text{}_{3}$O$\text{}_{7}$ high-temperature superconductor in the vicinity of superconducting transition temperature T$\text{}_{c}$ = 91.2 K. The number of superconducting and normal state electronic quantities were determined basing on the Ginzburg-Landau-Abrikosov-Gorkov theory. It is argued that on the basis of this BCS-like theory one can describe the superconducting properties and, in combination with some information on the electronic structure, also the magnetic properties of high-temperature superconductors.

The paper reports the electron paramagnetic resonance investigation of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ doped [(CH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{2}$NH$\text{}_{2}$]$\text{}_{5}$Cd$\text{}_{3}$Cl$\text{}_{11}$ (DMACC) monocrystal. DMACC:Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ was studied in the temperature range (6÷293) K. We did not observe any anomalies of spin-Hamiltonian parameters of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ion corresponding to the temperature anomalies observed in dielectric studies. The electron paramagnetic resonance anomaly recorded at about 40 K results from the subtle changes in bonds angles and Cu-Cl distances and suggests the smooth second order transition.

The superposition model is used to investigate the crystal field parameters, $B_{kq}$ of $Cr^{3+}$ in lithium potassium sulphate. The zero field splitting parameters D and E are then determined using microscopic spin Hamiltonian theory and compared with the experimental values obtained by electron paramagnetic resonance. Both zero field splitting parameters D and E evaluated theoretically are in good agreement with the experimental values. The results suggest that the $Cr^{3+}$ ion occupies substitutional K^{+} site in lithium potassium sulphate.

The paper presents the results of XANES (X-ray Absorption Near Edge Structure) experiments, of the high-temperature superconductors of Y-Ba-Cu-O-type carried out at the Cu L$\text{}_{II,III}$- and O K$\text{}_{I}$-edges using synchrotron radiation and the KMC double monochromator and SX-700 grading monochromator beamlines of BESSY/Berlin synchrotron storage ring. The aim of the paper is to show that the XANES studies are well suited for characterization of the local electronic structure of the high-temperature superconductors.

Different intercalated carbon systems: K$\text{}_{x}$C$\text{}_{60}$, Rb$\text{}_{x}$C$\text{}_{60}$ as well as highly oriented pyrolytic graphite + potassium with unstable structural and superconducting behavior were investigated with the EPR and magnetically modulated microwave absorption techniques. Three characteristic, well-separated EPR signals were observed for A$\text{}_{x}$C$\text{}_{60}$ (A = K or Rb) systems at the early stages of doping process. We ascribed these signals to C$\text{}_{60}^{+}$, C$\text{}_{60}^{1-}$, and C$\text{}_{60}^{3-}$ radicals. Evolution of the EPR spectrum characterizes different phases of K$\text{}_{x}$C$\text{}_{60}$ system including superconducting one. Two superconducting phases with T$\text{}_{c}^{(1)}$=(21±0.5) K (unstable) and T$\text{}_{c}^{(2)}$=(18.5±0.5) K (final, stable) were distinctly separated for K$\text{}_{x}$C$\text{}_{60}$ system. For C$\text{}_{60}$ intercalated by rubidium a similar evolution of EPR spectrum is observed. Prior to well-defined superconducting Rb$\text{}_{3}$C$\text{}_{60}$ phase was created, strong instabilities of the magnetically modulated microwave absorption signal were observed at the narrow part of the doping process. For potassium intercalated highly oriented pyrolytic graphite, EPR oscillations below 100 K were observed as well as Josephson hysteresis loops were registered at 5 K.

Solid state high resolution $\text{}^{13}$C NMR studies of a 1 : 2 charge transfer complex of TCNQ with diethyl-methyl sulfonium S + Et$\text{}_{2}$Me(TCNQ)$\text{}_{2}$ are presented. The metallic shifts of TCNQ resonances are interpreted as due to the Pauli paramagnetism of conducting electrons and quantitatively connected with inhomogeneous spin density distribution over (TCNQ2)¯ dimer. A singularity of NMR parameters at T = 330 K is observed and described as a structural phase transition occurring in the S + Et$\text{}_{2}$Me cation sublattice.

Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) and EPR detected via MCD (MCD-EPR) investigations have been performed on rare-earth activated oxyfluoride glasses and glass-ceramics. Er³⁺, Gd³⁺, and Mn²⁺ activators in oxyfluoride glass-ceramics show paramagnetic MCD behaviour and the MCD-EPR has been detected. The results of the MCD-EPR measurements for the Er-doped oxyfluoride glass-ceramics showed that Er³⁺ ions in the CaF₂ crystallites in these ceramics embed only in the cubic symmetry environment, similarly to the previous observations of cubic Gd³⁺ centres in the glass-ceramics containing CaF₂. Finally, the correlation of optics and paramagnetic centres is discussed for Mn-doped YAlO₃ ceramics.

The high-spin↔ low-spin transition in (2Me-5Et-PyH)[Fe(Th-5Cl-Sa)$\text{}_{2}$] was studied by EPR under hydrostatic pressure in the temperature range of 80-310 K. Two modifications of the low-spin complexes: low-pressure (LS-1) and high-pressure (LS-2) ones were revealed. The low-spin complexes are associated in domains. Under atmospheric pressure LS-1 appears or disappears at 220 K. The hydrostatic pressure shifts the transition to high temperatures. Above 410 MPa the abrupt changes of the g-factor and width Δ B of the EPR line are observed. The pressure-induced transition LS-1 ↔ LS-2 is almost independent of T up to 275 K where under pressure 420 MPa a triple point is observed. When the pressure has been decreased the reverse transition from LS-2 to LS-1 or to high spin phase (at T>260 K) occurs with a large hysteresis about 95 MPa.

The ESR spectrum of Dy$\text{}^{3+}$ ion in the low-symmetry RbDy(WO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ crystal has been studied in the temperature region of T=4.2 ÷ 30K. The ESR linewidth was found to increase from 130 mT up to the maximum value of 190 mT at T=9K and then to decrease down to 150 mT at 4.2K. The components of the g-tensor change considerably without change of their spatial orientation in the temperature range from 12K to 7 K: g$\text{}_{z}$=2.5, g$\text{}_{x}$≈0, g$\text{}_{y}$=1.41 at T>12 K; g$\text{}_{z}$=1.53, g$\text{}_{x}$≈0, g$\text{}_{y}$=1.2 at T<7K. The observed λ-shaped behaviour of absorption linewidth and the decrease in the g-factor are assumed to be due to the low-temperature structural phase transition (T$\text{}_{SPT}$≈9 K). The width of the transition area is of about 5K. It is suggested that the symmetry of high- and low-temperature phases is identical.

We report the observations of electron paramagnetic resonance and impedance measurements of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide performed in the wide temperature range in order to get insight into the electronic properties of graphene-based materials and the role of oxygen functionalities in the charge carrier transport phenomena. In such systems the strong spin localization, hopping charge carrier transport as well as the formation of adsorption layers are observed, all the phenomena changing significantly after the heavily oxidized graphene is reduced.

