Opis:
The aim of the authors was to compare values of 2D and 3D landscape metrics in high mountains. The first part of the work takes into consideration the spatial structure of vegetation (the rank of landscape facias/ecotopes) of Kocioł Goryczkowy Świński, which was investigated in 1999 by Anna Kozłowska and Anna Jakomulska. The calculation of landscape metrics is resumed using the true surface geometries and compared with the result of traditional measurements on a reference plane. In the second part of the paper, a set of commonly used landscape metrics is calculated for the geocomplexes (rank of uroczysko unit) in the Morskie Oko catchment using both true surface and plain geometries. Finally average surface roughness is computed for the both study areas and some remarks for landscape metrics computed for geometric fields are given. The comparison shows that appropriate 2D and 3D metrics may differ significantly. Moreover, there is a strong correlation between the size of the discrepancy and the surface slope. For that reason, it is very important to distinguish between 2D and 3D metrics and to use them consciously, according to the particular problem.

Key-framing and Inverse Kinematics are popular animation methods, but new approaches are still developed. We propose a new evolutionary method of creating animation - the EMOT (Evolutionary MOTion) system. It enables automation of motion of animated characters and uses a new evolutionary approach - Gene Expression Programming (GEP). Characters are controlled by computer programs, an animator providing the way of motion's evaluation. GEP works with a randomly selected initial population, using directed but random selection. Experiments have shown that the proposed method is capable of developing robust controllers.

Opis:
The dispersion of the toxic gases due to the natural/industrial accidents can have the tragic consequences. To prevent the effects of these disasters different approaches have been introduced in the literature. In this paper we aimed to prepare the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) the model of emergency escape of toxic gases of different density, e.g. the chlorine and the ammonia. The Aloha and Ansys-Fluent software for multiphase transport description was applied. For 2d simulation the Degadis model was used, while for the 3d approach the multiphase Volume of Fluid model (VOD) was applied. For the reconstruction of atmospheric conditions different air velocity (flowing in one direction) was included according to the Pasquil Stability Class. Moreover, different wind conditions were compared with the windless conditions. The comparison of the dispersion process for two gases with different density, for the same mathematical domain, indicated the different volume concentration in function of the height and the wind velocity. The implications of the spreading pattern from the risk assessment and risk mitigation point of view were discussed. With the increase of height and wind velocity, a decrease of gas concentration for both gases was observed. Moreover, for the ammonia for the windless case, the volume fraction profile was irregular, while for the chlorine the circular profile was observed. With the increase of the wind value, the shape of the ammonia and the chlorine profile became narrower. Similar, as it was for the two-dimensional model wider cloud for the ammonia compared to the chlorine was observed.
W badaniach analizowano dwa podejścia, tj. dwuwymiarowy i trójwymiarowy opis zjawiska dyspersji gazu.

Opis:
The shape-from-shading (SFS) technique uses the pattern of shading in images in order to obtain 3D view information. By virtue of their ease of implementation, linearization-based SFS algorithms are frequently used in the literature. In this study, Fourier coefficients of central differences obtained from gray-level images are employed, and two basic linearization-based algorithms are combined. By using the functionally generated surfaces and 3D reconstruction datasets, the hybrid algorithm is compared with linearization-based approaches. Five different evaluation metrics are applied on recovered depth maps and the corresponding gray-level images. The results on defective sample surfaces are also included to show the effect of the algorithm on surface reconstruction. The proposed method can prevent erroneous estimates on object boundaries and produce satisfactory 3D reconstruction results in a low number of iterations.

Normal brain development is associated with expansion and folding of the cerebral cortex in a normal sequence of gyral–sulcal formation. We propose a global approach for measuring the cortical folding pattern of the developing brain. Our method measures geometric features directly on the cortical surface mesh, based on vertex labeling and skeletonization. The resulting extraction provides an accurate representation of global cortical organization. We applied this method to 17 young infants in order to characterize the evolution of cortical organization in the developing brain.

