The article is dedicated to the analysis of the linguistic-textual representation of Salvatore in Umberto Eco’s novel The Name of the Rose and its Slovene, Croatian, Czech and Polish translations. The first part of the article deals with different linguistic and intertextual layers composing Salvatore’s original utterances, while the second part is devoted to Salvatore’s translated language, concentrating – primarily – on his heteroglossia and intertextuality. Salvatore is a grotesque plurilinguistic and intertextual character born out of the rich erudite immagination of Umberto Eco. The four translated Salvatores appear also as strange babelic monks whose multilingualism expands by adding a dominant Slavic linguistic element to the source-text heteroglossia. The intertextual dimension of translated Salvatores, on one hand, diminishes as most source-text citations blend into the translated linguistic mosaic, but, on the other hand, it also increases by gaining an additional metatextual (translational) dimension and, equally important, by incorporating a substantial part of Eco’s original text.

In Christian religious consciousness, especially in Eastern Christianity, Andrew the Apostle has a place equal to that of his brother, Peter the Apostle. This article presents the information gathered about him and provided by the Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. It also concisely describes the apocrypha about his missionary activities in Greece, Pontus, Thrace and Scythia, as well as the sources and reasons behind the development of his cult in Europe, including the Slavic nations. The origin of the given name Andrew is also included, along with the process of this name becoming common among the Slavs connected with the spread of the cult. The article stresses the importance of the transformation of the original image of this saint caused by the contamination of Christian beliefs and Slavic folk culture. The analysis of Polish calendar proverbs enabled to present the linguistic image of St. Andrew. Folk religious rites connected with his cult, which emerged as the result of intertwining of the Christian calendar and agricultural cycle, are also described. The saints to whom certain days in the Christian calendar were dedicated, started to be perceived as the guardians of these days, protecting people from the forces of nature, as well as the protectors of certain trades. The profiles of selected local Christian saints bearing the name Andrew are also presented.

The author notes that the fact of omitting the names, titles, ranks, etc. when using surnames is increasingly represented in the media, which, in turn, has serious social consequences. It proves that it is not only contempt, but also a kind of “objectification” of people, deprivation of dignity, “linguistic deprivation of authority” by the media. This way journalists also reduce the role of such concepts like: respect, model, authority, or, on the contrary – media broadcasters discourage their recipients.
Autorka zauważa, że coraz częściej reprezentowane jest w środkach masowego przekazu pomijanie imion, tytułów, godności, nazw pełnionych funkcji itp. przy przywoływanych nazwiskach, co pociąga za sobą poważne konsekwencje społeczne. Świadczy to nie tylko o lekceważeniu, ale także o swego rodzaju „uprzedmiotowieniu” osób, odarciu z godności, „językowym pozbawieniu autorytetu” przez media. Dziennikarze w ten sposób pomniejszają również w życiu odbiorców rolę takich pojęć, jak: szacunek, wzorzec, autorytet lub przeciwnie, nadawcy medialni zniechęcają odbiorców do siebie.

The article describes the archaeological works carried out in February 2020 in the crypts of the church of the Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Szczuczyn (Podlaskie Voivodeship). Works in the crypts in Szczuczyn had been carried out since 2013, however in this case the main aim of the work was to collect botanical samples to analyse the vegetation that was used in the early modern funeral rite. An important element during the work was the proper selection of places from which botanical samples were to be taken, as well as marking the samples and their further segregation. To this end, it was decided to prepare a common sampling system for all the burials.

The article focuses on the effectiveness of the name-based method (Odimienna Metoda Nauki Czytania) developed by Irena Majchrzak in foreign language teaching to young pupils. Children’s names prove a good starting point for learning to read in a foreign language. As a valuable educational material of emotional charge, the name constitutes an integral part of the learner and thus can be used as a personalised primer containing a basic text to be the first read by children. Originally used to teach reading in Polish kindergartens, the name-based method may inspire teachers in teaching a foreign language to young learners as an ingenious pedagogical innovation. My professional experience indicates that the reading skills in a foreign language in the first stage of education are underestimated. My data come from a six-month experiment in a primary bilingual school where I introduced the name-based method. As a result, the children’s own names in their foreign language versions provided an excellent educational basis. The conclusions reveal that this method helps in expanding vocabulary, developing linguistic sensitivity, stimulating communication skills, and positively affecting language fluency.