Transport integrals I$\text{}_{n}$(Θ$\text{}_{D}$/T) are reviewed with their applications in solid-state physics, molecular dynamics, and electron spin-lattice relaxation. Analytical approximations of I$\text{}_{n}$ for n=2-8 are proposed as applicable for computer fitting procedures in the range of the variable x=Θ$\text{}_{D}$/T from 0.1 to 40. The results are applied for description of the spin-lattice relaxation data collected for Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ions in triglycine sulphate and are compared with relaxation data for Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ and Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ in (NH$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$Mg(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O.

Deuterated monoclinic RbD$\text{}_{2}$PO$\text{}_{4}$ (DRDP) doped with chromium Cr$\text{}^{5+}$ is studied by EPR in 90 K to 400 K temperature range. EPR reveals two types of paramagnetic centers: single Cr$\text{}^{5+}$ (S = 1/2) complex and Cr$\text{}^{5+}$-Cr$\text{}^{5+}$ coupled pairs with effective spin S = 1. The EPR line splitting of single Cr$\text{}^{5+}$ complex in DRDP versus temperature agrees with the unit cell multiplication. The splitting of EPR line of pair spectrum appears at T* = 160 K, far below the phase transition temperatures and is due to the anisotropy of the exchange interaction. The clustering effect in the low-dimensional DRDP is suggested.

Two thermal donor related EPR centers Si-NL8 and Si-NL10 were studied by the photo-EPR technique. The spectral dependence of the intensity of the EPR signals was determined for the region from 0.6 to 1.4 eV in several samples with different Fermi level position. The quenching of the Si-NL8 signal with the coinciding enhancement of the Si-NL10 signal has been observed with possible indication of some metastable behavior of the NL8 center. For the heavily aluminum doped material strong generation of photocurrent upon band gap illumination has been observed. The results of the study provide further evidence for mutal correlation of both thermal donor related EPR centers since the observed spectral dependences could be understood by relating both NL8 and NL10 spectra to different paramagnetic states of basically the same center.

The pretransitional phenomena of superprotonic phase transition (T$\text{}_{sp}$=471 K) were studied in detail by X-band continuous wave EPR spectra of K$\text{}_{3}$H(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ crystal doped with VO$\text{}^{2+}$ ions. Three kinds of VO$\text{}^{2+}$ complexes (magnetically equivalent but structurally non-equivalent) denoted as VO$\text{}^{2+}$(I), VO$\text{}^{2+}$(II), and VO$\text{}^{2+}$(III) were found. "Smearing out" of the superhyperfine structure was observed as a result of interbond proton motion. VO$\text{}^{2+}$ impurity replaces K$\text{}^{+}$ ion and experiences the same average crystal field gradient at T$\text{}_{sp}$=471 K for I- and II-type complexes. The increase in interbond proton frequency hopping above 360 K is a reason of significant line broadening.

Commercially available poly-(1,4-phenylene sulfide) = PPS with trade names TEDUR and RYTON contain a great amount of Fe(III) (order of 10$\text{}^{20}$ Fe/gram) as shown by electron spin resonance spectra. The curing of the pure and Fe-doped (0.2% Fe$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{3}$) PPS polymers proves that Fe(III) can be used for improvement of the PPS strength by increasing the polymer cross-linking and a decrease in the polymer crystallinity degree as shown by X-ray diffraction.

Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ions doped to ZnGeF$\text{}_{6}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O substitute the host Zn$\text{}^{2+}$ ions and undergo a strong Jahn-Teller effect producing nearly axial elongation of the Cu(H$\text{}_{2}$O)$\text{}_{6}$ octahedra with equal population of the three possible deformations at low temperatures as shown by the EPR spectra. Reorientations between these distorted configurations are observed as a continuous shift of EPR lines leading to averaging of the g- and A-tensors. The full averaging is observed at the phase transition temperature 200 K. Electron spin relaxation was measured up to 45 K only, where the electron spin echo signal was detectable. Electron spin-lattice relaxation is governed by the Raman two-phonon process allowing to determine the Debye temperature asΘ$\text{}_{D}$=99 K. There is no contribution of the Jahn-Teller dynamics to the spin-lattice relaxation rate. Electron spin echo decay is strongly modulated by dipolar coupling to the $\text{}^{1}$H and $\text{}^{19}$F nuclei. The phase memory time is governed by instantaneous diffusion at helium temperatures and then by spin-lattice relaxation processes and excitation to the first vibronic level of energyΔ=151 cm$\text{}^{-1}$.

Opis:
Single crystals and powder EPR spectra of Cu$\text{}^{2+}$ ions in Cs$\text{}_{2}$Zn(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{6}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O were recorded in the temperature range of 4.2-300 K and the g-factor temperature variations were determined. The g$\text{}_{z}$ and g$\text{}_{y}$ have the values of 2.443 and 2.134, respectively, at the rigid lattice limit below 20 K, and then continuously tend to an average value on heating. This vibronic averaging produced by reorientations of Cu(H$\text{}_{2}$O)$\text{}_{6}$-complexes between Jahn-Teller distorted octahedral configurations is described in terms of a two-state Silver-Getz model which is known as a good model for diamagnetic non-ammonium Tutton salts. We found, however, that this model is only a crude approximation in Cs$\text{}_{2}$Zn(SO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{6}$·6H$\text{}_{2}$O below 150 K. Above this temperature the model works better and describes the vibronic dynamics between the two lowest energy potential wells in the adiabatic potential surface differing in the energy of δ$\text{}_{12}$=318(9) cm$\text{}^{-1}$=3.7 kJ/mol.

A careful analysis of the alleged electron paramagnetic resonance spectrum of VH$\text{}_{2}$ in silicon is made. The parameters of this spectrum coincide with those of the well-known excited state (S=1) spectrum of the oxygen vacancy defect. The conclusion is reached that they are one and the same.

In this work field-sweep electron spin echo and pulsed electron nuclear double resonance study of the silicon carbide (SiC) nanoparticles (np-SiC) of different sizes is presented. Nitrogen (N) triplet lines due to the isolated N donor state was observed in np-SiC with grain size d>100 nm. With a decrease of the particle size up to 50 nm the N triplet lines transforms into one single exchange line due to the delocalization of the donor wave function caused by the size confinement effect. Along with N donors the carbon vacancy ($V_{C}$) located in cubic phase was observed in np-SiC with d < 100 nm. The further decrease of the grain size to d < 50 nm leads to the appearance of the $V_{C}$ located in hexagonal crystalline phase and carbon dangling bonds located in the carbon excess phase of np-SiC. The fact that only N donor center at "k2" quasi-cubic position substituting Si site was observed in the field-sweep electron spin echo and pulsed electron nuclear double resonance spectra of np-SiC was explained by high compensation degree of the samples and the presence of carbon excess in np-SiC. The appearance of the proton electron nuclear double resonance signal in no-SiC with d < 100 nm indicates that the hydrogen retention in np-SiC increases with decreasing of grain size.