Opis:
Purpose: The current paper aims to present a new casting approach in dentistry by eliminating some conventional preliminary procedures and digitalising the process as much as possible. Design/methodology/approach: The experiment uses six digital crown patterns. They are aligned with each other and to the wall of a virtual casting ring. Then a digital sprue system is created. The object alignment and sizes are revised, and the optimal correlation is set. Finally, a single virtual object is created and is 3D printed of light curing acrylic resin suitable for casting, invested, and cast. Findings: The castings that are achieved have good quality and no defects. At the same time, the virtual designing and aligning of the patterns and all the components of the sprue system and casting ring save much time and allows better precision to be achieved. All these facts allow better control of the casting process results, making the process faster, more predictable, and more accurate. Research limitations/implications: The limitations of this study concerns pattern selection. It is well-known that the acrylic resin sublimates and expands massively during a temperature rise, which may cause mould fracture. This obstacle is very representative as solid objects with higher volumes are examined. This may enforce alignment revision or even temperature rate modification. Practical implications: Suggested approach will be very useful for daily dental laboratory practice by optimizing the working time of the dental technician, making the denture production process faster, more predictable, and more accurate. As a result, the process optimizes the working process in dental offices, by allowing shortening the time of each visit and treatment plan terms. Originality/value: Presented approach reveals some new opportunities for dental technicians to substitute the conventional raw stages of sprue system fabrication with digital planning and designing. This allows dental technicians to take advantage of the full potential of digital technologies.

Modern 3D scanners can measure the geometry with high accuracy and within a short time. In turn, currently produced CNC machine tools allow for very accurate manufacturing; however, processes beyond the machining cycle remain time-consuming. This paper presents the idea and experimental tests of the scanning system in the CNC machine, which allows to speed up on-machine measurements, align clouds of 3D data points with an accuracy close to that of the machine itself, and finally set the workpiece coordinate system for machining. This modern approach is in line with Industry 4.0, combining the terms of data processing, machine vision, manufacturing automation, and human-machine interfaces. The future implementation of the proposed system as an interchangeable tool will allow performing autonomous measurements, inspection, and supervision of the workspace, without engaging the machine operator. The system calibration and experimental results using the industrial 3D scanner and CNC machine are described.

Opis:
An increasing number of known RNA 3D structures contributes to the recognition of various RNA families and identification of their features. These tasks are based on an analysis of RNA conformations conducted at different levels of detail. On the other hand, the knowledge of native nucleotide conformations is crucial for structure prediction and understanding of RNA folding. However, this knowledge is stored in structural databases in a rather distributed form. Therefore, only automated methods for sampling the space of RNA structures can reveal plausible conformational representatives useful for further analysis. Here, we present a machine learning-based approach to inspect the dataset of RNA three-dimensional structures and to create a library of nucleotide conformers. A median neural gas algorithm is applied to cluster nucleotide structures upon their trigonometric description. The clustering procedure is two-stage: (i) backbone- and (ii) ribose-driven. We show the resulting library that contains RNA nucleotide representatives over the entire data, and we evaluate its quality by computing normal distribution measures and average RMSD between data points as well as the prototype within each cluster.

The electronic structure of Fe$\text{}_{3-x}$V$\text{}_{x}$Al alloys was calculated using the super-cell methodology of alloy modeling. The concentration range of x=0.0÷1.0 was investigated. For a concentration of x=0.0625 the energy based analysis reveals that vanadium prefers to replace the Fe atom at sites with the octahedral coordination. It was found that the iron atoms coordinated by the eight nearest-neighbor Fe atoms preserve their high magnetic moment up to a concentration of x=0.9375 even though the average total magnetic moment goes to zero. The relatively high (≃ -1.0μB) negative magnetic moment of V remains constant up to x≃ 0.5. In the concentration range of x=0.75÷0.9375 the gap at ε$\text{}_{F}$ of the minority density of states is observed while the majority density of states displays a sharp peak structure at the Fermi energy. This feature suggests the heavy-fermion behavior of the Fe$\text{}_{2}$VAl compound.