The article is devoted to the specifics of the theatrical reception of Jon Fosse’s work in Poland with particular reference to the first Polish stage productions of his drama The Name (Namnet). The point of reference for the Polish reception is Jens-Morten Hanssen’s research, based on social network theory, into the dynamics of the development of the worldwide interest in Fosse’s drama as well as the nodal and the turning moments points of its stage history. The article characterises the influence of Norwegian cultural institutions and artistic networks on the presence of this dramaturgy in Polish theatre life. The characterisation is based on an analysis and interpretation of the organisational, artistic and cultural determinants of the stage productions of The Name in Warsaw and Wroclaw in 2001, and in Szczecin in 2002.

The subject of this paper is phraseology with the name of the bird in its lexical structure (such as crn kao gavran, držati se kao pokisli vrabac, zaplesti se kao pile u kučine, podmetnuti kukavičje jaje etc.). These units were analyzed in order to present the language picture of the animal world of Serbian speakers. The research is based on linguocultural approach to language ‒ Zykova’s conceptual theory of phraseology and culture (Зыкова, 2015). Attention is mostly paid to the problem of motivation of the observed phraseologisms and the phraseological semantic processes. There are several different types of information that motivate the creation of phraseology with the name of the bird as their lexical component: the appearance of the bird, its sound and behavior, as well as its symbolic value.

The purpose of this article was the semantic analysis of the eight names of the sadness: smutek (smętek), ckliwość, tęskność, tęsknota, tęskliwość, żal, żałość, żal, żalość i żaloba. The composite written material gathered from all available leksicographical sources encompassed the texts starting from the XIV century. It seemed that the meanings and features of the investigated lexems diametrically differed from the contemporary state of things. Those written things featured and characterized themselves on the basis of the numerous sacral texts and it’s assured that the primal essence of those was enveloped with the category of peccata capitalia. We can notice the residua – in the context it’s the religious thinking corresponding with the old polish language – that were long. At the begining of the “young–polish” era it’s registered the “usebles” which indicated the sins tristita, acedia or ira. It’s being said that the language is a very conservative form and that’s why it stays behind in the relationship with the language–beyond world ingraining the history into the contemporariness.

Artykuł porusza zagadnienie teologii Imienia jako jednego z elementów charakteryzujących i reprezentujących redakcję deuteronomistyczną. Wobec pojawiających się od kilku dekad głosów podważających interpretację teologii Imienia czy też negujących jej istnienie autorka podejmuje próbę ponownej analizy materiału biblijnego, z którego koncepcja ta się wywodzi, próbując odpowiedzieć na pytanie, czy teologia Imienia w Dziele Deuteronomistycznym występuje i czy w istocie odwołuje się do problematyki Bożej obecności na ziemi. Język i formuły Imienia – zarówno w Księdze Powtórzonego Prawa, jak i w Historii Deuteronomistycznej – poddane są analizie lingwistycznej i kontekstualnej. Istotnym punktem prowadzonych analiz kontekstualnych będzie odwołanie się do tekstów pozabiblijnych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem literatury akadyjskiej, jako że to na nich opierają się hipotezy podważające teologię Imienia.    
The article explores the issue of the Name Theology as one of the elements that characterize and represent the Deuteronomistic redaction. In light of the arguments that have been appearing for several decades challenging the interpretation of the Name Theology or denying its existence, the author attempts to re-examine the biblical material from which the concept originated, in an attempt to answer the question of whether the Name Theology in the Deuteronomistic Work is present and whether it actually refers to the issue of God’s presence on earth. The „Name formulas” in both Deuteronomy and the Deuteronomistic History are subjected to textual, lexical and grammatical analysis. An important point of the article is the reference to a comparative study of extra-biblical materials, with particular emphasis on Akkadian literature, since it is on these that the hypotheses undermining the so-called Name Theology are commonly based.

The syntagma „began to call on the name of the Lord” is an important excerpt in the Primeval history. This expression is connected to Enosh, who developes worship and brings hope that mankind which is constantly distancing from God, will be salvaged. However, most frequently we connect the acquaintance of the God’s name with telling about the call of Moses and God self-presentation in a burning bush, translated usually as a: „I Am who I Am” (Exod 3,14-15). Although these above fragments seem to be in a contrary, consist their reciprocal theological coherence. Basing on historical-critical methods of working on biblical text Gen 4,26 and Exod 3,14-15 the article collates the results of analysis of excerpts. It allows to understand the God’s identity and significance of His name more profoundly. Enosh didn’t need to know the name YHWH in order to praise the Lord. „Later on”, God reveals His name to Moses bringing also salvage for sons of Israel. God gives the possibility to be saved, to be salvaged in Him, in a relationship with Him through human worship .