Opis:
Magnetic resonance technique may successfully be applied to determine some basic parameters such as g-factor, magnetization M$\text{}_{s}$ or anisotropy energy constant K$\text{}_{u}$ in thin magnetic films. These parameters are obtained from a ferromagnetic resonance experiment when uniform precession of M$\text{}_{s}$ takes place. From spin-wave resonance one may extract very valuable information on the exchange constant A or the surface conditions characterized by the surface anisotropy energy (or pinning parameters ρ). In fact, it is only spin-wave resonance or similar techniques which allow for measurements of A, ρ or the coupling constant K$\text{}_{c}$ between ferromagnetic sublayers in multi-layered structure. The magnetic phase diagram, temperature dependence of the spin-waves stiffness constant, and the anisotropy energy constant may also be listed as less common examples of spin-wave resonance technique application for the investigation of thin films. This paper presents a theoretical approach to typical examples of experimental results and their interpretation from spin-wave resonance measurements.

We have studied magnetic properties of zinc-oxide composite doped with high concentration (up to 20%) of Co and Cr ions. The pulsed laser deposition method was used to obtain samples on quartz glass and sapphire substrates. Samples were annealed at 100-250°C for ZnO on quartz substrate, and 300-700°C on sapphire substrate. EMR measurements were carried out and temperature dependence of the EMR spectra was obtained. The angular dependence in two samples orientation, vertical and horizontal, were also obtained. Analysis of the temperature dependences of the integral intensity of EMR spectra was carried out using the Curie-Weiss law.

Magnetic susceptibility and X-band electron spin resonance study of a two-dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnetic system $CuBr_2$(bipy), where bipy = $C_{10}H_8N_2$ is 4,4'-bipyridyl, has been performed in the temperature range from 300 K down to 2 K. A rhombic anisotropy of the g-factor was obtained from X-band EPR measurements with $g_{x}$ = 2.037, $g_{y}$ = 2.100 and $g_{z}$ = 2.219. The temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility with a round maximum observed at 28 K suggests antiferromagnetic type of short-range order. No signature of the magnetic long-range order in studied compound was observed. The comparison of the magnetic susceptibility data with a two-dimensional rectangular Heisenberg model yields the values of intralayer exchange couplings J/$k_{B}$ = - 47 K and J'/$k_{B}$ = - 9.4 K.

In this paper we present our observation of electric dipole spin resonance and current induced spin resonance in ZnO bulk crystals, both effects result from spin-orbit coupling. Electric dipole spin resonance originates from admixture of spin state due to spin-orbit interaction which leads to probability of spin-flip caused by electric component of microwave field. In current induced spin resonance phenomenon the electric component of microwave field induces electron motion leading to mean ac spin-orbit field that acts on electron spin. Spin-orbit interaction can be described in terms of the Rashba field, an effective magnetic field that induce spin resonance. In contrast to magnetic and electric dipole spin resonances the current induced resonance is characterized by dispersive-like line shape.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to investigate, from theoretical point of view, the optical spectra and EPR (g-factors) parameters for $Mn^{4+}:LiGa_{5}O_{8}$. The optical energy levels scheme has been obtained by the diagonalization of the Hamiltonian of the system, using all 50 wave functions of the LS terms of $3d^{3}$ electron configuration. The crystal field parameters have been obtained in the exchange charge model of crystal field, taking into account the structure of the host matrix and effects of the covalent bond formation between the $Mn^{4+}$ with $O^{2-}$. The satisfactory agreement with experimental data is obtained.

Temperature dependences (4-300 K) of the electron spin-lattice relaxation have been determined by electron spin echo technique for free radicals in two polymeric systems: phenol-formaldehyde resin and polyhydrazodisulphide. The dependences are described in terms of dynamics specific for amorphous systems involving two-level tunnelling states at low temperatures, exchange-coupled clusters of paramagnetic centres and local oscillators. Some universal temperature behaviour of the spin-lattice relaxation of amorphous systems is suggested, with a strong increase in relaxation rate with temperature at low temperatures and much weaker increase above 50 K with characteristic linear temperature dependence in a broad temperature range and cosech(Δ/kT) -type behaviour. It is also shown that the amorphous-type behaviour appears in low temperatures relaxation studies of single crystals but it is due to a non-uniform distribution of doped paramagnetic ions. Such behaviour we have found in Tutton salt crystals doped with Cu$\text{}^{2+}$, as well as for free radical centres produced by ionising irradiation in (NH$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{3}$H(SeO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$ and Li(N$\text{}_{2}$H$\text{}_{5}$)SO$\text{}_{4}$ single crystals, where extended phonons are suppressed around radiation damage centres suggesting a local amorphisation of the crystal structure.zapisz i p

The effect of annealing SrLaAlO$\text{}_{4}$ (SLA) and SrLaGaO$\text{}_{4}$ (SLG) crystals in oxidizing and reducing atmospheres in the temperature range of 950°C-1300°C was investigated. Three kinds of anisotropic defects D$\text{}_{1}$, D$\text{}_{2}$, and E at the temperature range of 4-300 K were found. By diagonalization of orthorhombic spin-Hamiltonian parameters: |D|=0.0541(10) cm$\text{}^{-1}$, |E|=0.0108(10) cm$\text{}^{-1}$, g$\text{}_{∥}$=0.883(5), and g$\text{}_{⊥ }$=1.922(5) for D$\text{}_{1}$ defects for SLG and SLA were calculated and they had the same values within the margin of error.

Opis:
Microcrystals of cubic boron nitride powders synthesised under different conditions and further irradiated with neutrons and electrons have been investigated. It was found that some changes of the samples' paramagnetic properties depend on the electron irradiation dose. It was also shown that the initial boron type defects growth occurs under thermal neutron, as well as under fast neutrons irradiation. The nitrogen-containing defects concentration changes in a threshold manner.

The ferromagnetic Curie temperatures $T_{C}$ derived from a temperature derivative of AC susceptibility are equal to 106 K and 161 K for the nanocrystalline and polycrystalline manganites, respectively. The magnetic susceptibility and electron spin resonance confirm that the Griffiths-like phase exists above the Curie temperature in paramagnetic matrix of the nanocrystalline manganite. An analysis of electron spin resonance spectra allows to detect the upper temperature limit for an existence of Griffiths-like phase at temperature $T_{GI}=290 K$, which is somewhat higher than the $T_{G}$ of the magnetic susceptibility.

The spin-lattice relaxation in CdMnTe at 4.7 K has been measured at high magnetic fields up to 24.5 T. At fields, where the ground state of nearest-neighbor exchange coupled Mn pairs changes due to energy level crossing, an increase in the relaxation rate is observed. This is attributed to the change of relaxation of nearest-neighbor Mn pairs. It proves that not only large size Mn clusters are involved in the relaxation as it has been shown previously, but also Mn pairs. It shows as well that the mixing of pair states is quite effective.