For this goal in a deterministic approach the modified Willenborg retardation model was applied. To provide experimental data the research into fatigue crack growth for 2024-T3 aluminum alloy sheet CCT specimens under LHL type block program loading with multiple overload-underload cycles was developed. The microfractographic analysis of fatigue fractures with the use of the transmission electron microscope (TEM) made it possible to trace the effect of block program loading on the crack growth rate. The knowledge of the affection of a particular overloadunderload cycle or a block of these cycles on crack rate on the basis of microfractographic analysis was utilized for assessing the equivalent loading for the LHL block program. The diagrams that presented the crack growth rate both on the surface and inside the aluminum alloy sheet was performed. The crack growth rate inside the sheet was estimated on the basis of the striation spacing analysis.

Introduction: Nowadays, heart is one of the most demanding organs for imaging procedures. This is related to its irregular shape and complex internal structure. Increased demand for imaging complex cardiac structures has resulted in the development of novel 3D modeling techniques. Not only did the methods of imaging the organs of the living patients developed in recent years, but also new methods of post-mortem analysis. Acquired 3D models have a number of applications, both clinical and educational. Detailed knowledge of the morphology of right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) is extremely important in terms of cardio-invasive therapeutic procedures. Its significance was noticed during the exploration of the optimal pacing sites in the area of right ventricle. What is more, accurate analysis of the RVOT morphology and spatial structure is also the basis for the treatment of ventricular arrhythmias which foci are located within the outflow tract. The aim of this study was to elaborate the most accurate technique of preparing interior models of the right ventricle and digitizing them to the 3D form. For this purpose we used a silicone molding of the heart cavities with digital photogrammetry.

Opis:
This paper describes a research which attempts to combine the advantages of human analysts and computer automated processing for efficient human-computer symbiosis in geospatial data fusion. Specifically, the experiments performed were related to the analysis of the potential use of inhomogeneous (composed of different sources) stereo pairs for mapping dataset actualization. Inhomogeneous stereo pairs were combined with images of the map to be updated along with actual aerial images of the same territory. The anaglyphic product obtained after image processing of such stereo pairs was demonstrated to human analysts (subjects) and stereo perception of such stereo pairs was achieved. The most interesting finding of this experiment is the fact that some objects existing only on the aerial photo appeared in the inhomogeneous stereo pairs as 3D. This effect is caused by phenomena within the human eye-brain system known as human stereopsis, which is widely deployed in photogrammetry. For the quantitative measurements of the effect obtained an eye-tracking system was deployed. Analysis of human eye-movements (driven by conscious and subconscious brain processes), while perceiving an inhomogeneous stereo dataset, provides a unique opportunity for the human computer symbiosed geospatial systems. There are two potential outcomes of such approach: a) interpretative – analysts’ gaze-fixation zones can help to localize the areas where mapping dataset should be updated b) quantitative processing of eye fixations geometry during stereo model perception allows to transform the virtual 3D model to a geometrical one based on binocular summation measurements deploying eye-tracking.
Eksperymenty w szczególności były związane z analizą możliwości wykorzystywania heterogenicznych (uzyskanych z różnych źródeł) stereogramów dla aktualizacji map i baz danych SIP. Heterogeniczne stereogramy stworzono z mapy rastrowej i aktualnych obrazów cyfrowych.

Opis:
The study aimed to establish the relationship between values and people’s preferences for sustainable improvement in Nigeria’s indigenous housing context. The relationship was tested in SEM using ordinal survey data obtained between February and March 2022 with 241 valid samples. The mainstream values were statistically validated using CFA while the relationships were generated in the SEM. Results established a significant relationship between values and the people’s preferences for transformative improvements. The findings provide a foundation for long-term policy formation, practical transformative experimentation, and an empirical foundation for future methodological research.