Uregulowania zawarte w art. 432 -4310 k.c. wiążą firmę ściśle z osobą przedsię-biorcy. Pojęcie oznaczenia przedsiębiorstwa z art. 5 ustawy z dnia 16 kwietnia 1993 r. o zwalczaniu nieuczciwej konkurencji obejmuje przedsiębiorstwo w znaczeniu podmiotowym, przedmiotowym i funkcjonalnym. Przepisy prawa chronią oznaczenie przedsiębiorcy, który występuje w obrocie, przed naruszeniem jego praw do nazwy. Zależy to od celu i przedmiotu ochrony. Przedmiotem ochrony mogą być objęte: nazwa przedsiębiorcy, dobro osobiste, znak towarowy, utwór, oznaczenie przedsiębiorstwa, prawo do domeny internetowej. W przepisach kodeksu cywilnego znajdują się podstawowe regulacje dotyczące nazwy przedsiębiorstwa – firmy. Problematyka ochrony oznaczeń przedsiębiorcy wymaga sięgnięcia do licznych aktów prawnych, a wybór instrumentów służących ochronie należy każdorazowo do przedsiębiorcy.
The rules contained in the Civil Code provision 432 -4310 associated company closely with the person of the entrepreneur. The concept of marking the company of art. 5 of the Act of 16 April 1993 about unfair competition include an undertaking in the sense of subjective, objective and functional. The law protects the designation entrepreneur who is marketed before the violation of his rights to the name. It depends on the purpose and object of protection. The object of protection can be included: the name of the entrepreneur, personal interests, trademark, track, marking the company, the right to an Internet domain. The provisions of the Civil Code contain basic regulations concerning the name of the company - the company. The issue of protection of entrepreneurs need to delve into a number of legal acts, and the choice of instruments for the protection should be each time to the entrepreneur.

The article touches on the problems of how religious names function in Polish anthroponymy. It includes analysis of how the name Maria functions as a religious name. Religious names of 19 Polish women’s religious orders, all assigned between the sixteenth and twentieth centuries, were analysed (includes lists of the names of the religious orders in which sisters changed their names, and where the name Maria, or other names under the patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, were used). The function of the name Maria as a female monastic name largely depends on the given assembly and its spirituality. Looking diachronically at the use of particular names, one can say that even within the orders there was some kind of religious taboo about assigning the name Maria, in a way similar to that existing in the laity naming (although it did not concern all orders to the same extent).

Augustyn w De doctrina christiana 2, 38, 56-57 (por. PL 34, 61-62). Na Wschodzie etymologią imion zajmował się obszernie Orygenes, na Zachodzie zaś św. Hieronim ze Strydonu. Niniejszy artykuł przedstawia wybrane patrystyczne interpretacje na temat imienia Maria, opierając się głównie na przekazie Hieronima (por. Liber de nominibus hebraicis, PL 23, 771-858), który jako pierwszy spośród Ojców Kościoła zachodniego zajął się wyprowadzaniem etymologii nazw własnych. Etymologie zaproponowane przez Strydończyka (Maria = illuminatrix/illuminata/illuminant me isti, smyrna maris, stella maris, amarum mare, domina) konfrontujemy z dzisiejszym stanem wiedzy o językach semickich i zestawiamy je z greckimi Onomastica sacra. W podpunkcie ostatnim zaś analizujemy wybrane pohieronimowe interpretacje tegoż imienia (Ambroży z Mediolanu, Eucheriusz z Lyonu, Izydor z Sewilli).
In the patristic era, the etymology of biblical names was eagerly focused on because the Church Fathers were convinced that the names used in the Bible had a hidden meaning, as St. Augustine in De doctrina christiana 2, 38, 56-57 (cf. PL 34, 61-62). In the East, Origen dealt extensively with the etymology of names, while in the West, St. Jerome of Stridon. This article presents selected patristic interpretations of the name of Mary, based mainly on the interpretations of St. Jerome (cf. Liber de nominibus hebraicis, PL 23, 771-858), who was the first of the Fathers of the Western Church to deduce the etymology of names. I confront the etymologies proposed by him (Mary=illuminatrix/illuminata/illuminant me isti, smyrna maris, stella maris, amarum mare, domina) with the present state of knowledge about the Semitic languages and I compare them with the Greek Onomastica sacra. In the last point, I analyze selected Post-Jerome interpretations of this name (Ambrose of Milan, Eucherius of Lyon, Isidore of Seville).