The aim of the present study is to explain the local distortion around $Cr^{3+}$ ions doped in the title crystal using the latest experimental data regarding optical and EPR spectra. We calculated $g_ǁ$, $g_⊥$, and D spin-Hamiltonian parameter as function of angle between the $C_3$ axis and metal-ligand chemical bond in local distorted octahedral cluster $[CrO_6]^{9-}$ formed after doped crystal. The method is based on the single spin-orbit coupling parameter model, in the cluster approach using Macfarlane high order perturbation formulae. The results compared with experimental data give a reasonable agreement.

In this paper we present the results of ESR and photo-ESR measurements on YAlO$\text{}_{3}$(YAP) single crystals and powder samples doped purposely with about 1 at.% Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ and undoped crystals in which Er$\text{}^{3+}$ was observed as residual dopant. The ESR measurements were carried out at X-band spectrometer in 4-300 K temperature range. The photo-ESR was performed at 5 K using a mercury arc lamp. For the Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ doped crystals the intensity of ESR signal decreased about 2 times during illumination conditions. Moreover, the calculations of the g tensor and A hyperfine structure parameters for Nd$\text{}^{3+}$ and Er$\text{}^{3+}$ were carried out.

In this work electron magnetic resonance (EMR) spectra of off-stoichiometric $Ni_{50}Mn_{35.5}In_{14.5}$ Heusler alloy ribbons obtained by melt-spinning method were measured. The EMR measurements were performed on the X-band (9.36 GHz) spectrometer. Angle dependences were registered for three orientations of sample, with the use of uniaxial goniometer at 300. The results exhibited magnetic anisotropy and were used for calculating the principal values of g tensor.

The SLR times are measured for different sample temperatures between 3.0K and 35K and compared with data of a more diluted sample with x=0.002. The SLR times are shorter than expected for single spin SLR. Moreover, the temperature dependence of the SLR time does not show any of the characteristic behaviours for single spin SLR. Thus, the observed SLR times are explained by cross relaxation of single spins with spin clusters.

Opis:
A multicomponent vanadate M$\text{}_{3}$Fe$\text{}_{4}$V$\text{}_{6}$O$\text{}_{24}$ sample with non-magnetic M = Zn(II) ions was synthesized by the solid state reaction method using stoichiometric mixtures of the 80mol% FeVO$\text{}_{4}$ and 20mol% Zn$\text{}_{3}$(VO$\text{}_{4}$)$\text{}_{2}$. The temperature dependence of the EPR spectra was performed in the 90-280 K temperature range. The resonance field and the integrated intensity of the EPR line showed minimum value of both parameters at≈200 K. It is suggested that a part of the sample is displaying tendency to form an antiferromagnetic ordered state (or the magnetic clusters) above this temperature while below the ferromagnetic interaction of the main part of material is dominating. This behaviour is attributed to the inherent magnetic inhomogeneity of the system due to the presence of the ferromagnetic or antiferromagnetic spin clusters.

Opis:
The magnetic properties of the novel dimeric compound [Cu(H₂O)(OH)(tmen)]₂[Pd(CN)₄]·2H₂O (tmen=N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine) with modulated crystal structure were studied in the temperature range from 95 mK to 300 K. Magnetic measurements revealed a presence of weak antiferromagnetic exchange coupling in the compound. The temperature dependence of specific heat is characterized by the presence of a Schottky-like maximum at 0.47 K and a λ-anomaly at 0.28 K, indicating the formation of long-range order in the system. The comparison of the experimental data with theoretical predictions revealed the presence of antiferromagnetic intradimer exchange coupling J/k_{B}= -1.2 K and interdimer coupling of a similar strength mediated via hydrogen bonds between dimeric units forming a frustrated magnetic zig-zag chain structure.

Opis:
A mixture of antiferromagnetic Cu_{1.4}Mn_{1.6}O₄ and Cu_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Mn₂O₄ or/and ZnMn₂O₄ spinels was prepared. Dealuminated HY zeolite and silica were doped by these Cu-Mn-Zn spinels. The materials were investigated by X-ray diffraction, the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and EPR spectroscopy. Additionally, all the samples were tested for their activity for isopropyl alcohol dehydration/dehydrogenation. Three EPR signals were observed for Cu-Mn-Zn/dealuminated HY and Cu-Mn-Zn/SiO₂ samples at 293 K. In contrast to the spectra recorded at 293 K, only one broad line attributed to Cu-Mn-Zn spinels was visible at 77 K. The EPR signal from pure Cu-Mn-Zn spinels consists only of a single broad line when recorded at 293 K, whereas at 77 K the line is narrower. For all samples subjected to evacuation at high vacuum up to 573 K, the Cu-Mn-Zn spinels were stable. The evacuation at 673 K resulted in a rapid lowering of the intensity of EPR spectrum.

The local structure, two optical band positions and three electronic spin resonance parameters for $Cu^{2+}$ centers at the tetragonally-distorted octahedral sites in $ZnO-Bi_2O_3-B_2O_3-CuO$ glasses are calculated from the high-order perturbation method based on the two-spin-orbit-parameter model, where the contributions from both the spin-orbit coupling parameters of central $d^{n}$ ion and ligand ion are included. The theoretical results are in good agreement with the experimental values. The calculations show that the high-order perturbation method based on the two-spin-orbit-parameter model is effective in the explanations of optical spectra, electronic spin resonance parameters and local distortion structure for $d^{9}$ ions in glasses.

Opis:
A study concerning the image quality in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance Imaging (EPRI) in 2D spectral-spatial (2D SSI) experiments is presented. The aim of the measurements is to improve the signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the projections by applying a more consciously selected modulation amplitude parameter. Data is gathered by applying three constant and one adaptive modulation amplitude. The three fixed modulation amplitudes values are leading to undermodulated (0.01 G), partially overmodulated (0.15 G) and fully overmodulated (0.65 G) projections. The study demonstrates the advantages of the adaptive method, which involves selecting different and dependent on cosine function modulation amplitudes for each projection. The study is performed on a phantom containing four tubes of LiPc and TCNQ, characterized by a different peak to peak linewidth and spin concentration.

We report on high resolution X-band electron spin resonance (ESR) spectroscopy studies of the spin-ladder material $(C_{5}H_{12}N)_{2}CuBr_{4}$. Our experiments provide a direct evidence for the presence of anisotropy in $(C_{5}H_{12}N)_{2}CuBr_{4}$ in contrast to a fully isotropic spin-ladder model employed for this system previously. Low-temperature angular dependence of ESR transitions is analyzed employing a simple spin-1/2 dimer model with the symmetric anisotropic exchange interaction.

The crystal structure and paramagnetism in the pyrazinamide containing copper(II) 2-nitrobenzoate single crystal were investigated using X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance techniques. X-ray diffraction analysis shows that the complex crystallizes in monoclinic system having two molecules in the unit cell. After using curve fitting method to the electron paramagnetic resonance spectra, anisotropic g and hyperfine A tensors were obtained. The local symmetry, spin Hamiltonian parameters, and molecular bonding coefficients of the paramagnetic Cu²⁺ ion were determined. Perturbation approach was applied to the spin Hamiltonian to calculate the g and A values.

X-band electron magnetic resonance measurements of polycrystalline CaMn$\text{}_{1-x,y}$M$\text{}_{x,y}$O$\text{}_{3}$ (M = Ru, 0≤x≤0.5; M = Mo, 0≤y≤0.14) samples were performed at 120 K≤ T≤540 K. The observed anomalies of electron magnetic resonance parameters correlate pretty well with the temperatures of antiferro-, ferromagnetic-like, and orbital/charge-ordering transitions in these systems and specify phase diagrams obtained by other techniques. However, a strong difference between resonant properties of Ru- and Mo-doped series is observed in both paramagnetic and magnetically ordered states. To describe such a difference, the energy bands diagrams, which comprise the deep impurity t$\text{}_{2g}$-like states + e$\text{}_{g}$-like conductive band for CaMn$\text{}_{1-x}$Ru$\text{}_{x}$O$\text{}_{3}$ and shallow impurity states + conductive band, both having e$\text{}_{g}$-like symmetry, for CaMn$\text{}_{1-y}$Mo$\text{}_{y}$O$\text{}_{3}$, are proposed. Specific electrons' contribution to the electron magnetic resonance line width explains concentration and temperature dependences of this parameter in the paramagnetic state in considered systems.

A volumetric method was applied to study an adsorption coefficient of hydrogen molecules in a gas phase on super activated carbon surface. The investigations were focused on getting the best possible materials for the energy storage. Several treatments on raw samples were used to improve adsorption properties. The biggest capacities were obtained after high temperature treatment at reduced atmosphere. The adsorption coefficient at 77 K and 2 MPa amounts to 3.158 wt%. The charge transfer between lithium and carbon surface groups via the doping reaction enhanced the energy of adsorption. It was also found that there is a gradual decrease in the adsorbed amount of H$\text{}_{2}$ molecules due to occupation active sites by lithium ions.

Studies of positron annihilation accompanied by EPR technique were undertaken for sodalite and lazurite and their synthetic counterparts (synthetic sodalite and ultramarines). Results of measurements performed by two techniques of positron annihilation spectroscopy (angular correlation of annihilation radiation, ACAR, and positron annihilation lifetime) revealed the undoubted influence of free radicals on positron annihilation mechanism but both inhibition of positronium formation by them and the effect of filling cages ought to be taken into account. The distinct differences between ACAR curves for sodalites, lazurites and ultramarines probably reflect the presence of different radicals in their cages and chemical heterogeneity as well as the disorder in Al, Si-site ordering in case of ultramarines. Comparison of the results of ACAR measurements with the ones of the EPR studies indicates that there is correspondence between them. Similarly to three families of the ACAR curves, different likes of EPR lines were obtained for three groups of samples; sodalites, lazurites and ultramarines. It is possible that the annihilation of positrons takes place mainly with unpaired electrons recorded by the EPR technique.

We analyse the recently observed effect of an in-plane electric current through a Si quantum well on the conduction electron spin resonance. We find that the ratio of resonance shift and current density is independent of temperature and dissipation processes, but the channel current is reduced due to a parallel electric channel in heavily modulation doped samples. The inhomogeneous current distribution results in some broadening of the ESR line width. In high mobility Si/SiGe layers the current induced increase in the electron temperature is considerably larger than the increase in the lattice temperature. The signal amplitude scales with the square of electron mobility.

The methodology used in recent study of the zero-field splitting parameters of $Cr^{3+}$ ions at various orthorhombic symmetry sites in $LiKSO_4$ by Pandey and Kripal is critically commented on. We argue that the crystal field parameters, $B_{kq}$, in the Wybourne notation, which were calculated using the superposition model for $Cr^{3+}$ ions in $LiKSO_4$, may only be converted into the crystal field parameters in the Stevens notation. Regrettably, the authors have also converted the latter parameters supposedly into the zero-field splitting parameters D and E in the conventional notation. Such direct conversions are fundamentally incorrect and constitute factual invalid usage of the conversion relations between the crystal field (ligand field) parameters and the zero-field splitting ones. The cases of an implied usage of the invalid conversion relations between the crystal field parameters and the zero-field splitting parameters occurring in recent literature are also outlined. Pandey and Kripal have found the zero-field splitting parameters theoretically evaluated in this way to be in good agreement with the experimental values. However, the faulty methodology renders the conclusion that $Cr^{3+}$ ions enter into the $LiKSO_4$ lattice at the substitutional $K^{+}$ sites unjustified. Several other conceptual problems arising from misinterpretations of the crucial notions identified therein are also discussed and clarified.

Coherence of spins of electrons confined in III-V quantum dots is strongly affected by their hyperfine interaction with the nuclei. In this paper an introduction to this subject is presented. Some theoretical approaches to the problem will be outlined. Most attention will be given to the quasi-static bath approximation, to the cluster expansion theories of dephasing due to the nuclear dynamics induced by the dipolar interactions (spectral diffusion), and to the effective Hamiltonian based theory of dephasing due to hyperfine-mediated interactions. The connections between the theoretical results and various experiments will be emphasized.

We investigate feasibility of comparison between the zero field splitting parameters obtained experimentally based on the spin Hamiltonian with the fictitious spin S'=1 and those with the effective spin S̃=2. The former zero field splitting parameters have recently been measured for Fe²⁺ ions in forsterite Mg₂SiO₄, whereas the latter zero field splitting parameters are available in literature, e.g. for Fe²⁺ and Cr²⁺ (S̃=2) ions. It turns out that no unique direct comparison is feasible and hence appropriate conversion relations need to be derived. Methodology for such conversions is outlined. Various combinations of the possible energy level schemes for the spin S̃=2 and S'=1 are briefly described. Illustrative preliminary results concerning appropriate conversions of the second-rank zero field splitting parameters measured by high-frequency EMR for Fe²⁺ in natural and synthetic forsterite are presented. Detailed results and full analysis will be given elsewhere.

Single crystals of 21-hydroxyprogesterone have been γ-irradiated at 295 K and studied using X-band ESR and ENDOR. The structure of the one type radical has been determined on the basis of an analysis of the angular variation of the spectra. This radical is formed by abstraction of the hydrogen atom from the C(6) carbon, while the unpaired electron is delocalised onto the system O(3), C(3), C(4), C(5), C(6). Hyperfine splitting constants and unpaired electron density distribution have been calculated for the proposed radical structure by using the Gaussian98 set of programs. The results are in very good agreement with the experimental data. The effect of the hydrogen bond and biological activity on the anisotropy of α-hyperfine splitting tensor have also been discussed.

The new organic anion-radical salt $(N-Me-Tetra-Me-Pz)(TCNQ)_{2}$, (Pz = pyrazine) was studied as a low dimensional magnetic system. Heat capacity and EPR studies were performed in the temperature range from 2 to 300 K. The magnetic susceptibility was measured in the temperature range from 2 to 300 K and in magnetic fields of 100 mT and 1 T. The magnetic properties of this new system can be described as a dimerized Heisenberg spin S=1/2 chain possessing a spin-Peierls transition at 42 K.

We analyze the power absorption at electron spin resonance excited by the Bychkov-Rashba spin-orbit field in a 2D electron gas. We show that, as long as the absorbed power is dissipated by the usual spin lattice relaxation mechanisms, the resonance line shape is expected to be of pure absorption type, i.e., it can be described by the imaginary part of the dynamic magnetic susceptibility. Therefore, the Dysonian line shape observed in ESR of 2D electron gas cannot result from this type of the resonance signal.

Opis:
The low temperature magnetic response of Mn(III)F(salen), salen = $H_{14}C_{16}N_{2}O_{2}$, an S=2 linear-chain system, has been studied. Using a single crystal with the field applied perpendicular to the chain direction, torque magnetometry, down to 20 mK and up to 18 T, revealed a feature at 3.8 T when T ≤ 400 mK. ESR ( ≈200 GHz) studies, using single crystals at 4 K and in 5 T, have not detected any signal. In 10 mT, the temperature dependence of the susceptibility of powder-like samples can be reasonably fit when J/$k_{B}$=50 K and g=2. In addition, these data are unchanged for P ≤1.0 GPa. Using a randomly-oriented, powder-like, deuterated (12 of 14 H replaced by D) sample of 2.2 g at 270 mK, neutron scattering data, acquired with the Cold Neutron Chopper Spectrometer at the Spallation Neutron Source, show several well defined excitations that may be from the zero-field energy levels of antiferromagnetic S=2 spins with g=2, J/$k_{B}$=50 K, D/$k_{B}$=2.8 K, and E/$k_{B}$=0.5 K.

Opis:
This article reviews recent theoretical treatments of field dependent relaxation processes in complex systems containing mutually coupled dipolar, quadrupole, and electron spins. The presented approaches are based on an analogy between the Hamiltonian formalisms for quadrupole and zero field splitting interactions. Limitations of the presented treatments, resulting from the validity conditions of the second-order perturbation theory are discussed in detail.

Opis:
The electric and magnetic properties of Cu doped and pure/undoped hydrogels were investigated by impedance spectroscopy and electron spin resonance techniques, respectively. The capacitance and dissipation factor (tan δ) were measured in the frequency range of 100 Hz-10 MHz at room temperature. The Cole-Cole plots for the Cu doped dry and pure dry hydrogels have been used to describe the characteristic change of electrical properties in mentioned temperature interval. The comparison between Cu ions doped and pure/undoped samples is done using the impedance spectroscopy and the electron spin resonance techniques. Electron spin resonance signal for pure, Cu doped wet and Cu doped dry samples are not any power absorption signal, near the symmetric with respect to the resonance field values according to the dry sample and asymmetric for resonance field/base line, respectively.

We report results of EPR measurements of activated carbon fibers. Experiments made for pristine activated carbon fibers and activated carbon fibers with adsorbed molecules (CCl$\text{}_{4}$, C$\text{}_{6}$H$\text{}_{5}$NO$\text{}_{2}$, and H$\text{}_{2}$O) confirmed the localized character of paramagnetic centers observed in the system. Pristine activated carbon fibers are characterized by single Lorentzian line. Broader component of EPR signal appears when guest molecules are adsorbed in nanopores. The strongest localization is observed for water-filled activated carbon fibers nanopores (with hydrophobic pore walls) where changes in distance between nanographite particles were monitored by the g-shift to higher values. This process is related to stronger spin-orbit interaction of electrons trapped at nanographite particles compressed by guest molecules.

Opis:
The investigations into ferromagnetic resonance and magnetic susceptibility of nanocrystalline TiB₂, TiC, and B₄C powders (Ti-B-C system) doped to AISI 316L austenitic steel with different amounts (3 vol.%, 5 vol.% and 7 vol.%) have been carried out. The ferromagnetic resonance spectra were recorded in the temperature range from helium up to room temperature. The three tested composite samples contain a number of magnetic phases in different proportions. They reveal a structure originating from several different complex magnetic centers. The composites revealed such magnetic phenomena as paramagnetism, (anti)ferromagnetism, and superparamagnetism. Magnetic susceptibility investigations supported the ferromagnetic resonance studies and their analysis. Magnetic properties of the TiB₂, TiC, B₄C powders doped to AISI steel may play important role in further possible applications of these composite systems.

Low rank Illinois No. 6 coal was studied by electron paramagnetic resonance EPR spectroscopy. The parameters of EPR spectra (spectroscopic splitting factors g, linewidths $\DeltaB_{pp}$, concentrations of paramagnetic centres N) were measured for row and chemically treated coal (demineralized, reduced and methylated samples). The multi-component structure of experimental spectra of this coal was proved. Two groups of paramagnetic centres responsible for broad Lorentzian 1 and narrow Lorentzian 2 lines exist in studied samples. Paramagnetic centres connected with component lines revealed different behaviour during chemical treatments.

The interplay between the fictitious spin S' = 1/2 and the effective spin S̃=3/2 for Co²⁺(3d⁷) ions is considered. The available experimental data on the Ze g_{i}' factors for the two Co²⁺ complexes in PbMoO₄ obtained using the fictitious "spin" S'=1/2 description serve for determination of the Zeeman g_{i} factors corresponding to the effective spin S̃ =3/2. The second-rank zero-field splitting parameters D and E (S̃ = 3/2) are also indirectly determined from the experimental EMR data by employing the formulas arising from projection of the g_{i}(S̃=3/2) factors onto the g_{i}'(S' = 1/2) factors. The so-determined second-rank zero-field splitting parameters and g_{i}(S̃ = 3/2) factors will enable comparison with the respective quantities obtained in a subsequent paper using a combined modeling approach.

The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) method was used to characterize samples of activated coal before and after reactions of the catalytic decomposition of methane and ethanol at temperatures of 1023 K (750°C), 1123 K (850°C) and 1223 K (950°C). The EPR parameters: spectroscopic splitting factor g, peak-to-peak linewidth ΔBₚₚ, and spin concentration c were measured. During the ethanol-assisted catalytic decomposition of methane carbon-located-spin radicals are partially transformed into oxygen-located-spin radicals.

Opis:
Oxidative stress and the excess of free radicals accelerate the ageing process of human skin. The application of skin cream with antioxidant compounds could reduce the damage caused by free radicals. In this work we studied two types of skin creams with extracts from aronia (Aronia melanocarpa), elderberry (Sambucus nigra) and bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) because of their high content of anthocyanins, i.e. strong natural antioxidants. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging ability of the skin creams with berry extracts were studied with ESR spectroscopy. The artificial neural networks were applied to optimize the berry extract concentration and storage time for oil-in-water and water-in-oil creams. Based on experimental results chokeberry and elderberry extracts in oil-in-water cream base revealed higher DPPH radical scavenging ability than in the corresponding water-in-oil. Artificial neural networks predicts maxima of DPPH radical scavenging for 1-week stored elderberry (2.23 mg DPPH/g) and 1-week stored chokeberry (5.84 mg DPPH/g) and bilberry (5.26 mg DPPH/g) 0.76% extracts in oil-in-water creams. The maxima of DPPH radical scavenging for water-in-oil creams were predicted for 6-week stored 0.8% aronia extract, freshly prepared 0.76% bilberry extract and 1-week stored 0.56% elderberry extract. The artificial neural networks predicted values are in good agreement with the experimental values. DPPH-EPR could be combined with artificial neural networks to optimize the extract concentration, and the type of cream base as well as to predict the effect of storage based on a limited number of experiments and samples.

The electron magnetic resonance data on high-spin (S =2) manganese(III) 3d⁴ ion in tetraphenylporphyrinato chloride complex (MnTPPCl) obtained by high-frequency techniques are reanalysed. Preliminary results of semiempirical modeling of the spin Hamiltonian parameters for Mn(III) in MnTPPCl are presented. The microscopic spin Hamiltonian approach is utilized to predict the zero-field splitting and the Zeeman electronic parameters. It is found that for Mn(III) ions in MnTPPCl matching the experimental spin Hamiltonian parameters and the theoretical ones based on the ligand-field energy levels (Δ_{i}) within the ⁵D multiplet only may not be suitable for this system. Contributions due to the levels arising from the higher-lying ³H multiplet need to be taken into account in order to determine the reasonable values of microscopic parameters describing Mn(III) ions in MnTPPCl.

Spectroscopic and magnetic properties of Fe²⁺ (3d⁶; S=2) ions at orthorhombic sites in FeX₂·4H₂O (X = F, Cl, Br, I) crystals are compared with those in [Fe(H₂O)₆](NH₄)₂(SO₄)₂ (FASH). The microscopic spin Hamiltonian modeling utilizing the package MSH/VBA enables prediction of the zero-field splitting parameters and the Zeeman electronic ones. Wide ranges of values of the microscopic parameters, i.e. the spin-orbit (λ), spin-spin (ρ) coupling constants, and the crystal-field (ligand-field) energy levels (Δp_{i}) within the ⁵D multiplet are considered to establish the dependence of the zero-field splitting parameters b_{k}^{q} (in the Stevens notation) and the Zeeman factors g_{i} on λ, ρ, and Δp_{i}. By matching the theoretical spin Hamiltonian parameters and the experimental ones measured by EMR, the suitable values of λ, ρ, and Δp_{i} are determined. The novel aspect is prediction of the fourth-rank zero-field splitting parameters and the ρ (spin-spin)-related contributions, not considered in previous studies. The MSH predictions provide guidance for high-magnetic field and high-frequency EMR measurements.

Cholestanone ($C_{27}H_{46}O$) single crystals were irradiated with ⁶⁰Co-γ rays at room temperature. The spectra were recorded for different orientations of the crystal in the magnetic field at 120 K using the EPR technique. Radiation damage center was attributed to $CHCH_2CH_2$ radical. The principal values of the hyperfine coupling tensor of the unpaired electron with the protons and the principal values of the g tensor were determined. The results were found to be in good agreement with the existing literature.

The paramagnetic resonance of Co$\text{}^{2+}$ ions in Mg$\text{}_{2.997}$Co$\text{}_{0.003}$V$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{8}$ single crystals are reported. The EPR spectrum shows two groups of resonance lines associated with two crystallographically nonequivalent Co ions positions that are known in the kagome staircase system as "cross-tie" and "spine" sites. No preferential occupation of Co$\text{}^{2+}$ ions in the kagome lattice was observed. The ground state was described by spin-Hamiltonian with an effective electronic spin S=1/2 and nuclear spin I=7/2. The local symmetry of oxygen octahedron surrounding Co ions, main values of the g-factors, and hyperfine structure were determined for both cobalt positions.

The present work is devoted to the magnetic relaxation study of the single crystal CsNd(MoO₄)₂ a layered rare-earth dimolybdate. AC susceptibility measurements performed in magnetic fields up to B=5 T applied along the easy and hard axis with frequency f ≈1 kHz revealed rather complex field-induced slow magnetic relaxation. Two relaxation regimes in different magnetic field intervals connected with magnetic interactions and possible single-ion relaxation mechanism were observed.

The aim of this work was to compare free radical properties of some model neuromelanins obtained from dopamine and its mixture with 5-S-cysteinyldopamine in various molar ratios. The EPR method was used in these investigations; the samples were detected at X and K bands. Opis:
The EPR of VO$\text{}^{2+}$ in RbHC$\text{}_{2}$O$\text{}_{4}$ single crystals has been studied in X-band at≈290 K. Three sites have been observed. VO$\text{}^{2+}$ enters the lattice at substitutional and interstitial sites. Spin-Hamiltonian parameters are evaluated.

Opis:
We present the study of spin dynamics of KEr(MoO₄)₂ in the magnetic field applied along the hard axis c. The temperature dependence of AC susceptibility in zero magnetic field studied at frequencies f=10, 100, and 1000 Hz indicated the absence of relaxation in the temperature range from 2 to 20 K. Application of magnetic field induced a slow magnetic relaxation, which was investigated in detail in the field 0.5 T. The highest intensity of the relaxation process, reflected by the values of imaginary susceptibility was observed at 2 K. With increasing temperature, the relaxation process is weaker and vanishes completely above 3.5 K. Corresponding Cole-Cole diagrams were constructed and analyzed within a single relaxation process which can be associated with a direct relaxation process with a bottleneck effect, τ ≈1/T^b, and b=1.4. The slow relaxation at 2 K intensifies with increasing magnetic field at least up to 1 T.

Electron paramagnetic resonance of Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ in La$\text{}_{2}$Zn$\text{}_{3}$(NO$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{12}$ • 24H$\text{}_{2}$O single crystals is studied at ≈ 9.45 GHz. Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ substitutes for Zn$\text{}^{2+}$ sites. The spin-Hamiltonian parameters are evaluated at 290 K. The superposition model has been applied to the zero-field splitting parameter D for Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ in Ce$\text{}_{2}$Mg$\text{}_{3}$(NO$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{12}$ • 24H$\text{}_{2}$O and La$\text{}_{2}$Mg$\text{}_{3}$ (NO$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{12}$ • 24D$\text{}_{2}$O at both sites. It is shown that the calculated values of D are in agreement with the experimental values if local relaxation effects are taken into account.

Opis:
Hydrogenation of two double donor centers in silicon - substitutional sulfur and thermal donor - is studied by electron paramagnetic resonance and electron-nuclear double resonance. For both centers the existence of a new paramagnetic S = 1/2 state identified as the neutral charge state of the double donor passivated with a single hydrogen atom is concluded. The microscopic structure of such complexes is discussed.

Opis:
Electron paramagnetic resonance studies of the high-spin (HS) ↔ low-spin (LS) transition in 2-methyl-5-ethyl-pyridine-5-chloro-salicylalt hiosemicarbazonatoferrate(III) performed under hydrostatic pressure up to 500 MPa in a temperature range of 80-310 K have revealed two modifications of the low spin complexes: low-pressure (LS1) and high-pressure (LS2) ones. Under atmospheric pressure LS1 appears on cooling and disappears on heating at 220 K. The hydrostatic pressure shifts the transition to higher temperatures. Below 275 K an increase in pressure to 410 MPa results in abrupt changes in the g-factor and widthΔ B of the EPR line indicating a transition to a new phase. The pressure-induced transition LS1 ↔ LS2 is almost independent of T up to 275 K, where at a pressure of 420 MPa a triple point is observed. The LS1↔ LS2 and HS↔ LS2 (at T>260 K) transitions occur with a large hysteresis of about 95 MPa. The process of the spin transition has been shown to begin with the formation of domains of LS complexes in the matrix of HS ones. The response of the domains to external factors has been studied.

Opis:
Hyperfine magnetic fields on ⁵⁷Fe nuclei in Sr and Ba hexagonal ferrites are calculated in dependence on unit cell volume and c/a ratio. By analysing the local deformations of Fe-O-Fe triads the results are explained as changes to contact hyperfine field due to Fe-O covalency effects and supertransferred hyperfine fields. Most pronounced effect is found for bipyramidal iron Fe(b) where the total contact field is reduced due to noticeable shortening of Fe(b)-O bonds.

Multi-nuclear mixed-valence clusters V$\text{}_{4}^{IV}$V$\text{}_{2}^{V}$O$\text{}_{7}$(OCH$\text{}_{3}$)$\text{}_{12}$ were studied by X-band EPR in the temperature range 4.2-300 K. An isotropic exchange interactions between four V$\text{}^{IV}$ ions with individual spin S$\text{}_{i}$=1/2 determine the energy levels structure of the compound with the total spin states S=0, 1, and 2, which are doubled and split due to the extra electron transfer. The spin-Hamiltonian approach was used for the analysis of the temperature dependences of the EPR spectra parameters and the cluster dynamics. Two types of the electron transfer are assumed: the single jump transfer leading to the splitting of the total spin states by intervals comparable in magnitude with the exchange parameter J≈100-150 cm$\text{}^{-1}$ and the double jump one resulting in dynamics. The dependence of the transition ratesν$\text{}_{tr}$ on the energy of the total spin states was observed. In particular, in the range 300-220 K theν$\text{}_{tr}$ ≈0.7×10$\text{}^{10}$ cm$\text{}^{-1}$ and below 180 K the ν$\text{}_{tr}$≈1×10$\text{}^{10}$ cm$\text{}^{-1}$ was estimated. The g-factors of the spin states were shown to depend on the values of the intermediate spins. A phase transition in the T-range 210-180 K leading to the change in the initial V$\text{}^{IV}$ ions localization was discovered.

Origin of a fast component of the photoluminescence decay of Mn$\text{}^{2+}$ intra-shell $\text{}^{4}$T$\text{}_{1}$ → $\text{}^{6}$A$\text{}_{1}$ transition is discussed based on the results of photoluminescence, photoluminescence kinetics and optically detected magnetic resonance experiments performed for bulk ZnMnS samples with about 1% Mn fraction. It is demonstrated that a fast component of the photoluminescence decay, reported previously for quantum dot structure and related to quantum confinement effects, is also observed in bulk samples and is related by us to very efficient spin cross-relaxation effects.

The mechanism of the anti-Stokes photoluminescence in ZnSe:Cr is discussed. It is shown that the two-step ionization transitions of Cr(2$\text{}^{+}$ ↔ 1$\text{}^{+}$) result in appearance of the blue anti-Stokes photoluminescence of ZnSe:Cr. There are also some indications that the Auger type co-operative process can contribute to the photoluminescence excitation.

The origin and thermal evolution of the EPR signals in SrCuO$\text{}_{2}$ ceramics are studied. It has been shown that the EPR signals observed in this ceramic material are due to contamination with other phases. The axial signal is due to SrCu(OH)$\text{}_{4}$·H$\text{}_{2}$O, which is a product of water reactions with SrCuO$\text{}_{2}$.

Opis:
The electronic properties of Sr$\text{}_{1-x}$A$\text{}_{x}$CuO$\text{}_{2+δ}$ (A = La, K, Ca) were examined. The crystal structure of the synthesized compounds was identified as orthorhombic with some admixture of tetragonal phase. For Sr$\text{}_{1-x}$La$\text{}_{x}$CuO$\text{}_{2+δ}$ the insulator-metal like transition was observed with increasing La content. The d$\text{}_{x²-y²}$ ground state of Cu ions was deduced from electron spin resonance measurements. The electronic state of Cu ions and their surrounding local symmetry was also found to be La and oxygen content dependent.

The results of photoluminescence and magneto-luminescence studies of chromium doped ZnSe crystals are presented for blue colour shallow donor-shallow acceptor pair photoluminescence, with a zero phonon line at 2.692 eV. This donor-acceptor pair photoluminescence is observed under photo-excitation with photon energies smaller than the emission energy (anti-Stokes luminescence) and dominates in the photoluminescence spectrum of ZnSe:Cr at the excitation energy about 2.41 eV and for temperature T<20 K. A quantum efficiency of this anti-Stokes luminescence is relatively large. It is of about 10$\text{}^{-3}$ at 0 T and increases with increasing magnetic field up to 7 T at temperature T=2 K. We relate the intensity of the anti-Stokes luminescence to a non-equilibrium concentration of photo-excited Cr$\text{}^{+}$ ions and propose that the rate of spin-dependent recombination of Cr$\text{}^{+}$ ions with free holes (decreases with increasing magnetic field) is responsible for the observed increase in the anti-Stokes luminescence intensity at higher magnetic fields.

Magnetic properties of four nFeVO₄/(1-n)Co₃V₂O₈ samples obtained in reactions between FeVO₄ and Co₃V₂O₈ (n = 0.96, 0.86, 0.84 and 0.83, samples designated S1, S3, S4, S5, respectively) have been investigated by DC magnetisation in field cooling and zero-field-cooling modes and EPR. DC magnetic susceptibility showed paramagnetic behavior of all samples in high-temperature range (T > 20 K) and transition to antiferromagnetic state at 16-18 K (depending on sample iron content). Additional magnetic freezing at 8 K was registered for S3-S5 samples containing larger amount of cobalt. The Curie-Weiss law in 100-300 K temperature range indicates that Co²⁺ is in the high-spin state (S = 3/2). From the parameters of the hysteresis loop observed for the samples it was calculated that 0.58% of all magnetic (Fe³⁺, Co²⁺) ions were involved in the ferromagnetic states. EPR spectra of the samples were recorded in high temperature range (T > 90 K). The temperature dependence of the spectral parameters (resonance field, linewidth, integrated intensity) suggested the Fe³⁺ high-spin ions coupled by antiferromagnetic interaction and clusters of ions play major role in EPR spectra.
